The Mexican Pizza here was tasty and fresh. I ordered it made with ground beef. There was a generous portion of ground beef on the crispy flour tortilla. The beans were creamy in texture served with sauteed green peppers, onions, and tomatoes mixed together. The cheese on top was melted. It would have been tastier if there was a topping of sliced green onions. But, overall, it was a satisfying, good filling lunch for one person and definitely shareable with others if ordered as an appetizer. Dining room booth was comfortable. This review is for the cantina side of Amigos, not the restaurant side, so keep that in mind for this review. My friend told me there's a dive bar that has really strong margaritas and great Mexican food. How could I not want to check it out?! When you open the door, you immediately provide the major source of light for the whole place. It's the classic, dark, old school bar feel, sans the smoke. I'm sure back in the day it was cloudy in there! I freakin' loved it right away. It was a Thursday for happy hour, and almost all the seats were taken. There are booths, or you can sit at the bar. It's loud in there. People are using their "I'm having a great time voices, and I'll tell you why. Wanna' know? It's because the margaritas pack a powerful punch! More than one might just put you on your bee-hind! Haha!! The chips and salsa were great. The chips were warm, perfectly crispy, not too salty, and the salsa was just the right amount of flavor and heat. I had a simple bean and cheese burrito off the à la carte menu. $10.50. It was huge! Decent Mexican restaurant! We came here after playing at kidspace nearby. Parking lot was full but found street parking. Liked that they did the cheese quesadilla kids meal with guacamole and sour cream! My seafood tacos - shrimp and tilapia were delicious! I am going to guess this is a local favorite in Pasadena. We were still able to get our seats right away, and the service was quick. I ordered 2 carne asada taco a la carte. They do not skimp on their meat. It was the largest small taco I've ever had lol, and so good. I could not finish both, and my daughter got to enjoy some with me. We all loved all plates. Their rice and beans were so good, I could not stop eating my husband's (luckily he didn't mind since his burrito was so big and delicious as well). Back at it again this spot is a classic hole-in-the-wall--it may look a bit dated, but that's probably how they keep the prices so low. Food was large and in charge. I ordered the Picadillo Chimichanga. I could not finish the burrito and only Finished 3/4 of it and half the plate. The staff was friendly and attentive- we came during Father's Day so it was really busy and didn't have staff attend to our big group as many times during our visit, but when they came around they were quick and efficient. The burrito was good, I wanted to try the wet burrito, but maybe it would've been better for me if I asked for the sauce on the side (maybe next time to see if the chimichanga was crispy). The food taste was as expected, size was huge, but the flavor was average. I love this place. I've been coming here for over 12 years now. They have the best margaritas in town, or anywhere I've had so far actually. They're not all sugary like most places make them, they've got some kick to them haha. I usually sit at the bar, and you can order food from there and get chips and salsa while you wait for your order. Always great service, and a great crowd that shows up regularly. For a huge flavor bomb get a small side order of chopped fried garlic cooked in butter. It's a big plate for big eaters and can easily be shared with two or three peeps. Add in a beer or one of the strong tasty margaritas and you're all set( Im known for downing teo or three,,,sometimes four!). My go to margarita is the house mix on the rocks sometimes I'll get the fruit versions if mango, strawberry or peach . Ask on the rocks or blended salt ir mo salt. They force you to eat the food THEIR way. I requested guacamole dip without cilantro ans every time I am told they cannot leave out the cilantro and claim that it is already in the guacamole. But then when they bring it out it is clearly sprinkled on top of the tomato slices so they CAN make it without but CHOOSE NOT TO. This is one of those inflexible Restaurants that do not let you leave out the cilantro. Also they nickle and dime you to death- wanted to charge me 50 Cents for each little slice of lime. Then even when it isnt busy it is super hard to get the waiter/waitress to come back to your table and ask for the things they forget to bring to the table. I had get up and get extra napkins myself. The female waitress with the short hair isnt friendly. The food is mediocre. I only come here bc my friend always wants to come here for the Margarita. I was so hungry and had a long day, so we ordered about $100 of food from Amigo's. I know we all have different preferences, but this was the blandest enchilada I've ever had. I've never felt the need to add spices to my food, but it's weird to eat rich Mexican food that has no flavor. Something was wrong with the strawberry lemonade, it tasted like sweat and I couldn't drink it! The tried the yellow one and it was a bit better, but still tasted funky, like it had been sitting in the heat in