Went for a work happy hour. Great food and better service. T is the man!!! He made the experience full

Attended the Night at the Library birthday celebration at the L.A. library and saw Settecento steps away from the entrance. We made a reservation, while inside the event for 8:30 pm. The hostess at the stand that night was all over the place and people were complaining asking where she went and no one knew, but we all noticed once a line began to build, she would disappear. I would recommend making a reservation just so you have a solid place in line and so you're at least ready to be seated. Angel our server was fun! We loved his energy, it wasn't over the top and it was very mellow, but also he was on top of everything and checked in with us and gave us great suggestions for drinks, appetizers, entrees. I will say, this place looks fancy and expensive and also a dream. The outdoor seating is like you're eating in a countryside in Europe and not in Downtown Los Angeles. We sat outside and our table featured a sofa as one of the seating options. We had the best girl dinner and were able to catch up over drinks and food and Candlelight and I didn't want to leave. I had the pizza, my sister had the filet mignon and one of us had the pasta . The calimari was good as the starter and they also had house bread which was so good. The Settecento pizza was my favorite and their pizzas are delicious, light, airy, full of flavor. My sister said her filet was ok but the mushroom sauce was delicious. For dessert, I believe we ordered the Tortino and the Tiramisu and both were great but the Tortino was a little better. I ordered the Toki Pona to drink and couldn't finish it but it was very good. Definitely recommend eating here to everyone. It's great food, ambiance and our server Angel took great care of us. read more

This is a great place to come by after work and loll about. There is a happy hour that goes until 6 with well-priced drinks and good pizzas (slightly less well-priced). The grounds are expansive, and the happy hour extends beyond the immediate bar and into the large "lawn", and there are umbrellas and an overall relaxed, social atmosphere. However, it's not a good place for strong drinks or good service. I have been there three times so far: once alone, once with a friend, and then lastly with a group totaling 5. the first two times i was at the bar, and the last time was on the lawn, and there was a light, picnic-in-the-park atmosphere. However, possibly due to the many people, the service is not very fast, so it is difficult to place more than one order for drinks or food within about a 40 minute period. Starting at about a quarter until 6, we started anxiously peering about, looking for our waiter, or any waiter, but all had mysteriously disappeared, and finally at about 5:55pm, one member of our party sprinted out to the bar to make one more order before 6, and then came back, saying that he had started ordering us a round before meeting our waiter who had said that he had some large groups to attend to but had taken our order. The happy hour drinks are weak, with almost nonexistent amounts of alcohol. Although the prices seem cheap at $10 vs their relative $18 or so, you are only getting half of the alcohol, so it's not a good "deal" after all. Also most of the drinks on the happy hour menu are infused with jalapeno or some other hot pepper, so if you can't handle spice, you only have a couple drinks to choose from. We also ordered some beers, and my friend ordered one that came in a can and the waiter hastily poured the drink into the glass in such a way that the foam took up about half of the glass and we all looked at it, surprised, as it was a combination of poured incorrectly, and/or stored too warmly, and when we pointed it out, he admitted that yes, he had poured it too quickly and that was his mistake, and did he want for him to get another one? and while we hesitated, he left, and then we grumbled amongst ourselves, that if he was aware that he had made an error, it would have been best for him to take it upon himself to correct the error instead of acknowledging it, and then giving us a small of window of opportunity to call him out on it. After increasing frustrations trying to get service, even after staying post-happy hour and order regular-priced drinks, we decided to leave, and by the time our waiter got to us, we were all palpably annoyed, he, most of all. As we sat for a few seconds getting out our credit cards and half-joking that one guy would take the entire bill, our waiter practically shoved the reader to us, and turned his head away, tapping his foot, in the way when you're so angry/upset at someone, you can't make eye contact, and he just stood, fuming, looking away. I, as an asian female, immediately felt apologetic and tried to rush everyone along, but the guy at our table called out to him and said something like, "are you having a bad day?" and the waiter said no and then my friend said, "oh well it looks like it, with your sour face", and the waiter said that he had a lot of tables waiting on him, and then my friend said something like, well that's no reason to treat us this way, and that kind of thing. We ended up leaving feeling kind of upset and resolved not to come ever again, which was such a shame, because it's very close to our office, and would have been a good place to have office parties, but now won't be. read more

