    Jamón Ibérico
    Michael M.

I've been to many José Andrés restaurants over the years, and most have lived up to my expectations (small plates, high prices, good service). San Laurel fit the profile, but somehow I left unsatisfied. We started with the jamón Ibérico, which was an astonishingly small portion for $40. In retrospect, we should have spent the extra $10 for the pa amb tomàquet (bread with tomato) to make it more filling. The ham croquettes (also wildly overpriced for five), were OK, but not memorable. I've had much better for a third of the price. I scarcely remember the rest of the meal. The view from the terrace is awesome, as is the price of a martini. It comes in one those cute little coupe glasses that "nice" restaurants use these days. For $22 each. I would have had to spend $66 to feel anything. I'm glad I went, don't need to go back

A Michelin starred restaurant is highly regarded and by far San Laurel came very close. Our server was well versed in the evening's menu. We came on a Monday to celebrate an anniversary. It's the kind of venue where people would usually like to go for a special occasion. The food we had was amazing. Each dish was explained to us as they came. Cocktails were wonderful but the Mai Tai had too much ice and hardly any drink. Food portions were on the small side so that was a bit of a disappointment. The flan and cheesecake for dessert were heavenly! The restaurant was comfortable and elegant. Overall, the dining experience was memorable.

Came in for a work lunch and was mesmerized by the view and ambiance. Staff was very kind and attentive the entire hour. I opted for the smash burger and it was an absolute hit! I couldn't finish so I took it to go, would definitely come back to try their specialty dishes!

My wife, friend, and I had a great meal at this super-comfortable, beautifully designed restaurant. First, we started with cocktails. My friend had the Pisco Sour (Achelado Pisco, lime, sugar and egg whites) and I had the Bergeron's Mai Tai (Denizen's Merchant 8-year rum, lime, orgeat and dry curacao). While both drinks tasted great, there was way too much ice in my Mai Tai. It was verging on being an alcohol drenched snowcone. For appetizers, we shared the roasted eggplant (mole, honey miso, puffed wild rice, lemon, pea tendrils). It tasted great and was artistically plated but the portion size was quite small --- just 3 slices of eggplant. The other appetizer we shared were the oysters with lime, passion fruit and sesame. They not only tasted great but they looked like they had tiny surprised faces on them. For our mains, my friend had the rack of lamb, my wife the gambas (aji amarillo and garlic emulsion, red pepper and potatoes), and I had the Lubina (branzino) with Donostiarra sauce, smoked trout roe, fennel and fine herbs). All the mains were delicious, well prepared with very fresh ingredients: fish in my case, shrimp in my wife's case and tender lamb in my friend's case. However, the portion sizes were on the small size, especially my wife's gambas dish. Plus, there should have been toast served with her dish to soak up the sauce in the dish. For dessert, we shared two desserts: flan and the burnt Basque cheesecake. While both were great, the burnt Basque cheesecake was incredible. Our waiter was very friendly and had a nice, casual demeanor, which worked in my opinion. However, he served the cocktails at the same time as the appetizers when he should have waited a bit with the appetizers. While I gave a 5-star rating, it's more like a 4.5. Food tasted great and was truly fine dining quality, but portion sizes were small for the price; too much ice in my cocktail; and a little pause between the serving of the cocktails and the appetizers was needed.

Got to enjoy San Laurel a number of times during my brief staycation at The Conrad this week. I was incredibly excited to check out dinner service, as San Laurel has been on my list basically since it opened. Dinner was nice but breakfast honestly blew it away in terms of food and service. Dinner was nice, albeit a bit crowded on a Tuesday evening. The salt air margarita was fantastic with a salty, foamy top that added a little something extra to every sip. A very inventive cocktail from Chef José Andrés. The specialty Jamón croquetas were even better. Thinly sliced iberico ham on top of a perfectly melty, lightly fried cheese croquettes. Definitely my favorite thing that I ate during my three visits here. The gambas were good -- beautifully butterflied shrimp with small fingerling potatoes. Tasted good but was, in fact, just five shrimp and five individual small potatoes. More of a lunch portion than a dinner portion. I of course at it all, as well as a plate of chicken tenders and fries from room service shortly after. Breakfast portions more than made up for it. My first meal I had a wonderful bowl on congee and a side of the iberico ham alongside an iced americano. Absolutely delicious would definitely order this same thing again next time. For my second breakfast I had a plate of the olive oil pancakes and a side of bacon. The bacon was honestly my fault. I asked the waiter if the ham was exceptionally better than the bacon, since that's kind of their whole specialty, and he kind of hesitantly agreed that it was. Still I was feeling adventurous and tried the bacon anyway. It was good but definitely did not compete to that thin cured ham. The pancakes were also delightful with delicious butter, syrup, and a berry compote.

