The foods are good and the portions s are huge. Meals come with appetizers, soup, and dessert of your choice. The meals can be enjoyed by 2-3 person. I will come visit again.

The environment was great the music was perfect for the atmosphere. The waitress was amazing she was extremely attentive. Great family oriented place. The drinks were delicious the general men's sour - not too sweet and not to sour, the old fashioned - was basic I would suggest ordering a whiskey straight. The kids chicken tenders were tasty, salad was fresh, ribs full rack super moist, the battered shrimp- very tasty light and fluffy, the desert so good!!! The portions are huge! Highly recommend stopping by this place!!

Let's talk about an establishment that gives out too much food whew! AJ Spurs is the spot! Which isn't a bad thing at all especially when you're really hungry! Great service with a very unique artifacts! I haven't been to an AJ Spurs in a long time since they had one in Marina, Ca And I had forgotten how unique and fulfilling it was. Went in as a group of 7 and only ordered for 4 people and there was plenty of food to share and go around! A must visit

I highly recommend coming here if you are ever in Solvang. The food is delicious and the starter cowboy soup is amazing. Our hostess Cameron is the sweetest and had the best recommendations. Our bartender Travis was awesome!! Brenda our server and kimberly were attentive and helpful.

First time coming here. Was very impressed with the exterior decor from the moment we pulled up into the parking lot. Really well themed depicting western characteristics. The bear out front with the fish was cute. I liked sitting in the swings. Service was fine. No major complaints. But I didn't come for the theme or the service. I came for the food (that's what my $100 is paying for, right?). My medium-well steak was so dry. I asked for A1 Sauce to try to help it. Didn't work. I added salsa. Didn't work. It seemed there was no fixing it short of sending it back and asking for a new steak (which I didn't do, probably should have, though). I left disappointed. Based solely on the food experience which is where the cost of the excursion really lies, I can't see myself eating here again.

FANTASTIC SPOT! Talk about a random stop but super inviting from the moment we saw it! Kimberly and crew were amazing...they sang us "happy honeymoon to you" and brought us root beer floats to celebrate. And our dinner OMG! Literally as soon as we sat down we were instantly hooked. The stew is amazing! The house salad was HUGE! And the chuck wagon meal blew our minds! Thank goodness for wrong turns, random stops, and to go boxes! We will definitely make this our new special spot Such a friendly staff and welcome environment

What a great place!! Dropped in to have a nice, classy dinner and loved the ambiance and service! Kimberly put smiles on our faces and the food was top notch. Really liked how the dinners come with soup you ladle and season at the table, and the entree is followed by a nice chaser at the end. Next time we're in the area, we'll be back!

Service was amazing friendly and very helpful. The food was absolutely amazing and I lived the vegetable soup as a starter with every meal. It was delicious. The menu is a bit pricey so if your not looking to break the bank I would suggest a different location. But if your not worried about that it is an amazing place to eat. The atosphere was great. Very western and down home feel. I loved our experience there especially on my birthday. Got my favorite dessert at the end. Root beer float. Was the perfect end to our meal. A definite recommendation if you love a great steak dinner

I think we came on an off night (July 4). They were slammed, but half the restaurant was closed off. I want to say there was maybe 3 waiters working that night. We got sat in the "bar" area. It was fine, that's where the sole waitress was. She was fine but after she took our order and realized we were sharing a full rack of ribs (family of 4, 2 small kids) she checked out after that. I guess at this point in her career as a server she can't read social cues (napkins on plate, antsy kids, no one eating anything) because we had to ask for our check and then 30 minutes later we were finally able to flag her down. Yes it was a holiday and I found out from the hostess that a few people did call off so I'll cut her some slack. She needed help big time and there was no management to be found. Wont be back but it was fun for the kids I'll say! FOOD: ribs were decent , they did "fall off" the bone but all the sides left something to be desired. The potatoes were cold, the salad was fine and the cauldron beef stew was hot and good with the beans. Kids loved the treasure box and the animals everywhere.

Ok... first of all I called to see if I needed a reservation and was so happy to know that they didn't. The young man on the phone was incredibly kind. We walk into the beautiful ambience, we're greeted with such care and kindness. The food is outstanding. We had the ribeye which I highly recommend both pork and beef ribs. The service is over the top amazing I highly recommend this restaurant. Thank you Kimberly for such kindness and great service and Henry the most kind host.

Heading up the Wednesday for my birthday with my wife and daughter. Do we need to make reservations beforehand?

It wouldn't hurt to make reservations, but it isn't required.

Traveling up to solvang this weekend with our dog., is the restaurant dog friendly?

Were you able to take ur doggy?

Is outdoor dining available currently (as of July?)

They are not honoring outdoor dining requests. We had to eat inside first week of August 2021. I love this restaurant, but this was a big surprise since that is not what their website says, and I wasn't happy to have the decision made for me at the…

Is live music only Fri/Sat? Website said weekends but some reviews implied every day. We'll be there middle of the week. Thx

Great question! There is a calendar on the website (or use to be). Friday and Saturday seem to be the only consistent days either way. Hope that helps!!

Are their burgers quality meat or frozen Costco type?

Burgers are fresh as far as I know. No Costco meats here. They are one of the best places to eat in area. We eat there every time we are up there. Be sure to take your appetite if you. You get lots of food.

Do they have a happy hour?