Food was overpriced, under seasoned, and service was terrible. The place was 1/4 full with multiple waiters, but it seemed like a mission to get our waiters attention anytime we needed anything. Our waiter also forgot our requests multiple times, and it even took him 30 minutes to even bring out our check and get us out water. The ambiance itself wasn't bad, but that just makes this place feel much more of a photo op than it is a restaurant. read more

We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and made reservations in advance for the beautiful outdoor patio so our pups could join us. Our group of seven enjoyed a relaxing meal outside, sharing several pizzas while each ordering our own entrée. I went with the Caprese focaccia sandwich since I wanted something lighter that day. It came with a side of crispy fries that paired with the sandwich. My husband ordered the Bolognese and said it was flavorful. For the table, we shared three pizzas: the Funghi, the Truffle Tartufo, and the Carbonara. I expected the truffle pizza to be my favorite, but surprisingly, the Carbonara won me over. The combination of eggs, cheese, and guanciale was delicious. To celebrate our friend's birthday, the restaurant brought out an ice cream dessert topped with a mini sparkler candle, which added a festive touch. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and took great care of our group throughout the meal. Between the great food, welcoming atmosphere, and dog-friendly patio, we all had a wonderful time and would happily return. read more

Right next to the central library in downtown LA. The restaurant has a great vibe and was buzzing with activity. It was very lively with large French doors open between the indoor and outdoor seating. The service was very attentive and fast. However our table for three was very small for our party of 3 and I'm not sure how 4 people would have eaten dinner at such a small table. Our server was nice but greeted us with and odd greeting about how nice we all smelled. Apparently we were a "great smelling table". The food was good. We shared a the mushroom pizza and the charcuterie board. The board was just ok but the pizza was good. I had the papardelli pasta with the lamb ragu which was very savory and delicious. read more

A friend made a last minute reservation for here and it was a worthy choice. Service was swift from seating to getting served our dinner. Our table was outside perched on a grassy knoll with a view of the downtown city scape....it set the tone for a beautiful ambiance although our large table was positioned at a slant which made our family style meals awkward to reach. Our server was particularly helpful in our decision to get the steak to share. It was delicious and cooked perfectly. It was definitely a highlight to our meal that will likely encourage us to return. We really enjoyed the experience here but be aware that most of their dining tables for parties greater than 2 are outdoors. (The smaller tables are in the bar area inside.) So you might want to consider the weather first before you dine here. read more

Stoped by with family for a late afternoon lunch after my niece's graduation. It was 2pm so we had the option of the pre-fix lunch menu or the happy hour menu which makes for better options for those who don't want a full meal (app and main). There were definitely highs and lows here. Pro: setting/scenery, service, pizza, caprese salad, focaccia and parking ($6 with validation) in the underground parking facility. It's a beautiful restaurant with lots of greenery in the middle of downtown. Greg was an awesome server and their bread based dishes were amazing. Pizza was by far the favorite across our group. Needs improvement: soup to the day was cream of mushroom. Lacked flavor and depth. Tasted a little flat. Bolognese and vongole had the same profile, lacking flavor and depth. The table felt the same way with some of the other dishes and surmised maybe this was on purpose to accommodate the general public and broader tastes of visitors and travelers that frequent downtown. Shredded parm and chili flakes helped a bit. Good thing we got full on bread and the pizzas we ordered for the table :) All in all we agreed it was a nice experience and would return, but will stick with the dishes we enjoyed. Celebrating Mother's Day here. We had dinner reservation (highly recommend). Undergroung paid parking is available, otherwise there is street parking. I love the ambiance the minute I entered the restaurant. It is very aesthetic, spacious, and clean. We sat outside and had a great view of the Bonaventure Building. The outside has lots of heat lamps, which was perfect for the cold evening. Our pastas were very delicious. It was perfectly portioned for one person. They were nicely flavored and had plenty of protein (shrimp/clams). After the sunset, the outdoor lighting added to the ambiance. read more

