We had a wonderful experience at Coast Range and couldn't have had a more different experience from our first visit. Kudos to the restaurant for addressing many of the issues we experienced previously! We started with the CAESAR SALAD, added chicken, and asked for it extra chopped. It was excellent. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and we especially enjoyed the added sunflower seeds, which gave the salad a nice texture and something a little different. The PARKER HOUSE ROLLS were fine, although we still feel that for $11, the serving should include more than two rolls. The PAN SEARED SCALLOPS were absolutely delicious--nicely seared and served with a corn salad/pudding that complemented them beautifully. The STUFFED BAKED POTATO was another standout. It was almost like a unique take on a twice-baked potato, with a wonderfully crispy skin and a generous amount of bacon and baked cheddar. Sour cream and butter were served alongside it. We've never had a baked potato prepared quite this way, and it was absolutely delicious. The STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING was the finishing touch. It was good, although we would have loved a little more caramel sauce. We also really enjoyed the ambiance. We sat in a comfortable booth with a nice view toward the front of the restaurant. Our booth had some interesting artwork with an old-man-of-the-sea feel, along with fishing lures and other nautical touches. The darker, moodier feel of the booth and the warm lighting gave the space a lot of character and made it a really comfortable place to settle in for dinner. Overall, the food was excellent, the service was fantastic, and we were very impressed by how much our experience improved from our first visit. The dog has "retired" and gone to live on a farm. In general it might get accolades because there's not much else in Solvang. IMHO it's good not great. After a week on the road, I was craving something delicious and packed with protein for both myself and my child. As we passed by, the enticing menu caught our eyes, especially the children's skirt steak and fries--exactly what I wanted for her! However, I have to admit, the prices were on the higher side, which is typical for this type of restaurant. Still, given what we were paying, I was surprised by the lack of attention to detail, especially regarding cleanliness. There was quite a bit of dust on the ledge near our table, which triggered my allergies and led to a couple of sneezes. To add to the disappointment, our rolls arrived well after our entrées. By the time we finally got them, they were cold and a bit hard. When they did reach our table, a server in training accidentally dropped a salt and pepper shaker into our plate of rolls, and surprisingly, didn't seem to think twice about it. On a brighter note, our main server was delightful, and the beef stroganoff was nothing short of heavenly. The meat was incredibly tender, and the mushrooms swimming in red wine sauce were a true highlight. I did find it a bit off-putting to see a surprise 2% surcharge tagged on to cover labor expenses. Honestly, I'd prefer higher menu prices that reflect the actual costs, rather than this nickel-and-dime approach. Employees deserve fair wages, but those extra fees can be frustrating. After all was said and done, my child's meal, my beef stroganoff, and just two rolls--with tax, a tip, and that extra charge--brought our total to just under $100. When I asked to take my leftovers home, I was handed a container to pack it all myself. Maybe it's just me, but when I'm spending that kind of money, I expect a bit more attentive service. read more

Avoid at All Costs Because Joey Another bad review for Joey, the condescending and grumpy owner who goes out of his way to humiliate his own staff and customers. (Just search "Joey" in the reviews.) Forgot to finish this review, but my wife reminded me not to dine here when we visit this July 2026. In May of 2024, friends of mine came by to visit with me, my wife, and my daughter. We love Solvang and chose to dine here because of a fine experience we had in 2022: we had a great baseball steak and good service with the otherwise fantastic old school ambiance. But that was before Joey. During check in, Joey decided to mumble some audible nonsense about being smart enough to read the sign, and the feeling was that he was judging my company for the sneakers and shirt he was wearing. I think Joey thinks he's got money and has license to treat diners like crap. I read the disaster reviews about Joey, and I pray for your soul. (Nonetheless, I write this review as a warning because free speech.) But I can guarantee that my friend is a quite well off restaurateur without the need for partners, and I think we are all doing quite fine compared to Joey's clearly bankrupt sense