Overall: 4 stars Mixed reviews for this Michelin restaurant. I found portioning for the non-happy hour to be quite expensive and small compared to peers of similar conception and technique. The menu has a variety of innovative dishes that immediately catch my attention, and the restaurant is a very modern and intimate environment. Some dishes are hit or miss, but all of the concepts are more experimental yet still make sense. (Eggplant: C) - Miso eggplant is a classic pairing that works well here, but it almost seems like there was a prevailing honey sweetness that overpowers any of the saline forward miso. (Chicken Heart: A) - Quite tender with the depth not too intensified, which is crucial for the organs. The seasoning also brings levity to this skewer. (Pork Belly: D) - Unfortunately and ironically, it seems like the fat part of the belly was largely missing, and the pork became a bit dry and overcooked. I did find the sauce accompaniment powerfully uplifting and paired well with the pork. (Karaage: A) - Battered in squid ink, this blackened chicken is crisp and well seasoned with saline and spice. I think an aioli would be better suited for the subtleness of the black garlic, but could see the sourness of the ranch pairing well with chicken. (Bok Choy: F) - I'm not convinced dry grill is the best because bok choy is not necessarily the most hydrated leaf. Furthermore, halved bok choy required a lot more seasoning to flavor through the layers. (Bone Marrow: C) - Warm and inviting dish, with richly roasted marrow that pairs perfectly with the creamy aioli and chewy mochi bread. The portion is small for the price, but there is a lot of good technique going on. (Grilled Fuji: F) - The grill flavor and warmth do not come through in the apple as the texture remains hard. That said, the miso caramel pairs well. (Miso Yummy: B) - Fruit forward cocktail with inviting flavors easy on the palette. (Calcifer's Spark: A) Complex drink that follows the palette of the on the rocks family, but lightened by festive flavors of cacao, tiramisu, and berries. Food: E Presentation: +1 Price: -1 Atmosphere: +1 Service: E Menu: +2 Insta/Yelp/Beli/TikTok: @amei_eats

I've heard about this place from a few foodie friends and finally came to try it myself. I loved it! They have a very interesting menu with very creative fusion sushi and Yakitori (grilled chicken) or Kushiyaki (grilled skewers in general) items. Not knowing too much, we order their fixed priced EGGCELLENT set; It turned out to be a great feast! For $55 it is a great bargain as they give you a lot of food, all with good quality, great craftsmanship, and beautiful presentations. I highly recommend this for first time customers, or if you're just hungry and want a fair amount of food! See my picture for the items included in this prix fixe. Also love their location, it's in the beautiful plaza. We came around Christmas time and the lights were beautiful. The only thing is the parking structure! It is a spiral going up up up and can be challenging, if you're not used to this kind of parking structure. Oh, do not forget to get your parking ticket validated, it's gonna cost you a fortune if you don't. But it's very nice of them to offer validation to their customers.

It was my first time here for happy hour and I loved the ambiance of the place. It's spacious and gives off an elegant yet down to earth atmosphere. They were a little busy, but the staff were friendly and the waiters still did a great job checking in on us and making sure we had enough water. I ordered the "For Goodness Sake" cocktail, which was light and tasty. Would recommend! We also ordered the following: Tsukemono: nice fresh pickles. Overall nice to help add some freshness to your palate after fried or meat dishes. Squid ink karage: delicious and unique! I loved the twist on the traditional karage. My favorite out of all the dishes. Chicken heart yakitori: very flavorful and not an overwhelming "meaty" taste, which I usually don't like with chicken hearts. Pork belly yakitori: this was unfortunately what knocked it down a star. Though I liked the flavors added, the meat was tough overall like it had been cooked too long. I ordered 2 of these skewers and it was tough to finish. Avo tuna toast: after fried and meat dishes, this was a welcome freshness. I'd recommend this one too as one of my favorites. Soft shell crab "taco": I'm not a big fan of soft shell crab, but this was cooked well and had great flavors. Overall it was a nice time. I'd come here again especially to try more drinks and for the karage.

Loved our dinner at Hatch. Service was great- very attentive. When we could not decide which sake we wanted, they let us taste a couple. Then you get to choose your own glass - which is a fun little experience. Food was so delicious. Everything we tasted was phenomenal. Love that they have small plates so you can taste a variety of things. Definitely get the ahi tuna and the mushroom- with hot sauce. The vibe is fun. They have fun sayings on the employees shirts. Great place to go as a group, couple or solo.

