First, you line up at the entrance, then you ring the doorbell, but only once as the sign warns. You are greeted through a peekaboo window in the door where they ask your party size. You are then taken in groups of three or less to a vestibule where they lock down your phones so you can't take any pictures and then you are seated in the dark and moody atmosphere. They don't split checks, so be ready to order as a group. There's a 90 minute time limit as well, so don't dawdle. Highlights of our order included the Butter Pecan Old Fashioned (so good!) and the Banana Daiquiri. We stayed for the full 90 minutes and when we left there was a long line waiting to get in. Go early if you want to get one of the few seats inside or be prepared to wait. We loved our experience.

We arrived just minutes after 5pm on a Thursday, with only one group ahead of us -- about a 5-minute wait before we were ushered in. They do check IDs, so bring one, or find somewhere else to drink. After the secret knock and moving a book in the entryway library, the door opens into a 1920s-style bar: heavy, dark wood, and very limited seating, with just 8 seats at the bar and two larger seating areas for groups. I believe our bartender's name was Matt -- the last of the original employees since Eleven Twenty-Two opened eight years ago. He was great, walking my girlfriend through the menu when she asked for recommendations, and sharing some great insight when we asked about the bar's history and the mixology behind the drinks. She started the evening with a Mexican Firing Squad -- very margarita-like, with tequila, lime, house-made grenadine, and Angostura. I wasn't quite as adventurous and wanted to keep things simple, so my first round was a martini, stirred and dry. The fun didn't stop there, since we had 90 minutes to relax before our dinner reservation. Round two was a Slow and Foamy -- a lemongrass- and fennel-infused vodka with egg white. It was an interesting drink; flavors you wouldn't expect to work together, worked together beautifully. It's an in-house creation by the female bartender, whose name I didn't catch. Torn between a Sidecar and a Manhattan, I went with the Sidecar, since I hadn't found a good one anywhere else in Paso. Matt poured a really nice one -- not too sweet, with a sugar-rimmed glass and well-balanced simple syrup. Like every drink that night, it was beautifully balanced. We finished with a Banana Daiquiri -- their unique take on the drink, without the slushy ice or fake banana flavor. This was probably the best drink of the night for both of us, and we shared it. It's not cheap, but a night out for drinks never is. That wouldn't stop me from bringing out-of-town guests here -- they'd love this kind of historical, speakeasy-style setting. Security should make you feel safe not disrespected... anyway... admittedly i did call him out in my way out and he made an unprofessional comment to his audience and this other security guard tried telling us to leave... We were on our way out already... anyways don't come here unless you want the security to think they can touch you inappropriately on their live stream for some attention. by the way management if you're reading this it was the guy working the 4th of july evening shift and he had a cowboy hat on and some glasses :-)

As a paying customer, I did not find this behavior appropriate or humorous. It felt unprofessional and left a negative impression of the overall experience. I hope management addresses this matter with their staff and reinforces the importance of professionalism, respectful customer service, and proper etiquette when interacting with guests.

I was denied entry solely because I have a service dog, which is discrimination under the ADA. This…read moreis the second incident with this establishment where they have discriminated against me (I want to mention my prior experience my service dog came with me and was under control at all times and we were never asked to leave, so there was no prior incident for us). On arrival, my service dog was heeling calmly and under full control while the bouncer spoke with us. Despite this, I was told I could not enter because the establishment downstairs had previously had "an incident" with a different service animal. Denying access based on a past experience with another dog is not lawful. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, service animals may only be excluded if that specific animal is out of control or not housebroken--neither of which applied here. My dog was behaving impeccably and performing their trained tasks. Loudness, past incidents, or personal assumptions are not valid reasons to refuse a service animal. This was not a misunderstanding--it was a refusal of access based on disability. I hope management educates their staff on ADA compliance so future disabled patrons are not treated this way. I will not be spending my money here and urge others to do the same based on their discriminatory behavior.

Perhaps the onus was on me to recognize the shape of a tourist trap, but I was optimistic about this restaurant based on some reviews. The "crudo" plate is nothing of the sort beyond a few sliced pieces of fish on a bed of ice (if you know anything about serving *sashimi*, this is a no-no); to call something "crudo" which is, effectively, a sashimi platter feels... somewhat misleading. We also ordered a selection of oysters and were disappointed to see they were haphazardly shucked so much so that many of the oysters would not detach from their shells as we attempted to eat them. There's nothing so inelegant as trying to suck down an oyster and finding it won't budge (even after you've gently coaxed it with the appropriate utensil). The service also left something to be desired. We ordered a first round of cocktails and wine, and the server never checked on us again to see if we would like another round. I usually don't like to make such late reservations (we arrived for an 8:30pm reservation), so perhaps our server was busy with trying to finish their shift, but it felt like an egregous oversight to both 1) not be asked if we would like more drinks when our glasses were empty for 20 minutes, and 2) to not check in on our waters (we were handed a bottle and we ran out of water throughout the course of our meal, and no one seemed to care). Our dinner was also, unfortunately, interrupted by a large table behind us (about 10-15 people) who were incredibly inebriated and having a raucous good ol' time together (kudos for them, but if you want a more romanic or peaceful setting then I may suggest you dine elsewhere). It may behoove the manager to consider asking such guests to be considerate of others who are dining 3 feet from a group that was easily 6 martinis into their dining experience before their food came. Is the view gorgeous? Yes. Is it worth the price, and the seeming lack of service? Absolutely not. I will not be returning, but I suspect that is of little consequence when a restaurant such as this has the premium on prime dining real estate in this lil' beach town. May the luck be ever in your favor should you choose to dine here, and may you experience the bare modicum of service that such prices should include. Just my two cents!
