I was there for the tacos and tried the tinga, asada, and fish tacos. the tacos were pretty good. chicken was moist, however I didn't enjoy the flavor of the carne asada. seemed about to citrusy to me. The person I dined with ordered the birria enchiladas and I Found them to be delish. even better than the tacos collectively. place was clean, and intimately lit (dark). We stopped in here with friends when visiting Phoenix and enjoyed some great margaritas and drinks and tacos. We had checked out yelp and google reviews near our hotel to find the perfect spot for evening drinks and snacks and this place had such great reviews we couldn't turn it down. It's an intimate spot with some patio dining that was lovely with the warm phoenix night and open windows. The restaurant itself is quite small so we were happy we made reservations and were seated as soon as we arrived. The prickly pear and chipotle margaritas were definitely drink highlights. Most of the tacos were gluten free thanks to corn tortillas and I had the shrimp and steak asada with the shrimp definitely being my favorite. We also got some chips and guac and the guacamole was great but the chips weren't the best. Overall it was a nice experience and we would definitely go back. We are in town visiting for our baby moon and we wanted somewhere close to our hotel to have dinner and this place didn't disappoint! The chips and salsa were some of the best I have ever had. My husband and I split the birria enchiladas and the chopped salad, both were delicious! Tbh, the salad wasn't overly chopped, but that didn't take away from the overall dish. I've been three times now. They are always crazy busy so it does affect service a tad. But they handle it great. They work like a machine. The food is fantastic. I usually order huevos a la Mexicana. It is top notch. The vibe is fantastic. I love this downtown area around Monroe. The San Carlos hotel has a cool historic vibe and dt phx has that brunch-eating hipster vibe. The online waitlist never works. But if you talk to the host/manager they will take care of you. I go alone so I get a seat at the bar fairly quickly usually. The manager calls me "Hermano" and just seems very sincere and professional. The bartenders remember me even after a couple visits and are very friendly and on top of their jobs. I appreciate the personal service and warmth. The food is the best high-end-ish Mexican food within walking distance downtown that I have found. I will be a regular here at Centrico for sure. read more

4.5 overall for this tasty little trendy place. The food is really delicious! They don't serve huge portions but you will probably get your fill. I ordered the chorizo burrito which was tasty & my girlfriend ordered the taco plate. Both of us were very pleased with our entree's. You can see the owner takes pride in this little place. There's a lot of upscale Mexican in the neighborhood and this place although small still warrants a visit. This is a perfect place to stop in for a tasty lunch. Every item of food was well thought out, made with pride, and crafted to be delicious. It's hard to explain but it tastes authentic... but with an oompf of "I'm better than you other tacos" attitude. The queso is like fondu and so good! We got the shrimp and asada tacos. Both phenomenal. The shrimp was my favorite. I would recommend getting both. One taco is actually 4 and will fill you up. The food is AMAZING! I am Mexican/American and their dishes are so flavorful and reminiscent of my grandparent's cooking I grew up on. The pozole and the chile verde are my go-to items on the regular menu but really, everything is delicious! I can't rave enough about the Chilaquiles on the brunch menu also. The jamaica and watermelon margaritas are unreal. Not too sweet, which I love. The owners are often there and are truly such great and welcoming people. I was in town for the weekend and heard about this place from family. I'm glad my girlfriend and I made time to check it out because the food was wonderful! It's a small spot but it has a nice atmosphere despite that. We started with their guacamole which was a nice appetizer before getting into the main dishes. The gf had birria enchiladas and I had the fish tacos. She said she enjoyed her dish, and I felt the same about my tacos. I liked that although they were beer-battered they weren't too fried like other places might serve them. As in I tasted more fish in each bite versus tasting too much of the beer-battered breading. Was in Phoenix for work this week and got the recommendation to go here by our concierge at the hotel. She said the chef's father or something runs one of the top five Mexican restaurants in the state. Everything was good. Everything. We started with chips and salsa and I could've had a whole meal worth of the salsa. It was incredible, a little kick but like finely minced ingredients rather than super liquidy or the like. The drinks were great too. I had some dos hermanos which was mezcal and bitters and it was so tasty. My colleague said the frozen margarita he had was one of the best he's had. I go the carne asada tacos which were excellent. I'm not sure they needed the guac on them, but that's probably my taste. Taco shells were small but kinda thicker flour tortillas as you got 4 tacos to the order. The steak was excellent, awesome char to it, great flavor, well spiced and a little more of the salsa made for an excellent and surprisingly filling dinner. Would 100% go back. Only downside is that it's small so no group larger than 6 and they only have 1 table for 6 people. Best if you're going with 4 or fewer people. read more

