Interesting new fast food/fried chicken chain with some unique menu items. There are a few bar seats by the window, but it is mainly designed for takeout. The chicken looks black from a special secret mix of squid ink powder, and does NOT taste burnt or fishy at all. I had some leftovers, and it wasn't greasy (like most fried chicken places) even after it cooled down several hours later when I reheated it to eat. Friendly and fast service. My order: -Black Meteorite Wings $10: the chicken itself is quite juicy, and doesn't taste oily. I think the portion is also decent, as some of the wings are quite large. Crispy & flavourful. -Black Meteorite Burger (Spicy) $10.75: chicken quality is the same as the Black Meteorite Wings above. It is a pretty large piece of juicy chicken, and they don't cheap out by adding a lot of deep fried powder/coating. Only slight complaint is that the bun is a tad dry, and there isn't a lot of variety with the toppings inside the bun, although most chicken sandwiches aren't filled with much normally anyways (comes with fresh lettuce, a slice of processed cheese, sauce). Definitely has a spicy kick! It also comes regular (non-meteorite), for the same price I believe, but I'd recommend the meteorite one for the novelty of it. -Chicken Tenders & Chicken Popcorn: the most "normal" items from my order. It's pretty standard, and nothing special. There's an assortment of seasoning (eg. pepper salt, garlic, cumin) you can add-on for free, which is a bonus if you want some extra flavour. -Pistol (Chicken) Leg: Again, portion is good, you get a nice and heavy deep fried hunk of meat. I ordered on UberEats the spicy pistol legs. The description on the plural pistol legs was "2 spicy, juicy, meaty full legs" with full legs meaning leg and thigh attached. However, it meant only 1 full leg. At the price of $13.99, a leg and a thigh is out-of-this-world expensive. Misleading advertisement as well. I also ordered a "chicken snack platter" for $18.99. It came in a small box with half popcorn chicken, half tenders. Definitely not worth it. As for taste, the seasoning on the spicy pistol leg was nice. The chicken was juicy and was marinated. The popcorn chicken and tenders had a bitter taste, like too much baking soda or something alkaline was added in the marinade. Was not tasty. Even KFC popcorn chicken tastes better, and KFC is $10 for a whole bucket. All in all, two thighs, two legs, 2 boxes of a popcorn chicken/tender mix were $66 at the normal price. Good thing we had a discount on UberEats. This has been the most expensive chicken place I have ever tried, much more than any korean fried chicken. I don't think any fried chicken should be worth this price, unless you throw truffles and caviar on it. read more

This place is chirpy alright. All the staff turned to greet me. My order was a bit behind the due time but when it comes to good food, especially fried chicken, I don't mind waiting for the freshest piece to come out of the vat. The whole chicken was..THE whole chicken. No chopping no cutting. The whole chicken was served as one piece. I wonder how they cook it so thoroughly. The taste is delightful and every bite was crunchy and juicy. Dark or white, they're all good. My combo also included chicken tender stripes. They're all dark meat so not like the usual breast ones you see elsewhere. They tastes so tender. Just like the name. I must say they have such ultra cute packaging. The Eco bag it came in is a keeper! I appreciate the gloves but I think I prefer eating with my bare hands. I don't know. It just taste better. I tried ChirpyHut when my boyfriend was outta town, I tend to eat a bunch of fried chicken when he's gone since he's a vegetarian and doesn't eat it so it's my time to go nuts! I saw this little spot on a drive by and decided to give it a good old try. I ordered for delivery as it was during height of covid and I was so incredibly impressed with the packaging. I opened it up and there were gloves for my chicken fingers, and wet naps for afterward. I thought this was really thoughtful and a nice addition to the overall experience. The chicken was really quite tasty and so so juicy, I remember it dripping down my chin. I ordered a few thighs and wings along with fries. The fries too were honestly so good too which I find rare at chicken focussed restaurants. They were super crispy (and that's delivery) and salty deliciousness. Overall if you're looking for a chicken spot to satisfy the fried chicken hunger while also knocking them fries outta the park, hit this place up for sure! read more

