We went here for an early dinner. The service was great and very friendly. We ordered the burgers, but they were just okay. The red wine was good. I wish I had ordered a steak. You get a relish tray and a dessert with your meal. I looked all around for Sideways photos, but couldn't find any. The bar was crowded - so maybe I missed it. It's pretty casual for a steak house - but comfortable.

This place has been a family spot for us for almost 20 years. We'll sometimes go a year or two without visiting, but we always end up coming back eventually. Watching them cook the meat over the wood fire is still one of the coolest parts of the experience. The smell hits you immediately when you walk in. I also recently found out they do burger specials on certain weekdays and honestly it was one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. Just one of those places that's always been around for us and probably always will be. I'll definitely keep coming back.

Okay Yelpers. We are in Solvang for the night and decided to visit the Hitching Post II of Sideways fame down the road in Buellton. The bar was jammed of course so we were seated in the dining room. I really wanted a steak and I was not disappointed. I had the 15 oz Prime Sirloin medium rare seasoned with their proprietary "magic stuff". Mrs Billy D had the double pork chops. The meals came with baked potatoes but I added rice pilaf as well. Our appetizer was a grilled and smoked artichoke. It was cut in half and hollowed out then grilled and seasoned with you guessed it " magic stuff". There was a mildly spicy sauce but truly the artichoke was so flavorful it didn't need the sauce. Mrs Billy D had a glass of their proprietary Hitching Post Highliner Pinot Noir which was "tighter than a nun's a$$hole" (movie quote). It was fun visiting the restaurant. I didn't see any photos of the movie or actors hanging around but I didn't really look hard. Prices were average for a tourist town. We would come back if our travels find us here again.

A great prix fixe deal for their 40th anniversary

So dependable and always a fun dinner at the bar. Arrived at 4:30 on a Thursday for a solo dinner. The World Cup was playing at the bar but sound turned down so not intrusive. They have a $40 dinner special going to celebrate their 40th anniversary. A great deal, especially with the sirloin! Had mine medium rare (perfect doneness) with French fries (perfect) and a fresh and plentiful green salad with their delicious, thick blue cheese dressing. I loved that the relish tray had salt-cured black olives - look out for the pits. Also included in the special 40th anniversary is a scoop of ice cream or sherbet (I had the S'mores flavor and it was great). Bartenders were attentive and friendly. I enjoyed their HP Chenin Blanc ($14) and their HP Kick On Pinot Noir ($14, a lighter Pinot, loved it and bought a bottle for $45). The big parking lot has pretty flowers and plenty of spaces. Love coming here for a tasty oak-grilled steak.

Outstanding! I have been to the restaurant for dinner after 4pm. Always a great spot for a perfect steak. Today, for the first time stopped by for a quick sandwich in the winery section and oh my! Simply wonderful steak and onion sandwich. It was so delicious that I forgot to take a photo of the whole sandwich with fry's. . Tender, soft, flavorful etc. the bread. I mean everything was a 10. I didn't try the wine but the barbecue was just fantastic. Highly recommended

It was delicious! I got the pink dry Rose 2024 The chicken tortilla soup SoHo New York steak side of fries Steak was medium well! Everything was amazing and I love the moving sideways!

I wanted to love this place given the reputation, but it honestly felt overrated. We had a reservation but still ended up waiting 15 minutes just to be seated, which makes you wonder what the point of booking ahead is. Once the food arrived, the seasoning was just too much-everything felt over-seasoned to the point where it masked the actual flavor of the meat. The strangest part, though, was the "veggie tray." I didn't really understand getting a whole raw green onion as part of the spread.

Delicious steak and great service! I've been here twice now and be forewarned if you're coming on a weekend and don't have a reservation you're going to have to wait a bit. Great wine selection and a good, to-the-point menu, but of course you have to get the steak! The first time here, we sat right in the two bar seats that they sit at in the movie Sideways, and the second time we were lucky enough to snag a table right near the window where you can see them cooking the steaks. The artichoke app is also simple and delicious. Can't go wrong here for a meal while in town wine tasting and enjoying the ambiance!