I've been to Hatch at least four times, and the atmosphere has been consistently terrific. Located in a mall in the heart of DTLA, we got very lucky in regards to parking and found a free street parking spot immediately outside of Hatch - so that was a great way to kick off my most recent experience there. In terms of flavors, however, some items are far more flavorful than others. The most recent time I dined at Hatch, I ordered the prix fixe menu. Now, I usually don't prefer the prix fixe because I enjoy selecting my own dishes. But I felt like trying something new that evening. And true to my intuition, I think I would've enjoyed my experience more had I ordered a la carte. I wasn't quite full after the prix fixe experience, so I did order agedashi tofu and eel, which were both delicious - and honestly my favorite items at the end of the evening. Previous times I ordered cocktails at the bar, which were always phenomenal, but this time I didn't. Overall, a good experience and enjoyable for a date night.

We've been to HATCH twice now -- the first time for my boyfriend's birthday and the second time for Valentine's Day -- and both visits were absolutely wonderful. What we love most about this place is that the portions are thoughtfully sized, which allows you to try many different dishes in one sitting. Everything we ordered was beautifully presented and full of flavor. It's one of those menus where you genuinely want to taste almost everything. The service was also great -- attentive without being overwhelming. We even had the chance to meet the owners, two young brothers, and they were incredibly warm and welcoming. When I told them how much we loved their food, they surprised us with a special cocktail, which made the night even more memorable. HATCH has officially become one of our favorite spots for special occasions. We'll definitely be back.

We had dinner here the other night and it might just be my favorite meal of 2025. There is plenty of parking in the parking structure. The ultra-modern vibe of the restaurant tells you that you are in for a treat. We went with the tasting menu. It is $55 and it is their favorite items. It is a filling meal. We did start with a cocktail. They do have a full bar but we both felt like a cocktail. They had one on the menu and it was delicious. A non-alcoholic gin was used and it was nice and refreshing. The first course in the tasting menu was a miso corn soup. The miso seemed to be a darker version than what you normally get and the sweet grilled corn went perfectly with the saltiness of the miso soup. A wonderful way to begin the meal. Next was the tuna tataki handroll. The thick cut tuna with the tomato and shallot salsa and other flavors was a perfect move towards the next course. The miso beer spare rib was served with some housemate tsukemono. The ribs is marinated in Sapporo for hours. The meat literally falls off the bone. I could easily eat a dozen ribs. The squid ink karaage was next. This is their most popular item. Squeeze the fresh lime on the karaage and dip it into the black garlic ranch for a multi-level flavor experience. Next came the yakitori skewers. The ahi tuna is thick cut and absolutely delicious. The mushroom party is so flavorful. The chicken meatball mixed in the perfect sous vide egg yolk is a fantastic experience. Then the onigiri is the perfect way to end the meal. If you still have room, then you need to get the grilled Fuji apple. A baked Fuji apple with ice cream, fresh berries and an amazing sesame butter cookie. If they sold these cookies, I would buy a dozen. A fantastic meal that is easily my favorite meal of the year. Combine that with wonderful service and this will make Hatch a place you will want to return to time and time again.

Solid yakitori place with great dishes, fun decor, and good service! I went for the lunch menu with a couple of a la carte orders so I could try more things. Started off with the soft shell crab "taco" that featured a crispy and fresh soft shell crab in their squid ink batter. I loved the mix of crab and spicy mayo with the sweet apple and herbacious flavors from the mint/basil and micro-greens. The squid ink karaage was tasty too! The chicken thigh pieces were tender and well seasoned. The batter was thick but gave a solid crunch. The shiny black garlic ranch dip was interesting and did have a subtle garlic-y taste with the prominent mayo flavors. For the yakitori, the beef tongue was SO tender and well marinated with their sauce. They came in big chunks with a nice charred flavor. I'd come back for this! The mushroom party was also solid with an even more powerful charred aroma and savory taste. I wish the chicken thighs were a little more tender but loved the green onions. I'm not a big pork belly fan but it was well done with a good ratio of meat to fat. The Michael Kelps came with unagi yakitori which was pretty good! Eel sauce and flavors prominent but didn't stand out compared to other grilled unagi. I appreciated the addition of toasted black rice, crispy garlic pieces, and seaweed salad to add textural contrast with the soft unagi and rice. There was a miscommunication with our server regarding our beef tongue order and he was super apologetic about, but also immediately reviewed the rest of the orders to make sure we didn't miss anything else. He checked in often, attentive to our little needs, and was very helpful with answering questions. More importantly, he was honest about me over ordering at first. After scratching one of my initial orders, it turned out to the right amount of food! I liked the showcase of their bar and alcohol types while also featuring anime and Japanese movie posters. The Bloc has a parking structure around the block and you can get it validated at the Hatch. I would definitely come back to check out their other dishes and cocktails!

