We stopped in Solvang for brunch and decided to give this spot a try after walking by, checking out the menu, and noticing Chef Budi Kazali's name. The French-Asian fusion cuisine caught our attention. It wasn't too busy so we had our choice of seating in the Parisian-style bistro. We shared the breakfast burrito and the pancakes, and everything tasted incredibly fresh. I especially loved the pico de gallo and the sauce on the side. The buttermilk pancakes had a great chewy texture and were topped with a strawberry yuzu compote. Overall, we were really happy with our meal as you can tell they source seasonal and locally sourced produce. The large patio is very dog-friendly and while there's plenty of indoor seating, most guests opted to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. Was looking for a place with vegetarian options and found this place. It's super cute outside, and the inside feels swanky. Everyone who worked with us were super nice and answered all our questions. Garlic Noodles (10/5 stars) - could use way more garlic but the taste was incredible. It's got a light creaminess to it. Poached Pear Salad (4.9/5) - this salad was almost perfect but the argula was dressed in an extremely sour dressing that almost ruined the salad, but all the other parts worked so perfectly together that you just gotta pretend the sour is not there. Housemade Scallion Focaccia with Garlic Chili Crisp (5/5) - the garlic chili crisp was addicting and had a good heat to it. Mocktail for the toddler and cocktails for the rest of us and they were so incredibly well balanced! The peanut cabbage came out first and my GOD did it set the tone. Incredible. Every single dish we got was amazing in its own right. Cauliflower was incredible and I don't usually like whole roasted cauliflower (even as a vegetarian). The salad was also a hit!! My companions liked the cod very much. Our toddler literally licked the plate from the miso sesame chocolate cake at the end! If we lived closer we would definitely come back again and again! We got the charred cabbage (probably my favorite of the night), some miso black cod (super tender but a bit on the salty side), roasted cauliflower, garlic noodles, and the lamb chops (lollies - I felt like these could have been bigger pieces, for the price). The fusion aspect of this restaurant is super fun! I would probably give 4.5 stars if I could. There were items I have never tried that I really enjoyed like the smoked eggplant that had a light breading on it and when you took a bite it melted in your mouth. This was part of the lamb entree served also with a curry type sauce and potatoes. This was a very unique twist on an entree that seems to served very similar ways at other restaurants. We also absolutely loved the mussels that had Thai flavors busting through. The roasted garlic noodles were also a top contender. The miso cod was also delicious just a little on the small side since they paired it with sautéed spinach only. There was not one item we did not enjoy. The restaurant was pretty empty on a Sunday evening so the service was great up until we got our last course and we never saw our server again who was in the kitchen. We did have two other workers come up to our table after we were done eating to see how we enjoyed everything. It just would have been nice to see our server again. Most of the local eateries were packed but as we happened upon The Gathering Table, it didn't look as busy as the other places, but were quoted a 25 minute wait. I ran inside to use the restroom and noticed a bunch of empty tables, and assume the 25 minute wait was due to staffing. But after we were seated, I observed all the other people walking up, not being made to wait like we had to. Honestly, that alone made me feel some kinda way, so they lost a star for it. Our waitress was lovely and attentive...but I didn't care for the hostess. We were seated outside at one of the large tables...glad it was pleasant enough to do so. I had the pancakes and a side of bacon. My girls had the breakfast burrito, sis had the Cesar salad with Salmon and my niece had the shrimp tacos. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We had such a wonderful dinner at The Gathering. My husband chose The Gathering as it was highly rated, and it was a short walk from The Winston Hotel. We asked for patio seating even though it was a bit cool out, and enjoyed people-watching (it was spring break). We chose the Hamachi appetizer, the braised cabbage dish and black miso cod. We savored every bite - a sashimi style hamachi is one of my favorite appetizers, and this one was fantastic. The Black Miso cod just melts in your mouth. And we loved the braised cabbage dish - next time (!) I'd pair the cabbage with their garlic noodles, but it was awesome as a stand alone, great texture and flavor. The service was great and Chef Budi Kazali came out to our table to speak to us, which made our dinner even more special. We couldn't resist ordering the Thai Tea Bread Pudding - I love all things Thai and it was the perfect balance of sweet and subtle Thai flavors. Service and food were both fantastic! When we started to walk onto their patio, we were greeted by a friendly gentleman who then held the door for us. We checked in for our reservations and decided to sit outside for dinner. They set us up under a heat lamp and turned on another one to make it nice and warm. Tawni came by to take our drink order but we weren't