We had an awesome experience here! First off, they have the option to sit outside on a nice sunny patio or inside where everything is accented in dark wood and metal, exactly like you'd expect a bbq place called Whiskey N Rye to look. The drink options were great and our server even suggested the perfect one for me based on other drinks I like. Now most importantly is the food...the serving sizes are large and everything is so flavorful. Make sure you get the elote corn side, it was incredible! I ordered pulled pork with beans on the side and my boyfriend ordered the full rack of ribs with the elote corn. Both were delicious. We were starving when we got there so we were disappointed when we found out his ribs were cold. We told the server and she replaced it immediately, including the full side of corn we ate in the meantime cause we were too hungry to wait! It was definitely the best service we got during our entire time in Solvang. Highly recommend this place! read more

My family and I came here on our visit to Solvang and I really enjoyed their happy hour. The mac n cheese was so delicious, and I loved the brisket dirty fries. My parents loved the filet mignon tips. The one thing to keep in mind though is that a lot of their food is quite spicy. It wasn't too spicy for me, but my mom couldn't even eat the mac n cheese and my dad (who usually takes spice well) found it on the spicy side. Just something to keep in mind if you know you hate spicy. You may be able to ask for no spice ahead of time. The one thing I didn't realize was if you order the brisket as an entree, it's in a steak form. I'm not a big steak gal so I was expecting to get the same broken apart brisket topping that was on the french fries, but alas. Luckily my mom enjoyed them the next day. One thing the business may want to invest in is those fans on the top of entryways that keep flies out. There were so many flies (and we were inside too) and that did negatively impact our experience. Service was very good; our waiter was very attentive! The food was just okay--not a "WOW, I'll definitely come back" kind of experience. For a place like this, I was surprised they had already run out of brisket. Considering the price, I honestly don't feel the food was worth what we paid. It wasn't bad, but it was just okay. The biggest issue for me was the service. They really need to work on being more attentive, especially with refilling drinks and water. Our salad, which came with our order, was served after our main meal, and I actually had to ask the waiter about it. There were also moments when I felt the waiitress could have been more mindful and courteous. We were still talking, and instead of waiting or politely excusing herself, she interrupted us and handed us the payment, while we were literally still eating and finishing our conversation. For a restaurant with this kind of atmosphere and pricing, I expected a much higher level of service. We were really excited to try this place because it smelled amazing. We got there around 7pm and got seated with in 15 minutes. The hostess that sat us was very nice, the server was nice enough, but I wouldn't go to say she was friendly by any means. Possibly she was very busy all night and we were one of her last tables and she didn't have much left. I understand as being a server is a hard job. The restaurant itself was very farmhouse chic with bbq cookout touches here and there. My husband and daughter ordered burgers because they were out of brisket, and they said they were okay, but nothing to write home about. My chili however was amazing. I am a big chili person, and will now be adding pieces of brisket to my chili at home. My husband ordered a whiskey flight. We are big whiskey lovers, but it fell short of our expectations. The flavor wasn't there for most, but I do have to say the espresso old fashioned was a 5/5 and I would order that again! My new favorite place!!! Here for work and found this gem! I orders the brisket with two sides ( elote and garlic smashed potatoes). Who would have ever have thought the elote was gonna be more than just a corn on the cob?? The sauce on there was so scrumptious! Good enough to pick off the fingers!! Kinda sounded like a bar to me but it was a popular restaurant with available parking behind the restaurant. Our server took our orders which arrived shortly after. However, the night that we came, they were only serving their Easter prix fixe dinner. I was at least hoping their popular baby back ribs or smoked beef brisket would be on the menu. (The ribs were only on the kids' menu). Despite not being able to order their BBQ, the star of the prix fixe meal items was the Grilled Salmon. It was perfectly cooked--moist, flaky, and tender. The seasoning was on point, too. The Coffee & Chili-Crusted Filet Medallions sounded good on paper, but it was quite dry. My kid loved her ribs and fries from the kids' menu. They were meaty, tender, and full of flavor. Their desserts were a treat. The Smoked S'mores Mousse was decadent. The Banana & Bourbon Bread Pudding was dense, but was moist and flavorful. The restaurant itself had a masculine and rustic interior. There's a full bar, and I bet it's a popular spot to watch sports games. We came in on a Saturday night and grabbed a couple seats at the bar. Service was fantastic. It was attentive and fast. They have TVs, but we're unable to put the Dodgers game on for us. Which was fine. The decor is beautiful. I would say average noise and pretty busy on a Saturday night. They do close at nine though so it doesn't get crazy like everything else in Solvang. The food was good. We really enjoyed the cornbread and the fried pickles. We also tried the burnt ends and the Caesar salad salad. Both were good, but nothing amazing. The cocktails were my least favorite part. It seems like they pre-batch their Old Fashioneds. They were able to give my husband tastings of them and they were all extremely sweet. My friend and I wanted to grab a bite to eat after zip lining in Buellton, CA before heading back to Santa Barbara. We were really not in the mood for wine and thought this would be a perfect stop based on reviews. The restaurant was very nice with indoor and patio seating. It was a gorgeous day so we