I don't think there is one dish that crosses as much cultural boundaries as fried chicken and at least in North America, a family gathering is really not complete without someone bringing a large box of it. This is one dish always special to my heart. Chirpyhut really delivers to create an ultimate fried chicken feast and inspirations from different cultures. The first bite already draws you in. The umami from the juicy seasoned chicken, the spices on the crunchy yet not greasy coating is the trinity of great fried chicken and they nailed it. The taste also reminds us of properly cooked versions from bigger chain restaurants in the good old days. Black Meteorite Burger had supple soft buns, fresh veggies, good mayo sauce, American cheese, straightforward and executed very well. Such bold move, like a cross between McChicken and Big Mac, but prettier. Constructed just right, not too big nor small, so each mouthful you get a little bit of everything. Black Meteorite Wings were huge and looked so strikingly attractive. Fall off the bone meat, chicken fat/skin, who doesn't love it. Good for them to also use dark meat on their Popcorn Chicken, very flavourful, and the sprinkle of sweet plum powder, give them an extra dimension of flavour, very pleasant! From bite size popcorn chicken, tenders/wings/legs, to burgers and wraps, and the whole fried chickens, there is something each family member will enjoy. read more

I was craving for some chicken the other week because it's been super hot and the last thing I want to do is cook. I wanted to order some high five chicken but decided to try something new! My Mom has talked about this place before so I decided to give it a go. I was lucky bc there was buy 1 get 1 thing happening and I ended up ordering their fried chicken legs, chicken gristle, chicken snack platter (popcorn chicken and chicken tenders), and their black meteorite chicken wings, all half spicy half original. When I took a bite of the chicken it reminded me of my Grandma and it is definetly chinese chicken. -The fried chicken leg comes in 4 and they're quite small. But flavor and crisp was there. -chicken gristle, pretty much like popcorn chicken but its like chicken joints on the inside. My parents loved it. - chicken snack platter, comes with popcorn chicken and chicken tenders in a box. It was yummy, but they did get it mixed up when I asked for half and half and so my Mom was unable to eat her box.... Black meteorite wings were made with squid ink. It is good, slightly different from the other chicken but not much. Tasty. Overall, the food was good. Quite tasty and love the spice too.  I'll definitely order from here again! read more

Got to try out Chirpyhut's newest location on the busy eatery street of Cambie. I absolutely love how Chirpyhut have the cutest and most hilarious chinese slogans on their packaging! Great marketing! They even have packages of gloves and wet wipes for you. I went for the garlic flavour for the 6pcs wings and really enjoyed the very crispy batter! But think I'll opt for less seasoning next time - it was just a bit too salty I had to skip some the skin that was coated with the seasoning. read more

The fried chicken craving continues! Chirpyhut is a relatively new fried chicken place in town, it serves everything fried chicken, from chicken burgers, to 'charcoal' coated leg+things, to a whole fried chicken. I had the chance to give the classic fried chicken burger a try. I thought the brioche bun could've had more structure to it, it was pretty flattened by the time I ate it. I like the fact the chicken was 1) red meat and 2) marinated all the way through. I definitely could've had this as a chicken steak alone, minus the bun and all. Though, as fried chicken, it will need a much yummier (flakier + crispier) fried batter to excite my tastebuds. This fried chicken burger differs from the crowd with a hash brown tucked in between the layers. This is quite the hefty burger, but at approximately $15 each, excluding fries and a drink, this is likely a one-shot visit for me. read more

