    Family Fries (large)
    Victor L.

Ok, I've been wanting to try this place out for a while now. I usually read reviews before I even attempt to walk into a place unknown. I must admit, the reviews are right! One of the best places to get fried chicken. No disappointments. I got the 10 piece Family Meal (10pcs chicken (half/half), "Family" (large) fries, and medium gravy). They have the right crispiness level for both the spicy and regular, surprising as I usually have to order the spicy in order to get that satisfying crunch. Anyways, the spicy is quite light on the "spice". The fries were good, although I like my fries extra crunchy; they were soft to bite into but still had a crispy exterior. The gravy. What can I say, but wow! It's actually made with a roux (flour, fat). I've never in my life experienced real gravy when ordering fried chicken. Needless to say, that's some tasty gravy I was told to wait 5 minutes when ordering, and that's what I got. My regular chicken was still piping hot when I bit into it 10 minutes later. The spicy one was still hot, but had cooled. Overall, what a pleasant experience. I didn't even get the prompt for tipping as there wasn't one . You honestly can't argue with the price. I've never ever gotten a 10 piece, large fries, and a regular gravy for $35 or anywhere close to that. Go to Churches or Jollybee and it's easily $10 more. Super friendly, counter staff. Fast service and you get what they say. This might just be my new go to place whenever I'm in the area. Gotta watch the weight though One thing that you might want to be cautious of is if your parking there. It can be a little on the more compact side. Still space between cars, but watch out when someone is pulling out.

This place is an institution... I don't understand how they haven't expanded to further locations?? Love the mom-n-pop shop vibes and a menu board from the eighties to go along with it.. prices are very reasonable.. we paid $40 for a 12 pc combo with med fries and gravy.. chicken is both super crispy yet super juicy.. couple gripes being spicy chicken could be a lot spicier and they are cash only

fast food deep fried chicken joint in richmond

we showed up at la chicken at around 6:30 pm on saturday and strangely, it didn't look busy. we tried calling ahead to place our order, but it went straight to their voicemail. la chicken is fast food, located in a tiny strip mall, there's no place to dine in anymore, and they've blocked the washroom off with their tables. this casual spot serves tasty fried chicken. it's kind of hard to find, if you aren't familiar with richmond, located on 11780 thorpe road, just load it on your gps, it'll be worth it. we ordered the 15 pieces, (serves five to seven people, but this is for just the two of us, no judgements please), chicken only (no sides), white and dark meat, and crispy (not really spicy at all, get this instead of the regular recipe). we were told the wait would be about ten minutes, no problem as i recall waiting 30 minutes in the past. we had to deal with some sort of stall in richmond, which took about 40 minutes, and i was worried our chicken would get soggy, but it wasnt. golden and crispy on the outside, deep fried chicken, juicy and flavourful on the inside, it's that perfect crunch that just hits the spot. i practically inhaled three and a half pieces. so relieved la chicken is as good as i remembered it to be. i'm pretty sure we got more than 15 pieces (but who's counting). this is the standard to which we compare all other fried chicken to.

Spicy Fried Chicken wasn't really spicy at all lol, not sure what spice was in here. Gravy was so thick, unbearably thick I would say. Fries were good. Can't say we'll be coming back cause it's not technically cheap either. 3/5

Do you like hot, juicy, perfectly breaded chicken? Well then, do I have a recommendation for you. Today I stopped by and ordered the 10 piece chicken sans gravy and fries, just pure chicken. We opted for five pieces of spicy and five pieces of original. Both did not disappoint. The spicy has a bit more texture in terms of the breading while the original is a bit more flat; I really love crispy though so the spicy one really hit the spot. Also, don't be alarmed by the word spicy because I to be honest did not taste much in regards to spicy and really I found the only difference to be that the breading was as mentioned more crispy and textured. There is ample parking in the parking lot where LA Chicken resides however you probably can also park across the street in the giant complex and walk over. The cost was reasonable for such delicious chicken at $23 for 10 pieces and there were many other combo deals that seemed reasonable as well. There was no tip option which actually made me feel a little bit bad considering other takeout chicken places such as down low automatically put you on the spot to tip without even letting you see the machine to type in your own tipping option. The service was quick and the man serving us was very friendly and hospitable. When people say LA Chicken is the best chicken around, well, I couldn't agree more.

