Lupita's is located at 2383 East Colorado Boulevard Pasadena, California 91107. It is a family-owned Mexican restaurant with a long history of serving traditional family recipes. These recipes have been handed down and developed with great spices and unique flavors. When you walk into this quaint, cute boutique restaurant, you are immediately engulfed in the aromas of quality food. It is a sensory experience. I was immediately welcomed by the friendly staff. I told them that I needed some time to understand some of the descriptions on the menu. They offered assistance explaining some of their unique dishes. I let them know that I was going to be taking all of the items to go. It was difficult to decide on only a few items. I knew I was going to be ordering for a couple days of great food. I decided on: Burrito Gordito Carne Asade Wet A Chicken and Beef Enchilada plate with red and green sauce with rice and beans. 1 Nachos (Chicken) with lots of cheese Taquitos ... Chicken, Beef, Pork with rice and beans While I waited for my order, I listened to the music playing in the background. There were a number of people that came in and picked up orders that they had phoned in or placed online. The staff was busy checking orders for pickup or taking care of the diners at the tables. They called my name and carefully double checked my order with me, before I left. When I arrived home, the fragrance of the fresh cooked food filled my kitchen. All the items were incredible! I was especially pleased with the cheese spice and flavor of the chicken nachos. I was able to add some of their fresh made salsa to add some extra kick. The enchiladas were incredible. The red and green sauce added color as well as flavor. The taquitos were also excellent. Filled with meat and flavor. The carne asada burrito was excellent. The flavor with the addition of some salsa and sauce was filled with meat. Meat was not just small shredded pieces but large flavorful bites. Well the main parts of my meal were exceptional so were the sides. The rice, the beans, the crisp tortilla chips, all added to this delightful eating experience. I will definitely be back to this hidden gem, located among some other great boutique stores and restaurants. The staff provided conversation as well as expertise. We came specifically for the shrimp cocktail after hearing great things from our neighborhood community. This was actually our second attempt, the first time we showed up on a Saturday afternoon they were closed, despite their online hours saying otherwise. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and came back. Service was okay. The food? Disappointing. The shrimp cocktail was the whole reason we made the trip. It tasted watered down, had no seasoning, no lemon, and still had shell on the shrimp. It genuinely tasted like a pre-made Costco cocktail in red dyed water. The fajita plate (shrimp, beef, and chicken) was passable but nothing special. What really ended it for us were the hidden fees. We ordered the fajita plate $30 (+ taxes) a massive spread with a separate plate of rice and beans and they brought out THREE corn tortillas. THREE... I am Mexican. I have eaten at hundreds of restaurants in my lifetime and have never been given only three tortillas for a plate that size. We asked for more tortillas and were charged $4 with zero warning. It's not about the money it's the principle. The charge was never disclosed. When I brought it up with the owner, Lupita, she was dismissive and couldn't explain the reasoning it's not even homemade tortillas. You can literally buy 90 tortillas for $4 at a grocery store! She took off one of the charges but kept the other $2. Meanwhile, they offer unlimited chips and complimentary salsa without blinking. The inconsistency is baffling. We genuinely wanted to support this family-run restaurant we loved seeing the family come in together. But the disrespect during that conversation made it impossible to leave on good terms. Do yourself a favor and drive about a 1.5 miles down the street to El Metate. Their large shrimp cocktail is $15, is so flavorful, and the staff treats you like family. Their pozole is outstanding too. We found them on our first failed attempt to come here and we'll be going back to them exclusively from now on. We will never return to Lupita's and made it clear to not go there in our community thread with 15K people. Despite what a previous reviewer said, I find the shrimp cocktail excellent! I've had it several times and have never been disappointed. There has always been ample lime and saltines. Plus, I can add however much hot sauce and ketchup to customize the taste. The previous reviewer compared the cost and taste to El Metate shrimp cocktail. Theirs is delicious, too, but it's a smaller serving so I feel the cost is about equal. Taste is subjective, but I find Lupita's shrimp cocktail to be of high quality. Both restaurants have great food, but don't let one review deter you from trying Lupita's. read more

