I regularly get together with friends for lunch, and a friend suggested we try this spot near Lake and Cordova. There's a convenient public parking lot right next door, which made arriving a breeze. We got there at 11:30 a.m. to beat the lunch rush, and while the outdoor patio looked absolutely quaint, a heatwave forced us indoors. We were promptly seated in the air-conditioned dining room, and our waiter was incredibly professional and efficient. Two of my friends ordered the famous Dianne Salad, and I opted for the All American Burger--it was absolutely delicious! What I truly appreciated was that even though the restaurant became packed, our waiter gave us plenty of space to enjoy our conversation without ever making us feel rushed. The service was great , Armando A was our server and he was excellent. We sat outside on a beautiful sunny Cali day. It was so nice out . Everyone enjoyed their food . I came to GSR with two colleagues and we had a wonderful time. We made a reservation in advance for lunchtime and were quickly seated upon arrival. The salads here are huge! We each got a salad and def couldn't finish them. I got the Cornucopia without blue cheese and thought it was excellent. However, my friend got the Dianne and I have to admit that was much tastier! Again, the salad portions are huge so be prepared to take some home or, better yet, share it with a friend. The zucchini bread is also very good. It's dense but moist. It comes w butter but I think it's great on its own without butter. I hope to come back again to try something else! My friends love the breakfast menu so maybe I'll try that next time. Their famous zucchini bread was so good, not too sweet, moist & even better with butter. Their most famous dish is the steak & diane salad. Truly an excellent experience for my 87 years young parents who are picky! I made reservations on Mother's Day. I was worried because this was a new to us restaurant and as I stated my parents are REALLY picky. They both loved their meal and even more importantly the service was amazing. EVERY staff member was courteous and observant and VERY helpful. It first started as I was sitting outside waiting for our table. One of the staff members came from inside the restaurant and set up an umbrella to protect my mother and I from the sun which was blaring down. We didn't ask him to do this. He observed us, and did it on his own accord. Next our server was SO accommodating and courteous. He took our orders patiently and gave us all of our options. Our food came out quickly and efficiently and was so delicious. One of the servers who brought us our drinks noticed that my dad was wearing a shirt from Zion National park which sparked a lovely conversation. He showed me his pictures from his trip and I showed him mine from the trip I had just taken. It was just a simple but pleasant interaction. Before we left, my dad asked if we could come back soon. They never asked how he wanted it cooked, and it arrived rare. He requested crispy fries, but they were regular and had to be sent back. When the burger was returned more cooked, despite asking for no mayo, it came back with mayo again. He ended up not eating the burger and just had some of his wife's salad. Service was okay, but there were too many mistakes. The restroom was also dirty. I informed a staff member, but it was not properly cleaned. This was my second time visiting Green St. In six years. Both times we sat outside on busy Shoppers Ln. with mature planter box plants sheltering us from the street. While the Diane Salad was pretty much lettuce, almonds, sesame seeds, chicken, and fried/puffed rice noodles, it was all brought together with their Diane Salad, salad dressing. $22.50 for a large, which in 3 days you will never be able to finish so don't order that huge amount. I had an extremely disappointing and uncomfortable experience here today. I had actually been looking forward to dining here for years after previously ordering food from this restaurant as a sales rep and remembering how good it was--especially the zucchini bread. Unfortunately, I left feeling completely unwelcome. I sat at the bar because seats were open. Shortly after, I watched the bartender/server check on the couple sitting directly next to me, but she never acknowledged me--not even a hello or "I'll be with you shortly." I didn't realize she was the bartender at the time because she disappeared afterward. After waiting approximately 10-15 minutes without being acknowledged, I asked the host if there was a bartender. He went to find her and returned saying she was busy and would be with me "when she had time." I then waited another 5-10 minutes. During this time, several employees passed through the area. Instead of anyone asking if I had been helped, I repeatedly received looks that made me feel as though I didn't belong there. At one point, I looked up and saw two waitresses standing in the kitchen doorway staring in my direction; when I caught their gaze, they looked away. When the bartender finally came over, I realized she was the same woman who had acknowledged and checked on the couple beside me when I first arrived. As a Black woman, I cannot say what was in anyone's mind, but the combination of being ignored while customers directly beside me were acknowledged, the excessive wait for basic service, and the way I was looked at by staff left me seriously questioning whether my race played a role in how I was treated. I do not make that statement lightly. I became so uncomfortable that I asked for my food to go. The most telling part? **My food came out faster than it took for my server to initially acknowledge me.** I came in excited to finally dine here and left feeling unwelcome. Based on my experience, I would not feel comfortable recommending this restaurant to Black or Brown customers. read more

The food was pretty good and the coffee was decent. There isn't a lot of variety here with most breakfast having the same things but the lunch and dinner menu had more to offer. Each breakfast comes with a zucchini bread instead of traditional toast but don't fret you can substitute it for toast if you wish. Breakfast in Pasadena, California... I found out about Green Street Restaurant from my friend, Regis K. He makes food look so delicious from his photos! I just had to have that famous Dianne Salad! Armando was the sole worker. He let me choose my seat in the bright, elegant environment; he took my order; and brought my meal, and later, my bill to me. He paid attention to every customer that morning! When i walked in, I actually told Armando that I wanted a Dianne Salad. He asked me if I wanted a full order or a half. I got a half and wasn't able to finish it - maybe because it came with three complimentary slices of fantastic zucchini bread! The Dianne Salad is light and refreshing. It has high quality sliced chicken, toasted slivered almonds, sesame seeds, bean thread noodles, and a sweet-tangy dressing. I was so excited to return to Green Street after four years had passed since my last Pasadena trip. Unfortunately the quality of the Kale Diane, a version of their signature salad, has dropped significantly. Not only was it woefully underdressed, but the solid ratio of greens to rice noodles was warped in favor of the latter. It's not super obvious in the photo but below the top layer there is only an abundance of the noodles with hardly any kale to speak of. Additionally, the rough stems of the kale are left in, adding to to the over-crunchiness of the dish. It is an immense amount of food that felt like a chore to get through. I am grateful they're willing to omit the chicken to make it vegetarian but they brought out a version with chicken at first and had to make me a new one after I pointed out the mistake. With a little extra dressing, it's still solid, but not a destination if you're only in the area for a day. I strongly recommend they review the ratios and make it a salad with noodles instead of noodles with a kale garnish. read more

The portion here are ginormous- couple of us could've easily shared an entrée. I ordered the Chipotle Lime bowl, and they were very generous with it all. Not to be mistaken with Green Street Cafe, which serves Mediterranean cuisine, Green Street restaurant has been a popular dining retreat for locals for over 45 years. Its signature entree is their Dianne Salad. Watch out for the very high-calorie dressing, though. The zucchini bread, which comes with the salad, is heavenly. Everything was chopped super fine so you get a little bit of everything in each bite, crispy strips, tender chicken, fresh greens. The shrimp tacos were solid too, the shrimp had good flavor and the tortillas were soft, but there was definitely a LOT of cabbage piled on top.
