Was at this A&W on February 25th, and I got so sick after eating here. There's obviously some type of cleanliness problem with this place. Too bad, cuz its so close to my house! Not worth it. I love A&W, but I'll never eat at this location again. read more

Hubby was in "burger fixation mode" late the other night and we had to pick up our kid in this area, so when we saw the illuminated A & W sign from a block away, it was like like a sign from above. The parking lot is as big as a postage stamp (okay, so I exaggerate a bit. But it really IS quite tiny), and since there are other restaurants here (one is a hopping sushi place that was jam-packed at 9pm! And there's a Subway and a pho place, too), We were lucky, there was one tight spot available. This was at 9pm! Just so you guys know.... This A & W site has the same menu as other A & W's, so I'm not going to compare the food to others here; it's the same. You either love it or you don't. I will say this: the restaurant is clean, it's well laid-out, it's open fairly late ('til 11pm), and what I like best: the employees who work here are exceptionally nice (and efficient and quick, too. I came here in the morning, after noticing this new location pop up, and in need of some much needed breakfast after a crazy Yelp party the day after! I wondered how this A&W was going to look, after seeing the new downtown locations, and I can say they have seemed to follow suit on the design. It is very, new age, is probably the word I'm going to use. It's welcoming, probably because when I was here, I was the only person in the place, but I did notice the big menu boards, so no squinting of the eyes, and also while sitting down, I noticed they have the self-checkout option at this location too! I had coupons, and got there breakfast sandwich's, and I was about to leave, but decided to just sit around and enjoy their food. They have everything in order here, no mess, the newspapers are nicely stacked, with the newest ones in front, the music was played at a comfortable level. There is no drive through, and it's located right at 49th and Oak Street, where you can park your car in the plaza. I don't think many people know about this location yet, but if your like their food, and you want to stay away from Oakridge, come in here, it's nice. read more

Wow, A&W has done a really good job rebranding themselves. Especially at this location. Parking is available in the strip mall out front. They weren't doing so hot when they pushed their "1950s" theme. It's simply too irrelevant to all but the baby boomers. Now it looks like they've polished their image in a funky retro way. If I were to use a car analogy, the PT Cruiser and Chevy HHR come to mind. And it works. It no longer looks like dingy or beaten up, but nice and shiny. The place is covered in neat (fake) vintage posters, with a "pipes" theme in the dining area. One curious feature that my buddy and I always wanted to try was the self-ordering kiosk. We weren't sure how well it would work. But the menus were straightforward, and we got our order placed after a short learning curve. A couple of minutes later, and our food was ready. While we only had the fries today, the kitchen did look cleaner and more bright than other locations. I will also say that the fries were also pleasant crispy. Great to see this one open in the past year in this posh side of Vancouver, no need to drive to Marine Drive's galore of fast food w/ Mcdonalds & Wendy's. 2 mozza burgers for $7 is a steal here, or a hot pho next door for the same price. Just depends on your mood. But do find their floats have either lost their allure, or just prefer a real milkshake. Like the modern look, with the heavy emphasis on the orange theme, good marketing. free wifi, another star. But parking does suck here in its tiny lot, so 49th Ave. is the way to go, just watch out for those cars flying down. read more

I've been anticipating this location ever since I first saw the construction signs last year. It is surprisingly clean and modern, with nice little touches like wire-baskets to hold french fries. Fast and friendly service and free wifi (if you can get your iPhone to stay connected). My Mozza burgers (yes, in the plural... hey, there was a 2 for $6 deal) were expertly wrapped with one end open. The buns were perfectly toasted on the inside and not the least bit squished or soggy (as they are at Five Guys or Burger King). Tasty stuff. read more

I love a&w, and this location is no exception. Cast off are the days that a&w looks like 60s dinners, this one features the new modern look that feels refreshing and not awkward to sit in. For this location, parking might be scarce as this parking lot is small and dependent on when you go. Like all a&w, they accept major forms of plastic and cash. I love this a&w because everything is fresh; fries, burgers, shakes, etc. you name it. I have high praise for a&w fries because everywhere i go, theyre always fresh from the fryer. Burgers aswell, you can see the patty grilled in the back. A&w has also step towards a very environment friendly by changing the burger wrapping from the foil pack to a parchment paper pack. I find this location very convenient for travelers going up and down oak, and for school kids around the neighbourhood. Great job a&w, keep up the good work. read more

The workers here are very friendly and efficient. Every time I go I'm always in a hurry and they always get me my meal super quickly. The place is clean and has a nice little siting area. The parking lot is small but people move out pretty quickly and that's hardly their fault. read more

Yesterday was the last day their popular coupons can be used, so naturally people went in droves, overwhelming the small location. A patron took my order instead of his own and realized the mistake only after he's rummaged through the bag. Such a mishap could have easily been prevented if staff had asked for a name during ordering, which the Marine Gateway location does. Learn from your own, people! read more

Went out to grab a burger and fries on Saturday July 11th. I am not going to discuss the food because that wasn't the issue. The food safety was certainly not up to standard. Three girls there that I could see, one without a mask, no gloves. The girl who took the burger off the grill an put it on the burger bun did so touching the bun with her bare hands. She put her hands in the bag to get out a bun and then proceeded to open it up with her bare fingers and then put the additions on. The girl who gave me the soft drink, had her ungloved hand around the lip of my cup. There were about 5 orders to be picked up and when I think of the girls taking the buns out of the bag and opening them up with no protection, I can't help but think if that girl had a virus and touched 5 or 6 orders and those were delivered to families and after eating the burgers were infected with the virus. Where are the managers and safety checks. An accident waiting to happen. read more
