Houston's has been one of my favorite steak restaurants in Pasadena for years, and I'm happy to say it is just as good today as I remember. Even though it's part of a chain, the restaurant consistently delivers quality food, reliable service, and a comfortable atmosphere that keeps me coming back. The steak was cooked perfectly and paired well with their classic fries, which were crisp, flavorful, and always a satisfying side. The salad was also exceptionally fresh, with high-quality ingredients that made it feel more thoughtful than a typical steakhouse starter. What I appreciate most about Houston's is its consistency--whether visiting years ago or today, the food quality and service remain dependable. Service was attentive, professional, and efficient throughout the meal. The only downside is the long line at the entrance, even for guests with reservations. However, the staff manages the crowd well, and despite the wait, we were seated earlier than expected. Overall, Houston's continues to be one of the most reliable dining spots in Pasadena, offering a great steakhouse experience with solid food, excellent service, and a level of consistency that is increasingly hard to find.
This was my first time at any of the Hillstone restaurants and it did not disappoint. We had reservations and was seated relatively quickly, highly recommend making a reservation. We absolutely loved everything we ordered: -nigiri plate -rotisserie chicken -prime rib sandwich Everything tasted amazing (surprisingly the sushi was delicious!). We got cocktails and mid-cocktail the server came by and refreshed my martini glass to a cold one. The food quality and the service made our first visit so great that we are excited to try the other Hillstone restaurants.
We can't say no to Houston's, it's worth the wait. We also live the bar seating if it's only my husband and I. No matter where you sit, you always get excellent service. Food is always amazing and drink of course when you sit down first thing is to order the grilled artichokes omg I had the crispy chicken sandwich on a house made bread wow so good and I ate it all excellent food, service and location.
I came here for an early Valentine dinner but everyone seem to have the same idea as us so the wait was long. Note to self: Make a reservation next time. While waiting, there was a waitress who took drinks orders for people waiting. Other than the long wait, when my bf and I got seated, we were seated at the Bar. I ordered the Hawaiian steak and he ordered the wood grilled ribeye. I kept stealing my boyfriend's fries, the baked potato was alright. However for the medium Hawaiian steak, I ordered it was really good, the marinate was sweet and flavorful. My bf's wood grilled steak was very juicy. The service was friendly and kept asking us if we needed anything.
I wish Yelp had half ratings because I would give this place a 3.5. Some dishes were great but others fell short. Reservations are a must, it gets busy even for lunch. And honestly if I were to come back, I would only go for dinner. The price you pay is too high for lunch. Inside is dimly lit, another reason it's better to go for dinner, has a more romantic vibe. Service was really good 5/5. We got some sushi and the spinach dip. I would skip the sushi, it was mediocre, not worth the price. Spinach dip as also just ok. They can do without the sour cream on the side. Main dish which was the sole was actually really good. Amazing flavor, I would recommend it for sure!

