This really shows why you can't rely on Yelp. Hands down the worst Mexican restaurant I've been to. You can tell the moment you walk in--bathroom door handles covered in dust, which already says a lot. The salsa tastes pre-made, straight out of Restaurant Depot. Service was painfully slow. The tortillas were so thick I needed a steak knife to cut them. The only reason this place has good reviews is because the margaritas are overfilled with cheap tequila, not because the food or cleanliness deserve it. Very disappointing. Wow, just wow. This place is a hidden gem. It's definitely a hole in the wall, so don't come if you're trying to take cute pics. This spot is all about the food, drinks, and service. Generous portions. Delicious food. Friendly service. What more can you ask for? We came last night for dinner around 6, and it was already packed. I am going to guess this is a local favorite in Pasadena. We were still able to get our seats right away, and the service was quick. I ordered 2 carne asada taco a la carte. They do not skimp on their meat. It was the largest small taco I've ever had lol, and so good. I could not finish both, and my daughter got to enjoy some with me. We all loved all plates. Their rice and beans were so good, I could not stop eating my husband's (luckily he didn't mind since his burrito was so big and delicious as well). Back at it again this spot is a classic hole-in-the-wall--it may look a bit dated, but that's probably how they keep the prices so low. Came here for lunch with some coworkers and ordered the two-item combo with a crispy beef taco and chicken enchilada. The taco was perfectly crunchy, and the beef was juicy and flavorful. The enchilada hit the spot too the sauce was solid. What really stood out was the beans and rice, surprisingly fire. Plus, you get free chips and salsa, which is always a win. I love this place. I've been coming here for over 12 years now. They have the best margaritas in town, or anywhere I've had so far actually. They're not all sugary like most places make them, they've got some kick to them haha. I usually sit at the bar, and you can order food from there and get chips and salsa while you wait for your order. Always great service, and a great crowd that shows up regularly. Food was large and in charge. I ordered the Picadillo Chimichanga. I could not finish the burrito and only Finished 3/4 of it and half the plate. The staff was friendly and attentive- we came during Father's Day so it was really busy and didn't have staff attend to our big group as many times during our visit, but when they came around they were quick and efficient. The burrito was good, I wanted to try the wet burrito, but maybe it would've been better for me if I asked for the sauce on the side (maybe next time to see if the chimichanga was crispy). The food taste was as expected, size was huge, but the flavor was average. Trying the ground beef by itself, it was bland, the veggies tasted fresh, and the sauce was yummy- put it all together and it's a decent burrito. The price and the size are pretty good! If you're hungry and don't want to spend a King's ransom order my usual go to items: steak quesadillas with guacamole, pico de gallo and red or green salsa and sour cream. For a huge flavor bomb get a small side order of chopped fried garlic cooked in butter. It's a big plate for big eaters and can easily be shared with two or three peeps. Add in a beer or one of the strong tasty margaritas and you're all set( Im known for downing teo or three,,,sometimes four!). My go to margarita is the house mix on the rocks sometimes I'll get the fruit versions if mango, strawberry or peach . Ask on the rocks or blended salt ir mo salt. I get mine with Tajin on the rim and sprinkled on top. Definitely sho' am good! read more

They force you to eat the food THEIR way. I requested guacamole dip without cilantro ans every time I am told they cannot leave out the cilantro and claim that it is already in the guacamole. But then when they bring it out it is clearly sprinkled on top of the tomato slices so they CAN make it without but CHOOSE NOT TO. This is one of those inflexible Restaurants that do not let you leave out the cilantro. Also they nickle and dime you to death- wanted to charge me 50 Cents for each little slice of lime. Then even when it isnt busy it is super hard to get the waiter/waitress to come back to your table and ask for the things they forget to bring to the table. I had get up and get extra napkins myself. The female waitress with the short hair isnt friendly. The food is mediocre. I only come here bc my friend always wants to come here for the Margarita. I cannot even begin to count the number of times we've driven by Amigo's and never even considered trying it out until my wife's coworkers kept raving about how good it was. Needless to say, they were right and the food is damn tasty. We have tried a few dishes over the past 3 visits and everything is good. You can't go wrong with any of the burritos and my wife loves the albondigas soup. We slept on this restaurant the entire time we lived in Pasadena. We ordered to go literally the last two days that we lived there, and we were so upset we didn't go sooner. Their burritos were great, the flautas were delicious, the nachos were also! The agua frescas were also very good. Honestly, still kicking myself for not coming here sooner. I am usually really picky about rice and beans and their rice and beans were delicious! This place is so yummy. I love their combinado plate and I always get the chile relleno and enchiladas. They put a generous amount of food in your plate so I suggest you get a plate for 2 people. The kind of "comfort" Mexican food I enjoy most. Savory Mexican rice, creamy refried beans topped with cheese, and perfectly flavored beef in a hard-shell taco. Chips here are also superb, something often overlooked, many restaurants opting for cheaper "Tostitos" supermarket style chips. Here, not the case. Chips were homemade and had perfect snap, texture and thickness. Quac was pure avocado goodness, not overly