(we were hoping to find something on the less pricey side for our main dinner) The whiskey fruit-infused cocktails sounded amazing, but just tasted like whiskey. The ambiance was a cool vibe with a lot happening everywhere. I think this restaurant really encompasses the 2020's post pandemic feel for many young 30's people. Lots of outdoor seating and totally wide open indoor area with huge bar. Service was okay. Our waitress was good but she seemed so busy maybe because too many tables assigned to her. Food was OK too. Our waitress told us the chef brought in this freshly caught tuna. The way crudo was prepared... I think any Japanese chef would cry how this freshly caught tuna was prepared. Chef can learn a thing or two how to cut the tuna. Their drinks are overpriced as always with these trendy restaurants. I ordered low tide and the serving size was like 2/3 or what a normal restaurants serve for a cocktail but it tasted good though! I think we had come in for drinks at the bar a while ago. This time we made a last minute late night reservation through sapphire reserve access. The oasis like patio was lively for such late night hour. It took a while for someone to come by take our drink orders. But once our waitress arrived the service was very good from beginning to the end. We decided on a Mezcal specialty cocktail and hubby's usual Vesper martini. For food we had dip and chips, veggie pasta, crispy duck and cast iron steak. The dill pickle popcorns were so yummy. I liked the flavorful pasta the most and the duck was very delicious as well. Been here twice now for dinner and can honestly say the food is amazing. While I will admit, the prices are high and def a splurge for myself, the food is delicious. My faves have been their complimentary pickle popcorn, chile cornbread, Brussels sprouts and the carpaccio. Their food is always heavily flavored and cooked well. The only meal we didn't love was the ribs that were nearly $50 and only came with 4 fatty ribs. The sauce was amazing but the quality and quantity of meat was incredibly disappointing considering how great the Lark food is. Service is always a bit mixed as it's a very busy restaurant. Having heard really fantastic things about the Lark, I was very eager to try it during my Santa Barbara visit. The salad was HUGE, definitely meant to share although I ended up cleaning it up. I really like the concept of hyper-local where even the fisherman gets a shoutout by name on the menu, but I think the presentation and execution fell flat. I'm not sure if a larger group or different menu items would have landed differently but my fish ended up a bit rubbery and overcooked. The other dishes were very underwhelming, and it was really tough to get the attention of my server. When it came time to pay, they offered me a pen which didn't work, then when I asked for another one, it didn't work, and finally I asked a bus boy who gave me 5 pens which 4/5 didn't work. Sad that this place has been around for over a decade and we just ate here, last night. Glad that we found it and will return. JJ was our server and he did a great job of moderating how much we ordered and bringing out the plates in good combinations. All the plates are to be shared and our party of 4 enjoyed them all. We were seated outside. It was a nice, the sun only hitting 1 person for a few minutes before it moved far enough for us all to be in the shade. The menu served as sun protection for that time. Cantaloupe was ripe and the tajin and lime gave it a delicious new flavor profile. We overheard the table next to us raving about the heirloom tomato panzanella, so, we ordered it too. The ricotta made this dish. Totally understood what the other table was talking about and we were thankful to overhear them. The Lark's Classic Wedge was the best wedge I have ever had. Sure, I don't eat as many salads as I should but I can appreciate the difference between bacon and the crispy pork belly served here. The line caught crude was ahi. This came out first and we devoured it. The picture will tell you all the words I can't put together right now. New Orleans Shrimp Toast was the only "hot dish" we had. The included sausage was a little too spicy hot for the table. Not me, though! The jus was incredible. If I had another piece of brioche, I would have left the plate clean. Fantastic birthday dinner for two of my friends on a Saturday night. The stand outs were the rosemary cornbread (MUST order) and the creekstone steak (halal!). We also tried the beet salad and a seasonal pasta that were great too. The chocolate pot de crème for dessert was just ok though, as it was hard to get to all the layers in the deep glass it was served in. A fun little appetizer to get your tastebuds ready! Dishes are meant to be shared, and four was a perfect amount of two people. We got the "Tutti Frutti Farms" Roasted Beet Salad. It had strawberries, whipped goat ricotta, salted pistachio, and nastrurtium. Such gorgeous presentation, and a nice bright and fresh dish to begin the meal. Next we had the Jidori Chicken Liver Mousse. Loved this! It had roasted blueberries, hazelnut praline, lemon thyme, and grilled sourdough. Such a perfect combination of flavors and textures! We also had Crispy Brussel Sprouts. These were probably some of the best Brussels sprouts I've ever had! The savory sesame and garum paired with sweetness from the dates, a crunch from the puffed wild rice, and some tartness from the lime were incredible together! Another amazing dish! Lastly, we had the Handmade Rigatoni Pasta. It had sugar snap peas, maitake mushrooms, piedmont white truffle butter, parmesan, and pea tendrils. While this dish was good, it did feel a little more ordinary than the