of common decency showcased over many years apparently. We have been to some of the most ridiculously expensive restaurants and hotels in the world, and the service was top notch. To be mistreated at a place without even a star is laughable. *Brunch Review* We ordered shrimp cocktail, this was the best we have ever had. They were cleaned well and came with an amazing avocado shrimp cocktail sauce that was so good! It also came with fried crackers. I didn't like them, but my husband loved them. The french toast looked amazing, I will have to try next time. My husband got eggs Benedict. He loved it. The English muffins were house made, delicious sauce, thinly sliced ham, poached eggs perfectly cooked. I got fish and chips. The chips were malted wedge potatoes. It seemed like normal wedge potatoes, i didnt taste any malted flavor. The fish was rockfish. It was definitely fresh, really good, you could almost taste the sea. The batter was very very light and crunchy. They only thing I would say is it was a little oily. The tartar sauce was good, nothing unusual. There was a side of fresh greens, not cole slaw. They were very lightly dressed and exceptionally fresh, like just picked from someone's garden. If you love cole slaw you may be disappointed, if you love fresh greens you will be happy. My husband got a bloody Mary. It was quite tasty. Spicy and you could taste the horseradish. The olives were really good (I'm an olive lover). Coffee was excellent. Jared was our server and he was amazing. We had constant refills of our coffee and water from the staff. The patio was very nice and perfect for people watching. I loved the BTG wine list. What an amazing dinner at Coast Range. We were welcomed by the friendly and professional Reina sat us at a lovely booth. Ciana and Ella took great care of us with Kye and Abraham assisting. We started with drinks and appetizers. My wife had the Gin cocktail and I had an amazing Margarita recommended by Ciana. We also ordered the buttered rolls and the grilled artichoke. Simply amaging and what a wonderful and therapeutic ambiance. For our entrees my wife had the Tapioca crusted snapper entree and I had the filet mignon with a side of the potatoe puree and spinach crusted delight. Oh my so good and alot of food. We ended up taking some home for tomorrow. Ella was so sweet helping us put everything in containers etc. The still bottled water was also refreshing as was the iced tea that I had after my drink. We went on a Friday morning and it wasn't busy at all. We sat outside and the weather was perfect. The service was good, not as observant since there was only 1 server and she was behind the bar most of the time. It looked like she was working as hostess, server, and bartender? So she was doing amazing balancing all of those. Other than that the food was great. The chips were pretty soggy at the start for the chilaquiles so not sure if it was sitting out for a while before she brought it out. Brunch at Coast Range completely lived up to the hype and honestly, this place deserves every bit of its Michelin recognition. The food feels thoughtful without trying too hard, and every dish had so much flavor packed into it. The Crispy Pork Belly Sandwich was the standout for me. The gochujang Coca Cola glaze gave it that perfect sweet and savory balance, while the snap pea slaw added freshness and crunch. And somehow the brown butter cashew butter tied everything together in the best way possible. The Wagyu Pastrami Sandwich was just as memorable, rich, juicy, and super satisfying. The Swiss cheese, horseradish cream, sauerkraut aioli, and beef jus all worked so well together without overpowering the wagyu. We were really impressed by the Michelin Star stickers in the window for the last 4 years - that had to mean something! We were seated right away as we had arrived a few minutes after they opened. The inside was dark, but cozy. For drinks, I ordered the Vaquero Martini which was pretty good and my husband ordered an Old Fashioned - we thought it was very strange that it came in a glass with a bunch of ice instead of a giant cube or sphere. The food items were a bit pricy so my husband and I decided to split some appetizers - Artichokes, French Onion Soup and the Skirt Steak. We ordered the Kids Bolognese Pasta which our daughter loved - I wish my husband and I could have said the same thing about what we ordered. I did enjoy the French Onion Soup the best, but we have made much better artichokes at home and the skirt steak was barely seasoned. Overall, staff were very friendly, but the food was not worth the price point at all in our opinion. Everything was honestly mid - we had high hopes considering all of the Michelin Star recognitions. I know we only ordered appetizers, but we thought it would have given us a little taste of everything. Upon