It's been eight months since my previous review and I reordered menudo for Saturday lunch. It was just a good now as back then. Really delicious menudo broth and plenty of tripe. The broth was so tasty you could dip chips in it and make another meal. All the usual condiments were included in my order: cilantro, oregano, chopped cebolla, lemons, tortillas and a small addition I always request: a small plastic cup of chopped fried garlic. Add that to your menudo it'll give it an extra taste kick: from tasty to fabulous! I'm still licking my lips and savoring that menudo order way after I finished it off. Sho' am good! read more

This place is batting 1000. Every single dish I've tried here has given me that closed-eyes, chef's kiss hand, can't stop shoveling it in (which I NEVER do), then sad when it's gone feels. I read some of the comments and the place sounded good but who ever recommended their menudo doesn't know about the good stuff. I came in at 8:00 am on a Saturday and ordered menudo which they only sale on Saturday and Sunday so I would think it's was fresh but when they served it,it was lukewarm and very little tripe. It wasn't very flavorful eather. Their tortillas are hand made and that's good but also lukewarm. The lady at the register was nice but I wouldn't come back for menudo. Perhaps to try something different... Now if you want a real Mexican experience for menudo I recommend Los Petates in east LA . Bigger portion smaller price and %100 Mexican flavor read more

Every evening when driving home on Lake Ave, I would see a line of people outside at this restaurant and I always wondered how it was. I finally got around to trying Sofia's today and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it! I tried the asada and birria tacos with an horchata to drink. First thing I did was take a sip of the horchata - it was so fresh tasting! I'm used to most places having horchata that's too watery or doesn't have quite the right amount of spices, but this one was perfect! After getting back home, I started in on the birria tacos first. They were so juicy and flavorful. The meat tasted like they cooked it with care and they had this hot green salsa that added a delightful spiciness to it. Next were the asada tacos. These I didn't really like so much. They weren't bad, but they just didn't hit the spot like the birria tacos did. As for their COVID precautions, they have a table within their doorway where you order from. You can take it to go or sit down in the outdoor seating they created in their parking lot. They have a tent covering the area leading up to the entrance in case you have to wait on a sunny day. read more

My wife just finished dining outside and look forward to returning Sunday for MENUDO. Today we tried the pozole and lengua tacos. The pozole was done just right with a balance of fat to carry the rich flavors of the chile. The meat cooked to a toothsome tender wherein the gelatin still had a touch of pull and the meat moist and not overly cooked. The hominy was well done as well with it still having a bite and plumped with the sweet balancing notes of corn. The Menudo has gone Down Hill. This is my usual go to place for Menudo, but notice lately that it is not what it used to be. It use to be the best in town. When today and ordered 2 Menudo with pata. What I got was no pata and very little meat, only the broth and tiny cut pieces of menudito. I drank from the container didn't even need a spoon because again, NO meat. The broth was salty and did not have the same quality as before. And to top it all off, I wasn't given any Hand-Made tortillas. So Sadly, I need to look for a new Menudo place. Pozole was delicious; it came with tortilla chips. The service was good but the place looks drab.

Costillas de puerco are in a delicious red chili gravy like chile colorado, or kind of like a Tex-Mex sauce. Corn tortillas from a package come in a cute canasta. I just wish the meat quality was a little better. read more
