I went to try this place out on 7/18 around 5 pm and sat near the bar. Food was fantastic. Service could have been much better for that location and price point. They brought out the food before they brought our drinks. They seemed confused about our drink order. After that, they didn't follow up with our table to see how everything was. I was really disappointed the last time I came here to eat. I've eaten here over a dozen times and had a good, even sometimes great experience. I was reluctant to leave a review about this - but I couldn't find a method to contact their customer service on their website, so perhaps they only want to receive reviews as feedback? Anywho, the concierge let me know that I could sit at the bar or wait ten minutes for a table. I opted for the table since the disabilities I have would make sitting at the bar not only difficult but also unsafe. So, after 15 minutes they asked if I wanted to sit outside. To my memory, this was the first time they inquired whether I wanted to sit inside or outside, so I said that was fine and let them know I wish they had asked me before then. Because they sat me at a table that looked like it had been available since the moment I arrived 15 minutes earlier - no one had been sitting there the entire time. So could I have always been seated there without having to wait for 15 minutes? I was hungry. However, no one greeted me after I had been seated or took my drink order or even acknowledged my existence. After another fifteen minutes of sitting at their table on the patio, I just left and ate elsewhere. They didn't even notice that I left. I'm not sure what was going on with them that day - but it sure seems as if their operation may have declined, so it'll be some time before I try to eat there again. I traveled from Thousand Oaks in order to have the gluten-free air fried chicken. Sadly they no longer make it. I ordered a spaghetti squash with tomato sauce, cheese, and I opted to add tofu in the meal. It was good, not great. The server was great. The restaurant itself was nice. read more

I've been a big fan of the True Food Kitchen brand, ever since my first visit to TFK in Irvine years ago. Unfortunately the TFK missed the mark when I visited yesterday with a group of friends. Service was lacking and food came out super slow. We sat by the kitchen and noticed that take out orders were taking precedence over dining - in orders. We ordered a panini, two salads and a grain bowl, which took about 45 minutes to arrive at our table. We added a grilled chicken breast which was quite burnt, and a piece of steak which was very tough to chew. Unfortunately before the food came to us, they were making about 30+ take out orders! So since the take out orders were taking precedence, some of our cold food items (e.g salad, which were already prepared) sat sitting on the kitchen counter and were warmed under the food warmer. Having a cold salad as a warm salad was kind of gross. Our server did say sorry for how long the food was taking to get to us, but didn't follow up as to why it was taking so long (though I already knew based on what I saw in the kitchen) or anything else for the longer than usual waits. Yesterday's dining experience at the Pasadena TFK was quite frankly very poor and not representative of the TFK experiences I have had at other locations. Not sure if I would want to come back here again... maybe if I did take out since at least they seem to prioritize take outs over everything else. Meh. read more

