It's been a long time coming since I've been back to Houston's. And boy do I miss it. Food was delicious. The service was excellent. I was seated at the bar and even though the bartenders were swamped they were still attentive and make sure everything was good and if anything else was needed. It was crowded for a Friday afternoon, you can imagine how bust it would be during dinner time and weekends. I would always recommend Houston's, you can never go with wrong with a Pasadena staple. I'll be making more trips back. I will say the sushi was okay, maybe because of the roll I got. But it wasn't bad either. Maybe I'll try a different one next time. read more

What a fantastic birthday surprise! My girlfriend blindfolded me and refused to tell me where we were going for my 49th birthday. I had no idea what to expect, but wow... she absolutely nailed it! The pineapple ribeye was amazing packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. The wood-grilled ribeye never fails: tender, juicy, and absolutely phenomenal. Every bite was worth it. Of course, I had to pair it with their regular margarita, and as always, it did not disappoint. Consistently delicious every time. Great food, great drinks, and an unforgettable birthday experience. Houston we have a problem! What happened in the divorce? Did somebody else get the hospitality, all the flavor, the cleanliness policy and left Houston with nothing? The bathrooms were clean, but the floors near the bar and the entrance were dirty. With napkins from people's cocktails, and the food had no flavor. And we had to package our own food to go. Told the manager about it, and she had very little concern. Our show very little concern. Her only offer was to replace the dish. I wasn't interested in getting another dish of food; I just wanted to know what happened. Give me a reason to come back, but she wasn't interested. Certainly is detached from the polished brand that is Houston's. It's always been a go-to whenever I brought people in from other states. We've always celebrated anniversaries, birthdays, and monumental events with Houston's. Whoever is in charge must not care about the business as they once did. And it's showing. read more

Came here on a Saturday night with reservations 2 weeks in advance. They are extremely busy and not built for large parties. I highly recc coming as a party of 2 if you're trying to do a walk in. Great ambiance, seating area is spaced out well, unlike many trendy LA restaurants. Roughly $100 per person included 2 entrees, 2 apps, 2 drinks. Ribeye ans ribs were 10/10. Cooked perfectly. I love their fries too. Yellowtail "salad" was delish and refreshing. Deviled eggs were good but skippable. I did not like the jackrabbit drink. I've always enjoyed dining at Houston's, which is why this visit was so disappointing. I met an old friend for lunch yesterday, and from the moment our food arrived we were constantly swatting away gnats. It was distracting and made it difficult to enjoy the meal. Our waitress also seemed to be rushing us to order, even after we explained we were longtime friends catching up and planned to have a leisurely lunch. We later found out another server was taking over because her shift had ended, which explained the rush, but it still made us feel hurried. To top it off, the fire alarm went off during our meal. It was extremely loud and unpleasant. The staff apologized, which we appreciated, but combined with the gnats and the rushed service, it really put a damper on the experience. Houston's is usually one of my favorite restaurants because of its consistently great food and service. Unfortunately, this visit missed the mark. One of my favorite restaurants in Pasadena. The food is consistently good, the service has always been excellent, and the only downside has been the long wait when we don't have a reservation. As a long-time customer of almost 20 years, I was very disappointed with our visit around 7 pm on July 26, 2026. My husband was told by a manager that his outfit did not meet the dress code, so he respectfully went home to change. When we returned, we noticed other guests being seated in much more casual attire. When my husband politely asked why the dress code appeared to be enforced differently, the manager's response felt dismissive and did not address our concern. Instead, he was told he could leave if he was uncomfortable. Our concern is not about having a dress code -- we understand restaurants may have standards. The issue is the inconsistent enforcement and the way the situation was handled. We hope management reviews this matter and ensures policies are applied consistently and that all guests are treated with respect. read more

I saw that the Houston's/Hillstone restaurant empire has an online following, and it makes so much sense. The type of food honestly gives upscale chilis, but in a very quality ingredients way. If it's your first time: highly highly recommend the prime rib sandwich and the spinach dip. The ribeye is good too if you'd like a steak. I've been to a good amount of restaurants in LA and Houston's is pretty high up there on my list because I love the French prime rib dip sandwich and the ribeye steak is delicious and below $60 (which is a steal in this area for steakhouses). Very dimly lit and can get pretty loud with the crowd, but the service is nice and the food is reliably delicious. read more

For lunch I always get the French dip -- it's fantastic, made from cuts of prime rib! I had it again here and it was great as usual. My friend had the yellowtail sashimi and kale salad. I'm not a fan of kale salad but I had a taste and it was ok. (To each her own). The cocktails were both very nice. A great touch was that or server came to give us a new chilled glass when she saw that we were nursing our drinks and the first glass had lost its chill. That's what I call great service. read more