ready. Right away, we could tell service was going to be great for the evening. Amazingly, everyone from the hostess to the bussers and food runners and server were attentive, efficient, and friendly. It felt like as soon as a plate was empty, someone was there to take it away or wipe the table to prepare for the next round. At one point, our entrees arrived as our appetizer plates were being cleared but new plates and flatware appeared quickly with an apology. The wind picked up outside and after my husband got smacked in the face with a menu, we decided to go inside. Tawni took our order while a table was being set up and then she escorted us inside to a cozy table with a booth and chairs. Our dining experience continued without a pause. The sparkling water flowed into our glasses and drinks arrived. We were all set. Everything we had was absolutely delicious and plated beautifully. The table shared the Beef Tartare and Cauliflower for starters. We all loved the tartare which had the perfect amount of saltiness and seasoning. It went well with the endive and shrimp chips. My son's sliders were juicy, served with yummy fries that were not oily and had the right texture. Three of us shared the Salmon, Miso Cod, and Duck Breast. Each dish was prepared outstandingly. The Cod was paired well with sesame spinach while the Salmon was served with an amazing chard that was a tad spicy in a good way plus rice with cashews and peanuts. And the Duck was cooked nicely and had a five spice sauce. It was all so good. The night ended with an Espresso Martini and Cheesecake. We were seated right away in a cozy nook with no reservation. We ordered: New Style Hamachi ($23) Miso Potato Leek Soup ($15) Indonesian Coconut Curry Lamb Shank ($43) which the waitress said they added yesterday to the Chef Specials Local Miso Black Cod ($39) We thought the miso cod was the best then 2nd was the soup then 3rd the lamb and lastly the hamachi. The miso cod was so tender, soft, and succulent. My only gripe about the soup was that the spoon was so thick that it was hard to scoop the soup. I really enjoyed the hints of citrus in the lamb dish. Don't get me wrong the lamb shank and hamachi were tasty and satisfying it's just the miso cod and soup were better in our opinion. On my arrival there; I asked politely for a local well known place to our server was a female lady but she was just rude telling me to google it. I said no problem thank you for the suggestion. Just her nasty attitude was so bad. Besides it took approximately longer than 1 hr to get our meals, the taste was unpleasant, the only nice lady was a young one who brought us the food and apologized for the delay. We tipped the server what we thought she deserved even I would have put a zero money on the tips. I hope they don't add more on the tip because I will disputed since we took a pic of the receipt. I enjoyed the food, with the steamed mussels being my favorite thing we tried! The lamb was also fantastic! The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the service was a bit of a miss. The restaurant was primarily empty and our actual server didn't come around much, there was other random staff but we weren't clear on who was doing what and it felt strange. In the end we ended up handing our check to the server in the kitchen because it was taking so long. Despite that, I would 100% recommend coming here for some wonderful bursts of flavor! I've been meaning to write this review for a while now. My friend and I had a girls trip to Solvang back in November-- going here was one of our best moments of that trip. This restaurant is absolutely beautiful, inside and outside. It caught my eyes in the daytime and it's even better at night with all the lights. All the vibes were just right, even for a couple of girlfriends. They were one of the very few places opened after 5pm in this town lol luckily they were able to seat us right away even without a reservation. The service here was phenomenal. We joked about the fact that maybe they thought we were Michelin Star critics because of how often they checked in on us, and how well we were treated! Granted, our table was outside, in the back, right next to the kitchen... but we quite enjoyed it. It literally felt like everyone in that restaurant came by and checked in on us and made sure we were doing okay, multiple times. We ordered a couple of drinks, the Hibiscus Margaritas (very good) & some appetizers-- the fries (meh, nothing special) and the New Style Hamachi (yummm, very flavorful). My friend got the Panko Crusted Salmon entree, and I got the Miso Black Cod. Both were very good... We were satisfied! For dessert, we ordered the Thai Tea Bread Pudding (I liked it, but she loveeed it) and the Affogato (my fave)-- I mean, ice cream and espresso? Come on... perfection! The following evening my family ate at a different establishment down the street where the food paled in comparison, the bill was significantly higher, and the whole family regretted not going back to The Gathering Table. It was recommended by friends who visit Solvang frequently. We started off with a Lemon Drop Martini and a Welcome Back. Both cocktails were yummy and you could actually taste/feel the alcohol in them. Laura, our server was very sweet, funny, helpful from the first moment. She was a delight. The ambiance was quaint, not noisy, not super busy. It was pleasant. We could actually hear each other talk. :-) We ordered the Cheese & Nuts