Located downtown at the Conrad. Across street from Disney Hall. Wonderful service! Here for brunch before a play. Very chic contemporary decor. Outdoor lovely patio. Very nice brunch menu with the most popular breakfast items. Eggs were good. Across the street from Music Center.

Absolutely loved my experience at San Laurel! Located inside the Conrad Hotel, this Michelin-starred restaurant truly delivers on every level. The view alone is worth it -- seeing the Walt Disney Concert Hall right from your table is such a uniquely LA experience. Dinner was especially memorable -- the seafood dishes were exceptional and full of flavor. Everything felt fresh, refined, and thoughtfully prepared. Breakfast was just as impressive. Enjoying the morning meal while looking out at the Disney Hall was honestly stunning. Whether you sit outside or inside, both offer great ambiance -- the outdoor seating is beautiful and relaxing, while the indoor space feels elegant and comfortable. Service was excellent throughout -- warm, attentive, and professional. This place exceeded my expectations, and I'll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend if you're looking for a memorable dining experience in LA!

Still a great choice for a meal before a show at the music center. With weather warming up, it's actually comfortable to sit on the patio with glorious views of Disney Hall. Service is always top notch from reception to servers. They excel at making guests comfortable even if unusual requests are made (our party had none, but we heard the table next to us questioning the ingredients of several dishes). We started with the always delicious eggplant, tried the peas for the first time, and went on to the gambas and lamb chops. It's so comforting to go back to a wonderful restaurant and find consistency with the ingredients and skill at every visit. Prices have give up slightly in the past year, but with the quality ingredients and professional service, this remains my go to for a meal before a show.

Absolutely an excellent little brunch spot located within the Conrad in DTLA. This place has an amazing selection of breakfast items and a beautiful outside terrace. The service is a bit slow but I'll totally be back to this place often...

Located in the Conrad but surprisingly chill and comfortable. Love the elevated yet relaxed energy. 10/10. The Food: Second visit and it still hits. Every dish was consistently above average. The Service: Shoutout to the staff--incredible service from start to finish. Verdict: Consistent, high-quality and a great atmosphere. Definitely a DTLA favorite.

Inside the Conrad hotel in DTLA, this restaurant is on the 10th floor. As mentioned by the waiter, it is a Jose Andres restaurant. He is one of the premier chefs in America, and quite possibly the world. Beautiful interior, the funny thing that stuck out is there were stems and leaves in a vase. Seems a bit strange to not have fresh flowers, especially for a restaurant of this caliber. Open face omelet with XO sauce was the star! I highly recommend this dish. We also had their version of a standard breakfast and it was outstanding. The Turkey sausage was delicious and tasted like it was made in house. Pair that with the rustic bread and it was phenomenal. The hotel recommended that we make reservations which was a good call since the restaurant was busy. If the stars align, I'd love to come back and eat here again!

We had a lovely experience dining at San Laurel while staying at the Conrad. The ambiance, service and food were all excellent. We came for an early dinner at opening and the views were beautiful. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. The atmosphere is classy but not stuffy, casual but with refined food. They were accommodating of our toddler and provided a kid's cup for their meal. Our favorite dish was the lamb that was beautifully cooked to perfection.

For the outdoor seating, dog is allowed?

Service animals only. Highly unlikely that emotional support animals would be permitted. Even if they did, confident the other patrons would not welcome.

Is there outside dining in the evening and if so, where would that be located?

I didn't sit outdoors but I saw it and it looks beautiful. Wraps around most of the restaurant.

Is the main menu only offered during dinner time or is it also offered during the morning open hours?