This experience was just whatever. We normally always have an amazing time whenever we're here. This particular visit, we were showing friends around the area and stopped off for happy hour. Which we thought they had.... It was quite busy in the bar area but we were able to find a little spot in the corner with a high table and seats available. We wanted the bar area but were told that we needed to check in and put our name down. Well, we then checked in and put it down incase an opening arise. Asked about the happy hour which we were then told that they didn't have any. Odd when you pulled it up online it said that they offered it. We even showed the bartender which he was surprise to see. Then we asked about their burger deal which it was also online but found out it was only on a Monday. Whoever was in charge of their website needs to update it. Even the bartender was surprised to see it. Anyways, we ended up just grabbing some drinks. It didn't table long to arrive which was nice. By the way, with the seating at the bar. We did noticed that some did open up but people who walked in just seated themselves. Not sure why we had to put our name down as it seemed like it was open seating. Anyways, I've alway love this place for a meal. Both inside the restaurant or having a meal along the bar area. But this visit was just whatever. It's a good thing it was only for drinks. Experience may have been different if it was for dinner. Overall, I do like their menu. It's a staples in Buellton/Solvang that's a favorite among people. It does get packed so reservations highly recommend. Even the bar area, it was pretty busy during the non existent happy hour. Bartender was nice which is always a good thing.

Drove to Solvang from LA. Not really impressed by this place. Food is good but honestly overpriced Service at the bar is great but at tables the service lacked. Menu says meals come with a side of raw veggies yet nobody at our table got any even though we ordered large meals. Hostess/Seating staff were also not too happy nor nice on this Friday evening. They said there were no tables of 6 or of 2 yet there were ppl being seated in 2s & 6s Ambiance is just ok. Nothing special at all.

Heard of this place from a show named Wine O! We were planning on coming to Solvang for Julefest so decided to try it out. The parking lot is massive and seems appropriate for the room inside. The inside reminds me of an old time steakhouse. Like a Cattlemen's for us in Northern California. We were seat quickly and the service was prompt. Trust me we did not leave hungry. Grilled artichoke, pork chops, ribeye steak, fries and baked potato. The meats were cooked to perfection. The pork chops had amazing flavor possibly my favorite. Do yourself a favor and if you like artichokes get the grilled one. The magic dust they season it with is fantastic. Definitely a place to get dinner when visiting the Solvang area.

    Salad and wine flight!

So great to finally come here for dinner as seen in the movie sideways. The food was incredible! Best steak I've had in a while. Morgan our server was very pleasant and attentive! The wine flight was fantastic!! Grilled artichoke was perfect!

Made 5pm reservations for a Friday night. This is our third visit within the last two months and our first for just the two of us. Front desk ladies very friendly. We were seated in our favorite booth. Server Tammy was terrific. Immediately we were brought a small tray of raw carrots, celery, green onions, radish, pickles, olives and pepperocini. Hubby always enjoys the Cadillac margarita here. We chose the 40th Anniversary special dinner again, and chose the small bowl of yummy pork pozole soup instead of the lovely small salad. We squeezed some of the juice from the pepperocinis into the pozole to make it a little hotter spice-wise. We each ordered the 7 oz top sirloin beef steak grilled medium rare and it was so delicious - perfectly cooked and seasoned. We grill and eat a lot of top-quality steaks at home and we're very picky, so when I write that we were happy with our steaks, we were. And the accompanying baked potatoes were hot and perfectly cooked with lots of butter and sour cream and a medium salsa on the side. For the included dessert of good quality ice cream we chose vanilla and strawberry.