The layered sushi roll is 5 pieces of low quality sushi. The spinach dip is like eating Applebee's spinach dip. I was scared our main dishes were going to be similar. Fortunately, the main dishes were great. We ordered the Hawaiian steak, which was seasoned and cooked well. The prime rib sandwich was delicious as well. Don't waste money on the appetizers or sushi.
My wife and I came to Houston's for my birthday dinner, but we've actually been here many times because the food, service, and ambience are consistently top notch. Our go-to dishes are the Hawaiian Steak (medium rare) and either the Baby Back Ribs or the French Dip. The Hawaiian Steak is super juicy and flavorful, and the loaded baked potato is to die for. The Baby Back Ribs have a great barbecue flavor with a nice crisp texture, and the fries are always solid. The beef in the French Dip is also really tender and moist, which makes it another favorite. The service is excellent, from the hosts at the front to the wait staff. Everyone is friendly and attentive. The ambience is modern and dimly lit, which makes it a great spot for a date night or special occasion. Another plus is the free parking lot with plenty of spaces, which is always convenient. It does get pretty busy, so I'd recommend making a reservation ahead of time. Overall, Houston's is one of those places that's consistently good, which is why we keep coming back.
Reservations were easy and was made directly through their website (https://houstons.com/locations/pasadena/). I made reservations the night before for a late lunch and was able to lock one in. We were a couple of minutes early and they already had a table set up for me and my wife. Leilani was our server and she was simply amazing! From the time we sat down, to ordering and food arriving to our table, everything was quick. Our go to items are always the Pan-Asian Noodle Salad and The Hawaiian (medium-rare). Food was made-to-order and portions were large enough to share between the both of us. The Spinach Artichoke dip is a must for us, but we were so full trying to finish everything. EVERYTHING was delicious! Overall, the staff was extremely attentive and were always checking in on us to see if we needed anything. At one point, we ran out of chips for the artichoke dip and they brought some more for us immediately. Houston's is always a nice treat for us when in the area and we can't wait to come back again!
I received a gift card here for $100 from a dear friend of mine. I never tried this place before and wanted to give it a shot. Outside, there's a vast parking lot near the back lot of the place. Me and a friend found one luckily although there may have been way more towards the rear but we were able to find one close by the entrance. Inside is low ambient lighting and a unique layout. Sort of like wood ranch, stone fire barbecue if you ever been. There was a booths to the sides and a massive bar round table where a lot of people were sitting, near the middle were a ton of booths with stairs leading up and down and a nice clean bathroom in the back corner. The AC was ramped up high on a very hot day exceeding 90 degrees outside. Service was excellent, the main waitress we had was pleasant all the way through our time being there. Her energy was incredibly high and she had a natural friendly behavior that is rare to see nowadays. Although it may be because she was hitting on my friend pretty much the entire time. She was flirting, telling him about the drinks and recommended things to order completely ignoring me, but not in a mean way. She was just well, attracted to him. As for the service at the front, the lady that seated us was really nice too. Very friendly, good communication like I never seen before in a lot of places. 5/5 overall in that regard, I felt appreciated and it's very rare to see that respect nowadays. As for the food, well, it is pricey. This is an expensive restaurant without question, but the quality and taste of the food was excellent. Fast service maybe 15 minutes and we got not only the appetizers, but the entree. We ordered sushi 8 piece tuna roll, artichoke dip with sour cream and salsa and chips, my friend got a lemon drop martini the waitress recommended for him because she liked him a lot, I just got water. The water was served in a small glass cup that was nice to grip and drink from. For entrees, I ordered the French dip with au jus and horseradish. It was so dang good. 5/5 in flavor and texture. The horseradish and au jus was so delicious with the sandwich. I also received coleslaw which was meh. My friend ordered the rotisserie chicken plate with greens. It was alright, but nothing spectacular. It was a 4/5 and both dishes were $29 each from what I remember. Not exactly cheap, but it was tasty. Our total was about $133. This exceeded the $100 we initially had. We tipped the waitress for outstanding service. The ambiance was amazing and the seats inside were full and comfy. I would recommend this place, I'll be back again for sure. Maybe on a special occasion though. It was better than most restaurants I have been too. Too bad it's far from home.
Had reservations on Sunday 7:30p - place was packed ! Was able to find parking in their parking lot. Amazing vibes overall. Ordered a lemon drop - half way thru the service - glass was changed to frosted glass which awesome! Had the best service with our waitress Julie! She made our first time experience at Houston's very pleasant! Can't wait to go back!
Excellent food and service. Make sure to make reservations, because the bf winged it tonight and we waited 45 mins. But well worth it. Heated towels. Endless refills that never had to be requested. Delicious food. Conscientious service. I had the Scottish Salmon and bf had the Hawaiian ribeye. I did send my salmon back - but it was because they default to a medium rare cook on the salmon and for most people that's preferred. I can't have raw, so they were super great about it. They quickly served me a fresh plate with it cooked to a perfect medium. Seasoned well - very tasty! The ribeye was really good and you can smell steak deliciousness throughout the restaurant so I'm glad I got to taste it! Expensive but tasty!! We were too full for dessert, but great date night!!

What a fantastic birthday surprise! My girlfriend blindfolded me and refused to tell me where we were going for my 49th birthday. I had no idea what to expect, but wow... she absolutely nailed it! The pineapple ribeye was amazing packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. The wood-grilled ribeye never fails: tender, juicy, and absolutely phenomenal. Every bite was worth it. Of course, I had to pair it with their regular margarita, and as always, it did not disappoint. Consistently delicious every time. Great food, great drinks, and an unforgettable birthday experience. My love made an excellent choice, and this place helped make the celebration even more special. We'll definitely be back! read more