sat at the high top on the patio. Ashleigh introduced herself, very nice and attentive. I ordered and Espresso Martini and my friend ordered beer. We shared a Smoked Beef Brisket with a side of Fries and a Caesar Salad. The plate came out fast along with our drinks. We both thought the salad was OK. The fries were delicious. During a birthday day trip to Solvang, my gf and I were looking for a fun place for lunch that had decent reviews. Most of the restaurants in solvang have mediocre ratings at best so it was exciting to find this spot. The restaurant is working walking distance to the main streets so it was nice that we could easily incorporate it into the day. The staff out front were nice and quickly seated us inside. It was a hot day as it's mid August, but inside they had the AC on. Our sever was also the bartender and he was super cool and chill. He was kind and was super good about getting us refills for our water. I liked the vibe of the place, it's modern and clean while still having charm. The lighting in there helps create a cozy atmosphere and the fireplace was the cherry on top. As far as food goes, we were really happy with our choices. We kept it light and got two shareable plates, the first being the Brisket Dirty Fries. They were absolutely delicious, it's been weeks and I've still thought about them. The birria was super yummy and it was cheesy in a good way,it definitely stood out. The wings were good, they had a good amount of sauce on them and they tasted light(not greasy). Throughout our meal, staff were kind. I enjoyed my meal and the only thing i wasn't the biggest fan of was finding a couple of pieces of hair on the wings. I know it's a normal thing but for the price of the wings it's not something I was expecting to see. I would definitely come during happy hour they had some good deals. This is the type of place that exceeds all your expectations. Mostly because you go and thinking it's going to be somewhere between average and good, but then it turns out being great. The showstoppers for me were the ribs, elote spears mac & cheese, and loaded fries. The brisket and the pulled pork were very good as well, definitely recommend the meat plate. My husband and I come to Solvang 3 times a year and have always wanted to eat here because it's always crowded and has good reviews. I really wanted to like this place but was disappointed. I was excited to try the brisket but unfortunately it was extremely fatty! There was 3 pieces, the 1st piece was fine with mostly meat, the second piece was mostly fat with little meat and the third piece was a pile of fat. I understand brisket has some fat but I couldn't eat most of because it was all fat. Advice to the manager, make sure the cooks are only serving pieces that have thick pieces of meat, not fat. My husband got the filet, which was good, but don't expect a nice piece of thick meat you would get at a steak house. Go to the Hitching Post for that. The sides and fried pickles were good. The cookie dessert was also disappointing, it was very thin and covered in too much caramel sauce. Get the sauce on the side. It's on the corner of Copenhagen Street, and outdoor seating had a nice cozy vibe with heaters in the patio setting. We chose to sit inside as it was a little chilly in the evening. The staff was super helpful and very patient, as we struggled to finalize an order. They even changed my order after I put it in. The ribs were great, and their homemade bbq sauce hits the spot. We ordered the seasoned fries and Mac n cheese as sides, and they were amazing too. The fries did have a spicy kick to it, and Mac n cheese were fresh and creamy. The only nitpicking I'd do with the ribs is they were slightly dryer on the outside, but no complaints other than that. read more

We came into town for anniversary and were looking for a place that would be good for dinner, with a casual vibe. Every time a shop owner would ask where we were from and why we came to Solvang, we told them it was our anniversary, and asked where we should eat. They all said Whisky and Rye. They were right. We were able to get a table for two that was in the back corner, our server was attentive and checked in on us often, keeping glasses full and making several on point recommendations. We had the beet salad (I don't like beets - but this salad was really good - so I found beets I like, I guess) and the sampler. It was all so good. Very good service and they didn't mind our small dog -- very accommodating. We both split the brisket sandwich which was good. First, they don't take reservations on the weekend. What? Upon arrival, the hostess greeted us warmly. She informed us that the wait was about 20-minutes. There were a couple of seats open at the bar so we opted to grab them. Turns out the menu at the bar is the same as dining seating. Given how attentive the bartender was, we should have just stayed at the bar. Once seated, Michelle took great care of us. She answered all of our questions with a smile. We were fortunate enough to walk in and get a table despite not having a reservations with no wait but had to sit a the short counter at the bar. We lucked out after grabbing our seats with an open spot at the high bar before we even had a chance to order a drink. There were lots of tables filled with very happy patrons so we were glad to find a quick and easy spot to grab dinner for the night. Both of our bartenders were wonderfully friendly and very attentive. They answered all our questions and made great suggestions. We peeked around at other tables to see what was most popular and we saw everything on the menu around us. Everyone seemed very happy with their food and lots of empty plates going back to the kitchen so we were very confident we'd be happy with our meals. We got the brisket w elote corn quarters and seasoned fries and the brisket chili and it was all very delicious. The portions were generously sized but not overly so which was perfect for us. Our meals came out so quickly and everything was just perfect. We walked there from our room so I don't remember seeing if there was any parking. I do know that there are tons of parking areas and street parking. I don't expect that parking would be an issue for anyone wanting to come in.
