Even though my fiancé and I showed up about an hour before closing, we were met with a welcoming staff at Hapy Bistro. The staff even gave us preference on which kind of table to sit at. The low table area was already pretty full so we opted for high bar table. The servers were super nice and friendly. One of our servers even felt bad to tell us that they were out of the fish for fish n chips. This is a wine bar so they didn't have too many NA drinks on the menu. A pretty decent restaurant in the Pismo beach area if you are looking for a chill, slow-paced, well-decorated place to eat at. As soon as I walked in, I was mesmerized by the refrigerator row of wine/champaign bottles. The bar area is well decorated with a dark background and small lights to emulate a dark starry night. Their service was not good in our L.A.-opinionated minds. Yes, we were greeted and seated immediately upon arrival. We waited maybe 20 minutes before someone eventually came to take our order. Mind you, the whole time we were ready to order, the waitress who seated us was walking back and forth, setting up tables around us. She clearly saw that we were ready to order but didn't even offer to take our orders or get another staff who could. This is a place to come to if you are NOT in a hurry and are here to simply chill and take life SLOCAL style. The food here seems like a fusion between American and Mediterranean style. 1. Octopus Appetizer (4.5/5) Large octopus tentacles served with a combination of vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, roasted peppers) toasted with garlic and olive oil. The vegetables and octopus were all cooked very well. The octopus was fresh and melts in your mouth. 2. Grilled Asparagus (2.5/5) Large asparagus that's seasoned lightly, but it was not cooked correctly. It had a very stringy-fibery texture. 3. Philly cheesesteak (2/5) The hoagie bread was grocery store quality at best. We were sad that it wasn't even toasted or warmed up, so ended up ditching the bread/bun and just ate the inside. The cheese was at least nicely melted. The onion and bell peppers were fresh, but the steak was "meh." Definitely not quality beef. The beef itself was also not seasoned enough, so was bland and dry. 4. Onion rings (5/5) Fried to perfection. Loved that the onions were fresh and it was easy to pull apart with each bite. The aioli sauce that its served with is plain and bland though. 5. Crab cake (4/5): Crabby patty anyone? All I tasted was fried Panko batter. Wish the patty itself had more flavor and spice. The garlic aioli sauce that came with it though was good. 6. Dr. Marquis Salad (4/5): Fresh spring mix lettuce topped with ground beef and crispy bacon, tomato, sliced avocado and tossed with their house-made olive oil, salt and pepper dressing. I made a group reservation for our garden group. Hapy was very accommodating and set up a table in their lovely patio for 15 of us. As usual, the food was wonderful and authentic Mediterranean. The food was excellent..I loved the lamb sandwich but I probably wouldn't order it again. Why? It was super messy to eat. The sandwich consists of a tender piece of lamb, lettuce and feta cheese on olive bread. The bread is substantial and large, so one has to bite down hard which causes the feta cheese to slide out and the lettuce to move. The sandwich contents do not stay together in the bread. When I finished just half of this sandwich, there was feta cheese everywhere, including the plate, the table, the napkin and my blouse. It was frustrating and maybe there is some other way to put the flavors together without a mess. I would go to this restaurant again but I would avoid the lamb sandwich. read more

This is one of my go to spots when craving Mediterranean I always choose to sit outside (less noisy/busy and always perfectly heated) We got two appetizers - Hummus that comes with fluffy pita topped with olive oil and whole garbanzo beans (my go to appetizer) We also got the Potato skins - these were loaded with bacon and cheese. These exceeded my expectations! (First time ordering these) I got the beef kabob (filet Mignon cooked tenderly medium rare) with rice pilaf and grilled veggies - it even came with more hummus and tzatziki sauce - everything was SO flavorful - highly recommended My partner got the lamb sandwich - this thing was loaded with goat cheese and lamb! We moved to the area 5 years ago. Boy have we been missing out!!! The lamb kebab I ordered was seasoned well and was moist and tender. Perfectly done! I enjoyed my platter of rice and salad along with the kebab. My husband ordered a gyro sandwich and he liked that. Said his fries were cold so he didn't eat much of those. Hapy, located in Arroyo Grande, and has a wonderful indoor and outdoor patio and is an awesome spot to grab dinner with friends and family. Their outdoor patio has lots of seating, heaters, and they are dog friendly (yay)! Their indoor seating area has a massive wine selection, TVs and a good amount of space! We had been here a few times and have ordered the burger, the kabobs, the euro, and baklava. They just have really, really good Mediterranean food! Service is always great too which is nice and it's never insanely busy! If you are looking for really good Mediterranean food with a relaxed, inviting atmosphere this is the place to go! Not really sure why we were under the impression that Hapy was an Asian-inspired restaurant (which we quickly learned it is not), but we can definitely say it is everything, everywhere, all at once. We have found our new go-to for outrageously delicious French, Medi and Fusion cuisine. Every aspect of our dining experience exceeded our expectations in terms of ambiance, service, menu options, presentation, flavor, and value. Can't remember the name of my cocktail (too busy enjoying it in the moment), a grapefruit-infused variation on a margarita. Refreshing, not too sweet, well-crafted, and delicious. 