Rigatoni and flat iron steak
Stephanie O.

Came here for a girls night and made a reservation on a weeknight. It was fairly empty and we had a lot of options for seating. The ambience is super moody with dim lighting inside. Fairly easy parking (lots of street parking). The host and waitress were very nice and patient and gave great recommendations for drinks and food. I got the purple rain cocktail--a light and refreshing gin cocktail. We ordered a rigatoni and flat iron steak to share. The rigatoni was super flavorful and really good. Loved the sauce. The flat iron was a little overdone but still really good with the flavors. I loved the potatoes that came with the dish. Love this place and will definitely come again!

Braised beef, short rib sandwich

I stopped in during a quieter time, and the service was friendly and attentive since they weren't busy. I was a bit confused when we asked about appetizers--the server pointed to the "small plates" section on the menu, but after checking, most of those items felt more like full salads or sides that could stand alone as meals rather than typical starters. For lunch, I went with the braised beef short rib sandwich, which was pretty solid overall--tender and flavorful, though it was a little on the dry side. I paired it with the sweet potato fries, which were tasty but came overloaded with seasoning (I had to brush some off to really enjoy them, and then they were delicious). The highlight for me was the charming country vibe of the place--the decor is full of character, with alcohol bottles artfully displayed on little ledges all over the walls, giving it a cozy, rustic feel that I really loved. Solid spot if you're in the area and want something hearty in a relaxed setting.

Walking in, I first noticed a lovely rustic charm to the place. They have some booths which is a plus for families, and our kids were excited to be seated in one. The staff were all personable and attentive, and the food was very good, especially those brussels! This was the last day of our trip and it was a nice way to close out our experience.

First time here and it did not disappoint! Let's start with the drinks, SO good. I had a lemon drop that was perfectly balanced, not too sweet, not too tart, just chef's kiss. The spicy marg was with a tajin rim and fresh lime definitely ordering that again. My boyfriend had an Old Fashioned that he said was strong and smooth (he's picky so that's saying something ). For food, we tried Lemon Herb roasted pulled chicken sandwich and an American Wagyu burger. The sandwich was stacked! The burger? Juicy and satisfying. We shared plates The vibe inside was cozy and welcoming, and the service was fast and friendly. Our server kept checking in and made sure everything was on point. Definitely coming back, this spot is a vibe!

Tonight we celebrated our 14 year wedding anniversary and this place delivered. Food was so delicious. Abby our waitress was super friendly and attentive but so was the rest of the staff. The place was casual but it definitely had a romantic vibe to because of the lighting and we got seated next to the fire pit which was perfect! Would definitely come back and highly recommend it.

Date night tonight, I got a couple if tickets to see a cover band at the Clarke center and of course dinner M hasn't been to Mason's. Early diners tonite and we parked as close as one can. Well "the games" were on so into the bar we went. Baseball NL game showing the Dodgers and the phone on our table was showing Thursday nite NFL, both Philly teams headed towards defeat...Awww I've enjoyed my past dinner experiences at this establishment, tonite was no different. What was different was sitting in the bar as opposed to the dining room. No problem we had our backs to the bricks on a bench at a table for four, a perfect screen view. Okay dinner time, we're sharing our choices these days and splitting the entree was a small charge. The Sparkling bottled water I bought was flat, no problem try this one. My Caesar salad was good lots of leaves and fresh crouton but I found the dressing was less than tasteful, bring back the anchovies. M had a good bowl of roasted cauliflower, she loved it, every last bit of it. We split the crispy skin Branzino considered a European or Mediterranean Sea Bass nothing like the thick light flavored North American Sea-bass" we are fond of. Needless to say it was crispy and flavorful and the lemon mashed potatoes were a hit. Green beans cooked perfectly. A very well balanced is was all very complimentary flavored. Then it was time for dessert all made in the kitchen. Lets have some birthday cake, minus the candles. That was really good, I wish we had more at home. Always a good spot for me see ya next time, thank you Foodguy Martin

Chocolate Pot de Crème

Came by for an early dinner around 4:40 pm on a Monday. Dining room wasn't open at the time so we sat in the bar area. We were greeted by a very welcoming staff member named Morgan. We ordered drinks with a few hiccups but staff was just so friendly that it didn't bother us. We ordered their American Wagyu Burger with regular fries, Peach and Burrata Panzanella Salad, Brussels Sprouts, and Butternut Squash Soup. Food came out timely and at the right temperature. I thought the brussels sprouts were excellent. The soup was my second favorite. The burger was very good but the salad didn't work for us. We also had their Chocolate Pot de Crème which was a decadent chocolate treat.

Beef short beef sandwich with fries

Had the beef short rib sandwich. Lots of flavor, very tender. Good chunk of meat. Accompanied by French fries, and ranch dressing. Service was great. Spirit pour was very good. Prices are par of prices these days. Overall would definitely recommend.

