Ok... first of all I called to see if I needed a reservation and was so happy to know that they didn't. The young man on the phone was incredibly kind. We walk into the beautiful ambience, we're greeted with such care and kindness. The food is outstanding. We had the ribeye which I highly recommend both pork and beef ribs. The service is over the top amazing I highly recommend this restaurant. Thank you Kimberly for such kindness and great service and Henry the most kind host.

The ambience is awesomely amazing, we love this place the food the steak is to die for, we get bacon wrapped shrimps that are just oh my goodness did I say to die 4×10 you have to try it. I think we came on an off night (July 4). They were slammed, but half the restaurant was closed off. I want to say there was maybe 3 waiters working that night. We got sat in the "bar" area. It was fine, that's where the sole waitress was. She was fine but after she took our order and realized we were sharing a full rack of ribs (family of 4, 2 small kids) she checked out after that. I guess at this point in her career as a server she can't read social cues (napkins on plate, antsy kids, no one eating anything) because we had to ask for our check and then 30 minutes later we were finally able to flag her down. Yes it was a holiday and I found out from the hostess that a few people did call off so I'll cut her some slack. She needed help big time and there was no management to be found. Wont be back but it was fun for the kids I'll say! FOOD: ribs were decent , they did "fall off" the bone but all the sides left something to be desired. The potatoes were cold, the salad was fine and the cauldron beef stew was hot and good with the beans. Kids loved the treasure box and the animals everywhere.

Have a big appetite, as they serve a nice cartoon pot of chili soup before dinner, and all orders come with a side of beans and salad. The avocado ranch is delicious. Ordered the top sirloin as med rare, came out very dry so next time will order it rare and w butter to keep it juicy. Great service and super friendly from all, which explains a lot of local coming in for dinner.

We ate at AJ's Spurs and were definitely impressed by the portion sizes--huge! It really makes the price worth it. With any meal, you get a full spread: Vaquero soup (served with salsa and chili beans on the side), salad, A.J. spuds (potatoes) for the table, and dessert--your choice of a root beer float or a vanilla sundae with chocolate syrup. I ordered the Cajun Chicken Tortellini (blackened chicken over cheese-stuffed tortellini with herb butter). The tortellini was a little lackluster and didn't have much flavor, but adding pepper helped. The chicken was definitely blackened and had that nice charred flavor. The soup was tasty--especially the vegetables. For salad, you can choose your dressing; I went with ranch, which was good and came with some beets. The sundae was simple but satisfying. My husband got the Chuckwagon (6 oz. top sirloin, 4 St. Louis pork ribs, and 4 shrimp scampi). The ribs were tender and full of flavor, the steak was cooked perfectly medium, and the shrimp was well-seasoned and delicious. The rice on the side was just okay--nothing memorable. Our biggest disappointment was that some of the food was lukewarm. The soup cooled off quickly, and both the potatoes and rice weren't served hot. Service was great, though--staff were very attentive, constantly checking in, refilling drinks, and clearing plates. All meals also come with a piece of Texas toast. The decor is very themed--think hunting lodge with fur skins and taxidermy everywhere. We were seated right away on a Saturday, which was nice. Overall, it was an okay experience. I might come back, but I'd probably try another place first just to compare.

Food was amazing. The ambiance was so chill and very cozy. Felt like I was eating at a friends house. Though it was very busy, I felt they provided excellent service. I had the Chicken Oscar and it did not disappoint. Portions are very filling. I'd def come back again the next time I'm in town.

AJ Spurs has really stepped up their game. The new manager is really on top of everything! He's cleaned up and rearranged and really just updated everything (and it NEEDED updating for sure)! They have a great western atmosphere and really fun ambiance. Kids and adults alike enjoy this restaurant. You can get delicious steak, or salmon, or a plethora of other options. Their onion rings might be some of the best onion rings I've ever had. Servers there have always been really kind and helpful. We threw our first murder mystery party there and the staff really nailed it. The manager had everything dialed in so that it came off seamlessly. I definitely highly recommend AJs for the food, the people, and for the atmosphere!