I'd been hearing good things about Hatch, so I finally decided to check it out. It's located in Downtown LA with parking available in the structure -- just don't forget to get validated or it'll cost you a lot. Reservations were easy to make through Resy, and we happened to go during DineLA. The vibe is modern and stylish, definitely a good spot for a date. The menu is American/Japanese fusion, and it works really well here. We ordered one DineLA set menu and added a bunch of items à la carte so we could try more things. A few standouts for me were the Squid Ink Karaage, Corn Tempura Tower, Wagyu & Wasabi, and the Grilled Rice Ball. Honestly, everything we tried was solid. They even have Japanese apple soda, which was super refreshing. Overall, I was impressed. The food had more flavor and creativity than I expected, the service was smooth, and the atmosphere made it a fun night out. I'd definitely come back again!

I went and shockingly enjoyed the food quite a lot! We ordered the Avo Tuna Toast (perfectly done), followed by the Michael Kelps (Unagi Bowl) and salad, and Nori Honey Chicken Sando! I also ordered the Ghost Malone. The service was very quick and the waiters were very entertaining, which made the experience fun. I will add that the ambiance was nice and the decor was really modern while providing an easy environment to chat in during a lunch hour. I will be back again for sure and for the drinks!!! Cheers! 5/5

Food: 3.5/5 | Ambiance: 4/5 | Drinks: 4/5 | Service: 4/5 Hatch is a cool kushiyaki spot in LA with great vibes, friendly staff, and a solid drinks menu. The ambiance is definitely a highlight--good mood lighting, nicely decorated, and tables spaced out so you don't feel cramped. If you can, sit at the bar; it looked like a fun place to chat with the staff. Food was hit or miss. The squid ink karaage was unique and delicious--the chicken was fried perfectly and it looked amazing when served. The hamachi was fresh, sliced just right, and came with a citrusy sauce that had a nice kick. The yaki onigiri was good, though I personally would've liked it grilled a little longer for more crunch. The skewers were mixed: Pork belly: chewy and hard to pull off the skewer since it wasn't charred enough. Eggplant: sweeter than I prefer. Chicken heart: my favorite--tender and flavorful. Chicken meatball: decent but nothing special. Hokkaido scallops: didn't work for me--the sauce covered up the natural scallop flavor, which felt like a waste. Overall, Hatch is worth trying for the atmosphere and a few standout dishes (the karaage especially), but I'd hesitate to go back unless the kushiyaki itself improves. Great for a quick bite and drinks, but not somewhere I'd go for the skewers alone.

This place unfortunately wasn't worth it. My boyfriend usually says you should try a place for yourself, no matter what others think, but this is one of the rare exceptions. We would not recommend it. The ambiance was there--I loved the alcohol displays and the interior design. The food, however, was very disappointing. I ordered the squid ink karaage and got only four tiny pieces for $9 (see photo). The wagyu skewer was terrorizing, and the bacon-wrapped shishito peppers were decent but very salty. Service was okay, nothing special. They also charge a Kitchen Appreciation fee, which we wished had been mentioned upfront. My Score (out of 10) Taste: .5/5 Cleanliness: 1/1 Service: 1/2 Operations: .5/1 (because of the Kitchen Appreciation fee) Value: 0/1 Total: 3/10

Hey, if a bar restroom is well taken care of, you know the place has Class.... And Bar Magnolia has the Class to Match! Of course, there is bar stool seating at the bar... (I usually prefer sitting at the bar as there's always some great stories to be heard and when it time to order another round, you can literally just cut out the... Middle Man (Aka waiting for your server to come check back in) In addition to the bar top stools, there are also low top tables, and a few couch-chairs with a low top table for more intimate conversations. Besides those $18 craft cocktails, a short, well Curated list of bubbles, vino and draft beers are all up for grabs. Unfortunately, we had stopped to eat before we arrived (bad move on our part), but next time, and THERE WILL BE A NEXT TIME, we will definitely partake in their food menu (cause damn, did it look GOOD!) So whether you are a guest of Hotel Figueroa, you are leaving the Crypto Arena after a concert and want to paint the town red, or you are simply just wanting to sit, relax and enjoy a nice cocktail at a classy, upscale, but not so pretentious Cocktail Lounge... Bar Magnolia is your place! Well, it's almost closing time, they are about to call for Last Call, so order us another round, bottoms up and Cheers to us!!!