9/10. Their hummus was an absolute show-stopper, paired with possibly the best, fluffiest pita we've ever had. 10/10. Their garbanzo bean soup was a creamy, savory delight, as were the button mushrooms. 9/10. The lamb kebabs as well as the ribeye with chimichurri and grilled-to-perfection vegetables were all incredibly delicious. 10/10. For dessert, an ample slice of their decadent cheesecake. Can something be too good? Yes, yes, it can, and I will tell you why.... I had honestly intended to take just a couple of bites and then let my husband enjoy the rest, but ... well ... at least he got the higher ratio of what ended up being closer to a 40/60 split. 10/10. Hapy kept popping up when we were searching for somewhere to eat that we figured we had to give them a try. We arrived at around 7pm on Sunday and were seated quickly. Our waiter was friendly and provided recommendations. I wasn't super hungry, so I ordered the Octopus. So glad I did as it was full of flavor, and the veggies were grilled perfectly and so good too. Hubs ordered the Kefta Kabobs and he was very happy with that dish as well. Hubs couldn't pass up the chocolate bread pudding for dessert. The outside appearance definitely doesn't prepare you for the feel inside. Set-up as maybe an elegant wine shop/restaurant, a nice indoor area to enjoy a meal. The faux starlit sky above the bar reminds me of my stay in Santorini. :-) I didn't notice a staff member upon entry so I sat myself at the bar. The bartender (I didn't catch his name) was friendly and attentive throughout, which is always appreciated. It is definitely on the pricier side, with appetizers alone averaging about $20. I ordered the Hot Desert (tequila and jalapeno)... It was just okay. Not bad but nothing to write home about. I had a hard time deciding for my meal because so many things sounded tasty, but being a party of one, you don't get to venture into the world of shared plates. I went with the oven roasted chicken with Greek salad and garlic mashed potatoes. The dish was a generous portion and smelled amazing upon arrival at my station. The chicken was disappointing, as I expected it to pack some level of punch in flavor, but while visibly seasoned, very little (if any) of it came out on the palate. The chicken was juicy though, which is a plus. The garlic mashed potatoes, however, were my favorite part of the meal. Based on the reviews, I wanted to love this place. It was just okay for me overall. I wish I had loved it. So much about the menu screamed that I would. Maybe if I tried something else in the future. Hapy's used to be great, unfortunately it has gone downhill, the owner seems to be absent and the food has gone to hell. We just ate there the other evening and it was absolutely terrible, we will not be going back, sadly enough. I ordered the fish and chips on Friday and was sure I received Mrs. Paul's fish sticks, disgusting, fries were from frozen and the cole slaw was somewhat edible, my husband order the lamb hamburger and it was so gross to look at and sloppy to try eat, such a shame because this used to be good dining, no mas people. Maybe just a bad night, but the last few times have been very sketchy, bummer. Not to mention the drinks were very bad, they say a full bar, well not true and their few homemade spirits are pretty pathetic, better off to order water with a lemon. read more

Excellent, crispy roasted bites of chicken (each bite is large, at least 2 or 3 actual bites), stuffed with a fantastic feta and herb deliciousness! Served on a generous, tasty salad bed. This is a must have! My guest had the lentil soup and was oohing and aahing about its deliciousness. I had the gyro salad. So delicious! You can taste the quality and love they put into the gyro. Excellent salad with a generous serving of gyro, and fresh pita, and a ton of vegetables/accouterments. The salad is a good compliment to the meat, so i wasn't too stuffed. Another must have! After spending the week working in the Central Coast, I felt a nice dinner was well deserved. Yelp led me to Hapy Bistro in Pismo Beach, and it did not disappoint. Even though it was early, to ensure a table I made a reservation since Hapy does take reservations, I was warmly greeted and seated at my table graced with a name tag just for me. The ambiance here goes from slightly fancy in the front tables to super-casual in the outdoor dining rear portion of the restaurant. There is also a well-stocked full bar, as well. The Brander Sauvignon Blanc was the perfect wine to start a warm evening - light and crisp. My entree was Kevin's Style Oven Roasted Lamb, soft morsels of lamb pieces, broccoli florets, and bell peppers with tomato sauce, atop a bed of mashed potatoes. Amazing, balanced flavors, but wishful thinking had me looking frantically for more of the delicious slow-braised lamb. So good! For dessert, the Apple Bread Pudding a la Mode was a treat, to be sure. Topped with caramel sauce drizzle, it was easily large enough for two. The big scoop of vanilla ice cream assured me of a taste of ice cream with every bite of bread pudding. Done and dusted all by myself. And I couldn't pass up a Moccachino to pair with dessert. The service at Hapy in the patio for lunch is very friendly and hospitable. But is there anyway they can decrease the intense exhaust from the large trucks that congregate right outside the patio? It is unhealthy for guests and staff. The food is good and well-selected and presented for the most part. However the lamb burger was mushy and condensed, as though it had been over-processed so it sticks to guests' teeth. Another reviewer described the gyro as being made into a paste. Ick. read more