There is something for everyone here- they have the best salads and appetizers, clean/Whole Foods, Veg/Vegan/GF options and whatever else you could want. I always want to try something new so my daughter picked this spot. I loved how everything looked. I liked the little candle on our table. So many food choices. I chose the pasta with the sausages hoping it was going to be spicy and it was, as you get closer to the bottom of your bowl. It was very filling. We sat outside, so it got chilly. I wish I had a sweater. They have indoor seating, but we got seated outside which was fine till it got cold. Service was good. The worst part was the parking. It was delicious with generous helpings of veggies and cheese. We each had the Ancient Grains Bowls, 2 as is, and one with Salmon added for an additional $10.95. We all devoured our bowls! My friends got complimentary desserts for their birthdays that they got to select from the dessert menu! Such a nice treat-flourless chocolate cake was decadent! Food tastes great! Of the two, I would say the hummus dip was the best! The cracker was light and crunchy and perfectly balanced with the dip which had some lemon and other garnishes that really helped with the flavor. We were seated with enthusiasm, and our server excelled in attentiveness and explaining recommendations. I got to try a variety of items. As an appetizer, the edamame dumplings were excellent - umami, somewhat nutty and creamy. However, it only came with five dumplings and was small for the price. As a side, the cheese mash potatoes were addictive! For entree, I got the jambalaya pasta which - it had spices, sausages, chicken, and bold flavors. For the pizza, I got the seasonal butternut squash raisin pizza - it tasted healthy, but was not for me. Overall, True Foods has a varied menu that can please all palettes. I come here often and the service, ambience and, most importantly, the food have been great! Ample outdoor seating so it's beautiful on a nice day out in Pasadena. I can't complain about any dishes I've had. If you're looking for an organic centered restaurant with delicious food, then I highly suggest you try True Foods Kitchen. I haven't been to other locations but I can say this one has been consistent for years. The one item of all the numerous dishes we've tried that was not a hit was the air fried potatoes. Reservations recommended for peak hours and weekends but a pleasant place to wait if needed. Doesn't have it's own parking lot so look for metered street parking or surrounding public parking lots. First time at this location - I like that you have the option to sit in the courtyard area or inside- menu gives you the option to add protein for an additional cost. I opted not to do that but found the food had excellent flavor and the grains were very filling. Service was very good and was not too busy. Decore inside has a very California vibe I'd say. Not too fancy and light and airy. High quality napkins feel like real cloth. Bathrooms were very clean and had great decoration. I've passed True Food Kitchen for years and was excited to finally give it a try! They have a variety of items on their menu that focuses on "healthier" ingredients and they clearly state the calories and protein for each item, which as someone who tries to eat high protein, I really appreciated. I ordered the lasagne al pesto, which had turkey sausage bolognese, pistachio pesto, organic spinach, ricotta, tresh mozzarella, basil. Overall, I wouldn't say I was mind blown with it, but it definitely satisfied my lasagna craving while not feeling incredibly heavy like a more traditional lasagna. I also ordered a carrot cake to go and I was pleasantly surprised by it considering that it was gluten free--it was still super moist and flavorful. I absolutely love everything about True Food Kitchen! The restaurant is beautiful, clean, fresh, and has such a welcoming atmosphere. The food was amazing, and the waiters and employees were incredibly sweet and attentive. What really stood out to me is how child-friendly and pet-friendly they are. We came here for our anniversary dinner, and everyone was so kind and excited about our pet bird -- people were truly in awe! I ordered the protein-style hamburger wrapped in lettuce with the kale salad, and oh my gosh... it was SO good. The portions were generous too. I wasn't left feeling heavy after eating -- I felt happy, light, satisfied, and still had half my food left over. The chef came out to take a picture with our bird. Love love love True Food Kitchen in Pasadena ... anytime I eat here it makes me feel so healthy. My go to order here is the ancient grains bowl. My protein of choice is usually the blackened salmon. I love getting this because there's a good variety in this bowl - sweet potatoes, grilled onion, quinoa, snap peas, mushrooms, and a delicious sesame pistachio pesto avocado paste. It never makes me feel bad either -- a great healthy option :) I have never eaten this here but always order it to-go since my work does pick up for lunch. They take reservations, have a full bar, and a varied menu that I have found can suit anyone's tastes and preferences! They have options for those with dietary restrictions and also can modify as needed. I found my replacement! My wife and I used to go to the true foods in Santa Monica all the time. We loved it. We love the food. The healthiness. And the deliciousness. Unfortunately, it closed down and we were in search of another location. This one is amazing! It's in the center of downtown Pasadena at the end of all the restaurants and stores. It's even more vibey here and more alive. My turkey burger was amazing and the salmon my wife got was stunningly delicious. So much that she licked the plate dry. Service is good (more of a social hang out spot but you'll have to wait a little for your food) And the ambiance is trendy. You can even see thec chefs preparing the food so you know it's healthy and good. Will come back! You should try it too! read more

The other SoCal Yelp OCAs and myself went out for a little Friendsgiving Feast deciding on True Food Kitchen in Pasadena as our meeting spot. Parking can be hit or miss, but I was able to find a metered spot with a two hour limit. I was surprised with home big the restaurant was with an two separate indoor spaces and an outdoor patio, as well. When we arrived, the staff quickly found our reservation and was able to get us seated at a nice big table, just perfect for our group. I wish their craft beer menu was a bit more exciting, but they had Voodoo Ranger - an IPA that will safely suffice hoppy cravings at any occasion. Foodwise, the edamame dumplings slapped per the reviews from fellow Yelpers. Everyone recommended these and our whole table enjoyed these little greenies. For my main dish, I had the Lasagne al Pesto which was quite a generous portion on a bed of pistachio pesto with basil. Another enjoyable dish that was even better the next day as my lunchtime leftovers. 32g of protein and 750 calories - I also loved how the menu gave these important stats. My favorite thing I had was a ginger lemon sparkling drink. It actually made me feel better after drinking it. Two reasons I don't give a 5. First, service is a bit lacking. Cauliflower and Brussels sprouts are super delicious both are must haves.We split the mushroom beet vegan burger with air fried fries the bun was fresh with tomato and lettuce and pickled purple onion. Shared the kale salad with shrimp and parm cheese. Ordered the Juniper Rose to drink which is a gin based cocktail. I don't like gin but wanted to try it our server called it the patio ponder. True Food Kitchen has an excellent garden terrace which is a great place to while away the early afternoon and get in trouble with your boss because you came back from lunch at 3pm. Even the bar area is open, airy, and sunny. They're also a great place to bring your vegan friends, with multiple interesting options. Only drawbacks are that they are a bit spendy, and the chef could be more generous with spices. read more