plate, the Scallion Focaccia and the Japanese Cucumber Salad as appetizers. We split all 3. They were all very delicious. For entrées I had the Pan Fried Duck Breast and the Chanterelle Mushroom & Prosciutto Risotto Special. We asked if we could add chicken to the risotto and Laura said it was no problem. She (well, the chef) even gave us the choice of grilled or fried chicken, so we opted for Korean friend chicken. As a side, we also ordered the Roasted Takikawa Farm Carrots. They went perfectly with both dishes. I liked the mixed sweet and savory notes in that dish. The duck was perfectly cooked and the pan fried endives, the parsnip puree and the ginger-cranberry chutney just complemented the dish delectably. We had a bottle of Storm Pinot Noir with the entrées. A Pinot Noir was a perfect accompaniment to both dishes. We got so full, that we just couldn't have forced any desserts down, so we decided not to order any. At another table, former customers of mine from Marco's recognized me and came over and gave me hugs. As it turned out, they were regulars there and knew the manager. When Jasmine, the manager brought the bill, she told me that the guys told her how great I was and she comped two of our appetizers. The service was great, and the food did not disappoint. I ordered the nasi goreng (Indonesian fried rice), and it was delicious. I've had this dish in Indonesia, and while it's not exactly the same, it's extremely close--I would honestly come back just for this dish alone. Passed by too many brunch places with winding lines, we were surprised to see this place has no line... it looked cute, but the fact there was no line at 10:45am should have given us a hint... The brunch menu was limited to pretty much the usual. I had the omelet and my hubby had the pancakes. I also got a glass of cold pressed juice to feel healthy after days of overeating. The cold pressed juice had apple, cucumber, celery, kale, spinach, lemon and ginger. Yeah I pretty much tasted all of them. Way too healthy for me.lol The omelette and pancakes tasted normal nothing really stood out to warrant the price. The presentation was plain and like any other pancake house or brunch spot. The omelette was $21 on the menu. When the server asked if I wanted bacon, sausage or ham I thought it was a selection within the initial order as the question was not if I wanted additional protein. She then proceed to ask what type of bread I want, which is part of pricing. Which further gave the impression the protein was part of selection. Only when we got the check and saw the omelette was $30 to realized that was considered add on. So for $21 you get eggs and cheese with no meat. 2 pancakes were $17, again nothing to write home about. I guess there was a reason for no line out the door in this small tourist destination packed with people . Glad to find a place open after 5pm! Ambiance was everything especially the outdoor sitting. Heat lamps were placed next to our table so it felt cozy with overhead string lights! Well, this sure is a gathering table--a gathering table for the chef and his friends! The service is awful and they just ignore you. Many people have even reported here how awful and slow the service is, especially if you're of a different race and not part of their "in" crew. To give you some perspective: they have an 8pm table still open on New Year's Eve two weeks before--that should tell you how much they suck! As far as the food... -Caesar salad: every good chef knows it's supposed to be with shaved Parmesan not shredded. -The tartar was bland and lifeless and served with the wrong chips -Salmon was overcooked -the charred cabbage should have been called charred garbage -and the food was overall way too salty I met the chef. He's an arrogant prick and treats people like crap, like he's above them. Maybe he should learn to be nicer to people, then maybe his food will taste better! PS- the only thing good about this place was the garlic noodles (so I'll let the one star be for that), and you can easily make that at home ;-) PS- if you're looking for a farm-to table type restaurant that knows what good food and good camaraderie is, go to Nella Kitchen & Bar, they will not disappoint. read more

We waited for our toast, asked for it, and they finally told us they had no more toast at end of our meal which we let get cold as we waited for the toast that never came. 5. As an "I'm sorry for the service" they brought out bignets, which we didn't eat because they were so greasy. 6. When we nicely expressed our concern to the manager, Lori seemed unapologetic. My girl and I came to have dinner our first night in Solvang. We ordered the Hamachi to start and it was delicious. It was the fastest plate we have ever gotten. My girl ordered the black cod with sautéed spinach. That's it. No texture, nothing to contrast all the fat and acidity, the sauce was broken. I ordered the filet Mignon and it was undercooked. Everything was all fat and nothing to contrast it. Seems like the food is stuck in the 90's early 2000's. The food needs a facelift and more components. It did not disappoint & was my favorite restaurant out of all the places we ate @ There was quite a bit of a wait so we decided to sit @ the bar & the bartender was very nice & accommodating. We started off w/ an espresso martini & OMG that was the best espresso martini I've ever had! We ordered the tar tar, uni pasta & something else I forgot but they were all really good.
