First time coming here. Was very impressed with the exterior decor from the moment we pulled up into the parking lot. Really well themed depicting western characteristics. The bear out front with the fish was cute. I liked sitting in the swings. Service was fine. No major complaints. But I didn't come for the theme or the service. I came for the food (that's what my $100 is paying for, right?). My medium-well steak was so dry. I asked for A1 Sauce to try to help it. Didn't work. I added salsa. Didn't work. It seemed there was no fixing it short of sending it back and asking for a new steak (which I didn't do, probably should have, though). I left disappointed. I have never experienced a dining experience like this. As the ultimate Foodie family we were so shocked of the food that kept coming out which AJ's called Fixings. FANTASTIC SPOT! Talk about a random stop but super inviting from the moment we saw it! Kimberly and crew were amazing...they sang us "happy honeymoon to you" and brought us root beer floats to celebrate. And our dinner OMG! Literally as soon as we sat down we were instantly hooked. Service was amazing friendly and very helpful. The food was absolutely amazing and I lived the vegetable soup as a starter with every meal. It was delicious. The menu is a bit pricey so if your not looking to break the bank I would suggest a different location. But if your not worried about that it is an amazing place to eat. The atosphere was great. Very western and down home feel. I loved our experience there especially on my birthday. Got my favorite dessert at the end. Root beer float. Was the perfect end to our meal. Went for a drive and stopped in a little town called Buellton to see what it has to offer (43 miles north of Santa Barbara). Came here on a Friday night to celebrate an anniversary. This place is amazing and a great value for what you get. We had the 1lb hamburger and a filet and both were amazing. Loved the soup and the salad and the after dinner dessert cocktail was an amazing touch. Service was solid. Definitely our favorite steakhouse in the area. We will be back asap. I think we came on an off night (July 4). They were slammed, but half the restaurant was closed off. I want to say there was maybe 3 waiters working that night. We got sat in the "bar" area. It was fine, that's where the sole waitress was. She was fine but after she took our order and realized we were sharing a full rack of ribs (family of 4, 2 small kids) she checked out after that. I guess at this point in her career as a server she can't read social cues (napkins on plate, antsy kids, no one eating anything) because we had to ask for our check and then 30 minutes later we were finally able to flag her down. Yes it was a holiday and I found out from the hostess that a few people did call off so I'll cut her some slack. She needed help big time and there was no management to be found. Wont be back but it was fun for the kids I'll say! FOOD: ribs were decent , they did "fall off" the bone but all the sides left something to be desired. The potatoes were cold, the salad was fine and the cauldron beef stew was hot and good with the beans. Kids loved the treasure box and the animals everywhere. read more

We walk into the beautiful ambience, we're greeted with such care and kindness. The food is outstanding. We had the ribeye which I highly recommend both pork and beef ribs. We ate at AJ's Spurs and were definitely impressed by the portion sizes--huge! It really makes the price worth it. With any meal, you get a full spread: Vaquero soup (served with salsa and chili beans on the side), salad, A.J. spuds (potatoes) for the table, and dessert--your choice of a root beer float or a vanilla sundae with chocolate syrup. I ordered the Cajun Chicken Tortellini (blackened chicken over cheese-stuffed tortellini with herb butter). The tortellini was a little lackluster and didn't have much flavor, but adding pepper helped. The chicken was definitely blackened and had that nice charred flavor. The soup was tasty--especially the vegetables. For salad, you can choose your dressing; I went with ranch, which was good and came with some beets. The sundae was simple but satisfying. My husband got the Chuckwagon (6 oz. top sirloin, 4 St. Louis pork ribs, and 4 shrimp scampi). The ribs were tender and full of flavor, the steak was cooked perfectly medium, and the shrimp was well-seasoned and delicious. The rice on the side was just okay--nothing memorable. Our biggest disappointment was that some of the food was lukewarm. The soup cooled off quickly, and both the potatoes and rice weren't served hot. Service was great, though--staff were very attentive, constantly checking in, refilling drinks, and clearing plates. All meals also come with a piece of Texas toast. The decor is very themed--think hunting lodge with fur skins and taxidermy everywhere. We were seated right away on a Saturday, which was nice. Overall, it was an okay experience. Located right next to the Hitching Post, we decided to give this place a try since we couldn't get a reservation at the other place. When we walked into the place, there was no one working the hostess booth. We literally had to wait 5 to 8 minutes before someone showed up. When they did, it was another 10 minutes before we could be seated. That should've been my first clue that we were in trouble. Seeing as how we have never been there before, we were a little taken aback by the amount of food that we got, which would be a plus if it was good. But the food was average at best. One major positive was that our server was awesome. Very friendly, quick to provide any answers to questions we had, and very helpful with providing options for us. This is one of the best steakhouses. You sit down and they drop a pot of beef minestrone soup to start and it's free second you order your dinner comes with salad. Then after having all that they ask you if you want dessert, oh and it's free. You certainly can't beat the price on the food is excellent. AJ Spurs has really stepped up their game. The new manager is really on top of everything! He's cleaned up and rearranged and really just updated everything (and it NEEDED updating for sure)! They have a great western atmosphere and really fun ambiance. Kids and adults alike enjoy this restaurant. You can get delicious steak, or salmon, or a plethora of other options. Their onion rings might be some of the best onion rings I've ever had. Servers there have always been really kind and helpful. We threw our first murder mystery party there and the staff really nailed it. The manager had everything dialed in so that it came off seamlessly. Our first time eating at A.J. Spurs after eyeing it for years every time we drive through Buellton. It was great! The old western decor is fun and adds to the experience. We had the pork and beef ribs, steak bits, and chicken wings. All meats are nice and tender! They really understand what good bbq should taste like here. The smoke flavor and seasonings left our taste buds wanting more! There's so much food for the price. The beans are rich with flavor, the rice pilaf was tender and well seasoned but beware there are onions throughout if you don't prefer onions. We can't wait to go again! read more

Our waitress, Kimberly, was fantastic. She was very attentive to our needs and wants. Have been here a few times over the past years and have always wanted to try their beef and pork ribs. Did so this time, and was not impressed. The ribs were way overcooked and extremely chewy - not what I'm looking for in a rib. They were slathered in a house made BBQ sauce that was quite frankly not as good as something I could have purchased at the store. My wife had the sirloin steak and said that it was quite tasty but a little undercooked. The best part of the meal, now, remember this is a fairly pricey BBQ/steak restaurant, was the soup and salad. We'll probably give it another shot a few months from now, but as of this time, I would not recommend it. Their are much better establishments in the SY Valley - choose one of those. read more

Last year I left a raving review for this place. Things have changed. The food was not good. The lobster I ordered wasn't grilled it was boiled and tasted bad. I could not eat it. The chicken Alfredo was so salty It could not be eaten. Unfortunately, the manager that made all the wonderful improvements was relocated so the place went downhill.
