Food We were wandering around solvang and craving some sweet and went into danish mill bakery enticed by the display. We ordered a princess cake and some aebleskivers to share. Princess cake was pretty good. Loved the texture of it and wasn't overly sweet but wasn't a fan of the overall flavor. My family and I briefly checked out Danish Mill Bakery just to see what they offered in comparison to the other bakeries in town. Upon entering, we realized how hot it was inside - like uncomfortably hot to the point where I got overwhelmed and just needed to get out of the shop. Before I did, I bought 2 packs of their Danish Haribo gummies that I had never seen or heard of before - we brought them back for a friend of ours who loves Haribo! I also noticed their massive glass counter display of Danish pastries - they looked amazing! We didn't buy anything from them since I was in a hurry to get outside, but man...did they look tasty! I did notice that they had a nice seating area in the back to enjoy your items - that is, if you can stand the heat. Staff at the counter and register were super friendly! We picked up pastries before we left and we picked up a raspberry danish, eclair, and a bucket of cookies. Since we arrived early, we were able to get in and out pretty fast since there weren't too many people there yet. The pastries itself were alright, they were a bit too sweet for my tastes but the flavor was good. We were very surprised at how good the bucket of cookies are! Lots of baked goodies with almond! I wanted to grab so much, but luckily before I got in line to order, our table for brunch was ready so we stopped by the bakery again after our meal. I tried to be reasonable since some of the things I was eyeing does not travel well on the 3+ hour drive we have going home, so I settled on a bear claw ($4.95), Kringle slice ($4.50), and almond mazarin ($4.95). What drew me to this bakery was the cute display in front where there are moving dolls making bread. Very unique display. Ordering took a while and was confusing. You order at the counter but if you choose dine in, you can sit down and then pay at the end. If you choose take out then you pay at the counter. None of this was clear when ordering though. I initially said take out but then changed it to dine in and the server was definitely annoyed. We got 3 double cappuccinos, a pistachio croissant, and marzipan danish (because we had to try a Dutch danish). There are a few tables in the back, but you have to let the person know before hand if you are dining in. I walked in and it was warm with no AC running at all. The princess cake had very little jam and the cream puff was average. The eclair cream was oddly tangy and when asked, they said it was raspberry flavored...however there was not any raspberry color and everyone who tried it had stomach issues later. Danish Mill Bakery has been in Solvang for over 60 years. You can come here for many different pastries and treats. My neighbor brought me a bucket of cookies here and every time I go to Solvang I have to come and pick up a bucket of their butter cookies. Their butter cookies are good and my co-workers even enjoy them. Each bucket comes with five dozen cookies. You can't go wrong with any of them. Danish Mill also sell other treats like Danishes, Danish cookies, cakes, truffles, macaroon, macarons, Kringle, homemade granola, Viking bread, and coffee.