entering the restaurant, we were happily greeted by the maître-d', Chelsea, who gladly saw us to our table, as we were a bit early for our reservations. My wife and I decided our selections quickly. Our appetizers were the Blackened Scallops and the Caesar's Salad, which we both shared. Leaving the best for last, my Miso Cod was absolute perfection, as it was generously flavoured with a light, black garlic oil, shiitake mushrooms, and a beautifully sweet glaze, matched only by its flaky texture and consistency that melted with every succulent bite. Our dessert consisted of a small bundtlet date cake accentuated with a sweet caramel toffee sauce laid on a bed of toffee pieces and matched with a scoop of creamy vanilla gelato brought together to assemble sweet dreams of toffee goodness. Looking for a dog-friendly restaurant with cocktails close to our hotel after a drive up from Pasadena. Coast Range seemed to check all the boxes, and they had an available reservation on the patio. We got (for us) the perfect table, which was a small area next to the entrance. Actually only our table, which was great for containing our puppy, plus a heat lamp and service over the pony wall which worked out great! We started with delicious cold, crisp martinis with blue cheese stuffed olives and a bowl of water for our pup. Our server (Chelsea B?) was so fun and friendly! We then had maybe the best wedge salad we've ever had! I think the lettuce was cut to, but not thru, the base, and opened up, with toppings inside. Roasted beet cubes, bacon, blue cheese and shallots, plus cherry tomatoes, hard boiled egg quarters and fried shallots garnish. It was incredible. I think they should call it "More than a Wedge." We also had the Ahi crudo, which had a delicious sauce and thinly sliced peppers. I wasn't too hungry, so had the French onion soup as my main course. So, it definitely didn't taste anything like French onion soup! It looked like it, and it was definitely cooked down onions but the flavor wasn't anything like I'd expect. However, it was really delicious and satisfied my craving for something warm & cheesy. So if you go in knowing that, I think you'll enjoy it. I don't like lamb, so my husband often gets it when we go out. When he took his first bite, I could tell he enjoyed it. He said it was some of the best lamb he's had and he's had a lot! It's à la carte, but did come with a tiny bit of salad and a roasted pepper which he thought was perfect. We made reservations ahead of time for dinner at Coast Range and had a great overall experience. Upon arrival, we had the option of sitting inside or outside. The dining room was beautiful and would make a great date night spot with its quieter atmosphere, but it felt a little warm for our liking, so we chose to sit outside. The patio was comfortable, and the staff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout the evening. We started with the grilled skirt steak, ordered medium rare, although it came out closer to medium well. Fortunately, the sesame-cilantro marinade and pickled vegetables brought plenty of flavor to the dish and made up for the temperature miss. For our entrée, we shared the Creekstone ribeye. We ordered it medium rare, but it arrived closer to medium. Despite that, the steak was still very tasty. We paired it with the glazed wild mushrooms, which ended up being my favorite item of the savory dishes, along with the Stuffed Shell "Mac n' Cheese." Everything arrived hot and was well prepared. We also ordered a few cocktails, which were okay but didn't stand out. A little more attention behind the bar would have elevated the experience even further. Halfway through dinner, I asked for Maldon sea salt for the steak, and the team happily accommodated the request, which was appreciated. The highlight of the night was easily the Brown Butter Brioche Donuts for dessert. Absolutely fantastic. Soft, rich, and packed with flavor. They were the perfect way to end the meal and the one dish I'd tell everyone to order. When my friend and I first walked in, we were enthusiastically greeted by the Hostess who was at the front desk that proudly had the Michelin Stars on display. We had a reservation, since it was a Friday night, and I was shocked that this place wasn't completely packed with people (they DO have a nice patio, and there were a lot of people out there). The vibe and decor is what I would describe as "Classy Western". Sort of Wild West, but a bit more upscale than traditional western-style restaurants. Ciana was our server, and could not have been any more delightful! She took great care of us. And as an added bonus, she was able to tell us not only about the menu items, but could also recommend certain wines to pair with them. We could tell she wasn't just throwing suggestions out there; she knew her stuff! By the way - the wine list in incredible (quite extensive with key regions and varietals represented)! My friend and I both had the Chicken Cordon Bleu, which came with a small "pot" of some of the most incredible mashed potatoes I have ever had. The entree was just melt-in-your-mouth fantastic, and the sauce just tied everything together so well. Perfect balance of chicken, breading, cheese, and ham. For dessert, my friend got the donuts (two generous-sized, by the way, so this could easily be shared), which are dipped in a brown-butter glaze that will change your life! I opted for the apple tart, which was fantastic (and could be shared, but is also proportionate for one person). This is Michelin-Star dining at what I would consider to be a reasonable price; especially for the quality of food and service we received. Since our table wasn't quite ready, they invited us to grab a drink at the attached bar while we waited. This review is specifically about the bar. I was surprised that the bar at a Michelin-starred restaurant didn't have a blender, as it seemed to limit the cocktail options available to guests. My husband's friend asked for a lemon martini and then inquired about a lemon daiquiri. The response from the bartender, Monica, made the request seem unusual or overly complicated, which made the interaction feel less welcoming than expected. I'm sorry but Monica could sure use some tips on customer service and professionalism. I watched this interaction from where I was sitting nearby and it was cringy. If certain cocktails can't be prepared because of equipment or menu limitations, that's completely understandable. However, it would be helpful if those limitations were communicated in a more guest-friendly way and accompanied by alternative recommendations. At a restaurant of this caliber, I'd expect the bar experience to reflect the same level of hospitality as the dining room. Michelin recognized spot in Solvang. Had a reservation for 4 on a Friday at 7pm but they seated us late even though we arrived 3 minutes early. It was busy when we arrived, but even as the night went on and there were less people, it still took an hour and a half to receive our entrees. My dad literally sobered up during our dinner even after a bottle of wine - we spent a lot of time waiting at the restaurant, whether it was to order, get plates cleared, or get water. Food-wise, it was decent but not Michelin quality. We had the crispy mozzarella arugula salad and crispy rice spicy tuna to start. The spicy tuna was not spicy but the crispy rice had a nice texture. The salad was well dressed and the mozzarella with mortadella was a good offset to the bitterness of the arugula. I split the rib eye with my boyfriend and ordered medium rare, but certain parts were cooked medium well. I think the steak rested too long underneath the heat lamp, because my mom's filet mignon was supposed to be medium, but seemed more well done. They do have French fries (not on the menu); we had mushrooms on the side but those arrived a bit cold. We ended with the brownie sundae, which was my favorite part of the meal. To their credit, the chef gave us a 10% discount for waiting so long for our meal. We appreciated the gesture very much. I was really looking forward to eating here based on good reviews and Michelin star rating. It was a total let down. First, I want to say service was great. The rating is for the food. We ordered half a dozen oysters and the potato pierogies as our starters. I know oysters come in all sizes, but to be charging $32 for the oysters we were served is crazy. We order oysters often and have never seen oysters as small as the ones we were served. Didn't ask where they were from, and didn't get a picture, but you probably wouldn't be able to see them in the photo anyway because they were so tiny. The pierogies tasted like they came frozen and were reheated in the microwave. For our main dish, we ordered the cod and a side of asparagus. The asparagus was tasty, so you could say that was the best thing we ordered. The cod was tasteless and the sides it was served on (no idea what all was on the plate) were hard and cold. They also only offer gender neutral bathrooms which require cleaning on a regular basis throughout the night and that clearly wasn't happening. They were disgusting. Not what I would expect from a restaurant with their prices. I would not recommend this restaurant. This meal was not worth the $200 we spent. We had better fish and chips at Fitzpatrick's Tavern down the street. Try them and save yourself $150. read more