I've been going to them more and more, and The Lucky Tiki was one I definitely had to try out. First off, I have to praise 1933 group because I have loved every single bar they have revitalized and this one is no different. In keeping with their MO, The Lucky Tiki is a speakeasy with a vintage vibe. I won't give away how to get in but let's just say, it's near the front of Highland Park Bowl. My husband and I didn't have a reservation, but we were able to put our name in and got seated about an hour or so later. I was amazed as soon as I walked in the door! It's just floor to ceiling decorated with everything tiki. So many fun details and even interactive elements that turn on when a particular drink was ordered. That was probably my favorite part honestly. We ordered the Tiki Diablo, which is a large tiki drink with a flaming volcano. And yes it does have an interactive element. It was really good. Very fruity and strong, but not overly so. Service was excellent. Our waitress was on it and even waited to make sure my husband was back from the bathroom before lighting our drink on fire. We didn't try any food this time, but a lot of people were ordering the Hawaiian pizza. Do with that what you may. Will definitely be back ti try more drinks and food. A group of my friends and I have come here three different times, really wanting to like this place because the atmosphere is beautiful and lively. Unfortunately, each visit has been consistently disappointing due to the same bartender--a shorter male with visible tattoos and facial hair, who seems to regularly work one side of the bar. On all three occasions, we experienced being ignored while trying to order, even as other guests who arrived after us were served first. The first time, we were eventually told "you guys can wait" in a rude tone of voice while he continued taking other orders. The second time, we were never helped at all and had to move to another part of the bar, where a female bartender provided much better service. The third visit was the most concerning. When we tried to get his attention, he responded in a dismissive and rude tone, and as he walked away, we overheard him make an inappropriate comment about us under his breath calling us out of our name and we felt very disrespected so much so that we just left. We completely understand that weekends can get busy, but consistently dismissive and disrespectful service--especially across multiple visits--is not acceptable and we've also seen him be rude to other guests as well. Aside from this issue, the venue itself is great, which is why we gave it multiple chances. I really hope management can address this, as it impacts the overall appearance and experience of the establishment. Thank you.

We were able to get a seat on the coach and order drinks from the bar relatively quickly. Prices were pretty typical of LA ($18-25 a cocktail) but I would say I probably won't come back this late as it's in a shadier part of town. They have a bouncer and it was fine inside, but it's not a place where you can bar hop if that's what you're looking for as the area is seedy. Would be interested to try the food next time, but again, the safety and comfort of the light of day.

NOVEMBER 26.2025…read more I've been through many iterations of The Library Bar over the years... from small and cozy secret bar for those that work in the looming skyscrapers of Downtown LA to being some noisy urban hip hop affair that served godawful drinks (see my past review!), and on back to being a calm and casual neighborhood bar again. The interior never changes... dark... illuminated by candlelight... the bust of Shakespeare over the fireplace, the shelves of old books-- all of it remains intact. But this latest Library Bar seems to have finally dialed in what was always sorely missing in that it showcases a conscientious staff that all seem to know how to mix drinks while treating the customer well by leaving them be. On one night my date and I share a "Black Manhattan," basically a Manhattan with the generous addition of Averna, and it's terrific. On another night, I go for Happy Hour and a few pints of Guinness on draft that are surprisingly proper and go well with their excellent and, I'm told, homemade Hummus & Veggies Plate. The music at this current Library Bar is pretty much on point and is never so loud as to interfere with the conversations that patrons seem to come here for... something you should come here for too, and maybe at Happy Hour specifically if you're looking for a nice bump in your day and to spend an hour, well, happily.

We had two separate servers because one went home during the middle of our dinner and both were equally horrible. Not even exaggerating when I say we waited at least 15 minutes after we asked for the check and there were probably only 10 tables in the entire restaurant. And we had to call her back over to ask for a second time. SMH. The food although flavorful was so ridiculously priced it was not even funny. I got a "ribeye ". Was literally eight thin slices of steak, like 1" x 1" size for $42! No, I will not be coming back here for so many reasons. The view is great. Castaways is definitely not what it used to be in the way of quality but at least you get more and you get the view. But definitely not worth it going to this place. It was quite a frustrating evening. Also, if you do decide to go here, just bring a coat when it's a little bit cooler in the evenings cause it does get cold up here and getting the staff to manage the heaters correctly is a whole other frustration. Oh, and valet is your only option for parking up here. It's kind of crazy because a few years ago you could just go park in the lot or the garage that's available there but now they're charging you $11 and it's chaos. I will say that the view up here is great though so if you're willing to forgo all of that for a view for like a one time date or something like that, it might be worth it
