Wow!! Was I surprised at the fabulous Chili Verdi!!! I had the taco salad w/Chili Verdi and it was served in a large tortilla bowl filled yummy!!! The service was impeccable my iced tea was filled regularly which is always a plus in my book!! I've been to Zorro's Cafe and Cantina probably seven or eight times now, and every single visit has been consistently solid. The thing that originally got me hooked on this place was their clam chowder. An ex-girlfriend brought some back for me to try, and it ended up being one of the best clam chowders I've ever had. That alone made me want to come try the restaurant in person. Now, every time I visit, it's a must-order. Honestly, it's better than any other place in Pismo Beach that claims to have the best. Zorro's is the one that actually delivers. Beyond the chowder, it's a full Mexican restaurant with a wide menu. They bring out chips and salsa to start, and they also have their own house-made hot sauce on every table, which is a nice touch. The food across the board has been consistently good. This last visit, my girlfriend had the carnitas tacos, and I ordered the shrimp diablo plate. I've also had their fish and chips, enchiladas, tacos, and burritos on previous visits, and I haven't had a bad meal yet. They also have a solid drink selection, including Mexican beers, good cocktails, and especially strong Bloody Marys and micheladas. The service has always been reliable. Even when it's busy, the staff checks in often enough to keep drinks filled and make sure you have what you need, including more chips and salsa. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and parking is pretty easy since it's all street parking nearby. You're usually only a short walk away. If you're in Pismo Beach and like Mexican food, this place is definitely worth a stop. And seriously, don't skip the clam chowder. It's the standout. read more

Enjoyed the classic HUASNA HUEVOS RANCHEROS. Nothing fancy, the tortillas were soggy and everything was pretty oily. Lacked a punch of heat or a complimentary sauce. Very straight to the point and classic. My friend enjoyed a tamale and eggs. Again it lacked a complimentary sauce or salsa. We asked for their side sauces and salsa and just not hot enough! This place was such a gem to find! My boyfriend and I were in the area looking for good food and had our dog with us, so we were especially happy to find a spot that was pet-friendly. The space is cozy and lively. It was definitely busy, but the wait wasn't bad at all - about 15 minutes for outdoor patio seating when we arrived around 11:00 AM. They even offer dog-friendly menu items, which is such a cute and thoughtful idea. We ordered the clam chowder and the chile verde omelette. The chowder was honestly the star of the show--rich, creamy, and chunky, with generous pieces of seafood that made it extra satisfying. The chile verde omelette was also a solid choice, filled with tender pork and a savory chile verde sauce, paired with refried beans and potatoes (I was able to sub them in instead of the tortillas, which was nice). We also tried the zucchini muffin, which had great flavor, though it was a bit crumbly for my taste. Overall, this is a great spot for a Mexican-inspired brunch, especially if you're dining with your pup. Being just blocks away from the beach makes it even better. It was pretty quiet when we showed up at about 9 am. Seated quick no wait. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Service was good everyone was very friendly and quick to address anything we needed. My review is mostly on the service as the food for me was just ok. We got the chilaquiles and breakfast with French toast. The chilaquiles were ok. It has so much going on many type of onion peppers and sauce had no flavor and the heaviness of everything just mashed into one thing. The beans were good but rice also had no flavor. I tried the salsa on the side but also had no flavor and heat. The bacon and egg breakfast with the French toast was good. We asked for crispy bacon and that's what we got. Overall maybe this is a lunch and dinner place because I was not impressed by flavor or breakfast. I do appreciate the great service which was quick and everyone was super friendly. read more

We are locals and will sometimes visit Zorro's for their comfort food and pretty side patio. On this visit we sat inside. Our greeting was mediocre, but our server was great and bussing and drink refills were attentive and very friendly. We did get a big "thank you!" with a smile on our way out. Food is solid comfort if not winning awards for presentation. I ordered the tri-tip sandwich, and with a choice of side I chose fresh fruit. When it came out with fries (which were perfectly cooked steakhouse fries), the server asked if I wanted to keep the fries while she brought the fruit. We enjoyed this happy accidental side-swap. Tri-tip on the grilled sourdough bread with cheese (kind of like a Tritip melt) was heavy, a little oily, but good quality tri-tip. We also ordered the chorizo and eggs scramble which came with beans and rice. Very good. Generous portion. Our awesome busser refilled our soda before we left and offered to put it in a to-go cup. It's a cute indoor space, colorful, not too loud and not too crowded with tables. The surf channel was playing on a TV, which was fun to watch. I'm sure we'll continue with our twice-yearly visits. Approaching the restaurant, Zorro's attract lines, just like Splash Cafe in Pismo Beach. We waited about 20 minutes to get a table, but as we are ushered into our table, a lovely kid gave a white rose to my wife. It was mother's day, and Zorro's are presenting mothers who dined with them that day a rose. A good sign that we are going to have a great breakfast here at Zorro's. Inside, Zorro's small and quaint space has such character. We glanced at the menu but already mentioned that we'll have