Sometimes the best places are the ones you didn't even know you were looking for! I was walking around downtown Phoenix at night when the beautiful colors of the Hotel San Carlos attracted me. As I got closer, I saw a bustling restaurant now known to me as Centrico. There were other guests waiting for tables in the lobby so I almost didn't go in, but they use Yelp Waitlist which is always a plus! Luckily, it didn't take too long to get seated (and on the patio, no less! Score!) even though I was a walk-in (next time I will get on the Waitlist before I arrive). I'd already had dinner, so I stuck with cocktails and chips and salsa. I personally didn't find the salsa as spicy as I would have liked so when the guest at the table next to mine requested something stronger, I did too. Boy, that packed a punch! It was HOT. Ask and ye shall receive. Their signature San Carlos Margarita is pretty perfect as is the Paloma made with Mezcal. The menu is comprised of Mexican dishes that have a modern twist on them. The tacos and enchiladas sound incredible. And in the spirit of having something for everyone, they even have a bacon cheeseburger on the menu. Go figure! What sets Centrico apart is the fact that you are sitting in Phoenix's only historic hotel and at night it has such a cool vibe. After a Phoenix Suns game, downtown is hopping and the small space here is perfect for people watching. Even though they were packed, the servers were on top of it and regularly made the rounds to see if you wanted another drink or to order. Many Yelpers mentioned seeing the owner also engaging and checking in on tables and I experienced that as well. All in all, a very different vibe here than what you get in other parts of Phoenix. Accessible and stylish without being uppity. Another sign of that was the other guests. I had multiple conversations with the tables around me and even got some tips on nearby places to try. I think for my next visit I will come for brunch. They have an omelet that sounds great and I would like to get a temperature check of the daytime experience. Great little place inside the hotel so a bit off the beaten path and that is kind of a plus. Margaritas were made with fresh ingredients not some mix and had option to go mezcal if you prefer that. Guac was almost as good as my wife's at home and portion was generous. Shrimp empanada was really good and we had fish tacos that were cooked just right and fixins were fresh and not overwhelming. Hands down best Chloe verde I've ever had! Now that I have your attention.... Service was amazing I sat outside at 1:00 PM I ordered the Chile verde and a small guacamole side. The owner delivered my food described it to me and was so proud of the ingredients and the fact that everything is made from scratch DAILY! You can definitely taste the love in the food! Everything was cooked perfectly the pork fell apart in my mouth the guacamole was so fresh the peppers inside were crisp. I don't live in Phoenix but when I go back for work this is where I plan to eat... already telling the other flight attendants about my amazing experience! I love that there is a waitlist on yelp. Only problem is that I didn't need it. See in Portland you need a waitlist for even a mediocre chain restaurant for weekend brunch in the suburbs. I kept looking at it in disbelief there was no wait. It is in the financial district so I get why weekends are a little slow. Start with some fresh guac made table side. It was delicious and fresh. Not shy about the raw jalapeños either. But hey this is thee southwest I got the posole. What a treat. Such a fun mix of flavors both fresh and hearty. I would recommend on the weekend if they have it. My cousin gave me one of her fish tacos. They are cute but plentiful. Loaded with flavor but I think they need a little help in the texture department. A couple of the dishes had tortillas which I don't think were hand made. It would be a nice touch. Attentive service. Unbelievably delicious!!!! Everything we ordered - from the queso fundido to the fish and shrimp tacos - was amazing. The queso melts in your mouth but also doesn't feel super heavy. The tacos were delicious and so authentic. The margarita was unreal as well. The owner, Edson, is so passionate about his food and took the time to explain all the dishes in detail as well as how to eat. 5.10.20: Muy delicioso! We ordered food to go so we could picnic at Civic Space Park. Guacamole Al Momento had a kick with jalapenos. Guac also has tomatoes in it, which I point out b/c not everyone likes them in their guac. Huge serving of chips come with it. We shared Tacos de Asado with tender meat and drizzled with chipotle sauce. I am not a fan of that particular flavor b/c it's smokiness overpowers all the other flavors. Next time I'd ask for chipotle to be on the side: my friend loves it but I don't. Hard to believe I'm reviewing yet another great taco destination in Phoenix but we are lucky to have so many. What a cool and fun restaurant in downtown Phoenix. This restaurant came highly recommend by local family and friends in Phx. I loved the fun atmosphere and relaxed service. I never was able to get the bathroom card to work for the hotel bathroom so that was a little disappointing that I couldnt wash my hands but I also could have asked for help. The location as right at the downtown light rail stop so another score. My burria enchilada were so amazing ! My boyfriend got tacos and really enjoyed them also but the side of guacamole was a great value and Im glad we got it ! Great guac and cocktails.
