Stonehouse continues to be one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the Santa Barbara area. Every visit reminds me why it's such a special destination. From the stunning grounds to the impeccable service and beautifully executed food, the entire experience feels luxurious without being pretentious. If you're celebrating a special occasion, it's hard to imagine a better setting. I chose Stonehouse for my birthday this year, and they made the evening feel incredibly memorable. Our server, I believe her was Amy, was absolutely fantastic. she was warm, attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely made me feel celebrated throughout the meal. It's the kind of hospitality that elevates an already wonderful dinner into something unforgettable. I ordered the lychee mocktail which was refreshing with a perfect balance of sweetness, and my server smoked it table side for me. It was such a thoughtful gesture for my birthday. We started with the assortment of fresh breads served alongside really high quality olive oil, which were delicious on their own. Shortly after, we were treated to an amuse bouche which was a delicate whipped lobster nestled inside a slice of cucumber. It was light, elegant, and a wonderful way to begin the meal. The Grilled Yellow Peach and Burrata Salad was another standout. The sweetness of the peaches paired beautifully with the creamy burrata, creating a refreshing and well balanced appetizer that felt perfect for the season. For our entree, we shared the Beef Wellington for Two, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The pastry was beautifully golden and flaky, while the beef was cooked perfectly and remained incredibly tender. The sauce also made it very pleasant. Every component of the dish felt thoughtfully prepared. It also came with the Signature Mashed Potatoes. It was unbelievably rich and indulgent. At first it seemed a little watery, but after letting it sit for a few minutes, it thickens slightly and became perfectly smooth and velvety. By the end of dinner, I was completely satisfied, but they had one final surprise for me. The team presented me with a beautiful birthday dessert, a thoughtful gesture that perfectly capped off an already exceptional celebration. Beyond the food, the property itself is breathtaking. The beautifully landscaped grounds and elegant dining spaces create an atmosphere that's both romantic and timeless. Matt B. and I went to Stonehouse the night we got engaged, back in 2012. The restaurant and property were beautiful, and we had a wonderful romantic dinner on the patio. We went back a few weeks ago, for Matt's 43rd birthday, and found a completely different restaurant. I guess at some point, San Ysidro Ranch went all-inclusive, and Stonehouse started serving a mostly captive clientele: hotel guests who've already paid for dinner. This is fine if you're staying at the Ranch, but if you remember The Stonehouse as a fancy special occasion restaurant with a high level of service, your impression is out of date. The astronomical prices may suggest otherwise, but keep in mind that most diners aren't really paying those anyway. We went on a drizzly Tuesday night and sat inside, missing out on the scenic patio. The dining room was nice, though, very stately, and as parents ourselves, we were not put out by the number of children in the room, the families sitting down for a casual weeknight dinner. We were surprised, though, when we tried to order drinks and our waiter asked to see our IDs. My husband presented his license, which showed very clearly that it was his 43rd birthday. The waiter had no comment on this, and instead turned his attention to me, Matt's 40-year-old wife. I didn't have ID on me, and he refused to take my drink order. We weren't about to have an expensive birthday dinner without alcohol, so we got up to drive home and pick up my license. But first, I decided to try my luck with a manager. Because look, I understand that I should've had my wallet, but also, I hadn't been carded at a restaurant in years. I told this to the manager, and suggested they tell customers in advance to make sure to bring ID. Instead of explaining that he needed to be careful because The Stonehouse served families with teenagers, he said it was the law, and that every restaurant should be carding aggressively. This was so disingenuous I more or less asked if he'd ever been to a restaurant. I also offered to show him a scan of my passport and the picture Matt and I took at The Stonehouse the night we got engaged in 2012, well after I turned seven. He relented, and we were reseated without having to produce my license. I didn't hold any of this against our waiter, but we were assigned a new one anyway, and received middling service for the duration of our meal. For one thing, we asked for help picking a bottle from the massive wine book, and it took the somm an actual half hour to pay us a visit. We were done with our appetizers and had checked in with our waiter twice by the time he made his way over. The other annoyance was that no one acknowledged Matt's birthday, despite the time we spent litigating birthdays, during which I mentioned quite pointedly that we were there for his 43rd. I even told a server who checked in on me before dessert while Matt was in the bathroom, and he said he'd make sure there was a candle in our tart. Not the end of the world, but this did not happen. The drinks, when we got them, were great, starting with cocktails, which almost tided us over until we received our wine. These were $33 a pop and kind of ridiculous, smoked tableside with a showy gadget. The Negroni Tropicale was made with grilled pineapple-infused No. 3 dry gin, Campari, Carpano Antica, and orange zest, then smoked with pecan wood. The French Quarter mixed Bardstown Ferrand Cognac-cask bourbon, Zaya 