I was a little bit let down by Houstons in a few respects. The food was ok - except for the terribly thick chicken tortilla soup. It was kind of gross tbh. I was surprised to see very few steak options. The steaks come with sides included - unlike other steak houses (i.e.Flemings) where the sides are ordered separately. In terms of ambiance - it was really dark and in need of some updates. No fancy tablecloths here. Our drinks weren't automatically refilled - had to request this. They don't even ask if you're celebrating a special occasion. Parking was a disaster - very busy. Nice Pasadena location. I love Houston's! This location is very cool because of the koy fish outside. We had wonderful service and the ambiance is always nice and relaxed with the dim lighting. The spinach dip was of course absolutely delicious and my two year old loved the chips. I love how they refill the chips without asking when seeing we could use more. I really enjoyed the crab cakes and braised red cabbage. I mean the dabs of goat cheese just send the cabbage over the top as an awesome choice. It wasn't after 5pm so sadly, no baked potato for me. I did send my salmon back - but it was because they default to a medium rare cook on the salmon and for most people that's preferred. I can't have raw, so they were super great about it. They quickly served me a fresh plate with it cooked to a perfect medium. Seasoned well - very tasty! The ribeye was really good and you can smell steak deliciousness throughout the restaurant so I'm glad I got to taste it! Expensive but tasty!! Stopped in at Houston's restaurant at 320 S. Arroyo Parkway in Pasadena for a quick cocktail and appetizer. Heads up make reservations to avoid the long wait this is a popular spot and very trendy. When you first walk in you have this amazing ambience then you enter the restaurant everything is like a well oil machine. You get to see the chefs at work behind the kitchen and you see the active bar in all the players that Houston has are well trained, and polite and wonderful. The food is absolutely delicious. Five stars. The drinks are perfect. This is the perfect spot to take a date or some family or even to have a business meeting, it is very impressive. I dine at Hillstone restaurants frequently. However I look at two reviews that are negative and I might add they shouldn't be commenting. One complains about the dress code...well that is because they want quality customers and the other about how terrible it was for someone took too long to finish their meal. So make a reservation if you know the chain they are all busy so plan aead. It's terrible people that make these comments don't appreciate a decent establishment that caters to a classy demographic. Go to Dennys where your people; wear kmart clothing and expect people to shovel food in their face at a fast rate. read more

Came here to celebrate my fiancé's birthday, and overall it was a great experience. I'd definitely recommend making a reservation--this place fills up quickly, and wait times can easily hit an hour. The ambiance is beautiful: a fully stocked bar, open kitchen, and even a koi pond at the entrance, which the kids loved. Since we had a reservation, we were seated pretty quickly and our waters were filled right away. We had already looked over the menu, so we knew exactly what we wanted. We started with the artichoke dip and the coconut shrimp roll--both were amazing. My daughter isn't the biggest fan of the regular menu, but they do offer an off-menu grilled cheese with fries, which she loved. Just something to note: they don't have an official kids menu. For our mains, my fiancé and I both ordered the Hawaiian steak with a baked potato, and it was finger-licking good. Super flavorful and cooked perfectly. I also had the raspberry mojito--really refreshing with fresh lime and mint. For dessert, my daughter got the hot fudge sundae and absolutely devoured it. Our server, Elina (hope I'm spelling that right!), was fantastic--very attentive and especially accommodating with our daughter. All in all, I'd give this place 5/5 stars. Hadn't been to this restaurant in many years, the food didn't disappoint however before we were even seated I was asked to remove my baseball cap, at 3:00 in the afternoon this didn't make sense. After taking the last bite of dessert and spending over $300 a guy approached our table and gave a song and dance about their full reservations basically asking us to leave, we were definitely put off by that and we were celebrating a birthday which was embarrassing for the birthday person. If you're spending hundreds of dollars at an establishment you should be able to stay for a little while to at least let your meal settle before being kicked out. read more

I've been coming here for years and it's just as good as it was 10 years ago! We ordered the Ruby Red Trout, USDA Prime Wood Grilled Ribeye, and a Yellowtail Sashimi Salad. After waiting about 30-45 minutes, we were seated at a booth. (Tip: You don't have to wait as long for a bar seat) Our favorite of the day was the trout. It was perfectly cooked, tender, juicy, and unique. We will definitely be getting that one again. The rib eye was pretty ordinary for a steak. Not amazing but not bad. We enjoyed the yellowtail sashimi salad as well. The only complaint I have is that the dining room is SOOO dark! I can barely see what I'm eating. I know that it's supposed to be a fine dining kind of atmosphere but they could turn the lights a little brighter. To start out. I am visiting for business and anytime i pass by a Houston's i get excited because of all the good food and experiences i have had at other Houstons Properties. Unfortunately, this location fell far below expectations. The hostess was rude and requested i turn my phone down when the volume was not high. I am sitting at the bar alone and was listening to a podcast while waiting for my food. Keep in mind its lunch (2pm the place is packed and loud itself with the kitchen and people talking. Yet i was called out and embarrassed for listening to a person talk that was on my phone. To not make a scene i finished my meal which didnt taste right because the whole mood had changed. Then i see they give hot moist towels to every new person who sits down to clean their hands but i was never offered this. It seems to be I was not welcomed here. And after reviewing other bad reviews there seem to be a pattern towards people of color. They lost a customer for life. read more