    No

After walking in and passing the host stand, a server who was seated at the bar got up, walked us to a table, and suggested we sit on the loveseat. The host was friendly and welcoming, and the space itself seemed promising. We were excited to settle in, have a drink, and check the place out. The restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived, but shortly after we were seated, a larger group came in. From that point on, it felt like we were completely forgotten. The server focused on the larger party, taking drink orders and delivering beverages as more guests from their group arrived. Meanwhile, we sat waiting without any acknowledgment. Another group of ladies was seated nearby and appeared just as confused about who was helping them. We both work in the restaurant industry, so we understand that larger parties can demand attention and that things don't always go perfectly. We tried to be patient and give the team the benefit of the doubt. However, after waiting more than 15 minutes without anyone checking on us, taking a drink order, or even acknowledging our table, we decided to leave. What made the experience especially frustrating was that the restaurant wasn't busy when we arrived. We never felt welcomed beyond being shown to our table, and ultimately it felt like our business wasn't valued. Hopefully this was just an off night, because the atmosphere and concept seemed like something we would have enjoyed. We'd be willing to give it another chance, but first impressions matter, and unfortunately this one missed the mark. Sadly, it looks like we definitely missed out on the famous Bowl for Two.

Until this visit, I've always had a positive impression. Last night, our group purchased drinks from the Sideways Lounge and sat in the outdoor fireplace area. One member of our group was smoking when an employee approached us and rudely told us smoking wasn't allowed there. That wasn't the issue--we would have gladly complied if the policy had simply been explained respectfully. Instead, we were interrupted multiple times while trying to ask why there were no signs indicating the rule. The employee repeatedly responded, "Well, I'm telling you now." He then told us to go outside the fenced lounge area--even into the parking lot--to smoke, despite posted signs stating that alcohol cannot leave the lounge area. The interaction felt unnecessarily confrontational and inconsistent. Businesses absolutely have the right to enforce their policies. Customers should also expect to be treated with courtesy and respect. Unfortunately, this one interaction overshadowed an otherwise enjoyable trip. After years of staying here and recommending the property to others, I no longer plan to return or recommend Sideways Inn for future golf and wine weekends. I sincerely hope management addresses the customer service issues that led to this experience.

Kelly seemed more focused on catering to a small group of guys in cowboy hats than maintaining the vibe that actually makes this spot stand out. Instead of reading the room, she and her May 1st bartender colleague locked into a single stream of country music that clearly wasn't resonating with most of the crowd. That's really the frustrating part, it wasn't just a music choice, it was the complete lack of awareness or willingness to adjust. People weren't being heard, requests were ignored, and the whole "records" concept felt pointless when it was treated so rigidly. If you're going to lean into vinyl as part of the experience, it should feel curated, responsive, and a little bit special, not like someone just putting on their personal playlist and tuning everyone else out. The drinks were genuinely great, which makes the situation even more disappointing. The potential is clearly there, but the execution on the atmosphere just didn't match. If the records are going to stay, they should actually be used to enhance the environment, not limit it. Otherwise, it might be better to ditch the gimmick entirely rather than let it drag down what could be an otherwise standout spot.

In fact, I professionally moonlight as Historian specializing in medieval English history! This means that I am a sucker for anything reminding of the time period; making the Santa Barbara-adjacent Danish city of Solvang right up my alley with its medieval storybook streets/architecture. Among the many spots in Solvang that make my heart go pitter-patter is The Good Life: a cellar wine/ale/tavern- bar. Grab your favorite wench and come along to grab a pint... Stroll down Mission Drive in the famous Danish city of Solvang and you will be delighted to venture upon The Good Life that appears to pop out of a medieval history book with exposed wooden beans, plaster exterior walls and an entrance that resides at basement level (they don't call it a cellar bar for nothing!). Owned by a husband-wife team with extensive hospitality and restaurant experience under their belts in 2012; the charm of The Good Life is instantaneous and perfect for a gal like me obsessed with this sort of thing. Prepare to be instantly transported into the 15th century! Once you cross the threshold of The Good Life, the Shakesperean feel continues but is also modernized with a glowing fireplace, plush arm chairs and high bar tables (plus bar seating) and floor to ceiling wine racks. The Good Life is a perfect ratio of Solvang tradition with hints of romance making it ideal for a casual beverage, tourist pop-in or memorable date night drink. The latter is exactly how my boyfriend and I happened to come across The Good Life as we were visiting Solvang from Los Angeles for the city's Christmas-time Julefest. We had just spent the evening making holiday memories among the city's Christmas trees, twinkling lights and sugary delights. Post Danish-dinner, we decided to wrap up our forever-Solvang memory with a drink at The Good Life. We were immediately greeted by the male manning The Good Life without any attitude or distaste towards us for coming in as he was preparing to close for the evening. If he was upset with us in any way - he certainly didn't show it! The Good Life features an amazing menu of local and international wines, beers, ales, meads, ciders, and ports that make The Good Life feel fancy-schmancy and artisan; but also, neighborhood friendly for your favorite hipster or friend next door. My boyfriend and I shared a cider (I wish I remembered the specific one but alas my memory evades me) while enjoying the atmosphere of warmth at The Good Life. Other customers sat in the plush chairs with notepads and tarot cards, an older couple arrived to cap off the evening and I enjoyed the view of my boyfriend in a medieval-Danish inspired cellar bar. The Good Life is standout at accommodating to all customers and making sure no one feels out of place. A bountiful tip as important as the bosom of a medieval bar wench: the bathroom at The Good Life is labeled as 'Office'. Don't worry, you won't walk in on someone preparing accounting books and the only business happening behind this door involves you and your private matters. The Good Life is delightful and unique but doesn't just stop there: it also differentiates itself with a truly impressive alcohol selection that allows you to be introduced to local, national, Danish and international bevies you have surely not tried prior. The Good Life is recommended for a drink on your next trip to the tourist-friendly city of Solvang. Even if you aren't pretending to be in medieval times...