Last take out of 2020 and finishing with this amazing little fried chicken shop! JLGJ aka Chirpyhut Fried Chicken have a store in Richmond, but this VANCOUVER store is WAY BETTER! Not anything like that Richmond store. Definitely returning!! This is a small shop recently opened beginning of December 2020. Upon walking in you are greeted with friendly staff, store front is clean and tidy with easy parking. Due to COVID there is currently no seating inside so Take out it is. The chicken was well packed in a reusable bag and generous amount of wet naps and gloves were provided. Box was lined with paper and between favours so nothing get mixed. After a 25 mins drive home, the chicken in the box are are still crispy, definitely tasty and impressed me! There are 2 things that were brought home. Black chicken wings and chicken popcorn. Black chicken is colours by squid ink so it's black, seasoned and deep fried just right. Very tender and juicy inside and crispy on the outside without a very thick batter. I am a fan at first bite! Chicken popcorn was so tender and juicy! It's not anything I have ever tried. I keep repeating the word juicy because it is!! I am enjoying the light seasoned flavour and I am not running for water after finishing my meal. I had their meteorite chicken sandwich and wings and they were tender and juicy. The sando was pretty good as well. The charcoal bun and batter didn't add much flavour to the food. There was a hint of spice but I didn't have their original to compare. Nonetheless, the meal was still very enjoyable but if you're looking for a blow your mind experience because of the black bun then, I assure you the black bun didn't taste any different than a regular bun to me. It is April, 2021: Lockdown to no indoor dining. The Hubs and I decided to try Chirpyhut to see how it actually taste like since we have a promo coupon. We walked in after 15 mins of ordering and it was still not ready as they see our order in the system, but can't find our order. We waited for another 10 mins for them to redo our order. So, the whole order took 25mins. In between the time, we saw countless of drivers coming in to grab orders. The inside is not that big, can fit about 3-4 couples tables and the window ledge can fit about 3 people standing upon reopening. When we were there, we saw 4 workers and 1 working the service desk. Our verdict on the food: - Pistol chicken: (3/5) juicy, spicy is good spicy (not rip your face off spicy), good crunch to the skin, not too deep fried, not too oily looking at the oil stain on the bag, not much batter and mostly chicken. No flavour/spice on the batter. Basically, this one piece is equivalent to 1 piece of thigh + 1 piece of drumstick of Church's Chicken. $12 reg price - not worth it. - Chicken tenders: (2/5) more batter than pistol chicken. A tad over deep fried and it was not as 'tender' (a bit dry), came in 6 pieces. No spice/flavour on the batter. $12 reg price - I prefer Costco tenders. - Black Meteorite Burger: (3/5) honestly, more novelty/gimmick than anything ("Oh cool! Ma, I ate a black burger!"). The chicken portion is a bit heftier than a McChicken, but the bun is about the same size and the taste is similar. We did not distinguish a difference in taste, except there's a piece of cheddar cheese - damn, a slice of cheese. $13 reg price - unless you have some hots for this place, you can likely get an amazing mouth feel from other fast food places like A&W or McD's. Overall: There are so many other fried chicken options. We don't think this is the one for us given the price to taste and portions ratio. read more

I get the occasional craving for fried chicken, and noticed that this little place recently opened in my neighbourhood, so I decided to give it a try. I went for the burger combo, which was a chicken burger, fries and a drink, and it came to $12.00 before tip, which is not bad. The burger was a good size, but for me it was a disappointment. I'm used to Western-style chicken burgers which tend to be all-white breast meat, and that's not what this was. Chirpy Hut is a Chinese chain, and they may use different parts of the bird for their burgers than what is typical in North America- I think it may have been made with chicken thigh instead. I know a lot of people prefer chicken thigh over breast meat, as it tends to be juicier, however, the burger had an unpleasant soft mushy texture. My main issue with the burger was that it had a worrisome pink tinge. It's the first thing I saw when I bit into the meat. I dismantled the bun and tried to examine the meat more closely. I honestly couldn't tell if it had been cooked thoroughly or not, and decided not to risk it. Burger went into the trash, and I just ate the fries, which were definitely nothing to write home about - strange texture and soggy even after trying to crisp them in the oven. I wouldn't recommend, but if people are curious, I'd advise trying their wings or tenders instead of the burger - they might be crispier. read more
