Yeah when it comes to Mexican, I'm down for tacos ANY DAY of the week and you know I'm a sucker for a good margarita. Being that it was a Saturday evening in DTLA and it was a concert night at Crypto, you know the surrounding area was packed, but we took a chance and I'm so glad we did! We waked in, said we were a party of two and despite being very busy, we're offered a table right away at one of their bar table tops. Yasssss!!! Hey, closer to the Bartender.... Let's Goooo!!! As we were in a bit of a time crunch: Not only did we have a concert to get to (don't worry, it was only a minute, two tops on foot from Sol Agave) but more importantly, we wanted to get in the Merch lines to get our Sleep Token Swag. So we wasted no time at looking at the menu, so we could decide on our drinks and food so we were ready to order once our server came by. Tacos & a Marg for me Taquitos Al Gusto & a Marg for the Mrs. And we were Happy Campers!!! We weren't super hungry as we had a late lunch, and we knew if we wanted something later, we could get something at the concert, so we ordered everything off of the Botana's section of the menu (appetizers), but the next time I come here.... If you're heading into L.A. Live for a game or event, Sol Agave has kind of become one of those "default starting line" spots for me... and honestly, it's been a bit of a rollercoaster relationship over the years. First off, the space itself is legit. Big, open, modern Mexican vibe with high ceilings, warm lighting, and a mix of rustic wood + polished finishes. There's a long bar that feels like it's always ready for pre-game action, TVs scattered throughout (CLUTCH for keeping an eye on sports), and some nice design touches, think agave-themed accents, textured walls, and a slightly upscale lounge feel without being stuffy. It looks like a place where you want to post up, grab a marg, and ease into the night. Now... here's where things got a little sideways. We rolled in at 5:30 before a Los Angeles Kings game, and were told we couldn't sit until our full party arrived. Mind you... the place was maybe half full at best. That's a tough one. You're basically telling a ready-to-spend group they can't order drinks yet. That's an easy extra round (or two) left on the table. #ANNOYING That said... once we got past the front door situation, the night rebounded nicely. Shoutout to server, 'Zagid C' and the rest of the staff, they were on point. Attentive, friendly, and kept things moving, which is key when you've got a game clock looming. Big difference-maker. They served me frozen butter cake, when when I called to let them know about it, I had them hang up on me 10 times as soon as it sounded like I wanted food, when someone finally answered the phone long enough to hear my problem, he said "I'm sorry to hear that, you should go online and leave a review about it". I was a bit shocked at the response. I didn't call them to leave a bad review; I just wanted to swap it out for a warm butter cake. I then asked him if he can just replace the butter cake, he said it's late and they are almost closing, this was 40 mins before closing and half their tables had customers still. As a last ditch effort, I said okay can I have a refund then? And he said no because you took the butter cake. I'm like... it's a to go order, of course I took it... and he hung up, and he kept hanging up on me over and over, he accidentally answered the phone one time and I overheard him telling the staff "don't answer the phone when he calls; he just wants a F** butter cake, I want to go home, just don't answer the phone and if we don't get more orders we can leave early. I am in shock over the whole experience, I feel like employees like this will definitely cause your business to close down. If anyone in management is reading this, record your phone calls. I'm not one to wanna be checked on every second but we definitely could've been checked on more as we were constantly flagging people for assistance. The food was pretty good with the entire meal being having great items and okay items. We personally felt the ceviche and pork belly bites were really good while the pulpo and guacamole was okay. Our drinks had the same feel where the grilled Pima was too but the tamarindo margarita was meh. We actually never got asked if we wanted another drink. A cute Mexican restaurant at LA Live with excellent cocktails and ceviche! It's a bit overpriced on many things but the bar is top notch. We ordered just appetizer portions and drinks and our bill was $150. The ceviche mixto to was great, fresh, a hint of spice, and plenty of seafood. The octopus was on the smaller side but cooked well and not chewy at all. We also got the pork belly bites which had plenty of crisp and lots of yum! The margaritas are so good, especially after an LA Kings victory! I was staying at a hotel in the area on a recent trip to LA and was craving Mexican food. I walked past this place and had to check Yelp to see what people were saying about it and I was immediately intrigued by the tantalizing photos and positive reviews. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a smile and shown to a table inside. It did take a while for the server to come by to take our order, but after that, the service was really great. I ordered the cucumber cilantro margarita and I think it might just be the best margarita I've ever had. I loved the flavour combo - it was so light and refreshing, especially on such a hot day. We weren't too hungry so we had the tacos and the ceviche - both were fantastic and quite filling. I wish I'd been able to try more items on the menu, though. The ceviche was one of the best I've tried, although 1-2 more tortillas would've been perfect. The tacos were filled nicely and I loved that you get to try four different kinds in one order. It was tough to choose which one I liked most as they all tasted great. I also liked that it comes with a couple of sauces but would have preferred if they were separated instead of being in the same container. It wasn't too busy so the noise level was fine for carrying on a conversation. I bet it gets pretty lively when there are events happening at the Crypto arena down the street. The food was amazing. We each got something different and all enjoyed it. Each dish was plated beautifully. The fish tacos were amazing. The chicken Tinga tacos were fantastic. The combination, chicken, mole, enchilada, and pork. Carnitas tace were great. My husband ordered the Seabass and it was beautiful and delicious. He is also a dedicated gluten-free eater due to health reasons and he ate here safely. We enjoyed watching highlights from World Cup soccer and the bathrooms were very clean. Our server, Fabian was also fantastic. The complementary fresh chips were hot and perfectly salted. They came with delicious salsa and a tasty bean dip. We all really enjoyed. Even the free chips they serve are different and interesting, going with a quite spicy salsa (for a Nee Englander) and refried beans. They kindly warned about the pork in the beans (not an issue for me but I know it would be for some so appreciated the notice). The margarita flight packed a punch and a great variety of flavors. Hard to pick a favorite though the tamarind and cucumber offerings were a nice balance to a spicy meal. The mole, would eat the sauce with a spoon. Lovely chocolate flavor with a hint of complex spices. Portion size enough for two meals. Even the rice was moist and flavorful, not dry. The 2 stars is for the polite host who took our information and the cold glasses of water, that's it. From there it went downhill. Our party of 3 arrived all together from Anime Expo on Friday 7/3 and were seated in main part of restaurant - requested Happy Hour menu because we arrived during 2-6 pm and were told we could not order HH because we were not seated in the bar high tops. We informed our server that one in our party had mobility issues and getting into a high top would not be comfortable and asked for a low table in the bar and were told there weren't any. Okay that's fine, we didn't come for drinks, we came for food. We asked for the menu to just order the food since we didn't see it on the main menu only to be rebuffed again. The reason this time was that the machine they carry around to enter the orders "won't let them" enter HH items if we weren't sat at the bar. The whole experience was very disappointing and discouraging. I can let slide the slower service (of the initial drink order/HH menu debacle) and also the limited availability of the HH items from the main menu. But the lack of accommodation when we let them know of mobility issues in our party solidified our decision to leave the restaurant. read more

My second time at Sol Agave was for lunch with a co-worker. We walked in and had the place to ourselves. There were a Few parties sitting outside enjoying the sun. I ordered the hard tinga tacos which comes with black beans and rice. I was a lil disappointed that the tinga was dry. My co worker ordered enchiladas. We also shared the ceviche plate - that was my favorite! There are tvs all around the venue. Open windows good lighting and it's a big space. Perfect for big parties and to watch any games. Our server was friendly. Didn't catch his name but he took care of us. I think we paid a little over $100 for the two of us.. not bad I guess. You do get big portions. read more

Food and music are great here. There are TV's and a bar for those who want to drink and watch the games and there is a great dining area for those mostly focused on their company. I've had many business lunches, happy hours, and dinners here. I've also come to pre-game before the movie, and I've enjoyed it every time. My team of ten had dinner at Sol Agave while attending a conference in LA. It's in a good spot, near LA Live, Crypto.com Arean, and the convention center. It's clean and bright, and the staff was very nice. We enjoyed several pitchers of house margaritas and a few apps before ordering dinner. The drinks were good, the apps were basic. Fir dinner I ordered the Cheese Chile Relleno & Carnitas Chile Relleno. It was not bad, but nothing special. It was also not very hot (temperature). The menu indicated that they were served with rice and beans, but my meal only came with rice. Everyone else seems a little lukewarm regarding their meals as well, with most left unfinished. We had a great first time experience at Sol Agave before heading to Crypto Arena to see the Sparks and we look forward to returning in the near future. What made our experience great was Aldrick. His personal attention and thoughtful recommendations really made a difference. We started with cocktails. After describing what we each liked and did not like, Aldrick helped us not only pick the perfect cocktails but also suggested how to make each drink better for our individual tastes. I don't like my drinks too sweet, so he ensured my blackberry margarita was light on agave. My wife is not a fan of tequila, so he directed her to a delicious blackberry martini. Both drinks were refreshing, well balanced and delicious. We had the fish ceviche and guacamole sampler. We did not realize the guacamole sampler would be so generous! It is three very large scoops of guacamole, the first regular guacamole, the second lobster guacamole, the third guacamole with pork. The guacamole with pork was our favorite, the pork was so delicious. The regular guacamole was also quite delicious. The lobster guacamole missed the mark. The lobster is obscured by the flavor of the guacamole and the lobster was somewhat fishy when isolated. The guacamole sampler is really best for a group of four or more, not a couple as it is quite generous. I think it would be better as a duo with just the regular guacamole and the pork guacamole. The fish ceviche was quite delicious, beautifully sauced and the corn tortilla tostadas