other three dishes we had. Would recommend the Roasted Beet Salad, Chicken Liver Mousse, and Brussels Sprouts first! Absolutely stunning dinner at The Lark last night on our only night in Santa Barbara and I feel glad to say we picked the right restaurant! The place was full, including indoor and outdoor seating, great ambience and light level, and lovely string lights above the seating outdoors. To start they bring over a delectable dill popcorn which was a rich, salty, dill and butter creation. Totally set a fun tone for the meal. Then we had the crispy Brussels sprouts (ORDER THESE!!!) they were divine, the sesame and lime combination was reminiscent of a great pad Thai, with the perfect amount of sauce and tiny bites of figs which all worked together in a way I wouldn't have expected. For the mains we had the shrimp toast and the pork ribs, both fantastic both well portioned and both 10/10s. Pork ribs fell off the bone easily and were spicy and tangy without overdoing flavor and the shrimp toast tasted like a great gumbo sauce and the shrimps were big! The food was so delicious the halibut on the specials was quite literally the most delicious fish I've ever tasted!! If it's available get it! We are at the Lark tonight and had a good experience. It's a fairly casual and comfortable restaurant. We were greeted and seated immediately. I was glad we made reservations. The restaurant was busy. Our server was great. She introduced herself (Giana I believe she said) and helped us understand that the intent of the menu and dining approach is a sharing format. The plates and portion sizes vary depending upon the item. Cocktails: The Lark has a very interesting (in a good way) cocktail menu. Our party tried 5 different cocktails. Everyone loved their drink and commented on how well made they were. Food: The restaurant provides complimentary dill pickle popcorn (10/5) as a snack to get your appetite moving. This unique popcorn flavor was one of the best things I had all night. Everyone in our party agreed. We ordered 40% of the menu. The standouts were the fried chicken (5/5), the duck confit (5/5), and the pork ribs (4/5). Dessert: The chocolate pot-a-crème with banana cream (5/5) and donut holes (5/5) were both very tasty. We had a real good experience at the Lark. My only comment as a first timer was gauging how much food to order. We chose this spot to celebrate a milestone birthday and made an advance reservation for a large party. The booking process was smooth and straightforward, which I really appreciated. We had Harlow, who seemed a little disengaged at first, though she did warm up after some light conversation. That said, we didn't see much of her afterward and were expecting a bit more attentiveness given the size of our group. She actually had no idea we were celebrating a birthday until about check out. Which is odd because of our advanced reservation. Once she did know she brought out a small birthday dessert. Water refills weren't offered regularly, and we had to flag someone down for additional drinks. There also wasn't much explanation of the dishes as they were brought out, so we found ourselves guessing what each item was based on the paper menu left at our tables. One point of confusion was the billing process. We were asked to put a card on file ahead of time, with the understanding that it would be charged at the end of the meal and that gratuity would be included for a large party. However, neither happened, which left us a bit unsure about how to handle the final payment and tip. Overall, it was a decent experience, and we made the most of the evening thanks to the great company and atmosphere. If you do want to try this restaurant, a reservation is highly recommended! Or you can be like us and try your luck with the community table (which honestly wasn't that bad). But from the looks of it and from the reactions of other people sitting around us, you can't go wrong with any craft cocktail on the menu. For entree, I enjoyed the pappardelle pasta. The mushrooms provided a nice texture while the basil kept it bright and fresh. My friend enjoyed the fried chicken which we were told was a fan favorite. Don't skip this..I'm still thinking about it! - Line Caught Crudo: My least favorite of the evening. Didn't work for me and many girls left it. The texture was rubbery and I didn't enjoy the creamy sauce - Roasted Beet Salad: Light and refreshing, a nice palate cleanser in the middle of the meal. - The Fisherman's Catch -- One of the best dishes of the night. Beautifully executed and memorable. Fish was so flaky with a crispy skin - Lamb Ribs: Disappointing. Barely any meat on the bones...not worth it in a family-style setting where you're sharing. - Jidori Fried Chicken: Good, solid comfort food done well. - Sourdough Donut Holes: A perfect ending. We came here on a Monday night after eloping at the courthouse and were excited to celebrate. We had a reservation and were seated quickly at an outdoor table. Things started off strong--our drinks and appetizers came out promptly and were enjoyable. However, the timing for the entrees really took away from the experience. They took an unusually long time to arrive, and we weren't the only ones feeling it. The table next to us was clearly frustrated as well, even considering having one person leave while the other waiting for the last dish to be packed to go yet they were still stuck waiting. By the time our food finally came out, we had lost much of our appetite. While the setting and start of the meal were great, the overall experience felt a bit overpriced for what it ended up being. It was disappointing, especially for what we had hoped would be a memorable, special dinner. read more