16-year rum, Benedictine, oloroso sherry, dry vermouth, and orange bitters, and was smoked with bourbon oak wood. For wine, we got a bottle of 2020 Vietti Monvigliero Barolo. This was excellent, and also a bit of a win. The bottle was barely marked up from retail, and we'll never know if The Stonehouse has exceptionally favorable wine prices or we were served the wrong vintage on accident. Food was solid, starting with Maine lobster salad in tiny phyllo cups, a nice welcome bite. Bread basket came with pumpkin seed lavash pumpkin seed, sourdough, and rice flour rolls, with olive oil for dipping. We enjoyed a half-dozen oysters with pickled Asian pear mignonette, and Japanese yellowtail crudo with pixie tangerine, purple radish, seagrass, and shiro dashi vinaigrette. Acorn squash agnolotti were lovely, with black truffle, toasted pecans, morel mushrooms, and a goat cheese fondue. The duck a l'orange came with a show, the sauce flambéed tableside on portable burner. A lot of magic tricks on this menu, perhaps for the kids. The duck breast was good, though, over barley pilaf with Tokyo turnips, herbes de Provence, Cara Cara orange, and Grand Marnier. The herb-crusted rack of lamb was decent too, served with lamb sausage, Tuscan kale, crispy polenta, and violet mustard. For dessert, we shared the orchard Meyer lemon tart with blueberry compote and wildflower honey and lavender Chantilly. The food was a strong A-, but not worth the money or the sub-par experience. Birthday Ruined - Extremely Disappointing Experience I am beyond disappointed with my experience at Stonehouse Restaurant. I drove 3 hours with my mother (65) and my daughter (15) to celebrate my birthday, expecting a beautiful and memorable breakfast. Instead, our entire experience was ruined by a manager named Michael. While we were peacefully enjoying our meal, he approached our table with an aggressive and unprofessional attitude. He told me I was not allowed to take any photo even simple photos of myself, my daughter, and my mother. There was no sign or policy mentioned, yet he demanded that I delete all of our family photos immediately. He then said that if I posted anything, he would do something, which felt like a direct threat. He also mentioned calling the police, which made the situation even more alarming. What upset me the most was that all of this happened in front of my 15-year-old daughter. She is still very young and should never have to witness her mother being spoken to in such a hostile and intimidating way. She was genuinely scared by his tone, his words, and the way he handled the situation. No child should feel that kind of fear in what was supposed to be a happy family celebration. When I calmly asked what I had done wrong, he refused to provide any explanation and instead told us we had to leave immediately and were not welcome back. When I told him his behavior was rude, he responded, OK, I'm going to be rude to you. We were forced to leave without finishing our food or celebrating my birthday. My family left feeling uncomfortable, disrespected, and shaken. This was not just poor service this was completely unacceptable and unprofessional behavior from management. I hope the owner and senior management take this seriously, because no customer and especially no child, should ever be made to feel this way. I would appreciate a response from senior management regarding how this situation will be addressed. read more

I have had this restaurant saved on my Yelp bookmarks for a while and finally had the chance to go. Everything about it is absolutely beautiful. The views are incredible, and the space has so much character and charm. Even the bathrooms are beautifully decorated, which says a lot. You do need a reservation since it is inside the ranch, and OpenTable requires a credit card on file, so plan ahead. I ordered the grain bowl and it was excellent, and the crab cake was fresh and well done. Our waiter was wonderful and the service was great the entire time. I would absolutely recommend this and would love to come back for dinner. It is an incredibly beautiful restaurant and completely worth it. read more

I went to Stonehouse Restaurant for a birthday celebration. It was an amazing experience. I would highly recommend planning to spend couple of hours exploring and walking around the garden. This location has a breathtaking garden. For food, I would say I really enjoyed my wagyu burger. It was very tasteful and perfect seasoning. I liked the fact that it was done the way I requested. I requested well down and I got it. I would say I really enjoyed the dessert too. They brought a complimentary dessert as well which was a nice touch. My only complaint is about the drinks. For the price I was expecting better ones, but it didn't meet my expectations. For service, I would say staff were really nice and friendly. Our server was attentive and answered our questions. Stonehouse has been a favorite of ours for years, usually for dinner. This time we came for their Champagne Brunch and, for the first time, sat outside on the garden patio. It was a beautiful setting, and the weather couldn't have been better - especially after SoCal had just survived yet another round of atmospheric river storms over Christmas. We were there with friends, and between the four of us, we managed to order most of the items on this special brunch menu. I started with the burrata and prosciutto, which was anything but traditional - in the best way. It was far more interesting and delicious than expected. I also ordered the shakshuka, my go-to at Stonehouse brunches, and it absolutely delivered. For dessert, I chose the profiterole, and it was hands-down the best part of the meal. I wish I could take those home with me. As always, the service was impeccable. Our server was genuinely warm and happy, and it showed. They kept the