    Fries and pea soup
    Ryan H.

We only stopped by for a quick snack and we just got some fries which were super crunchy and abnormally tasty. They were for the kids. We figured we would get a pea soup because they were under 10 bucks and it's definitely the best pea soup I've ever had or equivalent to the best I've ever had!!! they had a full house because there is a tour bus that brought a bunch of people so we sat outside and the lady still came to us really quickly and it' was very quiet and relaxing and a nice spot for our kids to make a ruckus.

Prepare to wait for at least 2 hours if you come here. Tables are sticky and chairs are equally as dirty. Sodas have absolutely no taste, it's all carbonation and food seems to be a bit overpriced which is expected for a tourist attraction.

    Gravy over the potatoes

Hard to review this restaurant because I really only ordered ice tea, but I had a taste of the Caesar salad and the mashed potatoes from my friend's plate. The salad was good but the mashed potatoes and gravy had no flavor whatsoever. The staff was nice enough and checked on us a couple of times. Probably wouldn't recommend, but maybe it's just not to my taste.

Pleasantly surprised. I love the herring platers. So good. The staff was amazing. The food was good. I definitely trying the local favorites. Ambiance was so chill.

The meal was average. We came for the experience and to try something new. I liked the presentation and how generous they were with the sauce. No complaints about service and there was plenty of places to sit.

Vanderghinste sour ale and einstock white ale on tap! Best Bartender ever!

So Bartender here was seriously one of the nicest bartenders we've had in all Solvang. I got the potato pancakes which were actually have to be sent her a little dry but we want them with the applesauce and sour cream. We got the splits P soup which was delicious. The bar is like old fashion just like everything else in Solvang. That beer I got to try was a Belgian sour which was absolutely delicious I was totally in love with it my husband got I einstock whiteale which was delicious as well! The bartender was so sweet she cleared our plates and we were done she asks how are you doing and she was working the entire restaurant at the same time and never once faltered in our service and out dining experience!

We had a good time here, they are very nice and attentive. Food came out perfect. This location was convenient and clean

This is a picture of the beers that they supposedly "serve".

The reason I gave this restaurant a 2-star review was because of the long time that they took to just take our drink order. Another reason was that my family when we received our food on 5/8 got the daily soup which was clam chowder soup. When we had a taste for the soup it was cold and after our waitress took our plates back to be reheated it still took them another 10 minutes which made us impatient. Now 2/8 of us got some pasta and when trying the pasta, some parts of it were cold so they most likely use a microwave for most of their food or even all of it. Just so you know, if you want beer, don't come here! THERE IS NONE!!! The picture I have entered shows that they don't even have a beer since there are cups on the taps. Another thing is that if you're at a table and you order a beer, you won't see it just like how they don't serve it. My uncle was extremely disappointed about that.

    Biksemad

Nice little place, tucked away in a a corner. Good ambiance and cute little patio! Service is a little slow or at least it was when we went but it was also one of the least packed restaurants. I think it's not as boujee as other places but it's cute and nowhere near as busy. I had the biksemad and it was delicious. The food isn't anything fancy but it was cooked great and was very flavorful. Not sure if people are expecting some fine dining but the price reflects the plates and I really enjoyed it. If you want to avoid the crowd and eat some good meat and potatoes food, stop by!

Food is decent service is a little rough. The staff needs more help. Be patient if you plan on dining here.

    The restaurant/Bar and no beer
    Eddie D.

Quite disappointed. We walked into this bar restaurant and all the bar caps have cups on them. All they have is like corona in a bottle and Modelo. They even have an 805 sign on the wall. They don't sell 805. First, it took a while for them to even acknowledge us and get her drink order Then five out of eight order soups, and the soups are all cold. We ordered clam chowder and the clam chowder was very watery. It was like eating milk. They took it back took over 10 minutes for us to get back warm. The food wasn't that impressive. It was like Chef Boyardee. You have been warned.

Sorry in advance for the lengthy review. All around very unsatisfactory experience. Firstly, my family and I (5 of us) came in to the restaurant to be seated and the person who was supposed to seat us was eating behind the register. Secondly, the food here was a disappointment compared to the price. The food on my plate was basically warm on the outside but cold on the inside but I couldn't tell until I had already eaten a few bites. Even Ikea has better quality food and portion sizes than this for their cost. Thirdly, the service was basically nonexistent here, someone checked on our table twice the entire time we were there (over an hour). When the waitress took our order she didn't even read it back to us to check and when our food came there was an extra plate of food that none of us ordered but we were charged for. We ate it anyways because we didn't want it to go to waste as they would've just thrown it away. Lastly, and the most important, they charged us $26 more than what our bill was because they "added the tip." On their menu it clearly states they add tip for 6 or more people, we had 5, so no automatic tip should've been added. Plus we had already put a tip number down on our receipt. We called them and they blamed it on the fact that they were "training someone." There are WAY better restaurants in Solvang that are 10x better than this place.