Fried Chicken: mmm..mmm! ($2.75 per piece)

=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE It's so subjective! This reviewer prefers the the taste of Popeyes/Church's - but by all means, the chicken here at LA should meet the needs of many taste buds in Richmond :) === 2. FOOD In exploring the fried chicken scene in Richmond: - Popeyes has a light coating of batter, is relatively light on pepper/spice, and has marinated meat where you can taste the saline/salt. - Church's is like that of Popeyes - lighter batter, lighter on spice, but the meat itself is less marinated that what Popeyes offers. - LA would be like a mix between Popeyes and KFC - it has more pepper/spices than Popeyes with thicker batter, but smaller thighs and drumsticks. - KFC would be best for those who like a fuller set of pepper/spices, thick batter, and usually flavorful meat. === 3. SERVICE Service was reasonable and good for what is really takeout. === 4. ENVIRONMENT It's a takeout joint, considered new perhaps in the early 90's. But it's clean enough and wheelchairs and baby strollers will fit when placing orders. The parking lot for the complex outside is on the small side, but street parking is available when the lot is full!

Certainly a local favourite, there was already a short lineup despite coming right at opening pretty much. Known for their fried chicken, I ended up getting the 2 piece snack and I certainly did not have to wait long. Comparing it to other fried chicken places, I didn't think it was anything too special but wouldn't mind getting it again if I was in the neighborhood.

Best fried chicken ! Only get spicy! Batter is extra crispy! And its not spicy at all for those who cannot eat spicy at all Original is bland and soggy!

Crunchy, spicy chicken in the back. Original in the front. Spicy is where it is at!

We did a mukbang for my brother's birthday. We got fried chicken from KFC, Churches, Popeyes, and LA chicken. Let me tell ya...LA Chicken is still the best tasting chicken. The crunch and juiciness and flavour surpasses that of all the other chicken. I don't eat it so often because my stomach gets heavy and not so happy in the morning when I eat too much of it. An easy solution would be not to eat a lot of it...but once you start crunchin', it's hard to stop :) 4 stars tho coz the fries sucked and the gravy gets to thick. Skip the fries.

Spicy chicken, which was not spicy at all, in a tin pan covered in tin foil.

Finally tried this place. I've heard that it is a sister company to Lee's Chicken (now known as John's Chicken) in Port Coquitlam. I grew up in PoCo, right near Lee's Chicken and I've eaten there most of my life, so I'll compare LA with Lee's and Church's. LA Chicken is close but not quite the same as Lee's Chicken. The batter, the way they brine the chicken and fry it is the same. The biggest thing missing was the spicy in their "Spicy Chicken." It was not spicy at all. Not even spicier than black pepper. The best thing about Lee's Chicken was that their spicy was such a savoury spicy, unlike Church's Chicken, which is just heat spice, but no flavor. I was a little disappointed in that for LA Chicken, but the rest is really good. The batter is on the crunchy side (Church's Chicken has less battery, which makes it crispier than crunch, so depends on what texture you like). The meat is brined well and it retains its juice very well. For takeout, they place the chicken in an aluminum pan with foil on top, which is different than other fried chicken places where they use a paper box. This made the chicken soggy faster. I'd recommend you take off the foil to let it breathe and maintain its crunchiness. Price is very good. $23 for 12 pieces, whereas Church's Chicken is now I think $28 for only 12 pieces. I received a flyer along with my purchase for their Christmas deal which says "offer expires Dec 31 2019" with no start date; however, I didn't get the deal today, so I am not sure when it starts... maybe on Christmas Day? The deal is pretty good: $18 for 10, $20 for 12, $23 for 15, $28 for 20.

