Asked the waiter about the drinks and side of fries, apparently they had dropped off the drinks at the wrong table and had to remake the drink order. Awhile passed and espresso and orange juice arrived. Asked about our side of fries...they had forgot and were making it still. Finished up eggs Benedict, the fries still didn't arrive so asked for check. They had the audacity to leave the fries on the bill on first review. Our group spent 800 here and with very little alcohol so not being rude or obnoxious. While waiting for reservations was passed by several employees who would just looked bothered like we were in the way waiting for a host. No greeting or a simple hello. The host showed up and said ill sit you and I can get you waters but don't ask for drinks your server will do that. No scallops, no ribeye and a few other items were out. food was disappointing. I tried every appetizer most sides and all the desserts. Its my 3rd time time here and maybe last. Maybe get those amazing donuts to go. The server was nice enough but spred too think. Came to Coast Range for a dinner reservation on Dec 31 and had an amazing experience. We arrived early due to rain and parking concerns, and the staff was very accommodating and welcoming. The place itself is beautiful--great ambiance and interior design. It is pretty dim inside, which gave me a slight headache while adjusting, but it didn't take away from the overall experience. Our server Shelby was fantastic--super sweet, attentive, and answered all our questions with a smile. We started with the crispy pork belly, and honestly... best pork belly we've had. Perfectly crispy, juicy, and full of flavor. As Filipinos, we know our pork belly, and this one reminded us of a Kare-Kare-style peanut sauce--so good. For mains, we shared the NY strip and beef stroganoff. Portions were generous for the price. The stroganoff actually had a noticeable red wine reduction (rare these days!) and was absolutely legit. The steak was cooked perfectly--tender all the way through with flaky salt on top. For dessert, we went with the tiramisu (huge fans), and it did not disappoint. We are in Solvang every year in February and spend a lot of time at Vaquero the bar attached to Coast Range which I have also reviewed. This was our first year eating at coast Range and the food was fantastic. I had the New York strip with demi glaze and it was cooked perfectly, the wedge salad was also great, and I should have not ordered toe large shell mac and cheese simply because it was way too much food but I am glad I didn't it is fantastic and filling the ricotta was so creamy and the shells cooked just above right. The pork chop my partner had was the biggest I have ever seen. Service was great we arrived early and they were able to seat us right away and the server was very attentive always there when drinks needed refreshing. A friend and I dined here on Tuesday night. It was the first time for both of us, even though we are from the area. It was restaurant week and that menu intrigued us. So we got one of each coursed menu, an order of the rolls and crispy rice spicy tuna for an appetizer which was recommended by our server. Appetizer: The crispy rice and spicy tuna was definitely the star of the evening. It was so flavorful and the perfect appetizer for sharing. First course: We shared both salads and the soup. One of salads or soup came with a roll which was not listed on the menu. The rolls were incredible so we probably would have ordered more had they just brought us the one. The beet and frisse salad was okay. It was a little underdressed and in my opinion didn't need the shrimp but more greens and beets instead. The other shrimp louie salad was very good and a great portion, even fore sharing. The split pea soup, on the other hand was over salted. Main course: The truffle carbonara was outstanding! The leg of lamb and ravioli was good. The meat was charred a little bit too much for my liking and the ravioli was good but not as warm as we would have preferred. Dessert: The carrot apple cake was exceptional! Overall I would like to come back to try more menu items. The vibe of the restaurant is cozy and the service was great! My gf loves this place so we actually ended up eating here twice over the weekend - once for dinner and once for brunch. For dinner, we started with the pierogies, which were so savory and hearty, and the fresh tuna. The NY strip was perfectly cooked and tender considering the cut which we got with the shallot demi glaze plus we opted to add a lobster tail to make it a meal for two. It was a pretty rich meal, but so delicious. The inside is a much more intimate space than the patio, and it's quieter too, if that's important to you. The service was good both times, but just a tad slow/relaxed, so you'll definitely want to consider that if you have other time commitments. For the brunch later in the weekend, we both had the eggs benedict. The generous stack of cooked ham added a nice heft to the eggs while the slight lemon added to the hollandaise offset a very rich sauce. Now, I'm wondering why more recipes don't incorporate lemon in theirs to cut through. We finished with the brioche donuts which were amazing to have hot and fresh. The interesting note I think I picked up was a hint of apple cider. I'm currently on the fence if I like that addition or not. read more

