I stopped in for an ice cream cone. I saw the large scoop on the cones & cup for the three young girls ahead of me, so I ordered a single scoop cone. It was the smallest scoop I've ever seen (about the size of a golf ball) and it was melting down the cone when he handed it to me. My husband had already paid $6.50. I asked the server if he was joking and he said "why, do you want more"? I told him yes, this was tiny, and he said "you ordered a single". I walked out and will never go back. There are tons of good ice cream shops around here and this isn't one of them. read more

I was looking all over for an allergy friendly vegan option to eat. My husband is also vegan but doesn't have allergies. So for him it's been a tiny bit easier to eat while here in Solvang. For me? Not at all. Until we walked into the Fudge Kitchen. Known for their delicious pretzels, we figured we'd ask if they were vegan and allergen friendly. I want to say a HUGE thank you to the owner (I believe he was the owner) because he was kind enough to not only tell us the ingredients, show us the spray used and help us, but he also explained the process to us and took the time to prepare two separate pretzels for us that didn't contain the butter on top. Absolutely adored the staff. They were able to identify what products were used in each ingredient and go get help to review additional ingredients on items they were unsure about. We visited nearly every desert location in Solvang and you were the only ones who knew exactly what was in your ingredient list except for a local fruit stand because that was just fruit. You guys were able to make me a pretzel without butter due to my lactose intolerance, and were able to identify three different fudges for my children to stuff their mouths happily that they will not have any reactions to. Stopped into this fudge shop as it was the only one still open at 6pm on a Thursday. There is nowhere to sit inside as it's just a counter. There was nobody inside, but I felt rushed to make a decision by the employees and I was puzzled to see they only offered fudge by the slice, which is rather large. I wish they allowed you to purchase half slices, so I could try more flavors. Honestly I think I would have bought more had they offered this option. The Dark Chocolate with Walnuts was by far the best in my opinion, followed by Milk Chocolate with Macadamia. The Maple Pecan fudge was way too sweet and could have used more salt or something else to balance out the flavor. I was so distracted by the amazing looking fudge and felt rushed to order infront of the display case that I didn't even had time to snap any photos of the fudge! I did order a piece of candy cane fudge that had crushed candy cane pieces on the top of my fudge slice and then I got a peanutbutter fudge slice. Fudge slices are about 5 inches long, 2.5 inches high and 1 inch thick. Sadly, the candy cane pieces didn't last long since its sugar and dissolved from the moisture of the fudge by the next day. But my candy cane fudge has a great flavor and I am working on eating about two 1x1x1 a night. My adult son has never liked fudge and he has managed to eat his peanutbutter fudge in 4 days so I guess it was good! They sell more than just fudge too! They have fresh peanut brittle and caramel apples. Packaged candies like Swedish fish, salt water taffy and gummy candies. The fudge is definitely the lure for this shop as most people were ordering a slice or two. Almost every store front had a Christmas tree set up outside, some themed to whatever goods the store sold. As I was strolling along by this store, I saw their Christmas tree was decorated in PRETZELS! I'm a true foodie, even my tree at home is covered in food ornaments so I just knew I had to have one of these pretzels to bring home with me. I popped in to ask if they sold the pretzel ornaments but they unfortunately did not. HOWEVER, the nice young man helping me said if I wanted, I could just take one off the tree. I couldn't believe my ears and thanked him a bajillion times before running out to grab my ornament. Seriously! This was the highlight of my trip and the perfect souvenir to bring home for my Christmas tree. Thank you to the guy here for making me such a happy girl!