Sent my friend a list of downtown restaurants to celebrate her birthday, and she chose this location. Our group of 8 was seated on the outdoor patio, which was charming. Our server was lovely. She handled my friend's gluten-free requests with care and made sure our whole table (which included our kidos) felt taken care of. There isn't a dedicated kids menu, but the staff was flexible. The drinks were excellent across the board.. The food was solid and everyone enjoyed what they ordered, but it felt a bit underwhelming given the price point. Came for brunch on a Saturday. Super easy to make a reservation and plenty of options available. My party and I arrived a bit late but they did not mind at all. Got seated outside and was offered water as we waited for the last two people to arrive. We got the bottomless mimosas option and ordered 2 pizzas and 4 pastas for a group of 6. Tried their Margherita and fungi pizzas, both were good. Loved the crust, Neapolitan style. We tried all of their pastas except for the ravioli to share. My favorites were the penne and the carbonara. They were very accommodating and offered a high chair for the baby. Dominique took care of us and he was really attentive and friendly throughout our entire experience. He made sure our mimosas carafe was refilled and checked in on us the perfect amount of times and let us enjoy our meal. Huge shoutout to him! Its simple: $25 pre-fixe lunch menu. I have been scouring high and low for lunch pre-fixes and I am so happy that I came across Settecento. To put it easily, you pick an appetizer and an entree (between pizza and pasta. If you want their premium items (with truffle) it's an extra $10 or so. The ambiance was so peaceful, which makes it a bit of an odd location to be in the middle of the FIDI in Los Angeles. I mean it makes sense because all the worker bees go there for lunch, but I could see them having a second location somewhere more scenic where people would still flock to. The pasta was house made and springy and with the clams and white wine sauce, it was a solid dish. But it is a smaller portion. If you really want to get a bang for your buck, I would go with the pizza, its a full 10ish inches. read more

Came here with a colleague after work at 4 PM. Definitely felt like old people going to dinner at 4 PM lol, but we were not the only ones there since they have a happy hour menu. Definitely would recommend going for happy hour, since it's a limited menu, and they still have pretty incredible plates. That said, my favorite dish of the night was the gnocchi, which was not on the happy hour menu, but on the dinner menu. We got the truffle pizza---I forget the name of it. It was pretty good, but not the best when I've had. I think it could've been a little bit more bold with the flavor. I did ask for a side of truffle oil, which they kindly obliged. I do wish they had more interesting salads and flavor combinations. We got the fried polenta, and it was not what I was expecting. It was pretty dry, and the reason why that plate probably works is because of the cheese sauce that comes with it. Honestly, I was not impressed with that one. We got the bruschetta as well, but I was not too impressed with those flavors either. All in all, I probably would stick with the pastas. Our server was really kind and generous with this time and recommendations (and a parent of a new one coming along + a toddler!) The ambience is pretty spectacular with the books, lining the columns and the musical instruments hanging from the ceilings. In terms of parking, park at the library parking and get it validated I would consider returning if it was convenient for the other parties involved, but strictly for the food, I would try something else. read more

We were staying at the Westin Bonaventure hotel across the street and stumbled across Settecento when we went to the library. Very aesthetic, cute outdoor seating and book decor inside. It was sort-of hard to find the entrance. We walked around the exterior (there's a lot of outdoor seating), completing maybe 200 degrees until we found how to get in. Once we did, things went smoothly! They have a nice happy hour that goes from 2-6pm everyday! We enjoyed fries and the diavolo pizza. I really enjoyed my Watermelon martini--unique and strong. Located in downtown LA, CA. You can park in the Public Library and if you eat at Settecento, the $40 parking will be validated to cost only $11 or so. I parked for 2 hours or less. It's a great place for a business lunch, there is more outdoor seating than indoors. Bringing nature and greenery to your lunch time. Everything was fantastic! Service was also great. Food selections are unique, the meatballs as a happy hour appetizer was delicious! The drink selection for happy hour is nice. Again not a huge selection but unique drinks on the menu. Service is amazing! Super friendly and attentive staff! The Tagliere de Salumi e Formaggi is a lot of food and delicious! Best appetizer not on the happy hour menu! Perfect for sharing! The meatballs are on the happy hour appetizer menu and they are the best available on that menu. There's quite a lot going on here, between the decor, seating options, large menu and people coming and going all around you. I happened to come in for happy hour and focused on the small bites menu. Everything we tried was good, perhaps not something I'd rush back for, but decent for the price and portion. Lots of creativity reflected on the menu. Personally, I wasn't keen on the Lobster Buratta or Sliders. I did like the Bruschetta Trio and Polenta, though. The meatballs were okay. Service wasn't as attentive as we'd like, though we received our items in a reasonable amount of time. We did have to flag down servers on a few occasions for silverware, drink refills, and our bill. This restaurant is indoors and outdoors, just steps away from the library. It can get quite warm when the sun is out, but pretty at night with all of the lights. Parking in the nearby lot can be a bit pricey, though it beats street parking by a landslide. read more

