Unfortunately, it closed down and we were in search of another location. This one is amazing! It's in the center of downtown Pasadena at the end of all the restaurants and stores. It's even more vibey here and more alive. My turkey burger was amazing and the salmon my wife got was stunningly delicious. So much that she licked the plate dry. Service is good (more of a social hang out spot but you'll have to wait a little for your food) And the ambiance is trendy. I chose the pasta with the sausages hoping it was going to be spicy and it was, as you get closer to the bottom of your bowl. It was very filling. We sat outside, so it got chilly. I highly recommend both. Our appetizers came out before our drinks. Taking about 15 minutes. Other guests enjoyed the jambalaya, pizza, salmon, and carrots. They take reservations, have a full bar, and a varied menu that I have found can suit anyone's tastes and preferences! They have options for those with dietary restrictions and also can modify as needed. We were seated with enthusiasm, and our server excelled in attentiveness and explaining recommendations. I got to try a variety of items. As an appetizer, the edamame dumplings were excellent - umami, somewhat nutty and creamy. However, it only came with five dumplings and was small for the price. As a side, the cheese mash potatoes were addictive! For entree, I got the jambalaya pasta which - it had spices, sausages, chicken, and bold flavors. I can't complain about any dishes I've had. If you're looking for an organic centered restaurant with delicious food, then I highly suggest you try True Foods Kitchen. I haven't been to other locations but I can say this one has been consistent for years. The one item of all the numerous dishes we've tried that was not a hit was the air fried potatoes. Reservations recommended for peak hours and weekends but a pleasant place to wait if needed. Doesn't have it's own parking lot so look for metered street parking or surrounding public parking lots. Love love love True Food Kitchen in Pasadena ... anytime I eat here it makes me feel so healthy. My go to order here is the ancient grains bowl. My protein of choice is usually the blackened salmon. I love getting this because there's a good variety in this bowl - sweet potatoes, grilled onion, quinoa, snap peas, mushrooms, and a delicious sesame pistachio pesto avocado paste. It never makes me feel bad either -- a great healthy option :) I have never eaten this here but always order it to-go since my work does pick up for lunch. Two large dining sides with a cute little courtyard Ordered butternut squash soup which was very flavorful. Cauliflower and Brussels sprouts are super delicious both are must haves.We split the mushroom beet vegan burger with air fried fries the bun was fresh with tomato and lettuce and pickled purple onion. They have a variety of items on their menu that focuses on "healthier" ingredients and they clearly state the calories and protein for each item, which as someone who tries to eat high protein, I really appreciated. I ordered the lasagne al pesto, which had turkey sausage bolognese, pistachio pesto, organic spinach, ricotta, tresh mozzarella, basil. Overall, I wouldn't say I was mind blown with it, but it definitely satisfied my lasagna craving while not feeling incredibly heavy like a more traditional lasagna. I also ordered a carrot cake to go and I was pleasantly surprised by it considering that it was gluten free--it was still super moist and flavorful. True Food Kitchen has an excellent garden terrace which is a great place to while away the early afternoon and get in trouble with your boss because you came back from lunch at 3pm. Even the bar area is open, airy, and sunny. They're also a great place to bring your vegan friends, with multiple interesting options. One lady quickly made dozens of edamame dumplings which we decided to try as an appetizer. I had a sourdough pizza and it was solid. Last time I had a burger and it was also pretty solid. My favorite thing I had was a ginger lemon sparkling drink. It actually made me feel better after drinking it. Two reasons I don't give a 5. First, service is a bit lacking. Second, service is a bit lacking. Atmosphere is great. Food is quite solid and healthy. Service was okay so it's a 4. Didn't know where to go when walking in and someone outside pointed and said over there. Didn't walk to show us, just too cool for school. Parking can be hit or miss, but I was able to find a metered spot with a two hour limit. I was surprised with home big the restaurant was with an two separate indoor spaces and an outdoor patio, as well. When we arrived, the staff quickly found our reservation and was able to get us seated at a nice big table, just perfect for our group. I wish their craft beer menu was a bit more exciting, but they had Voodoo Ranger - an IPA that will safely suffice hoppy cravings at any occasion. Foodwise, the edamame dumplings slapped per the reviews from fellow Yelpers. Everyone recommended these and our whole table enjoyed these little greenies. For my main dish, I had the Lasagne al Pesto which was quite a generous portion on a bed of pistachio pesto with basil. Another enjoyable dish that was even better the next day as my lunchtime leftovers. 32g of protein and 750 calories - I also loved how the menu gave these important stats. They have outdoor tables with umbrellas, which made it really comfortable even in the heat. Looking for something light and fresh in Pasadena during a work trip. Found this little gem. We parked in the back (valet only with no attending). So we walked in via the back to the inside counter and waited while staff walked by. Wasn't sure if we needed to order before, be seated, sit at the bar. Wow, did we have a bad experience. True Food used to be our "go-to" so we chose to attend that evening for its convenient location and the vegetarian menu. Although we were seated by a host, we sat at our table for a while before we flagged down service staff. Even then, it took a while to get our drink order and basic water. We ordered starters -- but they arrived surprisingly soft and over-cooked. Our entrees were suddenly delivered by a separate server -- one who didn't know which plate went where and basically dropped the plates and bowls on our table in a hurry, leaving them for us to figure out. No effort to identify which-was-which or what-was-what. Our starter dishes remained on the table when that server left. In fact, we stacked those dishes at the end of the table, hoping that a passing service person would carry them off. But that didn't happen. We had to flag a separate service person to ask for those dishes to be removed from the table -- and even then, that service-person hesitated as though our table wasn't his responsibility. Our waitress was not to be found. The butternut squash soup was bland and flavorless. When our waitress passed, headed for another table, we stopped her to complain about the soup. She didn't hesitate to offer to replace it with another item on the menu -- although that process took some time. Even then, the bland soup bowl remained on the table -- even after we asked if someone could take it. It remained there throughout the meal. It sat there, brown and bland, untouched, going cold. The Chinese chicken salad was nothing special and it didn't improve with the dressing. Our son reported that his turkey burger was 'okay.' When my husband received his chicken-pasta dish, replacing the bland soup, he ate it because he was hungry -- but not because it was any good. We generally shared that the experience might improve when we got to dessert --- because we remembered that True Food had good desserts -- but we never found out. Our waitress moved past and dropped our check on the table, offering to "take care of that for us when we were ready." We looked at each other confused. We wondered whether the restaurant closed early -- and whether we were 'keeping' the wait staff. We flagged the waitress to the table and asked whether they were closing. She said no. We asked why she hadn't offered dessert; she said she didn't realize we were interested in dessert. We said, "well, not now." We shared our complaints with the waitress and she offered to get the manager -- but she need not have bothered. The manager was even LESS interested in our complaints than the waitress had been. She looked past us as though we were invisible. We pointed at the bowl of bland, flavorless soup that we "sent back" -- only it never went back, it was still sitting in the center of the table. The outside is really nice, they had table and lights. You are greeted by the hostess to sit down right at the front. We arrived at 7:15 PM, and were seated outside. Unfortunately the reason I gave a four star is we waited for 20 minutes to finally order. No one acknowledged us at all, and a table of two who was seated inside at 7:25 was helped before us. Many employees walked past us and didn't even offer us water. The hostess finally acknowledged us at 7:35, brought us "warm" water and no ice. She asked for someone to serve us. We were very close to up and leaving. Kiki took our order, and was very nice. She kept checking on us. I ordered the seasonal pizza the squash and my boyfriend had the poke bowl.
