Located on the main drag, right next to the Biergarten, is Aebleskivehuset. This new place is very small, bright white, clean and very on the go. Seating outside. We ordered the 3 Aebles with Raspberry. They were good, not as good as the main one down the street, but good. Good customer service. *Normal where close to as good as down the street, but good. They also have a real deal coffee maker, plus*

We had lunch next door to here and decided to get some aebleskivers at the end of the day before we headed home. This is a tiny little place, very bright and clean, with a small counter to order at, eat outside. Three aebleskivers for $6.50 isn't bad at all, and it was plenty for the four of us to share. They were not the best though. Pretty dry, with a slight lemon flavor, the raspberry jam on the side was tart and runny, not thick at all. If we had paid more for these, it would be 2 stars, but for the price point, they were OK. My niece and her boyfriend had never had them before, they liked them, but I told them don't judge based on these. There are better ones out there, some just down the street from this place.

Raspberry Jam and sugar Pancake balls - basic. Would never get again. Left a funny aftertaste in my mouth

Cute spot, and it was a long-ish 10-15 min wait on a Saturday afternoon in Sept. Raspberry Jam and sugar Pancake balls ($6.50) - basic. Would not get again. Left a funny aftertaste in my mouth. Jam was sweeter than I'd hope. Still glad I got to experience it tho bc it's unique in the sense that it's denser than your average everyday pancake lol

Ice Cream

Ice cream is always a must even on a rainy day, and this place got it going. There was no line unlike what others been saying, but maybe that was because it was raining. Inside is small. Put in your order and eat outside.

Great spot to pickup after having the sausages next door. We got the original without ice cream. Yummy. It's just a pancake ball that's not too sweet and perfect to dip with the jam. I loved it. They have another location if you turn right from the wurst shop and walked for a little bit. That one don't have seats though, just the 1 bench.

Nice, soft, and chewy. At first bite, I wasn't sure if I liked it, but by the second bite, I was warming up to it. Sweet with a hint of savory it really grew on me

Quick friendly service with ample seating just outside. Lines can get long at times but moves fairly quick.

Aebleskiver with raspberry jam and sugar

Ordered the aebleskiver with raspberry jam and sugar and it was okay. The dough was bland so the flavor really only came from the jam and sugar. I thought it would be a donut type taste but it didn't taste like anything. The service was off, as some of our group was sitting outside and a gentleman with blonde hair had told them that the seating was for their customers which we had ordered food already. He continued to watch us as if we didn't belong there. There was no sign that said the seating was specific to their business but we had purchased from there anyways. The inside was nice and supposedly they don't accept cash which wasn't an issue as we had cards. Not sure why we were treated differently, but won't be going back.

Yum! I've been to Solvang several times but never tried pancakes balls. I decided to try the one with raspberry jam. Service was quick. We got to eat it immediately. It was warm, fluffy and just delicious with my morning iced coffee. There were seats outside to enjoy some sun and breeze.

For a quick (well, semi quick) sweet treat, I guess this could do the job. It's a cute, tiny little shop. I say "semi quick" because it was just the one lady working who helped us and there was quite a line before and after us. She was nice, but could've been friendlier. Maybe she was just overwhelmed from working the shift alone? Anywho, we got the basic Cinnamon and Cream cheese balls to share. It was good but not good enough for me to feel the need to want to go back. Also, anything with cinnamon could be quite messy so it's a good thing we were already outside, it just all fell to the ground. Would I recommend? Sure. Would I go again? Maybe... but probably not.

This was a must-try for us since we've seen it on so many people's list for things not to miss in SOLVANG. Place was clean and service was super friendly. Located right in the heart of their downtown area. We got the plain ones since we are new to it. It came with 3 pancake balls with a side of jam. The balls were large and dense, not like a beignet but more of a large donut hole. They were so dense that we ended up sharing one ball only.

Convenient located in the cute little main area of Solvang and perfect quick bite to try this danish pastry as you're walking around. One order of 3 bites of cinnamon with cream cheese was enough to try among us friends. It wasn't overly sweet but just enough. It was good but not like wow kinda feel. But definitely nice to try in this mini danish town. We came at a good time but we saw how it can be a wait as the line builds up during busy time.

Tasty german pancake balls like. Love with jelly and powdered sugar. It's so simple and yet filling snack or dessert. When we're there it's only cash because they had problems with the their machine. This is a good spot in Solvang.

The place is small, you just order to go. Unique experience but they just taste like pancake balls so nothing interesting about the sweets

Mortensen's Danish Bakery - Cream Cheese Danish ($5)

Mortensen's Danish Bakery

(1.1k reviews)

My family and I knew that it was a must to stop into a Danish bakery while in Solvang and…read moreMortensen's was first! Mortensen's is a landmark in Solvang, the building is huge and they even have nice lawn area where you can sit and enjoy your treats! We ordered an assortment of cookies, an Almond Croissant, Cheese Danish and a Pistachio Bar. There were so many pastries to choose from - we had a hard time walking away and not buying one of everything! They had tubs of Danish Butter Cookies and massive Danish Kringles! They also had plenty of seating inside as well! I loved seeing all of the Spring and Easter decorations throughout - it was a very welcoming atmosphere! Staff were also friendly and gave recommendations! I would definitely come back and visit Mortensen's the next time I am in Solvang! Check them out!

Take a look at my photos first--the cake and the bill just didn't match. I ordered three items (two…read morecakes and a coffee), but the receipt only listed two, and they weren't even the items I had. I checked the menu and realized the bill was actually for less than I should have paid; it was likely mixed up with the customer sitting next to me, who I remember had ordered a Napoleon. Looking at the prices later, I found the menu quite strange: the Chocolate Eclair is $11.95, while the Napoleon is a dollar less. Anyone who has ever made both will admit that an eclair is much easier to prepare than a Napoleon--in fact, an eclair might be the easiest item in a bakery. It's an interesting pricing choice. This bakery must be very famous; even the AI I used to plan my trip from Pasadena to San Jose recommended it. Since it isn't peak season, I easily found a parking spot on the main street, which was a relief compared to ten years ago when I had to drive in circles to find one. Even in the off-season, there was still a line--not too long, but a line nonetheless. The pastries in the case were all beautifully made and looked delicious. It was difficult to decide, but I eventually chose a Chocolate Eclair and a Danish Waffle. I went with the eclair because it was one of the few Western-style cakes available in my hometown of Shanghai when I was growing up. I've loved them since childhood. Back then, the only other Western desserts we could find were Palmiers, Chestnut Cream Cakes, and cups of whipped cream that you would just eat directly. The eclair tasted excellent, with a texture that was a perfect mix of soft and crispy. The cream was a little oily but still acceptable, and while the whole thing was quite sweet--a bit beyond average--I could still enjoy it. The Danish Waffle looked a bit like a fried Chinese donut, or Youtiao, stuffed with whipped cream, but the outside was actually a light, crispy puff pastry. It was much better than I imagined--crispy without being hard and perfectly baked. The filling was the same cream used in the eclair, combined with raspberry jam. I later realized the Danish Waffle was only $6.25, nearly half the price of the eclair despite being just as good. It's strange that the Chocolate Eclair is the most expensive item in the bakery; it's good, but compared to the Danish Waffle, the price is a bit high. I saw some people complaining that the bakery doesn't have a restroom. When I asked, the staff politely directed me to the nearby park. I accepted the answer, though I can't imagine how they handle the crowds during the busy season. Regardless, this is a five-star experience, no doubt--just be sure to check your bill when you pay. I don't want to pay more than I owe, but I don't want to pay less, either.