LA Chicken is my favourite fried chicken joint in the lower mainland! They're a family owned restaurant and they make the best fried chicken! Something about their seasoning makes the chicken so delicious. The chicken was crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked tendered meat on the inside. Also, the way they make their chicken isn't heavy or oily at all. They're gravy is a must get as well. It's not too salty and the consistency is perfect; however, sometimes it can be on the thicker side. They can be very busy during rush hours and they usually only have 1-2 people working. You can try giving them a call before the rush hour hits and reserve your pick-up time slot. No guarantees on this as they only occasionally answer their phone, but it's worth the shot if you don't like waiting in line! PRICE|$$ 。$23.00 10 PCs 。$3.79 Medium Gravy

Ghetto chicken joint! Sometimes one has to go 'ol skool' for a meal! Frank from - House of Cards - would be proud!!! Yikes!!!

I'm not gonna lie! Pure ghetto chicken heaven! I got a 4 piece Spicy Chicken & it was not spicy. I could not complain though as the chicken was so juicy & delicious! Fries & gravy = I have to get to the gym ASAP!!! This joint is absolutely nothing special! Don't come here expecting an 'experience' or the finest of anything!!! Stay away if you're the 'snotty silver spoon in mouth' type of person! And if you're a whinner about everything in life - avoid this place altogether!!! You will bit*h like there's no tomorrow!!! This joint takes the Class - out of Classy!!! Mr Gordon Ramsay if you're reading this - please pull up right outside with your Hell on Wheels truck ..... please!?! This is an out of the way location in Richmond & I just happened to be passing by & needed dinner - so my mind said why not! LA Chicken has absolutely zero to do with the City of Angels - so if you're thinking your about to have a taste of LA, you're not!!! You will however, be getting straight up soul ghetto chicken - pure & simple no beating around the bush!!! I asked the owner at the counter for recommendations as this was my first time here, (ie combo 1 or 2 etc) & you know his response ... chicken!!! So I got chicken & left!

I can tell the difference between LA Chicken, Church's and Popeyes (KFC, nope). LA Chicken Original is mild tasting, LA Chicken Spicy has great flavour. LA Chicken has a great flakey crust that has a good crumble and a good crunch (thinking a mixture of potato starch and baking powder added in the dry mix). It does have a very tasty msg taste which I love. Fries were passable, coleslaw was dress right and gravy was better than KFC's and more flavorful than Church's... Honestly; Clubhouse Instant Brown sauce is better texture and flavour with a dash of fish sauce. LA Chicken leaves me super thirsty for the following 16 hours along with the wait for the chicken and limited business hours and it's a bit of a drive for me.... l love Church's Chicken.

Outdoor seating on a nice day so nice, indoor seating is a bit loud and kind of crowded, the patio seating is nice mix of both worlds. We sat on the covered patio and had a good time (a bit spider webby though). We ordered the wings, a cornbread (it's a muffin), the milltown burger and the moroccan lamb burger. The wings, in the hot flavor. Typical hot wings with buffalo sauce. Not spicy, very vinegary and pungent. Nice size, very crispy. Fair price for the amount you get. Really good overall. Cornbread (muffin). Really good. Kind of an odd thing to have as an appetizer, but so good actually with the sweetened butter, both were so good. Milltown burger. Not sure if we ordered it correctly but it's just a very plain burger no condiments or cheese (not sure if these were options, we didn't ask and weren't asked). Cooked very nicely. Otherwise a pretty run of the mill burger. Fries and tartar sauce were really good. The Moroccan lamb burger, nicely cooked, heavy on the sumac a little greasy. Not tons of lamb flavor. Not bad at all. The halloumi didn't have much of a taste maybe it was me? Who knows but it paired nicely with the beet and arugula salad. The salad was very very good. Price wise, very fair I feel, 67 usd 93 CAD for 2 apps and 2 entrees? Staff were very accommodating as well even with a very full restaurant. Nice people nice experience. Would recommend if you have the patience to travel to the location.