Finally made it to 700. No, not reviews - hit that mark a long time ago. I mean Settecento. Been meaning to for a while because I'd see it driving in the area heading towards the freeway to get home. And now, it's done. Parking. Entered on Flower. $10. Validation at the front entrance with the host/hostess. Had reservations but arrived early to get in on the Happy Hour at the bar. Pretty cool decor. Musical instruments suspended (see pic) and the columns designed to look like bookshelves. Lots of natural light. Glass roof and with lots of windows and a garage door concept. Btw, Happy Hour ends at 6 and does extend beyond the bar. Seated for dinner out in the garden. Out on the artificial grass - open too see and hear all. Not very busy but steady - and service was excellent. I mention it because seating was outdoors, pretty much the furthest away from the physical establishment and kitchen. He was attentive. Friendly. Nice. Not just small talk but genuine conversation. And remember - mentioned it already - seated outdoors away from everything. Food was good. Ordered a House Salad as Caesar Salad isn't on the menu. Bread Basket a Filet. Rare. And was served as requested. See pics. The salad was nicely prepared but I wanted Caesar, not Balsamic but I still polished it off. And all the bread. Actually and dessert. Food didn't knock my socks off but good enough that there was zero scraps for to take to go. It was a good experience. Seems like a cool date spot. Settecento is a wonderful addition to the downtown area and the popularity only proves it. We arrived early for a 7:15 reservation but opted for the bar because seating was plentiful. The bartender recommended a great cocktail (Toki Pona - whiskey, kumquat juice, passionfruit syrup, cranberry juice, cinnamon pineapple syrup, abanero bitters, rosemary) - great drink with a little kick. The appetizer was Calamari e Gamberi Fritti, entree was the pasta Calabria (mozzarella, datterino tomato cream, caramelized onion, 'nduja) and Insalata del Settecento. All were top notch and reminded me of our time in Rome. Great food and service. Reservations are recommended but if you're in the neighborhood and are feeling impulsive try for the bar. read more

