After walking in and passing the host stand, a server who was seated at the bar got up, walked us to a table, and suggested we sit on the loveseat. The server focused on the larger party, taking drink orders and delivering beverages as more guests from their group arrived. Meanwhile, we sat waiting without any acknowledgment. Another group of ladies was seated nearby and appeared just as confused about who was helping them. We both work in the restaurant industry, so we understand that larger parties can demand attention and that things don't always go perfectly. We tried to be patient and give the team the benefit of the doubt. However, after waiting more than 15 minutes without anyone checking on us, taking a drink order, or even acknowledging our table, we decided to leave. What made the experience especially frustrating was that the restaurant wasn't busy when we arrived. We never felt welcomed beyond being shown to our table, and ultimately it felt like our business wasn't valued. I wanted to love this place because of the aesthetic however, the owner (guy who wears the golf cap) immediately seemed annoyed that my friend and I wanted to grab a drink there. The menus have a cool design, but will be hard to read if you have any sort of vision issues or written language processing issues due to varying fonts and sizes. Well, it was a festive weekend in Solvang and literally everyone was out and about enjoying the holiday season and lights. Pretty much everything was packed or a major line. It's smaller in that room. But we were seating in the back room which was slightly bigger. I can say it's quite a cool and creative fun place. Hawaii meets cocktails obviously. A cool design of the place giving tiki bar. Sofa seating along the wall and hi top tables and tables along the sides. Drink menu was fun. Pretty much mixed cocktails. As it was the holiday, they also had mulled wine which I did try. You could purchase the holiday mug that it comes in if needed. It was quite tasty and perfect for the holiday spirit. It had been a few months since our last visit to the High Roller, and unfortunately this experience was very different from the previous one. It appeared that there was only one server, one bartender, and the owner working during an extremely busy time, which made the overall experience feel overwhelming and unorganized. When we first arrived, we were seated immediately, which was great. However, once we sat down, the service went downhill. Our order was taken, but after waiting over 20 minutes without receiving any drinks, my boyfriend went to grab waters for us. When he asked the bartender for cups--since there were none at the self-serve station--she rudely pointed out where the water was, even though he already knew. He had to remind her that there were no cups available. The drinks themselves were good, but the service was very poor. I understand that the owner is heavily involved and clearly puts a lot of effort into the bar. When I asked how he was doing, he seemed rushed and stressed, as he was acting as both server and bartender. He mentioned that things would be better if customers weren't yelling at him. While I sympathize with being understaffed, the frustration from customers seemed to stem from the long wait times and lack of service. The inside of the bar is cute and well decorated which makes me love this cool little spot, but sometimes the decor gets washed up by the service. Okay, fellow tiki travelers- these are wine-based tiki drinks. They are not as strong as liquor-based drinks. I have been here many times over the years, back to when they were in the back of Sort This Out Cellars. The owner is still the owner and the tiki environment he has built is right up there with the best tiki bars still in existence. This most recent visit was right at opening time (1:00 pm on a Monday) and Solvang was still jumping with weekend visitors. We ducked in from the families and other assorted tourists on the sidewalks of Alisol Rd into the relatively cool and definitely dark environs of the High Roller. Our bartender and consummate host Dylan was there at the bar, smiling and ready to answer questions. All tiki drinks (except bowls) are $13. I chose a Blue Hawaiian for the aesthetic and the nutritious pineapple juice! It's blue and comes with a light-up cube (don't steal it, you can get your own online for cheap). I did get a buzz (as a seasoned imbiber) but on an empty tummy so no guarantees on strength rating, you party animals. The back room from the main bar is my favorite room - it was dark and quiet and so well decorated with lights and sound and all things tiki. This is one of my happy places and I'm coming back for their murder mystery event on April 19! read more

We gave this place two chances, and they disappointed us both times. We went with friends visiting out of town for the vibe because we thought the decor was super unique and cool, but I don't think the vibe could really make up for the service and quality of the drinks. The drinks were not only weak, but a few of ours were nearly undrinkable. The Traveler's Tai tasted like straight up lime juice and mint. Maybe that's why the "rum" was in quotations on the menu. Definitely way overpriced at $15 for what you get. The waiter also only stopped by at our table to take our order, and drop off our drinks. He went to the tables around us multiple times to make sure they were okay, see if they wanted another round, etc., but completely ignored us the rest of the night. After waiting around for 30 minutes for him to come over with the check, our table started taking bets on how many minutes it would take for him to come back around. 30 minutes after we placed that bet (so after about an hour of waiting), we gave up and just went to the front to pay. When the waiter asked us if everything was okay, and we told him our drinks weren't that great, he said, "Oh. We haven't heard that in a while." We weren't really expecting an apology, but I feel he could've dealt with that better. In all, really wouldn't come here again and definitely wouldn't come with guests. If you're looking for a cool vibey place with good drinks, I recommend anywhere else in town. read more