Once there, I was told happy hour is only Monday through Thursday. I pulled up their own website and showed it to the server. The response? A shrug. No apology, no explanation, no effort to make it right. This is straight-up false advertising, and the lack of accountability made it worse. If you're going to change your happy hour, update your website and train your staff to handle it professionally. I shouldn't have to argue with a bar over their own posted information. Won't be back.

5* Ambiance 5* Service…read more5* Coctails Level 8 really has done a fantastic job creating a jazz/entertainment bar with great service, drinks, and unpretentious service. The guests, come and go and at each moment, in any corner, be ready to be surprised and entertained by a live DJ, acrobat, burlesque performer, pianist and singer. What a show! Veronica at the bar was fantastic and made us drinks just to our order. Supper knowledgable, helpful and kind. Definitely, this place is a great hangout after a meal... be prepared to be be dazzled and entertained.

Gonna try to paint the picture in as few words as possible. Sorry for the long narrative:…read more 1) I planned out a special night for my wife throughout all of Level 8 2) Had reservations set at Lucky Mizu for Dinner to Mr. Wanderlust for Cocktails and Entertainment and then to Sinners and Santos for Drinking and Dancing for Latin Night 3) Showed up for our 6:45 PM reservation at Lucky Mizu but was turned away 3 times stating they didn't have seats available. After being seated 40 minutes later, service took 20 minutes to take our order, and another 30 minutes to be served. Food was 'okay', there was no entertainment, and multiple customers were unhappy with similar slow service... but some of them were comped parts of their meals.. we didn't even get a sorry until we spoke to the manager on our way out, expressing the reason was they had no idea it would be this busy on a Thursday (they take reservations, so...), and also blamed an 'all you can eat promotion' they promoted earlier, and they only had two serves on staff that night. 4) We were late to Mr. Wanderlust, but were luck to get two seats at the bar after another couple left. We order two cocktails and a coffee... and were charged just over $140. Then, we were asked to move because they wanted to take our seats. We asked about the bill to the bartendar, and she expressed that since she didn't take our original order, she couldn't help us. She simply just had us stand there. We were not going to pay since it seemed way off... until finally we spoke to a guy walking by. We showed him our ticket/receipt and said out loud, "this isn't right". He came back quickly with a revised bill of almost $120. This was still far too high, but no one else seemed interested in helping us find resolve, so we ate it since we didn't want to be late for part 3 of the night. 5) Hoping to salvage the night with drinks and dancing... we tried to find the entrance to Sinners and Santos for their advertised Latin night. We had made reservations here too, and had full confirmation of the reservation... BUT, after finally being directed to the entrance (outside on the patio), they were closed. No sign of why and no one who worked at the other locations had a reason, but they were just simply closed. 6) So, after paying $35 for parking, about $140 in cocktails and food while waiting for our initial reservation at Golden Hour and Que Barbaro, $150+ for dinner at Lucky Mizu, and $120 at Mr. Wanderlust... approximately $500 total... we didn't even get to dance. Maybe this place had a bad night, but based on what the workers said, and how they treated us... it sure seems like the norm. Don't get me wrong, the place is cool... some really great experiential elements and nice photo ops... but I would have had a much better time somewhere else. Super disappointed in this place.

Took some friends here who were visiting and wanted a Speakeasy experience…read more It was maybe 9:30/10pm on a Friday and it wasn't super busy. We were able to get a seat on the coach and order drinks from the bar relatively quickly. Prices were pretty typical of LA ($18-25 a cocktail) but I would say I probably won't come back this late as it's in a shadier part of town. They have a bouncer and it was fine inside, but it's not a place where you can bar hop if that's what you're looking for as the area is seedy. Would be interested to try the food next time, but again, the safety and comfort of the light of day.

NOVEMBER 26.2025…read more I've been through many iterations of The Library Bar over the years... from small and cozy secret bar for those that work in the looming skyscrapers of Downtown LA to being some noisy urban hip hop affair that served godawful drinks (see my past review!), and on back to being a calm and casual neighborhood bar again. The interior never changes... dark... illuminated by candlelight... the bust of Shakespeare over the fireplace, the shelves of old books-- all of it remains intact. But this latest Library Bar seems to have finally dialed in what was always sorely missing in that it showcases a conscientious staff that all seem to know how to mix drinks while treating the customer well by leaving them be. On one night my date and I share a "Black Manhattan," basically a Manhattan with the generous addition of Averna, and it's terrific. On another night, I go for Happy Hour and a few pints of Guinness on draft that are surprisingly proper and go well with their excellent and, I'm told, homemade Hummus & Veggies Plate. The music at this current Library Bar is pretty much on point and is never so loud as to interfere with the conversations that patrons seem to come here for... something you should come here for too, and maybe at Happy Hour specifically if you're looking for a nice bump in your day and to spend an hour, well, happily.