Out of the 3 bartenders working, only one (a really knowledgeable guy that did his homework about the food and beer) was reliable. They have two bars and this woman at the larger bar took forever to serve us and it wasn't busy at all. When we got to her counter, she seemed annoyed and said that the Amber Beer we wanted wasn't served at her bar and we had to go to the smaller one down the walkway (the Amber was on her menu board, by the way). We got to the smaller bar where the smart guy was and he said he could get us the drink but needed to go to the larger bar we just came from because that's where the tap is. We told him what the woman said and he just shook his head and apologized. This adventure alone took a good 25 minutes. Next up, the food. We saw a sausage combo plate that a young female waitress was carrying and asked if they were different sausages, her reply was "No, All three are the same". We asked the only bartender we could trust and he said they were all different and described in detail what they were a the flavor profile. I thought the ambiance was nice and Danish but the beer and the combo plate was just ok. The owners need to do some remedial training with the staff and teach them how to not only speak with customers but to know what they are serving and where to get it. No pics necessary, but I'd love to go back and allow them to do it again and I will improve my review.

In fact, I professionally moonlight as Historian specializing in medieval English history! This means that I am a sucker for anything reminding of the time period; making the Santa Barbara-adjacent Danish city of Solvang right up my alley with its medieval storybook streets/architecture. Among the many spots in Solvang that make my heart go pitter-patter is The Good Life: a cellar wine/ale/tavern- bar. Grab your favorite wench and come along to grab a pint... Stroll down Mission Drive in the famous Danish city of Solvang and you will be delighted to venture upon The Good Life that appears to pop out of a medieval history book with exposed wooden beans, plaster exterior walls and an entrance that resides at basement level (they don't call it a cellar bar for nothing!). Owned by a husband-wife team with extensive hospitality and restaurant experience under their belts in 2012; the charm of The Good Life is instantaneous and perfect for a gal like me obsessed with this sort of thing. Prepare to be instantly transported into the 15th century! Once you cross the threshold of The Good Life, the Shakesperean feel continues but is also modernized with a glowing fireplace, plush arm chairs and high bar tables (plus bar seating) and floor to ceiling wine racks. The Good Life is a perfect ratio of Solvang tradition with hints of romance making it ideal for a casual beverage, tourist pop-in or memorable date night drink. The latter is exactly how my boyfriend and I happened to come across The Good Life as we were visiting Solvang from Los Angeles for the city's Christmas-time Julefest. We had just spent the evening making holiday memories among the city's Christmas trees, twinkling lights and sugary delights. Post Danish-dinner, we decided to wrap up our forever-Solvang memory with a drink at The Good Life. We were immediately greeted by the male manning The Good Life without any attitude or distaste towards us for coming in as he was preparing to close for the evening. If he was upset with us in any way - he certainly didn't show it! The Good Life features an amazing menu of local and international wines, beers, ales, meads, ciders, and ports that make The Good Life feel fancy-schmancy and artisan; but also, neighborhood friendly for your favorite hipster or friend next door. My boyfriend and I shared a cider (I wish I remembered the specific one but alas my memory evades me) while enjoying the atmosphere of warmth at The Good Life. Other customers sat in the plush chairs with notepads and tarot cards, an older couple arrived to cap off the evening and I enjoyed the view of my boyfriend in a medieval-Danish inspired cellar bar. The Good Life is standout at accommodating to all customers and making sure no one feels out of place. A bountiful tip as important as the bosom of a medieval bar wench: the bathroom at The Good Life is labeled as 'Office'. Don't worry, you won't walk in on someone preparing accounting books and the only business happening behind this door involves you and your private matters. The Good Life is delightful and unique but doesn't just stop there: it also differentiates itself with a truly impressive alcohol selection that allows you to be introduced to local, national, Danish and international bevies you have surely not tried prior. The Good Life is recommended for a drink on your next trip to the tourist-friendly city of Solvang. Even if you aren't pretending to be in medieval times...

To Christian's credit, he did apologize when he arrived, but throughout dinner the service continued to fall short. He would stop by asking if everything was okay while our cups sat empty, then walk away without offering refills. We had to specifically ask for water and drink refills. At the end of the meal, we also weren't asked about dessert or whether we needed anything else. We had to ask for the check and he pulled out of his vest. That said, the restaurant itself has a great atmosphere. The outdoor seating is beautiful, especially the built-in fireplaces at the tables, which we really enjoyed.