saturated with ingredients, just creamy avocado. Salsa, ok, here's the (If you can call it that) downfall. With great chips, must come great salsa. There's is just average, actually, a little on the salty side as well. This place honestly surprised me. From the outside it doesn't look like much. Never seems like anyone ever goes in there. There are no windows. My husband and I decided to go here for lunch one day since it's close to our house. We've literally lived a few blocks away from this place for years and have never tried it. We got there just at the right time because by the time we were seated the whole restaurant had filled up and quickly. They brought us fresh chips and salsa pretty quickly. The chips were so yummy and warm and very fresh. The salsa was good and had a nice spice kick to it. We ordered house margaritas on the rocks. They are pretty strong. There is a lunch menu, fairly priced. I ordered the fajita burrito off the lunch menu and my husband ordered the shrimp cocktail off the regular menu and a carne asada taco off the lunch menu. All the items came out super quick and nice and hot. Everything we ate was really good. Again very surprised. Overall prices are not too high, and you get a lot of food and a stiff drink. Prompt service, good food, and strong drinks. What more can you ask for? I went there for the first time two weeks ago and I went back the following week. The enchiladas were packed and the chile relleno covered half the plate. The dishes were saucy, cheesy and delicious. A good time was had by all! First time here, was really looking forward to it because of the pictures I saw from google. Looked delicious. Ambiance: old style, simply, nothing that catches the eye. Service: we were attended a total of 3 times, 1 to seat us and get our drinks, 2 to take our order, 3 to check on us once and thats it. We were there for a whole hour and only 3 times were we attended for and each was a different person. Food: I am a little picky and everyone has different tastes so don't completely rely on my personal opinion, but I myself would rate my enchilada plate a 4.5/10. I have had more flavorful mexican dishes anywhere else. To me personally the enchiladas had no flavor and just tasted like tortillas chicken and tomatoey. The rice was bland as well as the beans. Again everyone has different taste buds it could be amazing to others we're all different. I would definitely try another dish or come here for different dishes in the future hopefully. The night bartender is very rude and critical of others who don't agree with his beliefs. I heard him call a customer a racist. Stopped by for lunch as my friend lately likes the food here. Im a bit more critical and skeptical when it comes to Mexican food and prefer a bit more authenticity but agreed to give it a try. It's been years since I stopped by, and this was the first time coming here for the food. I've come here in the past for those weird hour soccer games or other sports and had only ordered the typical bar food/appetizers. The dining area is pretty mellow, and there's a whole different but fun vibe in the separate bar room area. So it offers variety in the sense of type of ambiance that you may be looking for. There are plenty of options/dishes to choose from. There were a variety of soups but didn't see menudo, which i was craving. My friend ordered the albondiga soup "cup," which was a large bowl and two beef a la carte soft tacos, which were also huge, and he enjoyed all of it. I ordered the asada plate with an added cheese enchilada. The asada wasn't bad and was a nice size, but it was a bit too nervy/fatty. I need spice in my food, so i asked for a spicy salsa. The bad thing was that even though this was a habanero salsa, it had too much tomato or water and was not spicy, and there was a 2dollar charge extra for this. There's a small parking lot and 2hr street parking available. The service was slow, and at times, we didn't see any servers. It also took a while to get the check. Overall, would probably come again to try other menu items (and probably bring my own salsa! ). read more

I walked in on a busy Friday evening a little disappointed that being there at 6 o'clock did not constitute happy hour. Spoiler alert. Do not think that you're gonna get happy hour on Friday. Their happy hour is Monday through Thursday. That's disappointing, but it was all good. It took a hot minute to get service...it took a little bit longer to get chips and salsa. (I had to ask.). And I don't think you should have to ask for water or chips and salsa and I had questions about their margaritas and I'm just gonna tell you this my feeling was that it was like order whichever one you want and shut up that's the feeling I got... and maybe that's because I asked a lot of questions about which margarita to order... There's quite a few on the menu and I wanted to know a few things and I don't think there's anything wrong with asking questions. I don't like when I go up to a bar and it's sticky or wet and it was sticky and wet and even when he came to wipe it down, he didn't get all of it so that just tells me he's half assed doing his job like a little bit more focus on customer service and being nice and friendly goes a long way. The food portion sizes were great. They were huge food was good chips and salsa were amazing. I was happy with all of that. Just not happy with the service Darling Nikki was playing...anytime a Prince song is playing. I'm happy, so it was an average experience with decent food. This is one of the best burgers I have had, and it is in a Mexican restaurant! The meat is nicely caramelized with shredded lettuce, tomato, crunchy bacon, and a mayoed sesame bun. Add ketchup to the mayo, and this reminds you of a better, bigger Bobs Big Boy burger, minis the extra bun! It was so good, I forgot to ask for pickles. Fries are crisp and flavored. The diet coke tasted like real coke, though I'm sure it isnt. The best part is for the lunch special, its only $11.75 for a combo--terrific bacon cheeseburger, fries, coke, and great service!
