I popped in last week with my annual craving for their famous Steak and Dianne.....a perfectly Grilled New York Steak alongside a super tasty Salad of Greens, Chicken, Crispy Asian Noodles, Toasted Almonds, Sesame Seeds and their incredible Dianne Dressing. Family owned and operated with recipes that are unique and flavorful. Great sandwiches, salads. Main course specials, and of course their World Famous Zucchini Bread. By the way, the latter is a great housewarming gift that everyone appreciates. When I was there it was a busy Friday on South Lake. I was with friends and decided to take home some food from Green Street. While there were some people in line, and some people at the tables, there was still a place for us to sit in the bar area. It's always fun to show somebody this beautiful restaurant. It's not often you get good food with beautiful unique atmosphere. The smells from the kitchen enticed us as we sat and ordered from the very personable bartender. This is a full bar. They love making specialty drinks. The prices are reasonable considering the quality of their liquors. After looking at the menu as we sipped on our drinks I went to the front desk to place my order. I had some questions that were quickly and thoughtfully answered. I decided on two items. I wanted to see if that barbecue chicken quesadilla was as good as I remembered. And I wanted their chopped green Street salad with chicken. I knew that Zucchini Bread was included with my salad. After a short time, the food was ready and we finished up and paid our tabs and were on the way home. I was amazed at how heavy the bag was considering there were really only two dinners in it. Once home I unpacked the salad, the Barbecue Chicken Quesadilla. The salad dressing and the zucchini bread were carefully wrapped separately. Once home I was surprised at the care that had been taken to prepare both the chicken quesadilla and the salad. They looked table ready from the container. The barbecue chicken quesadilla was as I remembered: authentic Mexican flavors and spices with a barbecued chicken that was moist and tender. I do like that there was plenty of cheese as well. It was packed with a small side of guacamole and sour cream. Perfect for dipping. The Green Street Chopped Salad looked too good to eat. I felt bad transferring it to a large bowl. Everything was fresh, bright, and tasteful. You can tell when everything in the salad is fresh. The bacon is not bacon bits, this is fresh bacon cooked and broken up to add to this salad. The same is true for the chicken, and other ingredients. A great salad to share. I ordered the Green Street dressing and it was a good choice. The zucchini bread was the perfect side for this enjoyable salad. I look forward to going back and trying some of my other favorites. I regularly get together with friends for lunch, and a friend suggested we try this spot near Lake and Cordova. There's a convenient public parking lot right next door, which made arriving a breeze. We got there at 11:30 a.m. to beat the lunch rush, and while the outdoor patio looked absolutely quaint, a heatwave forced us indoors. We were promptly seated in the air-conditioned dining room, and our waiter was incredibly professional and efficient. Two of my friends ordered the famous Dianne Salad, and I opted for the All American Burger--it was absolutely delicious! What I truly appreciated was that even though the restaurant became packed, our waiter gave us plenty of space to enjoy our conversation without ever making us feel rushed. The service was great , Armando A was our server and he was excellent. We sat outside on a beautiful sunny Cali day. It was so nice out . Everyone enjoyed their food . I had a Bloody Mary to start which was delicious. I had the Stephen's chicken sandwich no mushrooms for me but was delicious. We had a good time with my Mom & Dad . In fact, they are so popular that you'll find them available to go along with some of their other popular items. Green street has been family owned since 1979, and I first encountered them at a Food & Wine event when I used to work in the industry. The restaurant is open & airy and the vibe at the bar is welcoming. Of course, that's where you'll find me enjoying a Pear Martini and the Diane Salad (no chicken) with a slice of warm Zucchini Nut Bread. Their house made potato chips with blues cheese dip are bomb! I came to GSR with two colleagues and we had a wonderful time. We made a reservation in advance for lunchtime and were quickly seated upon arrival. The salads here are huge! We each got a salad and def couldn't finish them. I got the Cornucopia without blue cheese and thought it was excellent. However, my friend got the Dianne and I have to admit that was much tastier! Again, the salad portions are huge so be prepared to take some home or, better yet, share it with a friend. The zucchini bread is also very good. It's dense but moist. It comes w butter but I think it's great on its own without butter. I hope to come back again to try something else! My friends love the breakfast menu so maybe I'll try that next time. They never asked how he wanted it cooked, and it arrived rare. He requested crispy fries, but they were regular and had to be sent back. When the burger was returned more cooked, despite asking for no mayo, it came back with mayo again. He ended up not eating the burger and just had some of his wife's salad. Service was okay, but there were too many mistakes. The restroom was also dirty. I informed a staff member, but it was not properly cleaned. Truly an excellent experience for my 87 years young parents who are picky! I made reservations on Mother's Day. I was worried because this was a new to us restaurant and as I stated my parents are REALLY picky. They both loved their meal and even more importantly the service was amazing. EVERY staff member was courteous and observant and VERY helpful. It first started as I was sitting outside waiting for our table. One of the staff members came from inside the restaurant and set up an umbrella to protect my mother and I from the sun which was blaring down. We didn't ask him to do this. He observed us, and did it on his own accord. Next our