I'm from Italy and it was a fantastic experience! The pasta was incredible -- in my opinion, the pasta menu is the absolute highlight. It was freshly made (you could definitely tell!) and served in great portions. The Fettuccine alla Nerano were amazing, with incredible flavor and texture. Back in Italy, pasta with clams is my favorite dish, so I was super excited to order it since it's not easy to find in the US. It was done just right -- really great! The seafood was fresh and high quality. The only minor detail is that the clams were fresh and local, likely Pacific clams, which have a less intense, briny flavor compared to the Mediterranean vongole veraci that give off that rich sea aroma. But hey, we're in Los Angeles, so you naturally adapt to local ingredients. The Caprese appetizer was good, though I wished the portion had been a bit larger. Dessert was delicious, especially the zuppa inglese gelato -- the flavor took me straight back to Italy! Exceptional staff, too: I was pregnant and needed a shaded or air-conditioned spot, and the hostess went out of her way to find a table that suited my needs. The food was fantastic as was the service. The wait staff, Dalton, made a recommendation upon request, and he was spot on which was the pomodoro entree & one other. The recommendation was a hit. I also ordered the prosciutto e melone as an appetizer, it was a magnificent meal. I went to Settecento on Friday night with a friend and really enjoyed it! The decor and ambiance are so cool and unique. The bar area has these pillars made of books, which I thought was such a fun touch. We were seated on one of their outdoor patios, which was really nice. Once we ordered, the food came out pretty quickly. We shared the bread basket, calamari, and fettuccine. I had the branzino and my friend ordered the beef cheek. Everything was flavorful, tender, and delicious! I would definitely come back to try some of the other things on their menu. read more

One of the most Iconic locations in all of LA paired with a Italian meal? Say less. Settecento is located right in front of the Los Angeles Public Library and what location it is! Ambiance: Nestled in their own little part of 5th street, Settecento boasts its own patio area both in the front facing the street and to the side of the restaurant closer to the steps that lead to the library. They have overhanging lights for evening dining and table lamps for nice yet casual vibe. The highlight for me, was the interior seating and bar area. The books lining the columns along with the hanging string and wind instruments make the space feel so at home in front of a library. You can also peer into the kitchen as they have a window displaying the process. Food: Here is what I ordered: - Calamari e Gamberi Fritti I know, I know, basic. But I love ordering this to test a restaurant's frier. This was a test and they passed with flying colors. The seafood wasn't chewy at all, the crust was light and flaky, paired with a lemon and marinera sauce, it was a perfect start to our meal. *side note - It was placed on a board, not a bad choice, but I found that the crumbs were starting to get on the table. So be careful none of it falls off! 8.5/10 - Gnocchi al Ragu alla Napoletana The main for me was so so so good! Perfectly cooked pasta and it came out piping hot! The ragu was indeed the star and the pork, beef complemented so well! *side note- I am not kidding when I say it came out hot! On my initial bite, I felt like it slightly singed my mouth. I let it sit for a bit and it was perfect! 8/10 - Tartufo Pizza Ok, this was the star in my mind. I love me some garlic and truffle and this didn't disappoint! The underside was crispy and the top was chewy and the flavor of the truffle, garlic, and freshness of the mushrooms was divine! Would highly recommend! *side note- This feed my friend and I, however, one pizza can feed 3 people. You can always just order it to go for later! 9/10 Overall our experience was amazing! Our reservation was at 7pm but they were able to accommodate us earlier. Sitting on the patio at that time was amazing as we were able to catch the sunset and enjoy the majesty of the LA skyline. My friend and I both work in the downtown area and wanted to get together for drinks, catch up, and just hang out. Since we live pretty far from each other, I searched for a good midpoint location, and this restaurant came up. I remembered the location from before, although I believe it used to be something else. I have to say, it was a great find! The restaurant was easy to get to, and the parking couldn't be more convenient. You can park right underneath at the Central Library parking garage. It really doesn't get much better than that, especially in Downtown LA, where finding easy parking can sometimes be a challenge! The restaurant itself is beautiful. When you walk in, you're surrounded by glass and a very modern design. One thing to keep in mind is that the indoor tables and chairs are fairly close together. If you prefer a little more space, I would recommend sitting outside, weather permitting. The outdoor patio is huge and seems to be where most of the seating is located. I definitely recommend making a reservation. The atmosphere is young, lively, and vibrant. It's loud, but not annoyingly loud--it just has a fun energy. Our servers, Diego and JC, were fantastic! They provided great service, were honest about the menu, and gave us some excellent recommendations. We went with their suggestions, and they did not disappoint. They have both a great happy hour menu and a full dinner menu. We decided to stick with happy hour this time. I highly recommend the bruschetta trio and the cantaloupe martini. I absolutely love the bar area at Settecento! The space is gorgeous and fun. The bar opens up to their enormous patio seating area and has a high-rise, glass ceiling with violins and trumpets hanging overhead. The walls surrounding the bar are lined with