If you're looking for great seafood in the Pismo area, Ada's does a great job with a variety of preparations. Even during the off-season, they can get busy for dinners so make a reservation, especially if you have a larger group. The patio is dog friendly and they have a private parking lot. We started the meal with a half dozen fresh oysters which were cleaned well and served with some Tabasco, an herby vinegar, and lemons. Fresh warm bread and butter were also provided to start the meal. We got the steamed clams which were absolutely delicious. Done with a classic garlicky white sauce, the clams were fresh with no unpleasant fishy smells or tastes. The seafood pasta is the reason we return to Ada's year after year. There's a huge assortment of seafood included and all of the individual ingredients are well cooked unlike most seafood pastas. The mussels were small and very mild in flavor, almost tasting like clams. A flaky white fish as well as a more meaty fish were also included and weren't overcooked. Expensive but solid spot. Best clam chowder I've ever had hands down. So well seasoned, creamy, piping hot, but best of all it was insanely loaded! So many clams, potatoes and more. I would recommend dipping the complimentary sour dough in that. The grilled artichoke was something I've never had before and it was interesting! Really enjoyed the lemon aioli it came with but it was otherwise quite plain on its own. We shared some oysters as well but those were mediocre; a bit too watery, really small, and not the best mouthfeel. The salsa it came with was also way too punchy and took away from the oysters I feel. For entrees, we had the cioppino and scallops. The cioppino was very flavorful and they definitely did not skimp on the seafood! Scallops were solid too. Service was 10/10 excellent. Our waiter was really conversational and friendly. We were sat outside and it took awhile to get our check, as I think the workers spend most of their time inside the restaurant. Glad to have returned to Pismo area to try Ada's Fish again after first having during covid when they had temp outside setup. Told that now it's a permanent outdoor patio, but we sat inside this time:) Had the sand dabs for the first time at that time, which started my family's love of sand dabs since, eating it from Monterey to SB, wherever we go, lol. Couldn't get 3 for 3 of us, so I went ahead and ended up trying lobster roll since I haven't had one in probably a decade or more. My mistake for picking a lobster instead of fish entree. Had good lobster pieces, but not much flavor, even pouring on the butter. The bread was good, but lobster just didn't pack much flavor for me. Maybe I was supposed to get it cold dressed version instead of hot with butter? Not sure, guess I'm just not a lobster roll person, since I remember the last one I had long ago also left me kind of disappointed. TL; DR - friendly service, dog friendly patio seating, food is delicious, ask for a second serving of their bread! Made reservations here for lunch on a Monday, which wasn't needed since we got there at opening. But if you plan to come for dinner, reservations are the way to go! We planned to walk in on a Saturday night and the wait was 1.5 hours long. We had our pup with us so we were seated on the patio. It was a bit chilly so they turned on the heaters. Plenty of space between tables so no need to worry if your pup might encroach on another table. Their complementary bread basket was warm sourdough rolls served with butter. THE BEST! Would order everything we got again: Clam chowder was creamy, thick, and packed full of clams and potatoes. Fish and chips were crispy, lightly battered and still moist. We were going to take my sister to the Cracked Crab but thought to ask her advice as she is a long time local. She said Ada's was better and a superior value. Since she was joining us, we went with her recommendation. When on the Central Coast always go with the locals. They know. Ada's offers three very nice dining options. And since we actually ate there twice in two days (once on the patio with my sister's dog and the next night inside), I can honestly say that they all offer an exceptional dining experience. The patio is nicely sheltered and comfortable and the interior seating is spacious and not cramped at all. There is also seating in the cocktail area next to the window up front. This could be the best option of the three if there are two in your party and you like sitting at a high table with a view. Over our two meals, we sampled the fresh halibut, the sand dabs, the fish tacos, the scallops and the seafood pasta. We also had the clam chowder