table perfectly managed - clearing and resetting seamlessly - and made sure our champagne, mimosa, and prosecco glasses were never empty. The worst part? Having to leave. Granted, we spent a leisurely two and a half hours enjoying the food, the setting, and catching up with old friends. Will we be back? Absolutely. We make it a point to come at least once a year. With our adult children, we experienced Stonehouse together for the first time! The grounds are breathtaking with elegant lighting. We were in the dining room which is quite sophisticated, classy and elegant. The service was top-notch..kind professional, and knowledgeable. A wine connoisseur would find exactly what they are looking for in that book. We had a bottle of Pinot Noir and we were not disappointed. The food was good, but not as memorable as the ambience and service. Everybody liked what they had from the salmon to fettuccine....but it wasn't a WOW, I want to go back and have that dish again. The staff and service is truly impeccable. The ambiance is calm and quiet and the walk around garden including the chef garden is amazing. We went to the speakeasy and got the strawberry horchata and calamari - both were great! The speakeasy is fun! I recommend grabbing a drink there and walking the garden. The dinner had the best sunset view and was so charming. We got a couple of the Smokey drinks and that was so much fun! We got two filets and the macaroni and cheese. I found this place while browsing Yelp as I searched for restaurants in Santa Barbara. I hadn't heard of The Stonehouse previously but looked at photos and after seeing how beautiful the restaurant was, immediately made a reservation. The restaurant is located within San Ysidro Inn, which is a classic hotel where JFK and Jackie once stayed. There is valet available at the restaurant. They offer an a la carte menu here, and service is lovely. My husband and I both loved the ambiance. It was the perfect place to celebrate my birthday. The food here was pretty good, but I wasn't amazed by anything. If it weren't for the ambiance, I think this restaurant would just be okay. I'll start with I do love Stonehouse. It is probably my favorite restaurant. The ambiance is the best in potentially the prettiest place in CA. I go 3-4 times a year, and unfortunately the quality has dropped recently. To start, they cut the menu extensively. They removed the vegetarian dishes. Something the waiter noted was, "Because our customers prefer meat." I know I'm under 50, so not the most common demographic, but I am a long time customer. They stopped giving out complimentary olives. The food quality has also taken a bit of a dive. I'm hopeful they'll reconsider some of the changes. read more

What a memorable experience--this place is an absolute must-visit! We started at the speakeasy and followed it up with dinner at the restaurant, which boasts a seriously impressive wine list. While the entire meal was great, one menu item deserves a special mention: the vegetarian cauliflower dish. We ordered it as a side to share, but it was so incredible I instantly wished I had chosen it as my main course. Make sure you don't skip the garden, either. The grounds and ambience are lovely; we had plenty of time to explore, take photos and mingle with other guests prior to dinner. The staff were attentive, warm and helpful; the sommelier was helpful, authoritative and not the least bit stuffy. The table settings, presentation and service was top notch. It is what it is. Pricey by any standard - $38 average cocktail and more single drink options in the $200+ range than menu items under $20. Entrees $75 at least, $40 for a few bite appetizers. That said, this place is entirely about the ambiance, so be sure to arrive early and walk around the grounds. Think of it as paying 30-40% on top for the exquisite beauty of the grounds. The service was kind, but we were disappointed that the waiter baited us into splitting an entree without mentioning that there was an additional $10 fee for splitting the entree - seemed like a reasonable choice given the most affordable entree was $75. Got lucky to score a Brunch reservation here on Sunday morning. It was surprisingly quiet but 80% full. The service was excellent- super attentive The decor is super gorgeous with views of the water and old world style fireplace and wood beam ceilings. The grounds are just immaculate with fresh herbs and produce everywhere. Such a pretty space! The food- Brunch is prix fixe with 3 courses and unlimited champagne/bellini/juices and a great value for the quality. I cannot wait to come here again- and hopefully spend the night here! We decided to go to The Stonehouse Restaurant for my birthday based on my boss's recommendation. The drive was a bit far from LA, but we decided to make a day of it. The property was lovely, and everyone from the gate attendant to the valet and the restaurant staff was very cordial and professional. The only thing that didn't cooperate that day was the weather. It was a pretty gloomy day, and the view wasn't as spectacular as it could've been. Also, there was a wedding on the property, so certain areas--such as the rose garden--were off-limits until the ceremony was over. The food was great, and we enjoyed the meal overall. read more