books, which honestly makes this place a little magical. It's such a fun and beautiful setting! They also host weddings and private events, which makes perfect sense given the location. Settecento is nestled within Maguire Gardens and right next to the Central Library, so you really feel like you're tucked away from the middle of Downtown LA. I've been here a couple of times now for both lunch and happy hour, and I ALWAYS have to get a pizza. I absolutely love their fluffy, airy pizza dough! I've tried the Tartufo, which comes with mozzarella, mushrooms, roasted garlic, truffle oil, Parmesan crumble topped with fresh truffle. There's probably a reason this pizza appears on practically every one of their menus--brunch, lunch, happy hour, and dinner. You also can't go wrong with their classic Margherita, but my favorite so far has to be the Vesuvio. It comes with smoked provola, mozzarella, roasted peppers, confit tomatoes, burrata, and basil. I absolutely LOVE this pizza. You get an entire ball of burrata that is so rich and creamy, and the roasted peppers and smoky provola add so much flavor. The confit tomatoes bring just the right amount of acidity to cut through all that richness. So good! Their happy hour is also such a great deal and runs daily from 2:00-6:00 p.m. I've tried quite a few things from the menu, including the Bruschetta Trio, Napoletano Sliders, Patatine Fritte, and Polenta Fritta. The Bruschetta Trio comes with three different toppings: caponata & smoked provolone, tomato & basil, and salmon & sour cream. It's light, savory, and delicious. The Napoletano Sliders come with Wagyu beef, fried eggplant, smoked provola, and spicy mayo. The Patatine Fritte are french fries topped with pecorino, and they're always solid! I love the seasoning, and the fries come out perfectly crispy. The Polenta Fritta is fried polenta served with a pecorino cream fondue and is another great snack to share. For the price and quality, I'm a huge fan of their happy hour menu. It's such a fun way to try several different dishes without committing to a full dinner. Service has also been consistently wonderful every time I've visited. Everyone is friendly, attentive, and professional. So glad I chose to make reservations to dine at Settecento. Made reservation on Saturday for 6 before I saw their happy hour ends at 6 so dialed it back to 5 to bring in 2 friends for their birthdays who thought we were coming in to celebrate something else :) We basically ordered everything off the happy hour menu. I got the okura old fashioned because that's what they're known for, and wanted to see how this differs from a regular old fashioned. Was smooth but could have been a tad stronger. All in all glad we cake here instead of a pretentious spot with a long wait. This place was great, chill vibes walking distance from hotel and is enjoyed by locals. I took my daughter here for her 22nd birthday and it was less than celebratory as a result. But, first, the positives. It's situated in a gorgeous LA location: the heart of Downtown LA, adjacent to its Pearl: the LA Public Library. Once you park underground (only $6, which is a steal for DTLA) you meander through its gem of a park to get to the restaurant. One wishes the water features were on, but it's still grand. The restaurant interior is finely appointed. Sculptures of books, brass, oak - the kind of place you drive past, see the pretty umbrellas, and you wonder: is the food good, the service? Well... This is where it gets uncomfortable, literally. I had taken the time to make lunch reservations, but instead of the hostess selecting the nicest table for us, she points us to two that had their issues, due to the sun or the slope or the aesthetics. I'm not normally that picky ... but I sat down twice before spying a lovely one on my own. The server came over and said it was her favorite. It may not be the hostess's fault, but it felt like unnecessary struggle. And maybe I'm being overly picky since it was a long drive here for me. The food. Absolutely nothing special. I made a mistake and thought the $25 lunch menu would apply. You get an app and entree. Nope. At 2 pm on a Saturday, it's a combination of brunch and happy hour. My daughter is a tyrant when it comes to her birthday and had the nerve to order truffle pizza. It wasn't good, particularly for almost $40 you'd expect flavor. It was not succulent. I had the bolognese and it was basic. Mine is better, and I'm no chef. Maybe it just wasn't a good day for Settecento. It was a good atmosphere, if you keep your expectations low. My boyfriend and I came for happy hour and got the Margherita pizza, Polpette (meatballs, not pictured), and the pepata di cozze (mussels). We also got two glasses of wine, a beer and an IPA. Food was pretty good, nothing insane that really stood out to me but it was definitely a solid meal. Ambiance is incredible, I drove by this spot once a couple weeks ago and immediately made plans to go the following week. Very pretty patio and a very fun bar design. Great vibe for a date night or special occasion I do think service could have been a teeny bit better. I had plans to head to Cal Plaza, so we decided to make reservations and grab something to eat. First, let me say that this place is really nice. The atmosphere is welcoming, comfortable, and just has a great vibe. Everyone who worked there was friendly, down to earth, and genuinely pleasant. I always appreciate servers who are, as I like to put it, just really cool. As for the food, we ordered a salad and a Margherita pizza, and I have to say, both were excellent. The salad was fresh and flavorful, and the dressing made it really stand out. The Margherita pizza was absolutely delicious, and it paired perfectly with a couple of drinks. We really enjoyed ourselves. The outdoor dining area is especially cool. For me, it was a little surreal because I worked in downtown for many years and passed this location almost every day. I