both nights (it is exceptional). If you happen to order the au gratin potatoes, please be warned that they are a little overly rich. As much as I loved them, I could only consume a third of what was on the plate. You could make a case for just ordering them by themselves. All dishes were delicious and well prepared. The sand dabs, which are a personal favorite of mine, were as good as it gets. Our servers, Ella on the first visit and Rhonda on the second, were both exceptional in their own special way. Great for lunch! We stopped by Ada's Fish House on a Monday afternoon and got seated right away on the spacious patio. The ambiance was casual and pleasant. For drinks, I got an unsweetened Iced Tea, which was predictably good. We ordered a half dozen raw Oysters, which were nice and fresh, and came with a tasty herby mignonette. We also got the Brussel Sprouts, Fried Calamari, and Steamed Mussels. I was obsessed with the Brussel Sprouts! Dinner Table Was Like A Tanning Bed..... My wife and I did something we rarely do.....have dinner at a restaurant on Valentine's Day. We learned long ago there are better ways to celebrate the holiday than to visit a place on one of its most stressful times of the year. I could share horror stories from the past, but 2 other couples wanted to give it a shot so off we went to Ada's in Pismo Beach. Strangely enough, our experience was better than the last one! Pros: - Food: Very good. I began with Shrimp Cocktail ($17) which had 5 large shrimp surrounded by pieces of other fish. Not a bad start. That was followed by a Fish Sandwich and side salad ($20). The sandwich was huge with a massive chunk of cod between 2 slices of a bun. Maybe not gourmet, but good and certainly filling. I washed it down with a glass of Firestone 805 on draft ($8). My wife had an entree of Scallops ($38) which she said "were among the best I can remember". She had 2 glasses of wine during the festivities.....Daou Chardonnay ($13) and a house Rose ($13). The table shared 2 baskets of sourdough rolls (free) which were warm and quite good. I don't know enough about the dishes for the other 4 people, but nobody complained. - Service: Fine. Despite a full house...the inside tables were all taken and the large patio was bustling...our server, Jonalene, managed to keep things moving while remaining friendly and helpful. Con: - Heat: It was a cold night in February, but the lowest setting on overhead heaters by the patio was SCORCHING. Although our table was just inside the wall from the sidewalk along Price Avenue, it felt like the middle of a microwave. We literally prayed for a breeze. Why did this happen? When we arrived with reservations for 6 people at 545 PM, we asked for an inside table....but wait for one was an hour. We went outside which was also crowded, but had a few open spots. Why didn't they ask if we wanted something "in" versus "out" when we originally called? We ordered the clam chowder, steamed clams, a New York steak, and the fish of the day. The clam chowder was just okay -- a bit on the watery side and lacking the richness we were hoping for. The New York steak was very disappointing; we ordered it medium rare, but it came out well done and extremely overcooked. The fish of the day was also overcooked, dry, and not as flavorful as it should have been. Service was also just okay. Stopped by for quick lunch on return trip home. Had lots of good reviews and plates looked delicious. Absolutely fantastic in all areas! The girl who greeted us when we walked in and seated us was very friendly and had one the biggest smiles making us feel welcome. There were plenty of tables which started filling up shortly after we got there. The ambience is great with a good view wherever you sit. The restrooms look brand new or newly remodeled and were super clean as was raw entire restaurant for that matter. All staff worked well together and provided great servi ce. Now onto the food. We arrived to Pismo Beach one late Sunday summer afternoon, and our very first meal for the family trip was Ada's...Boy, was that a mistake! Because it was the BEST dining experience, and everything else the rest of the week paled in comparison lol Our party of 7 arrived around 5pm and somehow got seated immediately. A party must have just left, but I would recommend getting reservations. Patio seating was perfect with the soft sunshine. We went crazy on the menu, ordering the cioppino, lobster mac and cheese, seafood pasta, mystic oysters, and my personal favorite - the crispy, caramelized delicious brussel sprouts with bacon bits (A-Maz-ing!) Ada's in Pismo Beach was an incredible experience and easily my favorite meal