were tasty crunchy carriers for the ceviche. We wanted to try the octopus but we were too full at this point and finished off with coffee cocktails customized by Aldrick. Sol Agave is a convenient and worthwhile restaurant choice for anyone going to a Crypto Arena event, convention event, or nearby venue like Peacock theater. Especially if you are lucky enough to be served by Aldrick. The food was great -- I'll give you that. But the service? Absolutely horrible, and I left feeling beyond disappointed. My lovely friends took me out for a birthday dinner here because they'd raved about the food, and I had never been. Safe to say, the experience was not what any of us expected. The ambiance was fine, though for dinner service, the lights absolutely should have been dimmed -- a basic touch they clearly overlooked. Now, onto the real issue: the service, or rather, the blatant discrimination and judgment that my dear friend endured before I even arrived. She got there first because I was running late, and what she experienced from two waiters was completely unacceptable and frankly, unbelievable. First, there was an issue with the beer. She specifically asked for it in a bottle -- not from the tap -- because it tastes different. Instead, they brought it from the tap anyway, only to then inform her they don't even carry it in bottles. That interaction alone was handled poorly and dismissively. Then she asked for a Remy cocktail, and instead of simply saying whether they had it or not, they sent out Armando, the manager. He claimed they didn't carry Remy at all. Fast forward -- I arrive with another friend, and surprise, the issues with the drinks continue. My friend still wanted a Remy with pineapple. So the friend who came in with me asked for the same thing. And now, suddenly -- miraculously -- they carry Remy? And not only that, but they actually had the audacity to say, "It's the most expensive bottle, and it's not opened." Excuse me? No one asked about the price. No one questioned what it cost. This was a birthday celebration, not a negotiation. The insinuation was insulting. It was condescending, belittling, and absolutely out of line. The fact that staff were swapped out after the initial beer issue only for the next server to continue with the same discriminatory tone is beyond baffling. It's clear this wasn't a one-off -- this is a pattern, and it's disgusting. So yes -- the food was good. But that's nowhere near enough to make up for the disrespect and poor treatment we experienced. I strongly recommend your team -- especially the Manager Armando -- undergo serious training in customer service and anti-discrimination. Because no guest should ever feel the way we did. read more

I usually prefer mom and pops for Mexican food but it was for a birthday celebration, so of course I had to attend :). To my surprise the food was really pretty good. Elevated, but still had the original flavors and textures you learn to love about Mexican food. Everything from the chips, bean dip, carnitas and chile Colorado (two of the many dishes on the table I tried) were all really delicious. The salsa is where they fall short in my opinion. That's what makes the food for me and theirs was timid, probably for the avg American palette :). Even the habanero which cost extra was mid at best. The food and service was so good I ate there two days in a row! A lovely combination of Mexican favorites old school and reimagined. The taquizas were flavorful, with perfectly cooked steak, shrimp, carnitas, and chicken. Most spots make you order just one protein for all of the taquizas. Not here. I enjoyed one of each. I truly hate having to write this review, but this experience was beyond disappointing and honestly upsetting. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Yes, the restaurant looks nice and the ambiance is pleasant but that's the only good thing I can say. Everything else felt like a complete letdown. I arrived at 12:00 PM with six coworkers and wasn't seated until 30 minutes later. I had to be back at work by 3:00 PM, and I genuinely thought that would be more than enough time. I was wrong. Once we were finally seated, we waited another 30 minutes just to order drinks and receive water. After that, it took 20 more minutes for my soda to arrive. Finding out that our waiter was also the bartender made everything start to make sense but that doesn't make it okay. Because I was running out of time, I asked if my food could be made to go. I was told yes. I waited another 30 minutes, hoping it would come out soon. It never did. All that came out were some basic appetizers, and by then I felt completely defeated. By 2:45 PM, my food still hadn't arrived. I had no choice but to leave hungry and frustrated. The restaurant wasn't even busy, with plenty of empty tables, which made the situation feel even more unfair and careless. I ended up getting a migraine from not eating and having low blood sugar. I had to stop somewhere else to buy food before returning to work and take a Tylenol just to function. On top of that, parking at L.A. Live is expensive, so I literally paid to sit there and be ignored. If you want to spend over three hours waiting, leave hungry, and feel completely disregarded while being overcharged for small portions of subpar, gentrified enchiladas, then this is your place. Came here for lunch after visiting the Grammy Museum. It's a large restaurant with different sections, well decorated, and even though it's indoors, it felt half outdoors as well. It was a bit busy when we came at lunch on a Saturday, but they tried to be good about not making us wait too long, like they gave us time to look through the menu, probably noticed when we put the menus down and just started looking around, and then brought out the chips and salsa and took our order. The portions are big, which makes up for the fact that it is a little bit expensive, like we probably could have shared one dish.