remember when it was a completely different restaurant, so sitting there brought back a lot of memories. Whoever came up with the idea for the current concept did an outstanding job. The whole place just feels inviting and relaxed. Our group of seven enjoyed a relaxing meal outside, sharing several pizzas while each ordering our own entrée. I went with the Caprese focaccia sandwich since I wanted something lighter that day. It came with a side of crispy fries that paired with the sandwich. My husband ordered the Bolognese and said it was flavorful. For the table, we shared three pizzas: the Funghi, the Truffle Tartufo, and the Carbonara. I expected the truffle pizza to be my favorite, but surprisingly, the Carbonara won me over. The combination of eggs, cheese, and guanciale was delicious. While we were sitting on the patio, I personally saw and killed THREE cockroaches near our table. I understand that outdoor dining can come with occasional bugs, but seeing three cockroaches during one meal was extremely concerning and made it difficult to enjoy the rest of our dinner. For a restaurant with such wonderful food and a beautiful setting, I really hope management takes this seriously and has the patio area professionally treated and inspected. A friend made a last minute reservation for here and it was a worthy choice. Service was swift from seating to getting served our dinner. Our table was outside perched on a grassy knoll with a view of the downtown city scape....it set the tone for a beautiful ambiance although our large table was positioned at a slant which made our family style meals awkward to reach. Our server was particularly helpful in our decision to get the steak to share. It was delicious and cooked perfectly. It was definitely a highlight to our meal that will likely encourage us to return. We really enjoyed the experience here but be aware that most of their dining tables for parties greater than 2 are outdoors. (The smaller tables are in the bar area inside.) Stoped by with family for a late afternoon lunch after my niece's graduation. It was 2pm so we had the option of the pre-fix lunch menu or the happy hour menu which makes for better options for those who don't want a full meal (app and main). There were definitely highs and lows here. Pro: setting/scenery, service, pizza, caprese salad, focaccia and parking ($6 with validation) in the underground parking facility. It's a beautiful restaurant with lots of greenery in the middle of downtown. Greg was an awesome server and their bread based dishes were amazing. Pizza was by far the favorite across our group. Needs improvement: soup to the day was cream of mushroom. Lacked flavor and depth. Tasted a little flat. Bolognese and vongole had the same profile, lacking flavor and depth. The table felt the same way with some of the other dishes and surmised maybe this was on purpose to accommodate the general public and broader tastes of visitors and travelers that frequent downtown. Shredded parm and chili flakes helped a bit. Good thing we got full on bread and the pizzas we ordered for the table :) All in all we agreed it was a nice experience and would return, but will stick with the dishes we enjoyed. Celebrating Mother's Day here. We had dinner reservation (highly recommend). Undergroung paid parking is available, otherwise there is street parking. I love the ambiance the minute I entered the restaurant. It is very aesthetic, spacious, and clean. We sat outside and had a great view of the Bonaventure Building. So the restrooms have single private stalls, but the actual sink to wash your hands is open for both sexes. Upon leaving before 8 PM, it got really busy. Food is really good. My pizza had a wonderful textured crust, and held stable when picked up. My wife and our niece loved their food as well. Our main gripe was service. We were walk ins and were told there was a table but that there was a max time of 90 min. We said no problem as we had a concert to go to. After being seated, the two waitresses walked around the patio for quite some time and then we watched as they visibly noticed us and realized neither had attended. Our server came over and apologized, but her attentiveness was really lackluster. We ended up leaving after getting validated and still had to pay $6 to park below because we were seated for a total time of just over 2 hours. Maybe this is a one off, and we'd consider giving it another shot for the food, but yeesh. One of the memorable (and not in a good way) service experiences. read more

Its simple: $25 pre-fixe lunch menu. I have been scouring high and low for lunch pre-fixes and I am so happy that I came across Settecento. To put it easily, you pick an appetizer and an entree (between pizza and pasta. If you want their premium items (with truffle) it's an extra $10 or so. The ambiance was so peaceful, which makes it a bit of an odd location to be in the middle of the FIDI in Los Angeles. I mean it makes sense because all the worker bees go there for lunch, but I could see them having a second location somewhere more scenic where people would still flock to. The pasta was house made and springy and with the clams and white wine sauce, it was a solid dish. But it is a smaller portion. If you really want to get a bang for your buck, I would go with the pizza, its a full 10ish inches. read more

We were staying at the Westin Bonaventure hotel across the street and stumbled across Settecento when we went to the library. Very aesthetic, cute outdoor seating and book decor inside. It was sort-of hard to find the entrance. We walked around the exterior (there's a lot of outdoor seating), completing maybe 200 degrees until we found how to get in. Once we did, things went smoothly! They have a nice happy hour that goes from 2-6pm everyday! We enjoyed fries and the diavolo pizza. I really enjoyed my Watermelon martini--unique and strong. Service was fine. Would be back if in the area! read more