Always consistently wonderful. The best margaritas and food. Fresh Fresh, Fresh ingredients are always used and it shows in the quality of the dishes. If you love french fries , they are a MUST try at Houston's. The service at the Pasadena location Is amazing and again always consistent. A 10 out of 10 experience. I took my friend here for her birthday and between the both of us, we ordered the Caesar salad, the spinach and artichoke dip, the fillet, and the ribeye. Everything was amazing and the steaks were cooked to perfection. I am not usually a person who likes marinated steaks however their ribeye was tender and so flavorful I would highly recommend each and every dish that we got. Our server, Nico, ensured that our experience here was nothing less than wonderful. Houston's restaurant is definitely a gem of Pasadena. If you're looking for a great steak or a girls night or a date night, I would highly recommend this wonderful restaurant. read more
Houston's is so good! I brought my mom for her birthday. Houston's is always a hit. The spinach dip and bbq ribs are my favorite. Last night, the line was crazy though! We waited almost 2 hours to be seated but it was well worth the wait! I will be back, wait time be darned! Our waiter was very attentive and the host was gracious. Sexy atmosphere. Delectable steaks. Amazing Asian noodle salad. Gorgeous sushi. Freshly grilled artichokes. Cocktails like Paper Planes and crisp martinis with goat cheese stuffed olives. Warm apple tart with walnuts and ice cream. A beautiful Koi pond in the lobby and outside. Every meal here has been superb. Free parking makes it even more sexy! Make reservations because otherwise your wait time will be 45 minutes to an hour. Be aware that there is a dress code. Nothing too fancy, but don't look sloppy. It's a beautiful place -- so go for it! read more
Came here to celebrate my fiancé's birthday, and overall it was a great experience. I'd definitely recommend making a reservation--this place fills up quickly, and wait times can easily hit an hour. The ambiance is beautiful: a fully stocked bar, open kitchen, and even a koi pond at the entrance, which the kids loved. Since we had a reservation, we were seated pretty quickly and our waters were filled right away. We had already looked over the menu, so we knew exactly what we wanted. We started with the artichoke dip and the coconut shrimp roll--both were amazing. My daughter isn't the biggest fan of the regular menu, but they do offer an off-menu grilled cheese with fries, which she loved. Just something to note: they don't have an official kids menu. For our mains, my fiancé and I both ordered the Hawaiian steak with a baked potato, and it was finger-licking good. Super flavorful and cooked perfectly. I also had the raspberry mojito--really refreshing with fresh lime and mint. For dessert, my daughter got the hot fudge sundae and absolutely devoured it. Our server, Elina (hope I'm spelling that right!), was fantastic--very attentive and especially accommodating with our daughter. All in all, I'd give this place 5/5 stars. Perfect for a date night or special occasion. For families with kids, I'd say more like a 3/5 just because there's no dedicated kids menu--but they do try to accommodate. 繁華落盡，不代表一切就結束，而是另一種開始，在這麼寧靜的時刻，靜下心來，或許才能夠聽到自己內心深處真正的聲音～ 既然寫了Newport Beach 的Gulfstream, 順便來寫同一家公司的Houston's, 剛好朋友生日，說要來這一家慶生，他說慶生時都來這吃牛排，我十來年前來過這家餐廳，這次有點被嚇到，禮拜五中午11:30開門，我居然是跟著一堆人排隊進去， 阿不是說經濟很不景氣, 而且我們開始吃飯的時候餐廳差不多全滿了，阿來這裡當然就要點上一個餐廳，我說沒有吃到的蟹餅，滿滿的真蟹肉、 不像有些店是滿滿的粉，這一家比較有良心，中午就有了，他們的殼殼湯跟Gulfstream 一模一樣的味道, 確定就是姐妹餐廳， 牛排煎的真的很香很好， 傳統作法， 份量足又嫩，還點了他們推薦的guacamole, 這道更讚， 沙拉85 分，本來我帶去了蛋糕， 他們說不能有外來的時食物，最後再點了南瓜cheese cake 吹蠟燭，也好好吃歐， 難怪人那麼多， 雖然餐廳沒有任何花俏的手法，但每一道菜都很用心，也很好吃， 價格也可以接受，很棒的餐廳！ read more
I was down in La to play Pokemon go. I found this place while I was exploring the Pasadena area during the event. I had seen it the year before and it was packed but didn't stay to eat there. This year I made reservations and invited my friend. Great service . Good food . We ordered sushi for appetizers. They used soy wrap not nori. We ordered the guacamole also. It was very fresh only bad thing not enough chips. The sushi was different but good. For my entree I had the French dip. The most tender beef I have ever had in a French dip. The restaurant was nice more set up on the romantic side dimly lit. I would definitely go back. read more
Houston has a dark and moody ambience fit for most occasions. A little loud for a date but great for family and friends. It's always packed so definitely make reservations in advance. Their artichokes melt in your mouth and tend to sell out early. The cheeseburger is solid all around, while the prime rib sandwich is absolutely mouthwatering. The pan seared salmon was crispy on the outside and juicy inside. They are also very accommodating to dietary restrictions and are able to substitute sides, sauces, etc. Overall, they do execute simple foods very well. We made dinner reservations for Friday and found free parking pretty easily in their lot. Upon check in we were sat within 5min. Our waiter Madison was very attentive and had great recommendations! We tried the Hawaiian ribeye (10/10!) and the nigiri plate - both steak and fish were smooth like butter! Their chardonnay and hot fudge sundae were delicious as well. Will definitely come back for another date night! read more
Honestly for a nicer place in Pasadena this might be one of the best! The coconut shrimp roll was good, but a little bland until the spicy mayo came to dip it in. The chicken sandwich was so yummy and filling! The Hawaiian steak was great. The sundae was also yummy! The fudge was insanely good and it was vanilla bean ice cream so I was happy. read more