in Pismo Beach. We started with warm sourdough bread and butter which was the perfect start to the meal. We ordered the oysters, seafood pasta, and the cioppino and everything was amazing. The oysters were fresh and delicious. The seafood pasta was packed with seafood and the sauce was so flavorful. The cioppino was outstanding and loaded with seafood. Every dish was a 10/10. For drinks we had a jalapeño margarita and a Chief Peak IPA which were both great and paired perfectly with the food. What really made the experience unforgettable though was our waitress Rhonda. She was absolutely amazing, so friendly, warm, and genuinely sweet. She went above and beyond and made us feel so welcome the entire time. Rhonda will honestly have a special place in my heart because she made the entire experience so memorable and enjoyable. Our regular place that we normally order this exact meal from let us wait a whole hour before they decided to cancel the delivery. So this was the only place that had an artichoke and a lobster roll at the same time so we ordered from there and it was very expensive. For the meal you see here it was about $85. The lobster roll by itself was $32 before tax. I know the delivery service probably takes quite a bit, but we were using their own app through Google. My artichoke wasn't as good at the regular place I've been to. The lobster roll was tiny like the size of a finger. It was good. But never again due to price. read more

So I had to ask if my food was ready. They seem very helpful. Maybe it was too busy for them. I order on the phone and the food was ready on time. The lobster portion in the bread was great. The portion or the fries were good too. But I didn't like that the bread got soggy very quick. To ky taste I would've liked it a different type of bread. Something not easily to get soggy. Maybe it's just me. The ambiance it's very casual. They have seating inside and outside. They do have parking on the side of the restaurant. Clam chowder: I have yet to encounter a clam chowder at any decent place in the Central Coast that isn't good and Ada's isn't any exception. Rich and creamy without being overwhelmingly so. Comes with oyster crackers to add a bit of contrasting texture to that creaminess. No lingering fishiness. Warm toasty sourdough comes complimentary and was perfect for sopping up any leftover remnants of chowder. Fish and chips: Comes with 3 pieces. The batter does come a bit thick but the cod itself is thick as well so it sort of makes up for it. The fries are thick cut and perfectly crispy. The tartar sauce is extra flavorful without having an overpowering fattiness to it. Banana Mai Tai: The drinks here are sweet. Almost too sweet. The banana taste wasn't too artificial but it was hard to taste any alcohol - probably because of the sweetness. Came in a really cute pineapple glass though! Sunset: Not as sweet as the Banana Mai Tai but still pretty sweet. Tasted like juice; couldn't taste too much of the alcohol. One dimensional despite how many different fruit flavors there are incorporated inside it. Also comes in a cute pineapple glass. Service is friendly - we were checked on regularly and there was no delay in getting things that we needed (eg. bread refills, additional condiments, water). Depending on where you sit, you can see a little bit of the beach. Would not really consider this a beachside view restaurant by any means. The interior is clean and modern. I was craving fresh oysters and wow, did these deliver! I forgot what kind these were but they were super fresh and paired well with chef's house mignonette. I tried a few without the hot sauce, because they were amazing by themselves, but I like a little spice. I also had a cup of the lobster bisque and it was some of the best lobster bisque I have ever tasted with chunks of lobster at the bottom of the bowl. I did not take a picture but this is worth the $13! They do not always have it so take advantage. It does not disappoint! The bartender was super friendly and attentive. This seafood restaurant is a few miles inland from the beach. Make sure to snag a reservation because they are a popular spot for both locals and tourists! We were also traveling with our dog and they have tons of outdoor seating, making it pet friendly. We were even able to order a pup patty for him to enjoy! My boyfriend and I shared an order of the fried calamari and a bowl of clam chowder. The calamari could've used another minute in the fryer to get it nice and crispy, but was otherwise good. The clam chowder is on the thicker side, but we didn't mind! I had the grilled fish sandwich and would order it for every visit!
