With so many great places to eat in Solvang, we decided to try Brekkies for brunch, and it did not disappoint. Everything we ordered was outstanding. We had the protein bowl, the pancake combo with Danish pancakes, the Monte Cristo, and the flaky toast. Keep in mind, this was for only two and a half people, and we still had plenty left to take home because the portions are generous. The Monte Cristo was probably the best I've ever had. The flaky toast was incredible and had me wishing I had room for another order. The Danish pancakes were also excellent and definitely worth trying. Another big plus was how family-friendly the restaurant was. We visited on a weekday morning during the summer and only had a short wait, though I can't speak to weekend wait times. The only downside is the service after you're seated. You order at the front counter before being shown to your table, and once your food is delivered, it's not very likely that anyone will check on you. If you need a refill or anything else, you'll probably have to flag someone down. Even with that minor drawback, the food more than made up for it. For soft drinks, they have Coke products. It does not say specifically on their menu. Inside has a lot of room for customers and the ability to combine tables. Food at Brekkie in Solvang was great, and the service overall was good. Just be prepared for long lines -- we waited about 49 minutes to order. What really disappointed us was an interaction with one staff member regarding seating. We understand the policy about not saving tables, and normally that would be completely fine. However, we were next in line to order, there were still plenty of open tables at the time, and we were with 5 kids, a baby, and a senior citizen grandmother. While the parents were ordering, our grandma sat down with the children thinking it would be okay since we had already waited so long and were about to order. Unfortunately, a staff member came over yelling at us and aggressively shooing us away from the table. The way she spoke to our grandmother felt extremely rude and unnecessary. A little kindness and consideration would have gone a long way, especially with children and elderly family members involved. I don't want to make assumptions or turn this into a bigger issue, but the interaction left us feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. It was disappointing because the food itself was genuinely very good. I was surprised to find that it was a pay up front and seat yourself kind of diner. The restaurant had two rooms: the front, and the back--which is by the bathroom. I enjoyed their monte cristo - great fresh ingredients done well. Not overly greasy, salty, or sweet. It went well with the textured jam. My kids had the loaded tater tots.
