    Clam Chowder Cup ($9)
    Rachel L.

Expensive but solid spot. Best clam chowder I've ever had hands down. So well seasoned, creamy, piping hot, but best of all it was insanely loaded! So many clams, potatoes and more. I would recommend dipping the complimentary sour dough in that. The grilled artichoke was something I've never had before and it was interesting! Really enjoyed the lemon aioli it came with but it was otherwise quite plain on its own. We shared some oysters as well but those were mediocre; a bit too watery, really small, and not the best mouthfeel. The salsa it came with was also way too punchy and took away from the oysters I feel. For entrees, we had the cioppino and scallops. The cioppino was very flavorful and they definitely did not skimp on the seafood! Scallops were solid too. Service was 10/10 excellent. Our waiter was really conversational and friendly. We were sat outside and it took awhile to get our check, as I think the workers spend most of their time inside the restaurant. It was gloomy when we visited but the heated lamps overhead kept us nice and warm.

Glad to have returned to Pismo area to try Ada's Fish again after first having during covid when they had temp outside setup. Told that now it's a permanent outdoor patio, but we sat inside this time:) Had the sand dabs for the first time at that time, which started my family's love of sand dabs since, eating it from Monterey to SB, wherever we go, lol. Since we wanted to relive the first sand dabs, we got 2 orders for lunch! Great fish and the rice pilaf was superbly good with it. Kid loved his fries. Couldn't get 3 for 3 of us, so I went ahead and ended up trying lobster roll since I haven't had one in probably a decade or more. My mistake for picking a lobster instead of fish entree. Had good lobster pieces, but not much flavor, even pouring on the butter. The bread was good, but lobster just didn't pack much flavor for me. Maybe I was supposed to get it cold dressed version instead of hot with butter? Not sure, guess I'm just not a lobster roll person, since I remember the last one I had long ago also left me kind of disappointed. Anyway, that's me, I should have gotten a fish sandwich or fish tacos or something. Side salad with vinegrette dressing was nice. There was plenty of sand dabs, so I got to enjoy the fish and rice pilaf. Actually, I ended up loving the squash/zucchini that came with it! I mean, I ate all of them since wife didn't eat it. In fact, I was loving it when the same veggies came out for dinner at Vista Steak & Seafood and ate that up too, lol! I think it's best to stick to the namesake "fish" from Ada's Fish~

TL; DR - friendly service, dog friendly patio seating, food is delicious, ask for a second serving of their bread! Made reservations here for lunch on a Monday, which wasn't needed since we got there at opening. But if you plan to come for dinner, reservations are the way to go! We planned to walk in on a Saturday night and the wait was 1.5 hours long. We had our pup with us so we were seated on the patio. It was a bit chilly so they turned on the heaters. Plenty of space between tables so no need to worry if your pup might encroach on another table. Their complementary bread basket was warm sourdough rolls served with butter. THE BEST! Would order everything we got again: Clam chowder was creamy, thick, and packed full of clams and potatoes. Fish and chips were crispy, lightly battered and still moist. Seafood Pasta had lots of seafood with linguini in a red cream sauce. They have their own parking lot; parking also available on street. Service was friendly and quick!

We were going to take my sister to the Cracked Crab but thought to ask her advice as she is a long time local. She said Ada's was better and a superior value. Since she was joining us, we went with her recommendation. When on the Central Coast always go with the locals. They know. Ada's offers three very nice dining options. And since we actually ate there twice in two days (once on the patio with my sister's dog and the next night inside), I can honestly say that they all offer an exceptional dining experience. The patio is nicely sheltered and comfortable and the interior seating is spacious and not cramped at all. There is also seating in the cocktail area next to the window up front. This could be the best option of the three if there are two in your party and you like sitting at a high table with a view. Over our two meals, we sampled the fresh halibut, the sand dabs, the fish tacos, the scallops and the seafood pasta. We also had the clam chowder both nights (it is exceptional). If you happen to order the au gratin potatoes, please be warned that they are a little overly rich. As much as I loved them, I could only consume a third of what was on the plate. You could make a case for just ordering them by themselves. All dishes were delicious and well prepared. The sand dabs, which are a personal favorite of mine, were as good as it gets. Our servers, Ella on the first visit and Rhonda on the second, were both exceptional in their own special way. This leads me to believe that while they were both well trained, they were hired for their individual personalities and not simply their ability to do what they're told. This always makes for the best dining experience.