the plastic cup, it tasted like plastic. I tried the poppers finally and had to rinse my mouth out with ice cream and gave the dog the rest of the food. I wonder if the kitchen was just having an off night, the reviews seem fine. I cannot even begin to count the number of times we've driven by Amigo's and never even considered trying it out until my wife's coworkers kept raving about how good it was. Needless to say, they were right and the food is damn tasty. We have tried a few dishes over the past 3 visits and everything is good. You can't go wrong with any of the burritos and my wife loves the albondigas soup. There are certain dishes that Amigo's doesn't offer but those cravings can be taken care of with a short drive further East. We slept on this restaurant the entire time we lived in Pasadena. We ordered to go literally the last two days that we lived there, and we were so upset we didn't go sooner. You can tell the moment you walk in--bathroom door handles covered in dust, which already says a lot. The salsa tastes pre-made, straight out of Restaurant Depot. Service was painfully slow. The tortillas were so thick I needed a steak knife to cut them. The only reason this place has good reviews is because the margaritas are overfilled with cheap tequila, not because the food or cleanliness deserve it. Very disappointing. Well first and foremost the food was good. My concern is about the house margaritas and even the Cadillac.These drinks are definitely not the same margaritas that I've enjoyed in the past. Place is separated into two rooms, bar and dinning lounge. Taste decent. Good size portions. Very affordable. Never had a bad meal or bad service here. Waiters has always been courteous and never subtly pressure me to leave even if I've been sitting for a while. Chips were homemade and had perfect snap, texture and thickness. Quac was pure avocado goodness, not overly saturated with ingredients, just creamy avocado. This place honestly surprised me. From the outside it doesn't look like much. Never seems like anyone ever goes in there. There are no windows. My husband and I decided to go here for lunch one day since it's close to our house. We've literally lived a few blocks away from this place for years and have never tried it. We got there just at the right time because by the time we were seated the whole restaurant had filled up and quickly. They brought us fresh chips and salsa pretty quickly. The chips were so yummy and warm and very fresh. The salsa was good and had a nice spice kick to it. We ordered house margaritas on the rocks. They are pretty strong. There is a lunch menu, fairly priced. I ordered the fajita burrito off the lunch menu and my husband ordered the shrimp cocktail off the regular menu and a carne asada taco off the lunch menu. All the items came out super quick and nice and hot. Everything we ate was really good. Again very surprised. Overall prices are not too high, and you get a lot of food and a stiff drink. Stopped by for lunch as my friend lately likes the food here. Im a bit more critical and skeptical when it comes to Mexican food and prefer a bit more authenticity but agreed to give it a try. It's been years since I stopped by, and this was the first time coming here for the food. I've come here in the past for those weird hour soccer games or other sports and had only ordered the typical bar food/appetizers. The dining area is pretty mellow, and there's a whole different but fun vibe in the separate bar room area. So it offers variety in the sense of type of ambiance that you may be looking for. There are plenty of options/dishes to choose from. There were a variety of soups but didn't see menudo, which i was craving. My friend ordered the albondiga soup "cup," which was a large bowl and two beef a la carte soft tacos, which were also huge, and he enjoyed all of it. I ordered the asada plate with an added cheese enchilada. The asada wasn't bad and was a nice size, but it was a bit too nervy/fatty. I need spice in my food, so i asked for a spicy salsa. The bad thing was that even though this was a habanero salsa, it had too much tomato or water and was not spicy, and there was a 2dollar charge extra for this. There's a small parking lot and 2hr street parking available. The service was slow, and at times, we didn't see any servers. It also took a while to get the check. First time here, was really looking forward to it because of the pictures I saw from google. Looked delicious. Ambiance: old style, simply, nothing that catches the eye. Service: we were attended a total of 3 times, 1 to seat us and get our drinks, 2 to take our order, 3 to check on us once and thats it. We were there for a whole hour and only 3 times were we attended for and each was a different person. Food: I am a little picky and everyone has different tastes so don't completely rely on my personal opinion, but I myself would rate my enchilada plate a 4.5/10. I have had more flavorful mexican dishes anywhere else. To me personally the enchiladas had no flavor and just tasted like tortillas chicken and tomatoey. The rice was bland as well as the beans. Again everyone has different taste buds it could be amazing to others we're all different. I would definitely try another dish or come here for different dishes in the future hopefully.
