First time trying their crab cakes and omg it was so good. Usually it's all batter and small amounts of crab but at houstons it was 98% crab. It went really well with the coleslaw. Everything else was still good. Love coming here for the house salad and Hawaiian rib eye. But we will be adding crab cakes to the rotation now. Service is always good. This is the second time I've been to Houston's and I love it. I highly recommend the Wood Grilled Rib-Eye. One of the best steaks I've had and it is a great deal considering the portion size to the price. For my future self, remember to cut the steak in half and start from the middle! The juiciest/fattiest part is in the middle so as you end up on the side, the favor of the less juicy part gets balanced out allowing it to be an overall, amazing meal. I tried the black bean and rice since I wanted a healthier option than fries and it was delicious! I would've gotten the baked potato like I had before but that is only available after 4pm. The crab cakes were delicious too, however quite pricey. If budget is a consideration, just go for the rib eye! I tried to the Hawaiian before but pineapple with steak just too much for me. I believe there may be a new GM, and if that's the case, the change is showing in the worst way. Jourdan was incredibly unpleasant to deal with and came across as extremely rude. Power-hungry freaks!!! How is this restaurant able to operate under the hands of such discriminatory, rude, unprofessional, ego-centric, manic managers? Honestly, I almost feel bad for them if this is what they need to feel a sense of power. BEWARE - even after waiting hours to be seated, you might never get to eat! I was kicked out for asking why other parties were getting seated before mine. I wouldn't be surprised if the people getting seated before us tipped the hostesses and managers - a commonly known practice here - which is why the manager could not give us an explanation as to why they were refusing service. Always a great place for a birthday dinner. Reservations is a must otherwise you will be waiting for over an hour. It is well worth the wait. The customer service and the management is exceptional and wants to ensure you are 100% happy. When I got my meal it was a little off but still good but not piping hot. I mentioned this to the server and she insisted that they make it right. They were so busy because of the holiday but they made it right. When it came back the prime rib sandwich was exceptionally good. I don't say this unless it's that good. I was very happy and management treated me to a birthday dessert. We went for a late New Year's celebratory dinner with my wife, her sister, and her father. I had prepared for this for weeks--studying the menu and reading reviews. And if you're reading this, please do the community a service and leave a review of your own. First things first: make a reservation. When we arrived at 3:50 p.m. for our 4:00 p.m. reservation on a Saturday, the quoted wait was 1.5 hours--yikes. Fortunately, we didn't actually wait that long, and watching the orchestration at the host stand was fascinating. It's clearly a well-run operation. Once seated, we were promptly greeted by Patrick, our initial server--pleasant and knowledgeable. After we ordered drinks and appetizers (cheese toast, Osaka-style pressed sushi, Thai tuna roll, and the traditional salad), Patrick's shift ended and we were handed off to Niko, who was equally pleasant and knowledgeable. I knew going in that I wanted the filet. My wife and her sister ordered the French dip and the crispy chicken sandwich so they could share. My wife said it was the best French dip she's ever had, and the crispy chicken was excellent as well. My father-in-law ordered the ribs and shared a few with me--outstanding. But let's be honest--this is a steakhouse. The filet was perfectly cooked, lightly seasoned, and exceptional, easily one of the best I've had. It was served with mashed potatoes and broccoli, both done very well. Dessert sealed the deal: hot fudge sundae and walnuts over ice cream--my favorite. So why not five stars? If Yelp allowed for 4.5 stars, that would absolutely be my rating. The only reason for the deduction was the temperature in the dining room. It felt uncomfortably cold--we all kept our jackets on, and I was still trying to keep warm. We mentioned it to Patrick, then to Niko, and eventually to the manager. It took about 30-45 minutes before the temperature was adjusted. To their credit, the managers were kind and attentive, and one came by after dinner to apologize. My recommendation: if you're dining with an older family member or are sensitive to colder temperatures, mention it when making your reservation. And if you notice it once seated, speak up. The staff is responsive, though in our case it took a bit longer than ideal. Fantastic food, excellent service, and a memorable experience--just bring a sweater. read more

I am seriously going to reconsider ever going to Houston's again. We've been going there for years to have the pork chops...such a major foodie disappointment! The sauce gave the pork chops such an edge and finish. It was a GREAT dish to have. Now, with no sauce, it's just pretty pedestrian, something I can make at home. I came here a couple of months ago and had a disappointing experience. Long story short, they couldn't get a medium-rare steak right--it came out severely overcooked. When we mentioned it, there was no apology. They simply took the plate and brought out a replacement, which arrived when my friends were already halfway through their meals. This Christmas, I received two $50 gift cards and wanted to add funds and give them to a friend who lives nearby. Apparently, you can't add funds or even combine gift cards. They didn't try to offer a solution--just a flat "no." They didnt even touch the pos machine to act like theyre trying. We ended up taking our business to Arroyo Chop House instead, which is far better anyway. Unfortunately, this was another poor service experience here. My go to place for business lunches in Pasadena. I typically will make a 11.30 and 1pm rsvp for work client meetings. The staff are attentive and they recognize me as I do this often. Food is tasty. Ok, I was tying to work with them. How about a vodka, Bailey's, Kahlua chocolate syrup cocktail? They don't have Kahlua. OK. How about the same without Kahlua? Well, the bar doesn't have chocolate syrup, it would have to come from the dessert station. Fine. How about just vodka and Bailey's? The manager said they couldn't make it. (I don't know if it was the Asian guy who helped me earlier or the other manager, but one of the managers. I truly believe that a place like this would need more seasoned and mature managers.) At this point we were spending $500+ for 3 people. To refuse to make me a drink when I was really reasonable and was trying to work with them was unbelievable! Ok, how about some dessert wine or port? They don't have any after dinner drinks. Are you kidding? Not one dessert wine or port? How can a semi-upscale restaurant that serves steaks and various desserts not have ANY after dinner drink? It's outrageous and ridiculous. I tried to send a message to their corporate office, but of course, they own hundreds of restaurants and no one will pay attention. You can also only type 1000 characters in your message!!?? Anyhow, they ruined our night. It was my husband's 50th birthday. I am a Restaurant and Wine Manager at an upscale steak restaurant in Los Angeles and I was stunned about the fact that not only they didn't have any after dinner drinks, but they they refused to accommodate my request.