Great for lunch! We stopped by Ada's Fish House on a Monday afternoon and got seated right away on the spacious patio. The ambiance was casual and pleasant. For drinks, I got an unsweetened Iced Tea, which was predictably good. We ordered a half dozen raw Oysters, which were nice and fresh, and came with a tasty herby mignonette. We also got the Brussel Sprouts, Fried Calamari, and Steamed Mussels. I was obsessed with the Brussel Sprouts! These were perfectly crispy, and I loved the dried cherries along with the balsamic glaze. The Fried Calamari was also awesome and came with two different creamy sauces. We also loved the Steamed Mussels and their flavorful garlic tomato broth. Our server was super friendly and everything came out quickly. Definitely worth the visit!

Came here on a quick weekend day trip. Ended up ordering the burger and fries with soda. Was beefy but it felt just meh average burger. Not sure if I'd order that again. Soda was flat. Oysters were good and fresh. Fairly good amount of sea based selection Service was good. And the place was humming and they have indoor and covered outdoor seating. Overall, nothing much to say other than ok.

The place looks really casual and light. We were seated right away but it took a bit of time to get our order and find the person waiting on us for when we needed something. I ordered the oyster special of the day and they were good and fresh! Our company ordered the shrimp entree which she enjoyed. We also ordered the burger and it was just meh. Had it not for that my review would have been better.

    Sand dabs are a must!

We had a party of 8 with reservations Sunday for lunch. We were greeted and seated immediately. We had a table out on the patio in perfect weather. Alexis was amazing! She was so friendly and provided us with excellent service. Everyone loved their food. We started with the grilled artichoke and oysters. Between all of us we had chicken sandwiches, fish and chips, sand dabs and the cioppino. Everything was delicious! I don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu. I would definitely go back again!

    Fish & Chips

This is a really nice spot for a meal. I had the fish & chips and my husband had the shrimp. The fish & chips were not that good because the breading on the fish was soggy and greasy. It seemed as if it wasn't cooked thoroughly because of the mushiness of the breading. I have it on good authority that the shrimp was delicious and cooked perfectly. The shrimp were large and plentiful and plated quite nicely. We shared fried calamari, which was very good. Service was very good. The waitress was friendly and informative. She checked on us without being intrusive. The restaurant is casual but still nice enough for a more formal celebration. There is a parking lot. We arrived early enough to get street parking in front of the restaurant.

We went for lunch and ordered lobster&mac&cheese, shrimp cocktail, clam chowder, and kids menu. Alexis was friendly and quick about service. Clam chowder was very good and i love it. Shrimp cocktail sauce was fantastic. Mac&cheese was too thick and felt too much cheese i think. In total $92 including tips.

Very good fish and chips with plenty of fresh crispy fish and a dilly tartar sauce which I really enjoyed.

Solid, cozy restaurant with some very tasty seafood options. Appreciated the nice wine by the glass and half bottle options. Tried the New England style clam chowder and it was delicious with plenty of clams. The fish and chips were a very reasonably priced and tasty option. I've seen some comments that it wasn't seasoned (=salty) enough but I disagree. I appreciated that it wasn't drowned in salt and I could taste the fresh cod and crispy coating. The fries were also excellent. The hit of the night however, was the cioppino. Loaded with seafood and a very tasty tomato broth that was light and not heavy on any unnecessary herbs. Too full for dessert. Our server was cheerful, efficient and helpful. Cozy indoor seating and ambience on a chilly night. Nothing pretentious and we loved all we ate. Really enjoyed dinner here and decent prices.