server was SO accommodating and courteous. He took our orders patiently and gave us all of our options. Our food came out quickly and efficiently and was so delicious. One of the servers who brought us our drinks noticed that my dad was wearing a shirt from Zion National park which sparked a lovely conversation. He showed me his pictures from his trip and I showed him mine from the trip I had just taken. It was just a simple but pleasant interaction. Before we left, my dad asked if we could come back soon. This was my second time visiting Green St. In six years. Both times we sat outside on busy Shoppers Ln. with mature planter box plants sheltering us from the street. While the Diane Salad was pretty much lettuce, almonds, sesame seeds, chicken, and fried/puffed rice noodles, it was all brought together with their Diane Salad, salad dressing. $22.50 for a large, which in 3 days you will never be able to finish so don't order that huge amount. BARF! We ordered the Diane Salad and the Arroyo salad to go, got 1/2 way through my salad and there was a BUG in it. I almost ate it because it looked like a black bean. Great service, hearty breakfast and a nice indoor/outdoor seating area. I stopped by this spot for an early morning meeting after I finished my workout across the street. The food was pretty good and the coffee was decent. There isn't a lot of variety here with most breakfast having the same things but the lunch and dinner menu had more to offer. Breakfast in Pasadena, California... I found out about Green Street Restaurant from my friend, Regis K. He makes food look so delicious from his photos! I just had to have that famous Dianne Salad! Armando was the sole worker. He let me choose my seat in the bright, elegant environment; he took my order; and brought my meal, and later, my bill to me. He paid attention to every customer that morning! When i walked in, I actually told Armando that I wanted a Dianne Salad. He asked me if I wanted a full order or a half. I got a half and wasn't able to finish it - maybe because it came with three complimentary slices of fantastic zucchini bread! The Dianne Salad is light and refreshing. It has high quality sliced chicken, toasted slivered almonds, sesame seeds, bean thread noodles, and a sweet-tangy dressing. I had an extremely disappointing and uncomfortable experience here today. I had actually been looking forward to dining here for years after previously ordering food from this restaurant as a sales rep and remembering how good it was--especially the zucchini bread. Unfortunately, I left feeling completely unwelcome. I sat at the bar because seats were open. Shortly after, I watched the bartender/server check on the couple sitting directly next to me, but she never acknowledged me--not even a hello or "I'll be with you shortly." I didn't realize she was the bartender at the time because she disappeared afterward. After waiting approximately 10-15 minutes without being acknowledged, I asked the host if there was a bartender. He went to find her and returned saying she was busy and would be with me "when she had time." I then waited another 5-10 minutes. During this time, several employees passed through the area. Instead of anyone asking if I had been helped, I repeatedly received looks that made me feel as though I didn't belong there. At one point, I looked up and saw two waitresses standing in the kitchen doorway staring in my direction; when I caught their gaze, they looked away. When the bartender finally came over, I realized she was the same woman who had acknowledged and checked on the couple beside me when I first arrived. As a Black woman, I cannot say what was in anyone's mind, but the combination of being ignored while customers directly beside me were acknowledged, the excessive wait for basic service, and the way I was looked at by staff left me seriously questioning whether my race played a role in how I was treated. I do not make that statement lightly. I became so uncomfortable that I asked for my food to go. The most telling part? **My food came out faster than it took for my server to initially acknowledge me.** I came in excited to finally dine here and left feeling unwelcome. Based on my experience, I would not feel comfortable recommending this restaurant to Black or Brown customers. read more

I was so excited to return to Green Street after four years had passed since my last Pasadena trip. Unfortunately the quality of the Kale Diane, a version of their signature salad, has dropped significantly. Not only was it woefully underdressed, but the solid ratio of greens to rice noodles was warped in favor of the latter. It's not super obvious in the photo but below the top layer there is only an abundance of the noodles with hardly any kale to speak of. Additionally, the rough stems of the kale are left in, adding to to the over-crunchiness of the dish. It is an immense amount of food that felt like a chore to get through. I am grateful they're willing to omit the chicken to make it vegetarian but they brought out a version with chicken at first and had to make me a new one after I pointed out the mistake. With a little extra dressing, it's still solid, but not a destination if you're only in the area for a day. I strongly recommend they review the ratios and make it a salad with noodles instead of noodles with a kale garnish. read more

To start we were served some of their delicious zucchini, bread, which was an absolute hit! It's pre-packaged and available for purchase as you leave - I regret not grabbing a loaf to take home. The menu offers a variety of great options and it wasn't overwhelming. Everyone in my party enjoyed their meal even with range of dietary preferences and needs. The portion here are ginormous- couple of us could've easily shared an entrée. I ordered the Chipotle Lime bowl, and they were very generous with it all. Not to be mistaken with Green Street Cafe, which serves Mediterranean cuisine, Green Street restaurant has been a popular dining retreat for locals for over 45 years. Its signature entree is their Dianne Salad. Watch out for the very high-calorie dressing, though. The zucchini bread, which comes with the salad, is heavenly.