We stumbled on Coast Range by coincidence, and it was the best happy accident ever. My wife had what she called one of her favorite breakfasts - perfectly cooked scrambled eggs, thick-cut bacon, potato cake, and an English muffin. Simple and delicious. I had possibly the best bagel of my life, complete with perfectly smoked lox, capers, onions, cucumbers, and more. I typically never order bagel and lox, and now I can't order anywhere else because I know it won't be as good. These bagels were chewy, dense in the best way, and crispy with a nice crunch. The Bloody Mary cocktail was great; however, there is improvement needed for the initial delivery and refills of beverages. Also, written communication of soda at $3.00 for initial (8oz) and $3.00 for each refill (8 oz) should have been communicated and instead we found $9.00 for a soda. After reporting the menu does not communicate this, they removed the additional costs. I see other comments complaining of the beverage delivery or lack thereof and it's likely because the beverages are in a separate neighboring location, their separate entrance bar. There is one person refilling water; however, this place needs a beverage runner. The food was delicious as expected and Logan, our food server was excellent. This placed checked all the boxes. We wanted to do Solvang right and we really started off strong. We came to the restaurant at the tail end of service, but there were still tables being sat after us, so I didn't feel too bad. We had a half dozen oysters, the caesar salad, and the lamb chops. We also ordered a side of the mushrooms and pomme puree. I had two glasses of wine and my partner had a cocktail. Everything was really good! The oysters were fresh. The caesar was amazing and the lamb chops were the perfect medium rare. If I had to be extra critical, I would say that the sides were very good, but the pomme puree could be a little thicker and the mushrooms was missing something that I cannot put my finger on. Maybe I wanted them more herby, but that might be a personal preference. Both sides were still verrrrrrrry good though! The service was attentive and well paced. I felt well taken care of even though we were a later service. This is definitely the highlight meal of this trip for me. We did not eat here because we walked in to see if there were any openings and there were none at the time. That is not the issue. The issue is, one of the waitresses, a middle aged (late 30's-40's) with long brown hair and somewhat larger was extremely rude to us and we will never eat here after that. When I walked in with my family (elderly mother, husband and teenage son) this woman passed by several times and each time she would look directly at me, look me up and down, give me a dirty look and laugh to herself. I am a 36 y old woman with black and pink hair that works in healthcare and has a bachelors in biological sciences. I can afford to eat here. I can dress and do my hair as I choose. I also expect a restaurant to employee people that make better behavioral decisions. I would never treat a patient let alone a paying customer the way this woman did. read more

Anyway, let's get straight to it. We ordered 2 rib eye steaks, one medium the other medium rare, pork chop, asparagus, mushrooms, mash, large shell Mac n cheese, fries, and rolls. The rolls were delicious, however, you only get 3 pieces for $7, wasn't worth it. The fries were tasty and crunchy, perfect just the way I like my fries. Large shell Mac, also delicious, my wife said it was too rich but I enjoyed it, again, however, you only get around 5 pieces and that wasn't worth it. Mash was nice and creamy, wish it was a bit more lumpy but overall it was ok. The shrooms were super flavorful. Finally the asparagus, probably the worst asparagus I've ever had, it was way too citrusy for my palate. My gripe with the sides is that the portions were very very small, and for the price you're paying for sides i believe they should be bigger. Now let's get to the main dishes, pork chop was bland and slightly on the dry side in my opinion 3/5. The star of the show was definitely the 20oz ribeye, perfectly cooked, juicy and flavorful. 