Blackie's has the most extensive and delicious gluten free menu I have seen anywhere. The food was delicious and our waitress was very attentive. My only complaint is that the service upstairs while we waited for our table was extremely slow as in a 20 minute wait for a drink. Overall, the place is great. It's a unique atmosphere for the area and I will definitely be back. read more

We've never been disappointed in their food. The puled pork nachos are the best I've ever had. Staff is attentive and friendly. I love this place! read more

I love coming to Blackie's! If I'm ever heading up 295 and I have an hour to kill, I'll always stop here for lunch. I've never left here disappointed. I am a sucker for their burgers and hand cut fries. They also have a great selection of beer. read more

My new favorite place! Great atmosphere, excellent food, service a bit spotty but other than that my #1.

On Friday as I left the line was out the door. But they did not rush us out at all witch was nice. If u r by this place I say stop in. They do have a good beer list too always a plus read more

Yum! Best drinks, best apps, best salads, best burgers, best desserts! This is my favorite restaurant in Rhode Island!

Massive burger, very tasty and well made, good beer. Pricey for a burger, but you get a lot for the money. Service was a touch slow, but not enough to be any major inconvenience. Good luck getting a seat or a table. read more

Only four stars because of waitresses/ waiters they need to have as much passion as the chef there is an imbalance there other than that This place has unbelievable , FRESH dishes that are great ! When coming out of the kitchen I noticed everyone turning around to look at what meal would come out next . Service was a little slow for response time but the food is the mouthwatering and so fresh . If you don't eat here your missing out read more

I love how they can take an ordinary grilled cheese and turn it into one of the best sandwiches ever!! The "Orchard" had Brie and white Vermont cheddar cheese, apple butter, prosciutto, and arugula!!!! My boyfriend and father had a Reuben sandwich which was made with cubed corned beef. They both loved it!! The restaurant itself is clean and decorated in a sage green color. There is a patio section which is opened during warmer weather. read more

Nice atmosphere, different from your day to day pubs. Interesting food on menu. Service was fast and hostess was smiling and very nice. I will be back. read more

Excellent food, but the acoustics are horrible.....so loud. I won't be returning because of the volume. The night we ate there the television had on a blood bath fighting program on.....we HAD to ask our waitress to turn the channel.....seriously common sense, we are eating. read more

Every dish I've tried has been amazing. Everyone I've gone with agrees. The miso spaghetti is out of this world delicious. No matter what you order, you can't go wrong. Good customer service. Relaxed and quiet seating on the second floor. Worth the wait! read more

Blackies never cease to amaze me. They're always revamping their menu with unbelievable seasonal creations. I've never had a bad experience. They made the whole 30 pleasurable for me with their extensive paleo menu. The staff is very professional and friendly, if you find yourself in the bar area I've had the pleasure of having exceptional service by Tori and Raelynn whose recommendations are definitely trustworthy! Can't wait till my next visit! read more

The Junkyard Nachos are to die for! I go to school nearby and this is my favorite place to grab lunch/dinner. They are always updating the menu, so there are always new and exciting dishes to try. I highly recommend! read more

Jeanine was awesome! My app did not update for the wait but she took care of our party of 4 in the bar section and had us seated very quickly. The food NEVER disappoints here! We started with the kegerator app, so good! The hot honey, hummus and carrot cake bites, delicious! I got the short rib ramen, soooo good! I will definitely be back to get it! My husband got the Purdy Gurdy sandwich and said it was the best sandwich he has ever had! He doesn't say things like that. I tried it and agree! Wow! We can't wait to go back! read more

Order anything...it will all be good. Call ahead though ...this gem ain't a secret! Huge beer list and they rock the food everytime.

This place is AMAZING. A menu that changes with the seasons, full of really inventive food made with quality ingredients. On top of that, they have a Paleo menu, which is great if you're looking for that, but ALSO great if you're doing Atkins or some other ketogenic diet. Between the roasted "buffalo" cauliflower and the spaghetti squash carbonara, we were able to go out to eat for amazing food and not worry about blowing our diets. If you haven't been, you're doing yourself a disservice. Just make sure to plan for a wait (or get the app to plan ahead) as there's almost always a wait list. read more