Update my review. I love this little Mexican restaurant and my mom loves the chile relleno here. I am not a fan of chile rellenos but I must admit that it is very good. I get the carnitas burrito with wet sauce or if I'm really hungry I get the Burrito Gordito with wet sauce. There's plenty of other great options to choose from. After my wife eye doctor appointment in Pasadena we're very hungry then I check my Yelp to look up any restaurants around the distance from the eye doctor. Suddenly Lupita comes pop out close by then decided to go there to have dinner. The restaurant is in shopping center on the corner of Colorado Blvd and Sierra Madrea Blvd. Parking at shopping center always full because of retail stores and other restaurants. We found parking then we walk to the restaurant in corner we in the restaurant and we're greeted by the waitress and she say sit anywhere you like and we did. Then she hand us the hand,we can look and decided what to order. The waitress came and bought us fresh chips and salsa two type salsa Pico de gallo and smoked chile salsa made fresh daily they were so good we enjoy it.. My wife decided to order the chicken and shrimp Fajitas comes with rice and beans and guacamole and the choice of corn or flour tortillas. I order the Pollo Sonorense aka Sonora Chicken simmered with tomatillos,onion and garlic also come with rice and bean and your choice of corn or flour tortillas. Then waitress brought my wife Fajitas they were sizzling hot from the kitchen it smell pretty good with all the ingredients made the Fajitas delicious. Then she brought my Pollo Sonorense aka Sonora Chicken it smell so good I can smell the spices and garlic and onion also fresh tomatillos they use in sauce. As we were leaving Lupita's, my daughter whispered, "I think I want to come back here again". I nodded in agreement with a smile of satisfaction, and a happily full tummy. I ordered 2 Tacos à la carte, thinking they would be 2 small tacos. No, these babies were full of meat and very generous. After I ate one, I was already filling up. I chose their carne asada and carnitas, both which were delicious. My husband ordered their burrito Gordita, and they were indeed very large. He loved it so much he tried to finish it, but couldn't get the last few bites in. Lupitas meals are very generous, especially for their price. But they are also SO delicious. The restaurant is cozy, and the owner is very nice. I noticed he had many drawings that his daughter had drawn for him. When I asked, he said they were all from when she was young. Greasy spoon Mexican at its best! Family run restaurant that is a total gem. Delicious roasted pepper salsas and hot chips to start off. Nothing on the menu is bad. But the velvety red enchiladas are a dream. The whole fried fish is crispy and served hot. The chile verde tart and savory with tender pieces of pork, the enchiladas suizas a perfect mix of sour and savory. Lightly battered with a touch of heat, the chile reinos are delicious. In the summer, the ceviches are outstanding as are the sopas and tostadas. Very personable and jolly hosts/owners, Lupitas wins on all fronts. Have enjoyed Lupitas since the 90s. When I was in high school I used to love getting the nachos because they use fresh cheese instead of nacho cheese so yummy. The service is good the owner is so nice .We really enjoy the fresh hot tortilla chips with salsa, they give you a pico de gallo and a blackened salsa that is so yummy. Lately I have been on a quest to find the best chile relleno burrito.... I am a vegetarian and I love a good chile relleno burrito so far I've had four from here and every time they hit the rice is so flavorful, the beans are flavorful, and the chile relleno is perfectly cooked I get it wet with half green half red so yummy.It leaves me So Satisfied .....if you're in the area you got to try literally everything's good here though highly recommend read more

A small restaurant in the corner of a strip mall. Casual and relaxed. They have a nice variety on the menu. Chips were served out of a warming oven (a personal favorite of mine) with two types of salsa. I ordered Arroz con Pollo, my wife odered Chile Colorado. Both dishes were hot and plentiful. Corn tortillas on the side with both. The dishes were well prepared and very flavorful. Service was good even though it was busy with dine-in and take out orders. The kitchen at Lupita's might be small, but they sure are fast. I was really craving enchiladas, and luckily for me enchiladas suizas is on the menu. The plate came probably 5 minutes after I ordered, and someone in the kitchen is paying attention because it's a really nice lookng plate of food. Everything is hot and delicious. They start you with chips and *2 kinds* of salsa. The green one is definitely my fave. Service was great, and my iced tea got refilled so was happy about that. This place is a solid 3.5 stars. I can see myself coming back here when in need of a carne asada burrito fix--which let's be real, is very often. A good addition to my local eats rotation. I ordered the carne asada burrito. The meat was well seasoned, not too salty. Everything came together well and was a great, hearty meal. My husband ordered the shrimp burrito, wet. I think you can get all the burritos wet or dry. The sauce and cheese were super flavorful on his shrimp burrito, but noted the sauce pretty much overtakes the burrito, for better or worse. For what it's worth, we both like the sauce. Our food came with chips, which I always appreciate! Busy during meal times. We ordered ahead by calling in, but they're relatively popular, so husband noted he needed to hang out a little before good was ready, but no big deal. read more

Had a bean and cheese on my bean and cheese addicted 2 month hiatus. Not the best but not the worst. But really is off the chain though, was the salsas they gave me. All of them were the bomb! I saw a review that described the staff as warm and friendly. I find it hard to believe. Or maybe they're only friendly to certain customers. I'm glad they were treated much better than we were. One hour before stopping into Lupita's I went to another restaurant to get take out for a family member who really loves the food there. That place was busy. They're always busy. Even so, in all the time I've been to this other place there is not a time they haven't been warm, grateful and helpful. When I have to wait outside they come to look for me and deliver my order. They do it for everyone. Even though they're tired and busy, they love offering this service. I always get a warm smile and a thank you. Of course I love them and always tip. I'm so appreciative of their behavior. They are lovely people who offer great customer service and that means a lot to me. For a restaurant to be so busy all the time I would understand if they were a little irritable or short. But no. They love their customers and appreciate our business. That's not the same feeling I get at Lupita's. Cut to Lupita's where we went afterwards. It's not very busy and there are two people at the register. One person taking the order and the other standing around. We went to sit and wait for our food. When it was ready instead of walking our take out to the table, we were called to pick it up. I guess walking 6 feet to the table was asking too much of the two people standing at the register, even though no one was in line and they could easily have come. Okay, whatever. I could let that laziness go but what really bothered me was standing in front of them and not a word was spoken. Not a thank you. Not a goodbye. Not a "come back soon" or "enjoy." Nothing. Not even eye contact. It was a feeling of, you can just leave now. We're busy talking and you're interrupting us. I felt my patronage could not be appreciated less. I'd call that not great customer service. I'd even call it rude. So if this place doesn't care enough to kindly deliver a take out order to a table right in front of them, or to acknowledge a person bringing you the money and business you hope for as a restaurant then why do I need to go? I really don't. I'm sorry I gave a tip before they showed us lousy service. I gave two stars for hot food. Zero for thankless staff. read more

Poor value for what it is. I had the Baja burrito. It was rice and beans with small shrimp. It was a $17 burrito, absolutely not fresh for the price. Food was just ok, bland and not fresh. On top of this, this place charges for sauce and tortillas. Keep in mind the additional charges. The place is a hole in the wall but charges way more than it's worth. Was not a clean place either. Lol, the default tip on the screen starts at 18% when paying with card. Will definitely never come back. Wahoo's Fish Tacos or even Baja Fresh are infinitely better. read more
