Sarah Bernhardts was the one bakery item I wanted to bring home but the ones at Danish Mill Bakery looked different than the last time I was there. Good thing I only bought two to try as it tasted different as well. Solvang Bakery came through with how they're supposed to be. Moist, not dry almond cookie topped with a chocolate ganache enrobed in more chocolate. Decent bakery but I happened to try the peanut butter brownie and that's obviously not their thing. I'm a sucker for chocolate and peanut butter so I thought it would be great, but the brownie was too dense and fudgey and the peanut butter was a weird frosting that I ended up scraping off. I did also get some butter cookies which I liked because they were buttery and not too sweet. Perfect with tea or coffee. I'm sure if you come to get some of the items that all the other reviews say to get you'll leave happy, but I went against my Yelp instincts and paid the price. Fortunately, it's not an expensive spot (thought it would be because i couldn't find pricing posted anywhere) and all the individual pastries are in the $3-5 range. I like the Sarah Bernhart cookies here the best. It's got a good almond cookie base, small ganache and chocolate top. Just the right balance, nothing over powering other parts. Also has apple strudle for breakfast, they can warm it up for you if you like. I saw small birthday cakes, great when you only need it for 2 or 3 people, as opposed to getting a giant 8 inch cake. From what I've read, many celebrities purchase them during the Christmas season. Of course I had to try a gingerbread man! On a side note, we planned to try a Kringle, a type of Danish pretzel with custard and marzipan, topped with toasted almonds. However, we were shocked by its large size and price. $19.95 for a huge pastry that we might not even like, given we were sorely disappointed by the Danish fare we tried earlier.