I was honestly surprised (in the best way) that a Michelin Guide restaurant would be so welcoming and allow us to bring our dog. That level of hospitality really stood out. The food was amazing from start to finish. Unfortunately, the service fell far short of a Michelin star standard. Upon arrival, I approached the male host to ask if they were accepting walk-ins. Without making eye contact, he abruptly told me that only bar seating was available. I thanked him, and he responded with a dismissive "uh huh." Not exactly a warm welcome. We proceeded to the bar around 5:30 p.m., roughly 30 minutes after opening. The bar area is small, seating about 14 guests, and it was full with two bartenders working. After sitting for five minutes, no one greeted us. One member of my party eventually had to walk up to a bartender to request menus. She told us she would bring drink menus shortly and gave us the food menu. After reviewing the food menu, we waited another five minutes--still no water, no check-in, no acknowledgment. I made eye contact with the second male bartender, who simply stared back without saying a word. We continued waiting while watching other guests receive attentive service, drinks, and food. Eventually, we approached the same lady bartender again to ask if we could order. Her response was, "You're ready?"--which was surprising given that she had previously said she would come to us. During the time we were waiting, I observed her making drinks, chatting with other guests, and even taking a moment to use her phone to adjust the bar's music when it went quiet. Yet we remained unacknowledged in the corner. When she finally came over to take our order, there was no apology for the delay, no introduction, and no thank you for waiting. Basic courtesies that are expected at any restaurant--especially one with a Michelin distinction--were absent. Our food eventually arrived, and only then were we brought water. By that point, we were simply ready to eat and leave. While waiting for the check, a new party of two sat at the bar, and I watched as the same lady bartender warmly greeted them and promptly offered menus. The contrast in service was difficult to ignore. Even if we did not have a reservation, we were still paying customers and expected to be treated with professionalism and courtesy. The host was simultaneously seating guests on the patio, which made the initial dismissal even more confusing given that reviews describe the restaurant as accommodating to walk-ins with a wait. I rarely write reviews unless the experience is exceptional--either positively or negatively. While the food was decent, I struggle to understand the Michelin recognition based on this visit. Service is a fundamental part of fine dining, and unfortunately, this experience put a damper on what was meant to be a special evening. I hate to do this, but this visit wasn't what we were expecting. Prior visit has been great but today, it was totally lacking everything. I get that's it's the weekend and everyone is out and about enjoying the holiday season. We stopped by for a late lunch right before 3 pm. There was maybe 2 people right infront of us waiting. But a good amount of tables open on the patio. As we had a dog with us, it was outside seating. Checked in with the hostess which it would be at least 20-30 minutes wait. Ok, that's fine but there were open tables available. We sat along the front just waiting and did noticed that they were moving tables together. A table for 6 was already set but another table added to make 8. A big group it seemed like. But still some tables open and people are waiting. 15 minutes later, they moved one of the tables back and we texted to let us know our table was ready. And guess where we were seated, the table they moved back. Anyways.... Menu, it was pretty much basic. I believe it's the same as breakfast/brunch. Not a lot to choose from. Oh, as we were waiting earlier, trying to get a drink at the bar was non existent. Service was so slow that we gave up. Once we were seated, we ordered a beer and an ice tea. Minutes later, we ordered our meal. Fried chicken sandwich, pastrami sandwich and a side order or fries. Food came pretty fast but drinks still hadn't come out yet. A beer and ice tea, nothing major but it took forever to come even after our food. Sandwich was ok, but side order of fries was basically like a handful on a plate with ketchup. Very disappointing. The sandwiches were à la carte which we didn't know. Good thing we order the sprinkle of fries. And a side order of patty for the pup which was about 9.00. Service wasn't really good this visit. Our waiter was sweet at least. I don't know if they're short staff or not equipped for holiday rush but it wasn't nice. The whole time throughout our meal, not once did I get a refill on the drink even when he asked me if I wanted one. And when they brought out the food, asked for a side or ranch which they didn't have but was offered an aioli sauce. Did that come out, nope. This visit was just not up to par from the great experience prior. Plus there was dog that belong to the staff which we found out. He's cute and all but it made it a little tough with our meal as he basically stayed at our table the whole time which made it hard for our dog to eat. He was smelling the beef...lol... He basically just wander around the restaurant going from tables to table. Cute and all but still. I hate to give this review but sometimes you just have to say how it is. Service wasn't great. And the whole time we were there, the table for 6 stayed emptied even through there were people waiting for a table. Do we give it another try, I don't know.... read more