Recently, four colleagues and myself treated ourselves to lunch at Blackie's Tavern. Having dined there previoulsy, we expected to have a fabulous lunch. Unfortunately, this was so not the case as the three of us who ordered burgers became ill with profound gastric distress. The other two were quite fine. We contacted the establishment and were met with disdain and disbelief as to what had happened. In as much as they are opening a new restaurant, I urge extreme caution. read more

Food is great, all of it. American cuisine with a dash of individualism. You can tell someone there went to school for culinary, and it can be appreciated. I have brought many people here from out of town to experience the different twists on common foods. The only complaint from some, ever, is the price. The price ratio might not be acceptable for some, who expect a $30 meal to only be found in an place with a dress code. You have to give it a try and see if it's worth it to you. Don't go here if you're expecting it to be some Olive Garden style, all you can eat soup and salad shit for $9, because you'll end up giving it an unfair review. Price point is no reason to suggest this place is anything other than a solid 5 star establishment. read more

Great service and great food in a comfortable environment. This review is long overdue.

My wife and I went with friends, we wanted to try something new and Blackie's had a good reputation. We arrived shortly after 4 and was told it would be a 35 minute wait. After making our way to the bar our friends arrived. We ordered drinks and not to long after our table was ready. The atmosphere was good, clean and not too kitchy. The first problem we encountered is there is only one single stall men's and women's room so be prepared to wait. After we were seated our waitress took our drink order quickly, we found that the drink service was the best. She came back a little while later and took our appetizer order, we ordered the junkyard nachos, none of us were that impressed with them, the cheese tasted funny, as did the sour cream. I did like the pulled pork however. It took some time for the waitress to take our dinner order, our friends ordered the tuscan turkey burger. My wife ordered a cheeseburger and fries and I ordered the sticky rigs (rigatoni). I was not impressed with the sticky rigs and felt the sauce tasted like Chef Boyardee. My wife enjoyed her burger and fries.( I enjoyed her fries as well) Our friends were split one enjoyed his turkey and one did not. They both stated the burger was a little too spicy. We did not complain while we were there, although my wife mentioned to the waitress that one of our friends did not care for the turkey, and explained why. We were there for 3 hours and saw a couple tables seated after us leaving before us. The wait staff was VERY busy which may account for some of the wait we had between courses. Overall we decided as a group that we would NOT go back there agian. read more

On our third visit here, both my husband's and my food came out cold and I asked for it to be taken back. As it came back you could tell they heated it back up in the microwave. The meat was extremely tough and you could see the marks from the first bite taken before it was sent it back. No respect for their customers or food. Never going back again. I would not recommend. Expensive for generic cold pub food. read more

Good food, quick service for a late lunch, and the beer menu looked good too! Had a pulled pork sandwich but excited to go back and try the burgers because they all looked great. read more

Food is amazing!!! Service is pretty good. It's always packed so it's hard to go on weekends.

I've been here about 6 times. Food is always good and average cost. The staff very attentive and checked on us several times.

Always consistently good food. The owners are really nice and always keeping up with everything. Definitely recommend if your in Smithfield

Recently reopened after the pandemic. It seemed as if they forgot how to operate and still "working out the kinks" as the manager said. I should have know it was going to be a bad experience when I arrived at 3:30 and they were closed. Their on line site said they open at 11:30 am but when we walked up to the locked door a worker opened it to say they had a "malfunction" they opening was delayed until 4:00. Took a ride and came back at 4:30 to find it was over an hour wait. Luckily, there were plenty of seats at the bar. The second bad experience was ordering two margaritas. It cost $25 and came in a short glass that was slightly bigger than a rocks glass. It had more ice then liquid and the glasses wasn't even full! The bartender was short with the mixing and didn't have enough to fill the two glasses. Two to three sips and gone! We then ordered our meals, nothing fancy, a Reuben sandwich and mix plate. Food took forever to come out. After 30 minutes the bar tender said it should be out soon since customers around us was getting their food. 45-50 minutes later we were ready to leave without any food. You could tell the bartender was avoiding us because he didn't have an answer on what was taking so long. I had to ask the bar back person to get the bartender so we could pay for our drinks and leave. When he finally came over, the food also arrived. We decided to stay and eat since we waiting for a long time. Bad experience number three was the extremely late food, and not only late, but it also came out cold! We were not happy. When I asked if Angie, the owner was in the kitchen, the waitress said that she was expediting. For experienced restaurant owners, it was very disappointing and seemed like it was their first time running a place. However, I must say the manager did come over to apologize and removed the food from the bill. This shows good customer service. If she didn't do that that, it probably would have been my last time. But acknowledging it and trying to make it right left a good impression. Thank you. I will try it again and hopefully it will be like the "old" Blackies again. I hope they get it together and rethink their margarita glass choice and their prices. read more