Houston's, Hillstone or Banderas in the end the Pasadena location is top notch. The staff are great, service is quick and the kitchen delivers great food. I always start with a vodka martini with the goat cheese stuffed olives, may go for a roll or salad next. My main is always the Hawaiian Ribeye it's the perfect sweet to fat balance and grilled medium how I like it. From the bar or booth this is a great spot for any occasion. read more

Came here on a Saturday night with reservations 2 weeks in advance. They are extremely busy and not built for large parties. I highly recc coming as a party of 2 if you're trying to do a walk in. Great ambiance, seating area is spaced out well, unlike many trendy LA restaurants. Roughly $100 per person included 2 entrees, 2 apps, 2 drinks. Ribeye ans ribs were 10/10. Cooked perfectly. I love their fries too. Yellowtail "salad" was delish and refreshing. Deviled eggs were good but skippable. I did not like the jackrabbit drink. Looking forward to coming back and trying different things. read more
I haven't visited this location in several years. It was good to come back. This location is nestled on a corner with a small lot. There is additional parking as well as street parking available. At 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon this place had a 30-45m wait. It was packed. We found quick seating at the bar, our servers were top tier! I'm so glad we chose the bar. The spinach & artichoke dip was amazing, and the Hawaiian ribeyes were equally amazing. Sadly because we were early (dining before 4), we had to have French fries instead of the baked potatoes we were craving but our meal was still GREAT! I can't wait to come back and I'll again sit at the bar hoping to see our same 3 servers. read more

1STAR to the artichoke last night. Usually the best but the quality was terrible vs the past and very expensive. Rest of the good and service was good. Cesar salad was "delicious" and steak was decent. Not Flemings, but tasted good and less cost. Fries just ok. read more

I saw that the Houston's/Hillstone restaurant empire has an online following, and it makes so much sense. The type of food honestly gives upscale chilis, but in a very quality ingredients way. If it's your first time: highly highly recommend the prime rib sandwich and the spinach dip. The ribeye is good too if you'd like a steak. This is my favorite place to go to for a steak at good price for great flavors. Everything they make at Houston's is quality. I especially love the burgers and steak. They have a secret menu item called the Hickory Burger and while it is not made the same way it was before switching out Canadian Bacon and mountain of shredded cheddar they have American bacon and still use the sweet hickory sauce still. For lunch I always get the French dip -- it's fantastic, made from cuts of prime rib! I had it again here and it was great as usual. My friend had the yellowtail sashimi and kale salad. I'm not a fan of kale salad but I had a taste and it was ok. (To each her own). The cocktails were both very nice. A great touch was that or server came to give us a new chilled glass when she saw that we were nursing our drinks and the first glass had lost its chill. That's what I call great service. read more
I was a little bit let down by Houstons in a few respects. The food was ok - except for the terribly thick chicken tortilla soup. It was kind of gross tbh. I was surprised to see very few steak options. The steaks come with sides included - unlike other steak houses (i.e.Flemings) where the sides are ordered separately. In terms of ambiance - it was really dark and in need of some updates. No fancy tablecloths here. Our drinks weren't automatically refilled - had to request this. They don't even ask if you're celebrating a special occasion. Parking was a disaster - very busy. Nice Pasadena location. Won't be coming back - but they don't need my business - somehow they're doing very well! read more

With a reservation you will not have to wait if you just walk in it depends on how busy the restaurant is at the time you decide to go

Yes, you can no issue.
Can you accommodate a party of 20?
No. You can reserve a table for two or for four, but not for a table of 6 which is walk-in (first come first serve) only. Other than those tables, there is seating at the bar.
Do they do anything special for birthdays or anniversaries?
Nothing crazy the regular like other restaurants but it's a treat to go there and I just visited the Irvine one where they had their key lime pie .... OMG now I felt like it was my birthday cause I got an extra slice to go.
Is there outdoor seating at the restaurant right now?
No unfortunately they do not. I'd go early or for lunch maybe not as crowded. But there is a bar so some people come in just to sit and have a drink. Next time would not sit so close to bar.