We loved our fancy experience at Stonehouse. The service from the valet, to the hostess, to our waiter were beyond exceptional. It's quite the high end experience you should try for yourself. The food was great although I think you're paying more for the experience, the valet service, garden access, the presentation of the drinks/food/dessert. The ambiance is fancy and elegant. They recommend a dress code which my girlfriend and I got dressed up for, but I did notice some individuals more casual in shorts and a t shirt. The Pearadise Road drink was served with a special smoke presentation and the Crepes Suzette were cooked in front of us which was a special treat. I loved the complimentary bread. The Pad Ty w/ Tofu was good especially if you're vegetarian. Oscar was a phenomenal waiter and I feel like he took care of us. Someone else apparently overcooked our crepes and Oscar cooked us another one. Benjamin was a very friendly valet and he offered to take our pictures when he noticed us taking selfies. We ate here on a Friday at 1:30pm and reserved it 4 days prior. I'd recommend trying an evening meal to catch the sunset and hear live music. I've only been here for lunch, so the menu may differ at dinner or even seasonally. The vibes were mellow, elegant, and dreamy. There was some medium-level chatter, but nothing close to loud where you won't hear your tablemates. The lunch menu was an interesting fusion of many cuisines. My wife and I went for a variety of flavors and ordered the Korean tacos (mini), crudo sashimi, branzino, and poke bowl. We shared everything and were left completely satisfied. So delicious that nothing was left on our plates. If I remember correctly, our server was Bogdan. He was very friendly, attentive, and made great recommendations while keeping the conversations light and enjoyable. It's definitely on the pricier side, especially if you're staying at the ranch. I love the Stonehouse restaurant for breakfast lunch and dinner! However, I would NOT recommend the champagne brunch. Service was weird and not super friendly, and I don't really like how you order all courses at once. I know why they do it that way, to have your next course ready, but I felt rushed to finish my plates and staff kept coming over and trying to take plates that we weren't done with. I remember who our main server was, but I'm not going to say his name. Ironically, another review names him as not being friendly either. We went last October when it was 125 per person, and now the website says it's 145 per person for the same experience? Menu is still the exact same they need to change it up. Sorry but it's boring... Won't be going back for that again anyway. Free flowing beverages are nice but don't really make it more worth it, especially because I don't drink a lot of alcohol. Appetizer was good, chicken and waffles were awful. Waffles were ok, but the chicken was literally impossible to cut and eat and was mostly bone. Ate almost none of it, and threw it away when I got home because it was basically inedible. I should've got the pancakes because they're really good, but I've tried them already and wanted to have something new. What a mistake! What a waste of 300+ dollars that could've been much better spent. I think something there also upset my stomach and I had to get up to use the bathroom a few times which was met with weird looks from our servers. So awkward. Our server was weird when I asked to box up the Crem Brulee, saying "it won't look as nice boxed up." Obviously I know that but I don't really care, I just want to box it up and eat later when these servers aren't staring daggers at us.... We celebrated my wife's 50th birthday here with five other couples. Starting with the positives: the ambience was absolutely charming, and the holiday decorations made the space feel especially magical. Our sommelier recommended excellent wines for our dinner. Unfortunately, the meal itself fell short of expectations. Given the size of our party, we were on a fixed menu, which is understandable; however, the execution should have been flawless at this price point. Two people in our group ordered the duck, which was prepared tableside, but neither dish was seasoned properly, resulting in very bland flavors. An absolutely incredibly dining experience. I took my grandparents to lunch at Stonehouse to celebrate my grandfather's birthday. It was one of the best dining experiences of my life. The service was absolutely fantastic. Our waiter was knowledgeable, attentive, and had a great sense of humor. He treated my grandfather like a king in celebration of his birthday, and made our entire experience first class. We had the local strawberry gazpacho and Japanese yellowtail crisp to start. Both were light and fresh with lovely flavors. I particularly enjoyed the gazpacho with the hint of basil flavoring. For entrees we had the branzino, SYR burger, and SYR poke bowl. The branzino was the table favorite! For dessert we indulged in the baked Alaska and lemon meringue. Overall incredible meal in a gorgeous setting with 5 star service. Hecka disappointing the duck al orange tasted like the Swedish meatballs from ikea. Bland steamed veggies on top of the lukewarm duck and the plate wasn't even hot. None of the flavors were balancing each other it tasted very contraindicative of each other there was no synergy in the dish everything felt distinguishly separate. The salmon was overall not a good dish starting from the steamed veggies to the seasonless salmon please salt cure your salmon for some flavor my man could make a better meal than this the only thing I would recommend here is the persimmon carajillo that drink was outstanding top tier but that's all I have to say and the appetizer brentwood corn agnolotti was pretty good. This place is incredible. We went on a Monday afternoon for lunch. The grounds around the restaurant are breathtaking and are a must-see before or after you eat. The food was delicious and our waiter was very friendly. We were celebrating a birthday and they made her feel special and even brought her a happy birthday cake! We ordered the Korean tacos, salmon salad, chicken Milanese, and a White Sea bass. Everyone said everything was delicious and they would order it again. We then got the lemon tart for dessert and it too was wonderful. Side note- my girlfriend got the smoked margarita and said it was the best drink she's ever had.