super friendly staff and the food was amazing. we came here to celebrate my mom and grandma for mothers day and it was fabulous. food was super delicious, quality was similar to the food i've had in Italy. the patio was super cute and our dog enjoyed it too. however another lady sitting nearby (not staff) called our dog obnoxious because he would bark from time to time due to the birds. this left a sour taste in our mouth. The restaurant is dog friendly for the patio seating, if you are bothered you should ask to switch your seat, not directly bother other patrons ESPECIALLY to make a rude remark. No one else around seemed to mind our dog either. (what a total KAREN!) This woman was extremely miserable making side comments knowing we could hear her, so instead of turning and saying something we left earlier than we would've liked to. We wanted to get dessert, however this interaction made us lose our appetite. I know I'm ranting about something outside of the control of this restaurant and their staff hence why I still rate the place a 5 star. I do plan on coming back again back to the good things since I want to leave this review on a good note. I definitely recommend getting the pizzas theyre super fresh and yummmyyyyy in my tummy. We got the Margherita pizza. very light and delicious. Mom and I got truffle pasta, delicious. Im a huge fan of butter in my noodles so this was a no brainer to get. Grandma got the branzino--she loved it a lot (so did the pup since he tried a bit of it too but shhh dont tell) The restaurant itself is situated in a nice little area, they have parking at the library ~200 feet down. super picturesque. I cant stress enough how nice all the staff was. they were all super accommodating and friendly. I wish I caught the name of our server. but she was amazing (she had curly hair bangs and had blonde tips super pretty too). she always checked in on us and was very personable. This was my second time dining in downtown Los Angeles. It's been 30 years since I last stayed downtown. We booked the Hotel Per La and found Settecento within walking distance of our hotel on a Saturday night. I love Italian food. It has such a rich heritage and such marvelous creativity in flavor, texture, and presentation. However, lots of restaurants claim to serve authentic Italian and that's a difficult thing to nail down - as it depends on the region, the diner's past experience, and a really strong understanding of the cuisine. I believe Settecento delivers on the promise of authentic, flavorful, and beautiful Italian food! We were seated, by request, in their gorgeous garden area, with comfortable seating, soft lighting, and wonderful Italian music. A very Italian feel. Our server, Dalton, was attentive, friendly, and well versed in the menu. His recommendations were spot on all night. We began our night with a bottle of 2021 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon for $143, a fair price point for the wine. We started with an order of Polpo alla Luciana - an octopus dish in a rich and bright marinara sauce. Delicious with crusty white bread. For our entrees we chose the Salmone in Crosta di Mandorle - an almond crusted salmon with escabeche zucchini and a bright green zucchini sauce. It was spectacular! On our server Dalton's recommendation, I went with the Pappardelle al Ragu d'Agnello - a marvelous, rich and flavorful slow cooked lamb, garlic, marinara sauce with parmigiano, lamb jus, and rosemary. I confident in saying this was one of the best Italian dishes I've ever tasted! That's extremely high praise from a guy who has eaten Italian in many places. This was the proof to me that Settecento does serious Italian. We ended the night with an inventive Dolci called Baba Napoletano - a rum soaked sponge cake served with vanilla ice cream. Yesterday, I went to Settecento for brunch with my best friend who was visiting from San Francisco. I had previously been here for a family brunch on Sunday, December 28th, and at that time, everything was great--the atmosphere was lovely, and all the food was delicious. I told my friend about that experience, and she wanted to try the place, so we decided to go together. Because her schedule kept changing, I asked her to make the reservation herself, and she did. However, while my experience on December 28th was completely satisfying, there were several issues during our visit yesterday. We ordered the Carbonara, Insalata del Settecento, and an Americano. Unfortunately, the Carbonara was by far the worst I've ever had. The noodles were so undercooked and overly salty that it was inedible. I took one bite and had to put my fork down. My friend also commented that she had never had a Carbonara this bad. We explained the issue to our waitress and asked if it could be cooked a bit more. However, my friend ultimately felt she couldn't eat it at all and asked if we could switch to another dish. The waitress said she would ask the chef and took the plate away. After a while, she replaced it with Egg Benedicts, which we specifically requested because I had tried it during my December 28th visit and knew it was a safe choice. The salad was also disappointing. It felt like it was mostly just cabbage with dressing poured on top, lacking balance or care. Another issue occurred when we first arrived. My friend checked in with her name for the reservation, and we were seated at an outdoor table. There was a very strong smell of marijuana around our table, so we politely asked if we could move to a different table. The male host told us that the other area was fully booked and responded by saying that marijuana is legal in California, implying there was no issue. That response was honestly quite frustrating. Thankfully, after some time, the smell faded, and we were able to stay. We later moved once more to a shaded table with an umbrella to avoid the direct sunlight. One more issue: the restaurant has four restroom stalls, but only two had toilet seat covers. The other two had none at all. Saturday brunch time is clearly a very busy time -- the restaurant was completely packed when we were leaving-- and having no toilet seat covers available during peak brunch hours made it feel like maintenance was not being properly managed. This was also disappointing. Of course, no place is perfect. However, we were genuinely disappointed by the quality of the Carbonara and the salad, the lack of friendliness from the male host who handled the seating, and the restroom maintenance issues. However, the restaurant is within walking distance for me, and the overall atmosphere is nice, so I may return occasionally. I just hope these issues are addressed in the future. Lastly, I want to add that our waitress yesterday (I unfortunately didn't catch her name) was extremely kind and professional. One small thing to note: when we asked for the check, the Carbonara--which we had returned after one bite--was still on the bill. When we pointed it out, she immediately apologized and brought us a corrected bill. read more

