This review is a long overdue, but I wanted to make sure I left it. I stopped in here for lunch with my husband and in-laws on our way out of Solvang a month or so ago. We had the nachos (they were bomb and massive, highly recommend). We had done a bit of shopping and I hung my bag with a precious Hans Christian Anderson book of fairy tales I bought at the local bookstore over my chair. Well, to my dismay, I made it back home to Glendale and discovered I did not have my bag with me. I must add that at this point I was about 6 months pregnant and very emotional. I bought this book to read to my daughter after she's born, so it was just really hard for me. We called to ask about the book and spoke to Chuck, one of the managers, who told us they had it. I fully expected to call, learn they had it, and be told I could come pick it up or something, but no--he took it to UPS the next day they were open and shipped it to me. This level of customer service is so refreshing in a day when everyone seems to be in it for themselves. Chuck went above and beyond to ensure I received this book (didn't know I was pregnant, so that couldn't have swayed him). There was plenty of seating, even in the cool evening weather, making it a nice place to relax after a long drive. The food was good, and the drinks definitely hit the spot. One thing to know is that everything is ordered at the walk-up window rather than through table service. During our visit, the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed. A few of our orders were mixed up, our food came out at different times, and two bussers accidentally cleared plates that we were still eating from. To the restaurant's credit, they quickly apologized and replaced the food without any issue, which we appreciated. While the service hiccups were an inconvenience, the staff handled the situation professionally. You need to get the tri-tip add-on on the large baked potato. The value here is insane -- the portion is huge, hearty, cheesy, and exactly as satisfying as it sounds. It was so good we came back the next day just to order it again. The tri-tip was flavorful and generous, making this one of the most filling items in town. The tomato soup was another standout: creamy, well-seasoned, and comforting without being heavy. We also tried the sausage platter. I enjoyed it overall (especially if you're a sausage fan), though the sausages themselves didn't particularly stand out. Arrived in Solvang during lunch time. Wanted to celebrate getting a parking spot during Julefest :D Saw that the brewing company had some tables available. Quickly grabbed a table and ordered a few things. I was lucky because as soon as I got back to the table, the line to order extended onto the sidewalk. Food was delivered fairly quickly. I'm not a fan of a bad review and try to look at the highlights but this brewery was caught slipping. 5 employees on deck. Out of the 3 bartenders working, only one (a really knowledgeable guy that did his homework about the food and beer) was reliable. They have two bars and this woman at the larger bar took forever to serve us and it wasn't busy at all. When we got to her counter, she seemed annoyed and said that the Amber Beer we wanted wasn't served at her bar and we had to go to the smaller one down the walkway (the Amber was on her menu board, by the way). We got to the smaller bar where the smart guy was and he said he could get us the drink but needed to go to the larger bar we just came from because that's where the tap is. We told him what the woman said and he just shook his head and apologized. This adventure alone took a good 25 minutes. Next up, the food. We saw a sausage combo plate that a young female waitress was carrying and asked if they were different sausages, her reply was "No, All three are the same". We asked the only bartender we could trust and he said they were all different and described in detail what they were a the flavor profile. I thought the ambiance was nice and Danish but the beer and the combo plate was just ok. The owners need to do some remedial training with the staff and teach them how to not only speak with customers but to know what they are serving and where to get it. The nice touch here is they have a great Beer Garden for a ton of outside seating. We started with Onion Rings and Mozzarella strips. Both were very tasty but I have to say the mozzarella sticks were gooey and perfect. We decided to go light with lunch after the appetizers and had the Southwestern Chicken salad. The beer was good, and the service was decent, though they messed up my order and I had to wait for my food. All three of us got the bratwurst plate. The brats were decent, though not like the ones my wife from Wisconsin makes :-) The bread was odd though. It was way too chewy and rubbery than it should've been. Great lunch at Solvang Brewing Company, on a Wednesday afternoon. Food was excellent. The kids loved the chicken tenders. Fries were super yummy. Wings and wedge salad were also good. The drinks were average. The margarita my mom ordered was watery, not very good. The IPA and strawberry martini drink were okay. The atmosphere was laid back and the seating/ordering was easy. Service was friendly, but it was busy so we had to wait about 10 minutes in line to order. Watch out for the automatic 18% tip for parties of 6+ on your bill. They did not ask for our party size, and probably added it based on our food order. We were actually a party of five. I had to stop my aunt from giving an additional tip. We chose outside because the weather was perfect. We got a sausage sampler and 12 wings with 2 flavors. The sausage sampler was delicious with 3 types of sausage, 2 pieces of pretzel, sauerkraut, pickled red onion, some gherkins, and 2 sauces. The sausages were all delicious, but not super hot just warm enough. The spicy one was my fave. The sides were all good and we pretty much ate all of it. The sauces were good, one was a very spicy brown mustard, the other I THINK was a honey mustard. The wings were okay. They were cooked well and had a decent crunch, they also had a good amount of meat. We got half Buffalo and half Alabama White bbq. The bbq were drenched in sauce, too much in my opinion. It made the wings soggy and could barely taste the chicken. I'm not usually a fan of Buffalo sauce but the rub they put on the wings before the sauce made them very tasty. The big open air seating with the windmill above us was fun and the indoor area was very spacious and had a classic pub feel.