This year I made reservations and invited my friend. Great service . Good food . We ordered sushi for appetizers. They used soy wrap not nori. We ordered the guacamole also. It was very fresh only bad thing not enough chips. The sushi was different but good. For my entree I had the French dip. The most tender beef I have ever had in a French dip. I haven't visited this location in several years. It was good to come back. This location is nestled on a corner with a small lot. There is additional parking as well as street parking available. At 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon this place had a 30-45m wait. It was packed. We found quick seating at the bar, our servers were top tier! I'm so glad we chose the bar. The spinach & artichoke dip was amazing, and the Hawaiian ribeyes were equally amazing. Sadly because we were early (dining before 4), we had to have French fries instead of the baked potatoes we were craving but our meal was still GREAT! It was my first time here- much to the surprise of the majority of my circle. Upon walking up, the line scared me but -surprise- the hostess said she had a table ready for the 2 of us. We came straight from CatCon, bags in tow, so it was nice we had a booth to spread out. I had an elderflower cocktail to start and my partner had a margarita. My drink wasn't the usual items I find and was a welcome change to the 'usual' lineup of cocktails. My partner said the marg could have been more mixed/blended but was otherwise good. We started with the spinach & artichoke dip which was honestly out of this world!! It came with sour cream and salsa (not sure why) but was such a nice dish. I'd come back just for this dip! We also started with one of their sushi rolls which had the most airy and light texture you could imagine. Without any nori or seaweed I found it was lacking the usual slightly-seasoned taste in accustom to in sushi rolls. And I did something I don't think I've ever done in a restaurant/ I added salt. And soy sauce. Much better. Entree for me was the crab cakes. I know, I know, I know what you're thinking - why get seafood at a steakhouse? Honestly, it said it was blue crab, and I just cannot resist that. Turns out I should have resisted- the texture was unlike any crab cake I'd ever had with such an odd flavor. I ate about 3/4 of 1 piece (my partner tried as well) and decided I couldn't eat anymore of it. The slaw it came with was also not to my liking. The server was kind enough to offer other items and apologized that I didn't like it, but it really just wasn't my thing. I finished my partner's fries and had some of their salad and called it a day. Overall I think I'd come back for apps and drinks. The service, however, was lovely. Our server is a gem! read more

Houston's is one of my longtime, stalwart destinations. Never a bad meal, service is great, love the decor and the artwork. One of my foundational go-tos. That said, I have to call this out, as it's the third time in the last 9 months I've seen it, and this time was the most outrageous. Two ladies dining at the table across from me were asked to leave because they had just exceeded some nebulous 2-hour time limit. All smiles, very polite, but it was clear it wasn't a request but a directive. These women had had a full meal, wine and dessert, and seemed to be doing nothing more provocative than allowing the meal to settle while chatting for a bit. The waitress made it clear to them (and, inadvertently, to any diners within earshot) that they absolutely must turn the table now. They looked properly shook as they grabbed their stuff and left. My table and a couple of other tables in the section exchanged wild looks. Houston's, what is this new posture? How are you comfortable making people so uncomfortable? Where in the basic tenets of customer service methodology does it say, "Always be sure the customer is aware that your company's profit margin trumps their satisfaction 100 times out of 100"? Our meal ended just a few minutes after. The two women were still out near the koi pond (rebranded as Houston's new "post-meal digestion lagoon" I guess) -- they were chatting with some other diners about the experience. I threw in my two cents and said "It's been happening here quite a bit." One of them turned to me and said, "This has been my favorite restaurant for years. But they're not gonna get a second chance to make this right with me." They were quite nice, and they did not act like they were victimized or humiliated. I know I would've been humiliated, and I'm worried it's gonna have me looking at my watch from now on instead of enjoying a meal. Poorly done. read more

The reasoning for my mediocre rating is because the bartender was have such a loud conversation with one of the guest that it made it hard for me to understand my friend who was sitting across from me. It was just a too loud. Also, when I went in the bathroom, it was a bit messy. I hold high-end restaurants chain to certain standard just because your playing a pretty penny for a certain quality.