I got the beef cheeks as my main, and it was super tender and went well with the carrots. Only thing I would've enjoyed is a little green veggie with it. Settecento is an absolutley lovely place, right next to the public library. The interior is bright and airy, and makes you feel instantly on vacation! The menu has a good range of items and price points that make it great for a group- fun appetizers, pasta, pizza, and larger format dishes for all appetites. I got the polenta bites with the cheesy dipping sauce - crunchy, creamy, and a perfect snack size. The pasta came with the shrimp already cut up, which is a fantastic attention to detail. No one wants their food sliding all over the place as you try to cut up shrimp so you're not trying to bite into whole ones in front of your guests! The burger was big and meaty. A bit dry, but the caramelized onions were a nice touch, and the tang of the truffle sauce was welcome. Fries were also crispy and well salted. The cocktails were refreshing, and the bartender was happy to make one that I REALLY wanted by subbing out guava for the passion fruit syrup they were out of. My server was amazingly nice and helpful, didn't try to push or upsell, and he packaged my leftovers well. My only critiques were that my food came out ALLLLLL at once, which is super awkward. It's not a Settecento thing- I've noticed lately that pacing has become an issue in many restaurants I go to, and I think it's a conversation we should be having. Also- when I came in, there was a person standing at the hostess stand, and I assumed I should tell them I was there for a reservation, and she was somewhat dismissive and acted like I'd asked a dumb question as she told me she wasn't the hostess and I should wait. The old Cafe Pinot spot, which I've always thought was such a good space. I'm so glad Settecento came in and is making good use of the space. There is some indoor seating near the bar, but this place is all about outdoor dining on the patio, under the trees and the downtown skyscrapers around you. Perfect on a balmy, cool night. They do have heaters, so don't worry too much about being chilly. We had a fairly large group of 11, and everyone had a really great time. Lots of good menu options to share, especially since we got there for the tail end of happy hour and were able to order a good number of appetizers off the happy hour menu. For dinner, we ended up getting an assortment of pastas, pizzas, risotto, and fish. The pizzas were all fantastic - all from a wood-fire oven, so they had a nice charred crust that still had a good chew to it. The fish was cooked perfectly, and it was mild yet flavorful. The tiramisu is not the super wet, soggy kind, so I actually prefer it. It's a decent portion, so it's good to share amongst 2-3 people. I really came into this restaurant with high expectations, having seen how highly it's rated on Yelp and raved about online, and I wanted to give a high rating but I just can't. Let's begin with what was amazing - the service and the ambiance. This is definitely a date night spot - the bottles, the books, it all just meshes together and works perfectly. Our server was also incredible, checking on our table multiple times. However, the food itself is where things started to go downhill. Ive heard you're supposed to cook pasta in salty water but Jesus Christ, it was as if the chef decided to cook salty water in pasta. My coworker said that her pasta was extremely salty as well, and she didn't get the same dish as me. Perhaps we came on an off day, and they made a batch of extremely super salty pasta noodles, but I would have hoped that their quality control would have caught that before it left the kitchen. All in all, I won't be returning for food. Maybe for a date night where we just come to get drinks- but we'll definitely go to Macherroni Republic or elsewhere for pasta. read more

The ambiance at Settecento in Downtown Los Angeles was warm and inviting, making for a pleasant dining experience. Our server, JC, was attentive, friendly, and provided excellent service throughout the evening. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to my expectations. I ordered the Mushroom soup and the Spaghetti alla Chitarra Bolognese. The soup lacked the rich, earthy depth of flavor I was hoping for, and the Bolognese was simply average and didn't stand out in any way. We visited on a Saturday night. Got seated outside. Plenty of heating lamps to keep us warm on a January night. The calamari was good. There were a couple pieces of shrimp in there which was a nice surprise. The fresh bread was very good once they brought out the olive oil and balsamic. The Diavola pizza was delicious. Tasted like pizza from Italy. Definitely recommend you try it. I thought the tiramisu would be the best until I tried the lava cake. The lava cake was delicious. Wine selection by the glass was pretty good. Nice reds from Piedmont. Definitely recommend. The parking situation is par for Downtown LA. Not my favorite. But that's not on the business.