I finally was able to check it off, thanks to a hotel offer with a dining credit. Dahlia is the gorgeous petite space behind the larger ground floor restaurant space now called Cabrillo (formerly Caldo Verde). Dahlia opened as a bespoke cocktail lounge, then began to offer tea. Now it's just tea. There are five 2-tops and two 4-top tables. All food and beverage venues at the Proper used to be under the auspices of famed chef Suzanne Goin and her business partner/sommelier Caroline Styne. They are no longer affiliated with the Proper, but many of their dishes/contributions remain. The last named vestige of them is on the tea menu, "Suzanne's Deviled-Egg Sandwich". The tea menu has several options: Classic, with a seasonal mocktail, or with different champagnes. I opted for the Classic experience, because the mocktail had mocha, not my fave. Server Lluvia was clearly a Dahlia veteran; she offered a tea-smelling of all the teas that interested me as well as crowd favourites. I ultimately chose one of these faves, Mad Hatter's Tea Party, which had passionfruit and vanilla. I declined milk/cream, but did get lemon. There were rock sugar sticks on the table. It seems the selection of tea sandwiches and sweet treats changes every so often, although the vanilla bean scone, dried currant scone, Devonshire cream and apricot orange jam seem like constants. The sandwich selection at my visit were: cucumber, crab/creme fraiche, beet hummus on pita, smoked salmon and Suzanne's deviled egg. All were delish, the beet, crab and deviled egg especially. The sweet treats were: orange fig butter cookie, spiced apple brown butter crumble, cranberry frangipane hand pie, chocolate mocha macaron, pumpkin madeleine, plus the 2 scones. All were excellent. There were no leftovers. A bit pricey, but a relaxing and lovely experience. The room was not crowded when I visited, adding to the calmness of my visit.

It's not surprising given the neighborhood and decor, but I think they lean towards more Japanese spirits and beers. For someone like me who's never been to Japan I feel like there's a traditional Japanese theme going on inside with lots of wood. A few friends and I came here on a holiday before dinner. Happy hour specials were still going on. I'm not sure if they thought they were gonna get that much business on a holiday but I think there's only maybe one or two people behind the bar. Since it was early when we got there, it was still not that crowded. I got the special which was a shot of Japanese whisky and a beer. Great price! Haha. I've walked by before where this place is really crowded so I assume there's a lot more people working behind the bar during the regular busy hours. Just a great place to grab drink drinks.

My girlfriend and I ordered two Old Fashioneds made with Ilegal Mezcal. The bottle being used was nearly empty, and as professionals in the hospitality industry, we are very familiar with proper pour standards. It was clear there wasn't enough product left for two consistent drinks. The bartender, Bryan, prepared both cocktails without using a jigger. When I politely asked why one drink appeared noticeably lighter than the other and why he wasn't measuring the pour, he smirked, gave a slight laugh, and responded that he "knows the exact measurement of his glasses." The tone and gesture felt dismissive and mocking rather than professional. Instead of addressing a reasonable concern with transparency, the response came across as defensive and condescending. To make matters worse, a 20% gratuity was automatically added, bringing the total to $71.12 for two inconsistent Old Fashioneds. Precision, consistency, and respect are basic standards in this industry. Unfortunately, this experience did not reflect that. We won't be returning.

A group of my friends and I have come here three different times, really wanting to like this place because the atmosphere is beautiful and lively. Unfortunately, each visit has been consistently disappointing due to the same bartender--a shorter male with visible tattoos and facial hair, who seems to regularly work one side of the bar. On all three occasions, we experienced being ignored while trying to order, even as other guests who arrived after us were served first. The first time, we were eventually told "you guys can wait" in a rude tone of voice while he continued taking other orders. The second time, we were never helped at all and had to move to another part of the bar, where a female bartender provided much better service. The third visit was the most concerning. When we tried to get his attention, he responded in a dismissive and rude tone, and as he walked away, we overheard him make an inappropriate comment about us under his breath calling us out of our name and we felt very disrespected so much so that we just left. We completely understand that weekends can get busy, but consistently dismissive and disrespectful service--especially across multiple visits--is not acceptable and we've also seen him be rude to other guests as well. Aside from this issue, the venue itself is great, which is why we gave it multiple chances. I really hope management can address this, as it impacts the overall appearance and experience of the establishment. Thank you.
