During a wine tasting we were talking about how busy all the Solvang restaurants were at breakfast and the lady running the tasting recommended this spot. Location wise it wasn't far at all from the "main drag" in Solvang but vibe wise it was worlds away - peaceful and beautiful and no crowds! The rustically designed restaurant is on a golf course and has lovely views. Service was fast, friendly and helpful. My French Toast was delicious. The following morning I didn't feel like I needed a big breakfast but everyone else in our group returned!

Absolutely loved this place. Our server was fantastic and attentive, the views were lovely, and the cheeseburger was amazing. They split it for us perfectly, and when we couldn't decide between fries and onion rings the server offered to do half of each. Fantastic service and great food--highly recommend.

It was pouring when we arrived for breakfast but we felt so welcomed when we walked in that the weather outside didn't matter anymore. Our server was so nice and friendly and the restaurant was fully decked out with wonderfully festive Christmas decorations too! I got the veggie omelette with hash browns and a fruit cup and he got the Alisal breakfast burrito w fruit cup. Everything was delicious and the portions were quite generous too so one of us took the leftovers to go. We needed it to be a very short and quick visit so we truly appreciated their fast and efficient service. The next time we're in the area, I definitely want to go back to enjoy outdoor dining on their patio if the weather cooperates with our next trip. I hope you consider paying them a visit! Your tummy and heart will smile with satisfaction!

Our group went to breakfast at the River Grill at the Alisal based on a recommendation of a local resident. We were not disappointed. The golf course views are amazing and my breakfast was delicious. Our server was very courteous and our meals were delivered in a timely manner. Highly recommend!!!

The beautiful setting here on the golf course really is relaxing after a hectic drive through downtown Solvang. It is probably one of the main attractions of this grill. We came on an overcast, rainy day in the middle of the week for my husband's birthday and sat inside for the first time. We got a window table with the same great view that you get outside. The overcast skies didn't dampen our spirits, and we ordered right away from the menu. I got my favorite Southwestern salad, that comes with a little cornbread muffin, and my husband got a burger with onion rings. The service was very friendly and welcoming, and the place was not too crowded. We have always had to wait for a table when we arrive on a weekend. The food came out quickly. I really enjoy the southwestern flavors of the substantial salad, with a mildly spicy dressing on the side. My husband's burger was amply well done, and he devoured it. We had a good time watching the clouds scud across the sky, bringing their promise of rain.

Food was good our salad was fresh and the steak was seasoned and cooked well, the vaquero burger with fries was delicious! We also ordered a mimosa which we weren't a fan of because it was missing a little bit of orange juice too strong for a mimosa. The place overall was clean and the restroom was very put together. Our server was very attentive, helpful and kind. This restaurant is dog friendly at the outdoor area which we enjoyed with the beautiful and relaxing scenery. The con we had was that the wait time was a little too long and the umbrellas were too close and not placed well with the tables and seating, we experienced someone's table get knocked from it and glass shattered over a customer which is a safety issue they can fix. Definitely worth trying their food we had a good time

Came to the River Grill for the last day of restaurant week! My mom and I had been checking out the River Grill for restaurant week since before it began but didn't make it until the last day. The River Grill itself is very nice! Lots of windows to let in natural light with a view that overlooks the hills and golf course. We were brought some water not long after being seated and had our order taken. On this day, my mom and I decided to split our order! To start, we got the Harvest Salad. It had plenty of toppings that created a variety of flavors and textures that surprisingly made for a somewhat unique salad experience. It was very delicious. For the main course, my mom and I opted for the Chipotle Chicken Sandwich. Since I don't eat red meat, I asked if the bacon could be put on the side and they kindly accommodated the request. Honestly the sandwich was sooooo good! I'm definitely a sandwich enthusiast and this one hit every mark for me. The bread was warm and toasted, the chicken was still steaming from being so fresh out of the kitchen, and there was a perfect ratio of all of the toppings to create a perfect sandwich moment. I got the sauce all over my hands in my enthusiasm for consuming it. For dessert, a Smores Brownie Sundae was the finisher. It was very delicious! My mom is very hit or miss with desserts, since she doesn't like overly sweet things, but agreed that this one was perfect! The marshmallow was toasted and gooey, the brownie was fudgey, and the cold vanilla ice cream perfectly brought everything together. Overall, I had a really good experience at the River Grill. Would definitely be more than happy to come back.

    Cold breakfast

Service was with a smile, but the food was cold. The hash browns and bacon had the taste of old grease. Toast was not toasted and cold. The fruit cup had sour pineapple in it. The only good thing were the poached eggs. Perfectly cooked, but again Cold! Not for me. The price was too much for cold bad tasting food. Looks are deceiving.