We were really looking forward to dining at Ada's Fish House given all the great reviews, but unfortunately, it didn't quite meet our expectations. We ordered the clam chowder, steamed clams, a New York steak, and the fish of the day. The clam chowder was just okay -- a bit on the watery side and lacking the richness we were hoping for. The New York steak was very disappointing; we ordered it medium rare, but it came out well done and extremely overcooked. The fish of the day was also overcooked, dry, and not as flavorful as it should have been. Service was also just okay. We were seated outside, and I'm not sure if that contributed to it, but no one really checked in on us throughout the meal. Overall, it was a bit disappointing.

Stopped by for quick lunch on return trip home. Had lots of good reviews and plates looked delicious. Absolutely fantastic in all areas! The girl who greeted us when we walked in and seated us was very friendly and had one the biggest smiles making us feel welcome. There were plenty of tables which started filling up shortly after we got there. The ambience is great with a good view wherever you sit. The restrooms look brand new or newly remodeled and were super clean as was raw entire restaurant for that matter. All staff worked well together and provided great servi ce. Now onto the food. Absolutely delicious and freshly prepared. We ordered the fresh fish as well as the fish and chips. Had sweet potato fries, squash, and green beans for the sides. We also went thru 2 baskets of their sourdough bread. The flavor of everything was fantastic. This will be one of our must visits whenever we are in the area again.

I was a bit dismayed to find, upon arrival, that the options were kind of limited. I was still torn between the tacos, the birria fries and the spicy chicken sandwich. I took a chance and went with the chicken sandwich, hoping that it wouldn't be too spicy. I also ordered a side of fries, not knowing that the sandwich came with fries already. I don't know why I thought the sandwich same by itself. My mistake. The chicken sandwich was very good. A bit spicy but not to the point I couldn't finish it. It also had this nice sweet taste that contrasted well with the spice. I knew my wife would like it so I let her have a bite. I was also curious about my sons birria fries so I stole a bite of those. I recommend if you come in a group, be sure to share some. It would also be nice if you could upgrade the fries that come with your meal to birria fries, you know for an extra $2 or something. From what I can tell, everything is good here. If I could, next time I'm getting birria tacos with a side of birria fries! Probably the only gripe I could find was that service was on the slow side. 2 people were responsible for the whole restaurant, besides the cooking in the back. One mostly manned the bar and the other roamed the tables while helping behind the bar too. It wasn't that busy and the place isn't that big. My man wasn't lazy and was always doing something. It's just that paying the bill was a process. Eventually I got up to go pay rather than wait for the bill to come to us. I'm happy to have found The Break and hope to come back

The manager completely lost control screaming, swearing, and behaving aggressively toward a grandfather and his two young grandchildren in front of everyone inside. We saw this with our own eyes. After the outburst, I spoke with the grandfather to understand what triggered this. He explained that the boys had been there the day before playing pool with family and friends and had returned for another visit. Their grandmother had brought them each a small bowl of soup because they didn't want the food offered there. Without any calm discussion or warning, the manager suddenly rushed over, yelling for them to "get their food out of here right this GD minute." Then, in a way that shocked everyone standing nearby, he snatched the soup from one of the kids and forcefully pulled a bag out of the child's hands as they were trying to leave. He continued shouting profanity including multiple F-bombs directly at the grandfather, all while the two young children stood there visibly upset. The entire place went silent. People looked stunned and uncomfortable. I've never seen anything like this in a place that's supposed to be family-friendly. In my opinion, the grandfather showed incredible restraint by not involving law enforcement. We had just walked in to play a few games with friends, but after witnessing that level of hostility and unprofessionalism, we turned around and left immediately. Outside, the grandfather told me the manager still refused to return one of their personal bags, which added to the concern. Later, when I mentioned the incident to a few nearby business owners and locals, several of them said they were unfortunately not surprised. They shared that they had heard of issues involving this manager in the past. I can't personally verify those claims, but hearing the same thing from multiple unrelated people definitely raises concerns. And sure enough, other online reviews describe behavior similar to what we witnessed firsthand. My strong recommendation: avoid this place entirely. No customer especially a child should ever be subjected to that kind of behavior from a manager. The grandfather later sent me a photo of the individual involved so that we could make our local friends in the Pismo area aware of who he was.