What a fun restaurant! Take a blend of western decor and modern culinary technique, sprinkle in some delicious recipes, attentive service, and an open concept and you've gotten Mason bar and kitchen. Ricota with EVOO was delicious! So were the duck rillettes. My colleagues all got dry aged burgers and said they were delicious. This restaurant is nestled in Arroyo grande's downtown area and it is possible to walk around a variety of shops and restaurants from here. Really fantastic location, absolutely worth a visit!

Service was excellent, our waiter was great. Inside was clean. It was packed on a Saturday night but the food came out pretty quick. The biscuits and Brussel sprouts were excellent. Beef tartar didn't have much flavor, I'd pass on that one. Short rib entree was also lacking flavor but the sauce it came with was good. The linguine carbonara was very good, fresh, full of flavor. We had a reservation and our table was actually ready waiting for us right on time which was nice. It's on the pricey side but necessarily overpriced. 5 stars if the short rib and tartar had more flavor. Overall, I'd go again and try other dishes.

The Salmon Entree, so tender and flavorful

A couple of the drinks didn't quite hit, but the "Sunset and Chill" was a group favorite. The wedge salad isn't traditional, but it's delicious and a nice twist on the classic. The lasagna was a standout -- rich, decadent, and really satisfying. The portion looks small, but don't be fooled. Service was great throughout. They gave us semi-private seating, which we really appreciated, and the outdoor setup added a fresh, airy feel while still keeping things cozy for our group. For dessert, the toasted marshmallow torte was the clear table favorite -- definitely the one to try. The lemon tart was good too, but if you're choosing one, go marshmallow. All dishes were given with care but not necessarily to overly impress, meaning that the portion size was generous rather than dainty. The experience of the place was considerably more sophisticated than I recall from the Central Coast of almost 20 years ago when I lived in the area. (Granted, time has passed, but still refreshing to see.) Staff also seemed happy to be there and engaging with diners, more than merely doing their jobs. Thank you Ember for raising the bar and impressing this out of town guest!

Seemed to close early, 8pm, for a brewery, but I guess it's a quieter area. Arrived past 7, hoping we can still get food and we were still good for food and beer! Ms. Kristie was so efficient and friendly and awesome, hustling back and forth from reception to seating and dropping by to check on all the patrons. Like a one woman show! I went for the Peanut butter falcon since I like a good brown beer. The peanut butter was initially nice, but it kinda became tiring as the sips went along, since peanut butter seemed a bit much over the beer. Got wife the German Pilsner and that was excellent! Smooth with a hint of malty sweetness too! I am thinking maybe the Lawn Order blonde ale is probably going to be great as well, but too full from late lunch to consume more than one. For food, went with the birria melt and the salmon salad. Birria melt had some awesome authentic flavors to it! Kid devoured it with the consomme. I enjoyed a quarter of it, but too full, so worked out perfect since kid didn't want to share more either, lol. Salmon salad was perfect! Pan seared on both side for that wonderful crust yet tender goodness. Salad dressing with cherry and almond slices made this salad so enjoyable while staying lighter. Was not expecting such salmon from a brewery, excellent food here! Locals seem to love this place too until closing time I guess, since a group that seemed to be bar hopping arrived exceited when we got there too:)

As soon as I walked in, I was mesmerized by the refrigerator row of wine/champaign bottles. The bar area is well decorated with a dark background and small lights to emulate a dark starry night. Their service was not good in our L.A.-opinionated minds. Yes, we were greeted and seated immediately upon arrival. We waited maybe 20 minutes before someone eventually came to take our order. Mind you, the whole time we were ready to order, the waitress who seated us was walking back and forth, setting up tables around us. She clearly saw that we were ready to order but didn't even offer to take our orders or get another staff who could. This is a place to come to if you are NOT in a hurry and are here to simply chill and take life SLOCAL style. The food here seems like a fusion between American and Mediterranean style. 1. Octopus Appetizer (4.5/5) Large octopus tentacles served with a combination of vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, roasted peppers) toasted with garlic and olive oil. The vegetables and octopus were all cooked very well. The octopus was fresh and melts in your mouth. 2. Grilled Asparagus (2.5/5) Large asparagus that's seasoned lightly, but it was not cooked correctly. It had a very stringy-fibery texture. 3. Philly cheesesteak (2/5) The hoagie bread was grocery store quality at best. We were sad that it wasn't even toasted or warmed up, so ended up ditching the bread/bun and just ate the inside. The cheese was at least nicely melted. The onion and bell peppers were fresh, but the steak was "meh." Definitely not quality beef. The beef itself was also not seasoned enough, so was bland and dry. 4. Onion rings (5/5) Fried to perfection. Loved that the onions were fresh and it was easy to pull apart with each bite. The aioli sauce that its served with is plain and bland though. 5. Crab cake (4/5): Crabby patty anyone? All I tasted was fried Panko batter. Wish the patty itself had more flavor and spice. The garlic aioli sauce that came with it though was good. 6. Dr. Marquis Salad (4/5): Fresh spring mix lettuce topped with ground beef and crispy bacon, tomato, sliced avocado and tossed with their house-made olive oil, salt and pepper dressing. Overall, it was a hearty salad with plentiful flavor. It was just a bit weird to have ground beef in salad, but I guess that's what makes this salad dish unique