The restaurant is located at the golf course with the proshop. Marked River Grill over the doorway outside. I went for breakfast one morning recently and sat at the bar. The service was professional and friendly. Coffee with eggs over medium, with bacon, wheat toast and hash browns. A standard of most American breakfast eateries. The eggs cooked properly, with just a little bit of soft york. The bacon was good and the hash browns grilled nicely. Its toast, it wasnt burned and served its purpose. 3.5 Stars - rounded up 00842

    Golfer's Special
    Thalia R.

Arrived at 9 AM and it was pretty empty. By the time we left it was pretty busy with people sitting outside as well. Service was great! The Golfer's Special was a filling breakfast having both pancakes for something sweet and the standard egg/sausage/hashbrown. This is a good spot if you're wanting a more calmer early breakfast and if you're there early enough you won't have to wait for a table.

Eggs Benedict with broken hollandaise sauce and tough Canadian bacon
    Cristina R.

I visited on 12/21/24. We usually dine at Paulas Pancakes but their waitlist was closed. This place was recommend by a local store owner he frequents this establishmentand & his daughter got married here. With such high praise we were really excited to try this place out. I was disappointed when I received my eggs benedict with a broken hollandaise sauce. Unfortunately it gave my meal a grainy texture on top of that the Canadian bacon was burnt and tough. My husband ordered a sandwich his mean taste fine. The view was beautiful. The service was really slow. We didn't get offered refills and had to chase down the waitress for our bill after waiting so long after our meal.

We arrived a little bit early to our reservation, and even though the restaurant was only about 20% full, we waited for about 10 minutes for someone to check us in. We were seated at the high top tables. We started off with the Roasted Cauliflower with miso white bean puree, arugula, chimichurri, and pecorino panko crumbs. The dish comes with large florets of cauliflower, so we had to cut it up into smaller pieces. For my entree, I got the Local Miso Black Cod with spinach, sesame dressing, and miso butter. The fish was moist and flakey. I enjoyed it! I also tried the New Zealand Rack of Lamb that had asparagus ratatouille, crispy potatoes, and lamb jus. This dish was not bad, but the portion seemed a bit small for the price.

I'd Gather Not One…read moreof Solvang's newest restaurants isn't known for its æbleskivers or Danishes, but rather for French-Asian fusion, and is led by Indonesian-born head chef and co-owner, Budi Kazali. They promise to bring you bold flavors using fresh seasonal ingredients in an elegant but approachable space. The Good: * Reservations via OpenTable™ * Free street and city lot parking nearby. * Dog-friendly outdoor dining * Right on the downtown strip in Solvang, next to our favorite bakery. * Nasi Goreng (Indonesian Fried Rice) was delicious and hit all the right notes. The fried chicken add-on was a different story, though... See below. * Caesar Salad had a delicious flavor, but Carissa found the salad to be a bit overdressed for her liking. I didn't mind it, but I like an obscene amount of dressing on my salads, so go figure? Salmon was a little undercooked for her liking, but again, I wouldn't mind it a bit pink. So, comme ci, comme ça. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The Meh: * Not all the outdoor spaces are shaded/covered. * Prices are a bit absurd for certain items. Yeah, I know it's über-touristy Solvang, but jfc. $12-14 for a beer? And don't get me started on $12 for some of the blandest and most minuscule serving of fried chicken ever. * We arrived ten minutes early for our reservation, and the hostess seemed very annoyed that we were. In fact, she made us wait until it was time for our reservation to the very minute--despite the restaurant being at less than 10% capacity. * Service wasn't horrible, but I wouldn't say it was good, either. More on this below. The Ugly: * I ordered the Hazy IPA they had on tap, and when it arrived, I could tell it wasn't a particularly "hazy" Hazy IPA. But I figured some are better than others. For my second drink, I asked for the Clown Shoes IPA they had in a can. When the waitress returned with it, she admitted that the first beer she'd brought me was actually the same Clown Shoes IPA. Apparently, they'd run out of the Hazy IPA and decided to make the substitution without asking me. It's not a huge deal--I probably would have made the same substitution myself--but I definitely wouldn't have ordered a second one if I'd known it was the only IPA they had in-house. Like I said, it's not the end of the world, but for some reason, it just feels a little devious. Would they have made a substitution without asking a wine connoisseur? I would hope not, but now it kind of makes you wonder. Conclusion: Not a great experience here, from the hostess to the waitress to the food. I wish them luck.