a cup of their clam chowder. I came to our table before our breakfast and tasted it. Wow, it is by far the best clam chowder we have tasted throughout our trip here in SLO. The savoriness and brininess of the chowder is Perfect. The creaminess is on point. The conglomeration of all the ingredients of Zorro's clam chowder is just perfect. It was so good than when my wife tasted it, she immediately asked our server that she will have a cup of her own as well. Anyways back to our breakfast, I asked our server what is here recommendation, and without hesitation, she recommended the Cuyama Chili Verde Omelet of which I obliged. The flavor of the chili verde sauce, the tenderness of the pork, all just so good. My wife's Chilaquiles was yummy as well. My son's burger patty was perfectly charred and tasted great. First of all, the service was awesome. Liz was our waitress. She had a friendly attitude from the start and was helpful with her suggestions. And if you are reading this, happy birthday Liz! I ordered the chorizo and eggs breakfast, which came with side of Mexican rice and frijoles along with corn tortillas. My wife ordered the Greek omelet, but with jack cheese instead of feta. We both thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast. My chorizo had great flavor, not too spicy, but with a nice kick. I absolutely loved it. We also sample the chowder (great!) and chile verde (really good!). Food was great before and still great now! I always come back for that shrimp and crab enchilada! Portions are still huge. Honestly feels like 2 meals in one. Prices are still reasonable. Our server was very nice and attentive. Always had a smile on her face and was ready to answer any questions we may have. Refilled our coffees in time without us asking and looking for a server. Amazing breakfast burritos! All of the ingredients were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The burrito was so large I couldn't finish it, but I wish I could have as it was amazing. We were lucky enough to sit in the covered patio to enjoy the mild weather of the day. The food comes out fast and the staff answered all of our questions with such care. Within minutes a line was forming - definitely a locals favorite! We now know why - good coffee and delicious food. Recently on Sunday, went to breakfast with some friends. On the waitlist for a little while, not a lot of place to wait but gratefully it was no more than a half hour. Weather was beautiful and one seated inside our order was taken. Extremely busy so don't come too awfully hungry as there is a minor weight service was impeccable and for the most part food was good. I ordered the Chilaquiles which was not my favorite. But everyone else with me have some wonderful food. They weren't bad they were just not my favorite. Probably more me than them. Had a great breakfast here. Love that it's dog friendly and even have a dog menu. I tried their clam chowder and it blew me away. It was the best clam chowder I've ever had, even compared to living in Boston, trying multiple in San Francisco, Rhode Island style and Manhattan style. I tried the spinach enchilada, but the spinach wasn't cooked and was raw in the middle which I wasn't a huge fan of, though it came in a really nice sauce. The receptionist at our hotel recommended this restaurant as a "safe for celiacs like herself" place so my little family decided to give it a try. Hands down some of the best Mexican food I have had in a very very long time. My husband agreed. He got the wet style burrito and for the first time in a long time, couldn't finish because it was so much food! It was close to the size of my forearm! I had the sweet corn tamale and a chicken enchilada. Both were "omg I have to close my eyes and go mmmmmm at first bite" good. I was taking small bites so I could savor every morsel. Our waitress was very good and told me exactly what was gluten free. She even made sure to say it wasn't a celiacs safe kitchen so cross contamination could happen, however they try their best to keep it from happening. She also shared that she had gluten sensitivity and has been good eating there. We were seated outside so our dogs could be with us. It was a nice patio with heaters and protected from the elements. I'm so sad we live 6 hours away because this would be my go to Mexican restaurant if we lived closer. We loved our meals and the service. My wife and I are on a trip for our first anniversary so we wanted to get something we wouldn't be able to find where we live. After debating we decided to check out Zorro's. We looked at the menu and decided to get the Shrimp and Crab Enchiladas. My wife has allergies to dairy and eggs, but they were able to accommodate her which we deeply appreciated. The food arrived and it has become my favorite item I've ever had at a restaurant. The crab and shrimp paired incredibly well with the sauce and cheese. Cute breakfast place on Shell Beach. I got egg, sausage and pancakes. I did have to send my pancakes back as it was an over cooked on the other side but other than that it was nice and fluffy. Eggs was cooked to my liking medium and the sausage patty was huge and thick. GF got an egg scramble with cheese and dice ham and for her side she got country potatoes and refried beans which she enjoyed. Servers were all friendly. Only a quick review here. Pretty good, about as expected. I am not particularly fond of standard Mexican food in this country, so I ordered a breakfast sandwich. It's a busy place, very lively, and people seem to have a good time overall. My breakfast sandwich was good - the bacon was perfect. Everything else at the table (French toast, etc.) looked really good. (My only thumbs down was that I asked for hot tea and got lukewarm water for tea. Even the replacement "hot" water wasn't really hot. But that's just how it is in a lot of places where the owners don't drink hot tea.)