5/5. My husband who is also a lover of french fries ordered a side of fries. The portion was huge. He commented that it's the best shoe string fries he's ever had. Arrived hot and fresh. They both finished the fries so I'm sure it's excellent. I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was hot, flakey, and real cod. The dried onion tartar sauce to dip the fish has a savory and umami flavor. Cheers to the chef for the garnish salad. The green mixture is watercress with arugula sprouts. The dressing had a taste of lime juice with vinaigrette and salt. The salad was also placed on my husband's plate. He ordered the ribeye. The meat was so tender. He was able to cut it with his butter knife. We both each ordered a cocktail to go with our meals. For our dessert, we shared their malted waffle. Tasted like a warm cinnamon strudel crumb cake. Took 15 minutes to make but it was worth it. Overall, we will return to this place whenever we vacation in this area again. Like my husband said, "80% service and 20% food." What happened to the Michelin starred Beef Stroganoff?? As a local involved with the public on a daily basis who ask for dining recommendations...I always include you. I actually recommended you to some business owners in LA today for the stroganoff. Tonight was the first time in a while that we picked up the stroganoff for dinner. There was absolutely no horseradish kick...the sauce was way too sweet. What I thought was horseradish bits was actually curdled sour cream and the noodles were way overcooked and extremely limp. The beef was amazing & super tender, but I really missed the kick that earned you the star. My husband walked in to order this dish and had a cocktail. $50 for the dish and his bill was $70+ for one to go entree and one cocktail. This should have been exceptional. Not mediocre. Even more interesting is that the good reviews get responses, but I haven't seen a single response to any of the critical reviews from the manager. Some friends and I visited this highly ranked steakhouse last night in Solvang! We started off with the artichoke, pork belly, and rolls to share. The appetizers were delicious but were very pricey for their portion size. For my mains I got the beef stroganoff and the Mac n cheese, both of which were highly recommended by our server. I was very disappointed as I really did not like either of them. I passed the dish around the table to see if maybe it just didn't align with my taste buds but everyone felt similarly. The beef stroganoff was very meaty and really rich/heavy for my liking. And the Mac n cheese was 90% cheese, 10% macaroni. Nothing was necessarily wrong with the dishes as they were clearly fresh and made well, but I just personally did not like the taste. Others at our table got the steaks which they enjoyed and I felt the ~$70 price better aligned with the value than my almost $50 pasta dish. read more

Well I usually go to the Michelin guide when traveling. This place was written up and seemed to be a place to try out. Based on my expectations and reality. I gave it a 3. Could have been a 4 with a few things being different. The service was good on the front end. Very good. Timing between hellos and cocktails was ok. Cocktails were great. Appetizers came out in good time and temp. Excellent seasoning. Entrees for the most part were very good. But the star of the show didn't show up. We had a $70 rib eye show up at around 140-145FF when ordered medium rare. And the cut was questionable as far as true prime. Low fat content and it wasn't butchered correctly. So we have to go with a 3 because the place is billed as a steak house. And a request for a glass of red wine with the steak never happened. The server failed to circle back around to take the wine order. I would say, if you are going to go for a premium steakhouse experience this place is very close. Service is good. I am very confused as to how this is a Michelin Star restaurant! We came here because of this. We decided to order several appetizers thinking it would give us an idea of what the main dishes would be like. If their appetizers were any hint of the main dishes I'm glad we only ordered the appetizers. The food was so tasteless that we had no desire to order anything else. Let's start with the $11 rolls. We expected a basket. Not sure why we were that naive. You get two rolls that are no where in the ball park of $11 rolls. $11 I want them to melt in my mouth and taste like my grandma rolled them out in the kitchen this morning! They tasted like day old freezer rolls at best. Our Skirt Steak arrived burned. I mean burned completely crispy. While the server who stepped in to help initially said it's meant to be crispy our server came to the table and said No it should have come out medium to medium rare. They did make it again. The Heirloom tomato and Burrata salad had no flavor. The best dish was the scallops. It had some flavor although a complete lack of presentation. The greens were simply thrown on top and the cream corn sauce allowed it to have some flavor. My 2 stars is only because I didn't want to give it a 1 because our server Shelby did make an effort.