It is, in our opinion, the best restaurant in Solvang. Every meal was exceptional, and the service was consistently outstanding. At our first breakfast, Taylor provided friendly, attentive service that set the tone for the rest of our visits. That evening, we enjoyed the cauliflower appetizer, beet & burrata salad, short rib grilled cheese and black tie burger. Every dish was absolutely delicious. This place is non-descript yet just off the main park downtown, and an easy walk from most of the major hotels in town, or the central parking lot - plus lots of street parking as well. It seems rather small, with one area for bar seating and small tables, plus a larger dining area "next door" to the bar, but I like the bar ambiance, so it may be challenging on busy tourist days. Luckily, I travel on non-busy days and have always had a good seat. The ambiance is great, with a typical, colorfully decorated pub feel with TVs offering an invitation to relax and have a pint - or two! The menu is varied, and I had planned for what I wanted, but when the server/bartender/boss offered the daily special as an option, I quickly jumped at the chance. The special was a queso dip with house-made chips, and I had to try it! Sadly, I also ordered my usual, the Cobb salad. Sadly, because after the "appetizer" arrived, I quickly realized the full consequences of the saying "your eyes are bigger than your stomach!" The dip and chips were plentiful in both, and for me would have made a great meal on their own. But I was committed and managed to finish the salad. On my previous visit, I had the mac 'n cheese and the Cobb salad, along with a Guinness dark! That was sooo tasty as well! The food at this visit was great, and the service was as well. Sam, who is the owner, bartender, server, and jack-of-all-trades, is always friendly, professional, and efficient, no matter how busy it is, and this visit was the only one outside the kitchen. If you're in the area, give them a try! And leave room for dessert - I have yet to do that, but you can learn from my mistakes!

The spicy wings had great flavor--more on the spicy side than "hot," which honestly made them even better and more enjoyable. The Reuben with onion rings was done right--classic, satisfying, and the onion rings were perfectly cooked with a great crisp. The bread on the sandwich had the perfect crisp as well, which really brought it all together. And the standout was the spicy melt burger. My friend ordered it medium rare, and it came out perfectly medium rare--juicy, flavorful, and cooked exactly as requested (which doesn't always happen, so that's worth noting). Everything was executed really well, and you can tell they take pride in the kitchen. Easy 5 stars. Would definitely come back.

I hadn't tried aebleskiver before so I have no point of comparison, but it was a little ball of dough with jam and powdered sugar. I ordered 3 which was plenty to split with my boyfriend just to get a taste of it. It's personally not my favorite since I think I would prefer a slightly crispier fried dough ball but I'm guessing that would be less authentic. I was glad to try it out so easily! The service was quick. It would have been nice if there were some seating outside--there were 2 benches, but it was pretty limited. It made a lot of sense why everyone was walking around with it!

They have a quick service walk-up window where you can order Æbleskiver, Danish pork sausage, and some drinks, but it opens a little than the restaurant. Since the window wasn't open yet when we got there, we went inside to order the Æbleskiver at the counter. An order comes with three balls with raspberry jam and powdered sugar. If you order it to-go, it comes in a little paper boat. The Æbleskiver have a pancake-like texture, and the jam and powdered sugar give it a nice sweetness. I just wish there was a little more jam to go with it! Fun to try, and I liked that an order comes with just three pieces, so it's just enough to sample!

Since we used to own and run a small business ourselves, we know exactly what that feels like. Despite being shorthanded, the owners were extremely professional and provided excellent service--you would have never known they were understaffed. We ordered the French Toast and the Crunchy French Toast, and both were perfect. The dishes featured delicious, buttery brioche served with cinnamon butter and syrup. We also loved their coffee cups so much that we bought one to take home! If you ever find yourself in Solvang, make it a point to go here for an amazing breakfast.

We had the protein bowl, the pancake combo with Danish pancakes, the Monte Cristo, and the flaky toast. Keep in mind, this was for only two and a half people, and we still had plenty left to take home because the portions are generous. The Monte Cristo was probably the best I've ever had. The flaky toast was incredible and had me wishing I had room for another order. The Danish pancakes were also excellent and definitely worth trying. Another big plus was how family-friendly the restaurant was. We visited on a weekday morning during the summer and only had a short wait, though I can't speak to weekend wait times. The only downside is the service after you're seated. You order at the front counter before being shown to your table, and once your food is delivered, it's not very likely that anyone will check on you. If you need a refill or anything else, you'll probably have to flag someone down. Even with that minor drawback, the food more than made up for it. Fantastic food, generous portions, a welcoming atmosphere, and a great spot for families. I'd happily come back the next time I'm in Solvang.
