Sadly, the side salad gets a bit wilty and warm from being packaged with the hot foods, which is more than my heart can take because it looks like good salad. I LOVE Popping Yolk Cafe, I first started coming to the Alhambra location. This spot is fixed right in the middle of Old Town Pasadena. There's a great parking structure around the corner with 2 hour free parking. They have a reward point system using your phone number if you frequent the cafe often enough and can go towards different menu items. Matthew helped me order an iced ube latte and made me slightly more sweeter for me. This was perfect. I typically order their Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich and switch out the fried potatoes with French fries (this is an extra $3 charge). Matthew was very kind bc he came up to my take letting me know the kitchen was closing if there was anything else I wanted to order before they closed up. Thank you for going out of your way to let me know so I could put my food order in. I was going to give this location 4 stars because there was no WiFi but the staff was SO NICE I had to give them 5 stars. I was able to make due without working on my laptop. The food here is amazing! I absolutely love how flavorful everything is and the portion is great. I really love the side salad they give, it helps cut through the heaviness of the food. The ham was a little dry and salty but the avocado was very delicious and fresh. The egg muffin was quite cold and dry so it wasn't too enjoyable. The garden salad was pretty basic and just had some greens, corn, and tomatoes so nothing too special. The potatoes arrived cold, dry and slightly crunchy. The guy at the front was really helpful and patient with our group of 8, and the service we received from everyone at the restaurant was refreshing. I've been here a few times and if you plan to come on a weekend for breakfast/ brunch, you do have to hustle a bit to find seating or wait. The Popping Yolk Cafe in Pasadena, is a popular happening place. After my almost 30 mile one way drive from the SFV, there were many parties waiting outside. I knew I had come to the right place. There is an iPad outside the entrance, where you get on the waitlist for a table after typing in your phone number. A wonderful set up that was so efficient. You can monitor your position in the wait line on your phone and when your table is ready, you get a friendly text. Superbly efficient, Seamlessly done. Inside, you order at the register, they give you a number for the table and you take your seat. The food comes out in a timely manner. As planned, I ordered the Fish Fillet Benedict (Poached Eggs, Deep-Fried Fish, Coleslaw, Tartar Sauce, Butter, Hollandaise Sauce). It arrived with a salad and house fried cubed potatoes. The eggs were done perfect, the fried fish amazingly succulent and tasty, sitting on a bed of coleslaw. Overall, not too acidic, optimally blended flavors that married both texture and bite. A lovely brunch. Anything they can do better? I would say that their potato cubes need to be larger to give more depth and the taste of potato to the plate. Small potato pieces also dry out faster and do not have much starch character. I get Ube is not a super strong flavor but the lack of even any hint of flavor was really disheartening. We both also got matcha, mine iced and his hot. The hot matcha was the worst matcha we've both ever had. It tasted watered down and like poor quality matcha. Mine (iced) was ok but nothing to rave about...just very basic (at best). I was going to order the omelet, but I decided to get what they are known for, the popping yolk burger, and it was delicious. It came with Angus beef, a sunny side up egg, grilled mushrooms, cheddar cheese, and a honey mustard sauce. It also came with a garden spring salad and fried potatoes--wowzers, chef's kiss! I basically wiped out my plate cuz it was so good. It's located in Pasadena, really close to the De Lacey parking garage, so for two hours, it's $1. I was with my disabled son and newborn and ordered a couple drinks to go (green iced mango tea and grapefruit juice). We waited at a small table in the very front outside for our drinks. When I picked our drinks and brought them back to the small table I waited no more than 2-3 minutes (my son needed a few minutes to transition before departing). The registrar came out of the cafe to our table and said we could not sit there due to not having a reservation.
