I was looking all over for an allergy friendly vegan option to eat. My husband is also vegan but doesn't have allergies. So for him it's been a tiny bit easier to eat while here in Solvang. For me? Not at all. Until we walked into the Fudge Kitchen. Known for their delicious pretzels, we figured we'd ask if they were vegan and allergen friendly. I want to say a HUGE thank you to the owner (I believe he was the owner) because he was kind enough to not only tell us the ingredients, show us the spray used and help us, but he also explained the process to us and took the time to prepare two separate pretzels for us that didn't contain the butter on top. The pretzels alone are vegan but once they come out of the stove they are brushed with butter. He went above and beyond for us and we are so grateful! The pretzels are extremely fresh and delicious! Stopped into this fudge shop as it was the only one still open at 6pm on a Thursday. There is nowhere to sit inside as it's just a counter. There was nobody inside, but I felt rushed to make a decision by the employees and I was puzzled to see they only offered fudge by the slice, which is rather large. I wish they allowed you to purchase half slices, so I could try more flavors. Honestly I think I would have bought more had they offered this option. The Dark Chocolate with Walnuts was by far the best in my opinion, followed by Milk Chocolate with Macadamia. The Maple Pecan fudge was way too sweet and could have used more salt or something else to balance out the flavor. I was so distracted by the amazing looking fudge and felt rushed to order infront of the display case that I didn't even had time to snap any photos of the fudge! I did order a piece of candy cane fudge that had crushed candy cane pieces on the top of my fudge slice and then I got a peanutbutter fudge slice. Fudge slices are about 5 inches long, 2.5 inches high and 1 inch thick. Sadly, the candy cane pieces didn't last long since its sugar and dissolved from the moisture of the fudge by the next day. But my candy cane fudge has a great flavor and I am working on eating about two 1x1x1 a night. My adult son has never liked fudge and he has managed to eat his peanutbutter fudge in 4 days so I guess it was good! They sell more than just fudge too! They have fresh peanut brittle and caramel apples. Packaged candies like Swedish fish, salt water taffy and gummy candies. The fudge is definitely the lure for this shop as most people were ordering a slice or two. They sell them by the slice for half a pound. I was overwhelmed by the choices that they had and I wish they offered samples. So many flavors to choose from. I ultimately decided on chocolate raspberry and chocolate pecan. Since they don't melt and don't require any refrigeration, I brought it home to share with my family the day after since I was returning home. There was a line going out the door but it's a small store with no seating available. That said the line moved fast and the people at the counter were all smiles. The fudge comes in a size like a slice of bread but quadruple the thickness....you get a lot of fudge! Wow, their fudge is decadent, sweet and creamy...I don't think we knew what we were doing when we ordered 3 flavors...because it's a lot! Almost every store front had a Christmas tree set up outside, some themed to whatever goods the store sold. As I was strolling along by this store, I saw their Christmas tree was decorated in PRETZELS! I'm a true foodie, even my tree at home is covered in food ornaments so I just knew I had to have one of these pretzels to bring home with me. I popped in to ask if they sold the pretzel ornaments but they unfortunately did not. HOWEVER, the nice young man helping me said if I wanted, I could just take one off the tree. I couldn't believe my ears and thanked him a bajillion times before running out to grab my ornament. Seriously! There are also mustard packets by the register as well. I thought the pretzel was good and the size was fair for the price. The side of cheese reminded me of the cheddar cheese you get in the Handi-Snacks cheese and crackers packet. The pretzels were so fresh and delicious. I went on a Saturday (in December, so prime time for them) and the workers were rolling the dough and braiding them as fast as they could. They were working so hard and everyone appreciated it. The fudge was also spectacular. I always buy at least three different flavors each time I come. I am updating my review, based on the high level of customer service I received from Don, the business owner. He was receptive to me not having the best experience and wanted to make things right. Don shipped me three flavors of their fudge, including chocolate walnut, which was in my original order. He also spoke to me about why the batch I received in person could have not been ideal for my tastes and was willing to let me try it again! I tried the dark chocolate, the chocolate walnut, and the Oreo fudge. Upon my second experience I must say that this fudge is spectacular. All three of the fudge samples I received had a slightly hardened outside with an extremely creamy and soft inside. This is exactly how fudge should be and they nailed it. The dark chocolate is perfect for anybody who wants something that is familiar and simple, it has a great dark chocolate taste. The chocolate walnut is delicious, the walnuts taste fresh and add greatly to the fudge. The Oreo is my favorite, I am a sucker for anything Oreo and I loved how much I could taste the Oreos in their Oreo fudge.