IYKYK ;) **All Wine Snobs have left the Chat** *Vega Vineyard and Farm has entered the chat* Alright team Vega, sit back, kick your feet up, & just listen while I brag a little about you. It was a BEAUTIFUL November afternoon just 4 days prior to Thanksgiving. We were heading back south from Paso Robles & decided to make a little pit stop before getting all the way back home. So my wife looked up wineries in the area that were kid friendly & Vega was at the top of the list. Walking in, we noticed that they had a little restaurant right at the entrance, so we went to put our name down for a table. Unfortunately, the wait time was a little longer than we wanted to wait, only because we had the kids with us, but the hostess suggested if we didn't want to wait, that they had more food on the other end of the farm in "Pops Place". Other than the wine itself, eating the food in "Pops Place" was probably the best move we could have unintentionally made that day. (I'll explain in a bit) So we slowly made our way towards the other side of the farm/vineyard & all I can say is, what a gorgeous property it was. The farm life, the outdoors, the weather, & I was with my Fam. It couldn't have been a better day! Once we got to Pops Place, it was like we entered into a whole new world. A huge area for kids with a jungle gym, stations for outdoor games & activities, benches to sit, even private cabanas you can reserve (not sure if there is a cost) & of course a little shack to order food and wine! So remember earlier when I said eating in Pops Place was probably the best move we could have made that day, Well here are 3 reasons why! 1) We ordered the George's Greek Gyro Pita w/fries (a beef gyro with lettuce, tomato, onions & tzatziki wrapped in a pita) and.. OH. MY. GAWDDD It was so flippin' GOOD! It was so good, that I didn't even have time to snap a pic, let alone set it down after taking that 1st bite. It was complete perfection! 2) Chicken Strips & Fries from the kids menu w/a side of ranch.. Let's just say, The kids loved 'em. 3) We washed it all down w/a beautiful, crisp, perfect for a fall day, 2024 bottle of their finest ALBARIÑO. & it was, EXCELLENT!! After we sat & ate, let the kids get out all of their energy, the fun at Vega continued. From there, we headed to feed the livestock on the property (lettuce sold onsite for a few bucks). There were Chickens, Goats, Pigs, Emu's & Sheep, and the kids and myself had a blast feeding 'em. After that, we stopped off at one of their gift shops to browse all of the fun stuff. Of course, we got the kids their requested candy! The staff we interacted with while at Vega were all so kind, welcoming & made us feel apart of the extended Vega family. Because of this, we will definitely be coming back next time we pass through. So, & this is where YOU come in! The next time you are passing through Buellton, do yourself, your spouse and your kids, if you've got them, a HUGE favor: Come check out Vega Vineyard & Farm and tell me that I was right!

Once you cross the threshold of The Good Life, the Shakesperean feel continues but is also modernized with a glowing fireplace, plush arm chairs and high bar tables (plus bar seating) and floor to ceiling wine racks. The Good Life is a perfect ratio of Solvang tradition with hints of romance making it ideal for a casual beverage, tourist pop-in or memorable date night drink. The latter is exactly how my boyfriend and I happened to come across The Good Life as we were visiting Solvang from Los Angeles for the city's Christmas-time Julefest. We had just spent the evening making holiday memories among the city's Christmas trees, twinkling lights and sugary delights. Post Danish-dinner, we decided to wrap up our forever-Solvang memory with a drink at The Good Life. We were immediately greeted by the male manning The Good Life without any attitude or distaste towards us for coming in as he was preparing to close for the evening. If he was upset with us in any way - he certainly didn't show it! The Good Life features an amazing menu of local and international wines, beers, ales, meads, ciders, and ports that make The Good Life feel fancy-schmancy and artisan; but also, neighborhood friendly for your favorite hipster or friend next door. My boyfriend and I shared a cider (I wish I remembered the specific one but alas my memory evades me) while enjoying the atmosphere of warmth at The Good Life. Other customers sat in the plush chairs with notepads and tarot cards, an older couple arrived to cap off the evening and I enjoyed the view of my boyfriend in a medieval-Danish inspired cellar bar. The Good Life is standout at accommodating to all customers and making sure no one feels out of place. A bountiful tip as important as the bosom of a medieval bar wench: the bathroom at The Good Life is labeled as 'Office'. Don't worry, you won't walk in on someone preparing accounting books and the only business happening behind this door involves you and your private matters. The Good Life is delightful and unique but doesn't just stop there: it also differentiates itself with a truly impressive alcohol selection that allows you to be introduced to local, national, Danish and international bevies you have surely not tried prior. The Good Life is recommended for a drink on your next trip to the tourist-friendly city of Solvang. Even if you aren't pretending to be in medieval times...

My favorite bar and wine tasting downtown…read more Our server was super friendly and really took the time to tell us about each drink as he poured. The location is 21 and over which creates a really relaxing atmosphere. The drinks were so good we even bought a bottle to take home.