I'm extremely disappointed in this restaurant. We saw the recommendation on an Instagram reel, the Michelin Guide rating, and the unique and flavorful appetizer selection and were excited to try but were left wanting, especially given the final price. I think whoever designed the menu had only read about multinational cuisine in recipe cards but had never actually tasted any of it themselves (or their taste buds were knocked out by covid). Case in point: - The crispy rice ahi tuna appetizer had a fun texture of crispy rice layered with raw tuna but it tasted like somebody had poured, and I mean poured, straight soy sauce on top. It was so salty, even for someone with a high salt tolerance. But the biggest annoyance was how one-note the sauce was - it could have been so much more complex with the addition of some citrus or something - The crispy pork belly appetizer was again just straight doused in gochujang - way too salty to be edible without rice but again so one-note. You'd think a Michelin guide restaurant would know how make a sauce with more than one ingredient? - The skirt steak appetizer had fine meat but the pickled vegetables on the side weren't even pickled. It was just straight cucumber - The big shell Mac and cheese was a cute idea of 4 large shells filled with cheese sauce but the oiled used to cook the dish was old and distracted from the cheese taste - The caesar salad was the one good we ordered as it should be. In addition to the poor flavors, I have to comment on the poor service of the restaurant. I'm not always a heckler for service but for this price I have to call out some indignities. With a reservation we were seated outside on the patio in the freezing cold but it took so long for someone to come out and give us water or turn on the patio heater. Like noticeably long. Throughout our meal we received more service from our busboy than the waiter himself. We ate at Coast Range for our NYE dinner while staying in Solvang, and the ambiance was definitely the highlight. The decor is beautiful with vintage European vibes--cozy booths, elegant, and perfect for a special night. Our server was super sweet too. We started with the tuna crispy rice (so good) and the blackened scallops. Unfortunately, the scallops were very salty. We rarely send food back, but they were inedible. The staff was kind and brought out a new order, though it was still pretty salty (possibly the pan). For mains, the NY steak came out medium instead of medium rare, the lobster tail was average, and the glazed mushrooms were also on the salty side. The shallot demi-glaze we ordered on the side was actually pretty good. Dessert saved the night. The sticky toffee pudding was good but very sweet, and the Toastie Coastie was delicious. It was a soft, gooey brookie with chocolate and toasted marshmallow crème. The cocktails were good as well. Overall, the tuna crispy rice and Toastie Coastie were the clear standouts. We stumbled on this place while walking around Solvang during December so all the Christmas lights and decorations were up and this place was very inviting. Didn't even bother to check reviews, just decided to try it. They were booked out so we managed to sit at the bar (which was just as nice). They played country music and they were ALL hits. We ordered the skirt steak, scallops, spicy tuna on crispy rice, and french onion soup (all starters on the menu) and it was so yummy I didn't even manage to take a picture of it unfortunately because I was so caught up on the amazing atmosphere. The food choices were recommended by the bartender and they did not disappoint. AMAZING! So yummy. I also got a holiday drink (peppermint espresso martini ultimately), and this was phenomenal. I was really disappointed with this restaurant. The host put down my number wrong so my reservation was later than expected. The decor was pretty cool. It had an old steakhouse vibe with a splash of elegance. The food was what I was really disappointed in. With all the Michelin Guide accolades I was expecting the food to be above average. For a Steakhouse, they did not have prime cuts. The 16oz ribeye I ordered was chewy and overcooked (I wanted it rare but it came out medium). The Artichoke barely had any "artichoke meat."
