Our server Mikala was unbelievably rude and we are nothing but friendly down to earth people her vibe was almost as bad as the food but before all of that I witnessed an employee pick there nose and wipe it on there shirt (this is during covid) we were going to leave right than but we felt bad as we like supporting smaller businesses so we ordered some food after an hour wait the food finally arrived and it was COLD!! We were in Solvang for two nights, and ended up at Fitzpatrick's for both dinners. The first night we found this place after walking out of another, "fancier" place where we were ignored too long. What a difference! The servers at Fitzpatrick's were literally running and bending over backwards to meet our desires. We appreciate the friendly, family-run feel of the place, not to mention the tasty selection of Irish beer. But the food is what brought us back the following evening! We both enjoyed their signature corn chowder in a sourdough bread bowl (something in which we rarely indulge, but hey, we were on vacation). So good! The next night we split the Dubliner burger (we added avocado to the burger) with onion rings on the side. OMG, what a burger! We were glad we'd split! And the onion rings were out of this world. The weather was 111, and Robert made us forget how unbearable it was! He was so accommodating with my baby (brought her a nice cold towel) and was constantly checking on her to make sure she was ok! We came on Memorial Day Monday and everybody in my party was satisfied with their food. It wasn't too long of a wait. The day we went they were behind on orders so we didn't get a table right away, but it was sooo worth the wait. I recommend the corn chowder bread bowl, chefs kiss. My husband had the Irish nachos and spicy wings, both also delicious. Reuben sandwich, my dad said, and I quote, "that was probably the best Reuben sandwich I've ever had." This has been one of the worst dining experiences I have had in a long time. First off, we waited an hour to receive our food. There was only five other tables maybe, which is why I was confused why it took so long. The fish tacos were awful, the fish in the fish and chips was okay but the chips were terrible, and the salad was okay at best. I know that waiters and waitresses are working hard during COVID-19, but the service was terrible. While looking at the menu, we asked both waiters (one of them being the owner) helping us what kind of veggie burger they were offering and neither of them knew. One of them offered to ask, but the owner did not. Furthermore, the waiter had no knowledge of what dressing came with the cobb salad; both vinaigrettes were super oily and eventually just asked for ranch. The owner failed to ask us how our food was and never apologized for the long wait. It kills me to leave bad reviews but our experience was just horrible. The table next to us asked if they could cancel their order because it was taking so long and the owner was extremely rude and argumentative with them. Two stars for the food (pot pie was good; poutine was okay if you like steak fries, "barely there" gravy and "not" curds; bread pudding was passable) and drink (which came to the table with a dead bee in it - the waitress asked if she should just "flick" the bee out of my drink or did I want a fresh drink) - I asked for fresh drink. As for the service-let me say I'm a very understanding person. I've been in customer service and these are tough times. But when repeatedly ignored after food was dropped off (waitress check on us once) even though the table was right by the register and kitchen she walked pasted us at least a dozen times after we had finished eating (we were the only table left inside) without even looking at us. I had to practically jump in front of her and force her to take my credit card, which she promptly pawned off onto the other waitress who had no clue what to do with it. Clearly they were busy with customers on the outside and confused -again, all understandable. What is unacceptable is her lack of empathy when I explained we had been waiting and trying to get her attention to bring our check for 20+ minutes. She then nearly overlooked us again when she handed my credit card off to the other waitress who set it down on the register and walk away. When she finally gave me my bill she again was unapologetic and was instead giving excuses about being busy. Amazing how far a simple, genuine apology can go to getting a better review. LOVED the corn chowder! I always ask for chowders separate from the bread wherever I go because I hate it when the bread gets all soggy. Today was no exception except it was!! OMG! When my chowder arrived, I noticed it looked different-TOASTED!I've NEVER had the bread bowl toasted and it was awesome!!!! The bread wasn't too thick like those sourdough bread bowls. It's a light crispy bowl and the bread wasn't too thick which was good. The chowder is so flavorful and full of a delicate veggie mix with the corn. So yum! Def get this!! Kids loved the wings and fries and hubby loved the fish and chips-said it was better than a lot of places because the fish wasn't over-breaded. So this is really disappointing because I've been to this place before and I've always had a great time and enjoyed going and every time I come into town I look forward to coming there however this is not the first time I've had a problem with the owner Sam! Every time I go there and he's there which is most every time he is very cocky, has an attitude, he talks too fast, doesn't really care about the customers only wants to turn tables! This time was completely abusive and horrible and I don't even know how to describe what happened yesterday. I ordered a Mimosa, my friend ordered a root beer, we got the nachos and when we were done with the nachos we wanted to get bread pudding because we heard the owner speaking about it to another table and it sounded delicious. As he brings my bread putting out he goes out of his way to lean into each and every table that he walks passed on his way to me and says to them, look this is our bread pudding just so you know what it looks like if you wanna order it! Now no one had masks on of course because they are eating so no big deal but obviously there were a bunch of germs on my dessert from him doing that so when he got to me I simply told him that I cannot accept that dessert because of what he did and I explained that! I was very calm and when I called Today to get his name he was actually the one who answered the phone he instantly said is this Tiffany and started attacking me yet again, he accused me of drinking too much yesterday and yelling at him both of which never happened! I had him on speaker phone so I have witnesses again this time as well as last time! The abuse I speak of is that his regulars who he claims aren't but it's obvious they are didn't like that I sent the desert back and they started cussing me out very bad yelling and screaming at me! The second part was the owner Sam threw my check at me and then when he was done running my card he threw it again at me! When I spoke with him earlier today he would not let me get one word in, so good luck ever trying to get anywhere with this guy! PS I am pretty sure this guy is going to try and comment on my review and try to make himself look like he's the good guy and I'm the one who's in the wrong but if anybody would like any proof of any of this I have plenty and I am more than willing make that clear! My friend who was with me yesterday as well as the people who witnessed our phone call today would be happy to share with you what happened! Dine with caution the owner will throw things at you if you don't like something! The burgers (meaning the patty) themselves were yummy and cooked as ordered (med rare) but if you are going to boast about a local brioche bun in a town like Solvang that's known for their bakeries you better griddle that bun until bronze! The bun was cold and was soggy, since it didn't get a proper toast, it soaked all condiments and juices in and ruined the whole burger. I was starving, so I ate it and we were with friends who were burger lovers so I was sorely disappointed. We are local too. The service was kind but stretched. One guy on a busy football Sunday.