Log cabin , a million taxidermy wild animals , rustic wild west ambiance From the moment we sat down we were served the best vegetable stew in a mini cast iron pot and tequila beans ! Yes you read that correctly. They thought of everything and it's included with your meal. Our steaks were cooked to perfection. The calamari steak ... what !!?? Get it ! Our waitress Kimberly was super friendly and adorable, never missed a beat and treated us like old friends. Our server Chuck was delightful, energetic and so excited to welcome us as 1st timers. Not to mention a great smile and monster grip handshake (made hubby's day). We are not locals but would make the 3 1/2 hour drive just to eat at Aj's again. We had dinner last night at another local BBQ place and we choose AJ's hands down. Oh yeah and Rootbeer floats are included in your meal also. Yeah, you read that correctly also !! Enjoy !!! We sure did !!

Heading up the Wednesday for my birthday with my wife and daughter. Do we need to make reservations beforehand?

It wouldn't hurt to make reservations, but it isn't required.

Traveling up to solvang this weekend with our dog., is the restaurant dog friendly?

Is live music only Fri/Sat? Website said weekends but some reviews implied every day. We'll be there middle of the week. Thx

Great question! There is a calendar on the website (or use to be). Friday and Saturday seem to be the only consistent days either way. Hope that helps!!

Are their burgers quality meat or frozen Costco type?

Burgers are fresh as far as I know. No Costco meats here. They are one of the best places to eat in area. We eat there every time we are up there. Be sure to take your appetite if you. You get lots of food.

Do they have a happy hour?

We ordered the chicken picatta and sole picatta to-go, tipped despite not dining in, and drove 20 miles home. When we opened the boxes, both orders were incorrect. According to the board menu, the sole picatta comes with arugula, beets, pistachios, and potatoes (no capers), and the chicken picatta comes with capers, spinach, and potatoes. Instead, both dishes came with pasta and none of the listed sides. More concerning, the sole had capers--even though we specifically asked when ordering because my partner is allergic and were told it does not include them. Meanwhile, the chicken picatta, which should have had capers, had none. Portions were also quite small for the $22 price point. We tried calling the restaurant eight times with no answer. After contacting the liquor store it's located inside, we were told to call back in five minutes. When we did, the call wouldn't even go through. Since we couldn't reach anyone, we drove the 20 miles back to Buellton to request a refund. When I showed the chef the incorrect dishes, he insisted the picatta dishes come with pasta and produced a small, crumpled paper menu from under the counter showing that version. We were never given this menu and ordered solely from the board displayed above. There was no apology and no offer to remake the meals, only a refund when I requested it. The employee who originally helped us acknowledged they "haven't gotten around" to updating the board menu. Other reviews mention similar issues with discrepancies between the board and the paper menu, which suggests this is an ongoing problem. Thankfully, we received a refund and our tip back, but we drove a total of 60 miles and ended up without dinner, eventually eating at Blaze Pizza at 9:45pm after ordering from you at 6:15pm. Despite this disappointing experience, we would be willing to give your restaurant another try if complimentary meal vouchers could be offered. We understand that busy periods can lead to mistakes, but the lack of accountability and apology was the most frustrating part. Acknowledging errors and making things right builds trust. Photos of what was advertised versus what we received are attached. We hope for a better experience in the future; otherwise, we unfortunately will not return.

We started with delicious cold, crisp martinis with blue cheese stuffed olives and a bowl of water for our pup. Our server (Chelsea B?) was so fun and friendly! We then had maybe the best wedge salad we've ever had! I think the lettuce was cut to, but not thru, the base, and opened up, with toppings inside. Roasted beet cubes, bacon, blue cheese and shallots, plus cherry tomatoes, hard boiled egg quarters and fried shallots garnish. It was incredible. I think they should call it "More than a Wedge." We also had the Ahi crudo, which had a delicious sauce and thinly sliced peppers. I wasn't too hungry, so had the French onion soup as my main course. So, it definitely didn't taste anything like French onion soup! It looked like it, and it was definitely cooked down onions but the flavor wasn't anything like I'd expect. However, it was really delicious and satisfied my craving for something warm & cheesy. So if you go in knowing that, I think you'll enjoy it. The food items were a bit pricy so my husband and I decided to split some appetizers - Artichokes, French Onion Soup and the Skirt Steak. We ordered the Kids Bolognese Pasta which our daughter loved - I wish my husband and I could have said the same thing about what we ordered. I did enjoy the French Onion Soup the best, but we have made much better artichokes at home and the skirt steak was barely seasoned.
