Tucked in off Colorado Blvd. (Where il Fornaio used to be) Valet up front for $25 or lots of parking in nearby structures. We got a fairly last-minute reservation for a party of eight on a Sunday evening. We were seated promptly at a what felt like a large high top table, furniture is beautiful, ambience is lovely, it is open light and airy with tropical design. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. We got two orders of the "La Tablita" with chicken and steak, steak quesadillas, and lots of tacos. Drinks were great, especially the spicy jalapeno marg. For dessert we got the churros, and our waiter generously brought out two birthday ice creams for the kids we were celebrating. The drinks took quite a while, and although our server was friendly, we barely saw her throughout the night. This location has so many memories for me because we had many birthday celebrations and memorable meals here when it used to be Il Fornaio. So to see Javier's open here feels like a new Pasadena restaurant landmark. The decor is absolutely 10 out of 11. Beautiful, beautiful. I first came for lunch with a friend, and later came back for dinner. Lunch feels more casual and not too busy, good for a business casual lunch or just catching up with friends. Dinner is much busier and has more of a vibe. I don't drink alcohol, but everyone keeps saying the espresso martini is the hit, so if you're not like me, that's probably something to try. For me, my absolute favorite is honestly the chips. I don't think I've ever had tortilla chips so crunchy and perfect -- not too oily, not overly fried, just perfect. I could eat them all day. Javier's menu is known for elevated Mexican dishes, seafood, enchiladas, ceviche, guacamole, queso fundido, and handcrafted cocktails. They charge extra for rice and beans since it doesn't come with the dish. Tablitas with asada, 7.5/10: A good portion for a small group. The asada is cooked medium, with a great sear on it. It could use a bit more seasoning. I like that it comes on the hot grill. The sides that accompany it are solid: rice, beans, guacamole, grilled veggies. Dish is filling and can be easily shared. Margarita, 6/10: First time seeing a house margarita served with no garnishes, no fruit, no lemon, nothing. It came cloudy and tasted bland. I will say they did not skimp on the tequila. Ceviche de pulpo, 8.5/10: Easily the best dish there. Octopus tastes fresh, not fishy at all. It has a nice chew and is cooked appropriately. The refreshing vegetables highlight the bright flavors of the octopus well. Minor detail is I'd prefer bigger chunks of octopus for a meatier bite. I appreciate what this restaurant is going for. The salsa and warm chips were delicious our food was served quickly. It was pretty expensive for not that much food, but then again, it's Javier's so we expected it. The only downfall was that the valet was not out front to take our car, so finding parking close enough for me to walk with back issues took about 30 mins. We decided to dine here for Valentine's Day, I'm sure if it were any other day it wouldn't be as crowded and packed at the front door but it was jammed packed February 14th ! Started the meal with warm chips and homemade salsa with a hint of spice. Ordered the most delicious fish ceviche, as an appetizer. We shared the pork chop entrée, which was seasoned perfectly and juicy. Customer service was on point on all levels, especially during our meal! Save your pennies, we ordered two sodas, one appetizer, one entrée, and one dessert, and our bill with tip was $133. As everyone knows, parking in Pasadena is limited and extremely difficult thus, parking structures are your best bet - they don't validate! I visited with my sister and mother around noon, without reservations, and they gladly welcomed us and sat us immediately. Our server, Marcos, was very attentive, friendly, and offered his personal recommendation on drinks. Our food was delicious and didn't take long to arrive. The drinks were exquisite and refreshing. If you don't know your way around Pasadena then parking alone is gonna get you upset at this location but if you do know where to park and what alleys to take to get here then it will be easy and no hassle at all to take a quick 4min walk from the parking structure down the street. After reading the reviews, I am very surprised to read negative reviews about service and food quality when, as of this review, the service, food and ambiance was amazing. Same as Vegas to be honest. So, it seems whatever issues patrons were experiencing prior, have been fixed. The only complaint I have is that it is REALLY LOUD at both locations. Not because of music but just people so I'm not sure this is really a complaint against Javier's but the people that attend the restaurant. Be prepared to yell a lot at your table. We ordered the Queso fundido and it came with corn and flour tortillas Good cheese, pieces of chorizo and mushroom, came out HOT and tons of flavor. House salad tossed in ranch. Fresh and good. Scallops was a special they were running and it came with asparagus and mash potatoes. The scallops you can taste is freshness and it came with a creamy chipotle sauce. The sides were seasoned and compliments the dish. Steak skirt med, came out perfectly cooked and seasoned. Paired with a fresh green salsa, fries were ok, a little bland but the beans were good. The end of our meal we had the Flan and pan de elote Flan was creamy and really good. No air pockets but at the end of the flan. corn bread came with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and it was great with the bread. My friend and I went to Javier's in Pasadena, located in the One Colorado shopping center, and had a fantastic experience. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted and taken to our table. Our server, Ivan, was amazing--friendly, attentive, and full of great recommendations. The restaurant has a chic Tulum-inspired vibe, enhanced by the music playing in the background, which really set the mood. We ordered the shrimp empanadas, and they were absolutely to die for--perfectly crispy on the outside, with savory, flavorful shrimp inside. We also shared the Arrachera plate, which was more than enough for both of us and beautifully prepared. Overall, this place is a must. Great food, great service, and an incredible atmosphere.