Dark and distracting like a barnyard, one big open space, way too noisy for average conversation and way overpriced. More like a college rathskellar than a restaurant. read more

Dinning at Blackies Bulldog Tavern felt more like an illegal dog fight than a pleasant dinner with friends! After an unfriendly greeting and inaccurate quoted wait time, we were sat in a very loud and eclectic atmosphere. The menu was extensive, seemingly something for everyone. Our dining experience had its first taste of the Bullies of Blackies while reading the menu, the adult "kids" mac the meals description says a lot about this establishment demeanor stating "you literally tortured my life to make this happen, congrats to all you whiners out there" is how a food description reads. Why? What does that tell me about your macaroni dish other than you do NOT want to make it! I asked to substitute a sandwich bread, not an unusual request I felt until our server said "I'll ask the kitchen but they do not make substitutions" I wondered did the server even ask because the shortest thing I waited for was the answer "No substitutions" I tried to explain that the request was dietary in nature but it was a firm NO! The server informed me that the cook is the owner and she does not make changes in her kitchen. I would agree, no changes were made. As a matter of thought; why does she own a restaurant where she chooses to cook if she feels so "tortured" by the paying patrons requests? Do yourself and your digestion a favor ....go dine somewhere else! read more

Ordered a pasta dish, not sure of name but basic fettuccine, just fettuccine. I asked if I could get it with chicken and server, who was very nice said yes. The fettuccine was very oily with little flavor. My girlfriend sampled the dish and agreed it was very mediocre. When the bill came out the pasta was $15 and the additional chicken was $12. So the total cost of dish was $27 which greatly exceeds the cost of a pasta dish at the vast majority of the very best Italian restaurants on Federal Hill. It came with no side dishes or even bread or water. All served in a very common Bar environment. Don't think I will be back read more

Love this place. Awesome service, awesome gluten-free menu options, awesome staff, great bar atmosphere, fresh food cooked to order, always accommodating when I've asked for 'special' food preparation. Place is packed for lunch and dinner with families and with couples every day! The only problem is the one restroom for women and one for men...it can be a long, awkward wait when you're out on a first date, when you're kid has to tinkle, or when you're having drinks...women's restroom is in the bar. read more

Fabulous food and atmosphere...but, the hosts are rude and disorganized. They don't take reservations for less than 10, and don't do call ahead for more than 6. When we called to say we had a party of 9, she said the restaurant wasn't full so you can't call ahead. She took our phone number and promised to call us back, but never did. We arrive 15 minutes later to find the place jammed. There was now no chance of getting a table in less than an hour. Unless you don't mind hour long waits, avoid this place. This wasn't the first time we found the hosts to be lacking, but this was certainly the worst. Your food will only carry you so far. If you treat your guests like crap, people will stop coming. read more

Here is a copy of the email that I sent to Blackie's after going there on a Saturday night....I have been back since, and it of course didn't disappoint....I can't stop raving about this restaurant and the eclectic food there. I am so happy that this is so close to me. The first night we split the Asian Calamari and then I had the Apple Pie Burger...what a delight. The second time we split the BBQ Basil Calamari and I had the Nella (Cheese-ol-ogy) grilled cheese.... Dear Jeanine and Staff, I had the wonderful experience of eating at Blackie's on Saturday night (3/2) for the first time. I cannot stop raving about my experience; from the waitstaff, to the owner walking around helping everywhere, to the amazing FOOD!!!!! Awesome is the only word I can think of to describe my night there. I can't wait to try EVERYTHING on the menu...one delicious bite at a time. I just wanted to say thank you for making my experience a great one. I can't wait to go back.....oh wait...I'm going tonight! read more

I came here Monday night for the Bruins game. Ruth was my bartender and although she was busy, she was very attentive and entertaining! Crazy menu that changes seasonally. Loved the harvest pizza with spinach, squash, prosciutto and apple compote. Junkyard nachos are fantastic! It's a little out of the way from my usual providence hangouts.. but totally worth it for the atmosphere and menu... Their homemade sangrias are dynamite also... I usually sit at the bar because the bartender s are awesome, especially the one with the horror tattoo sleeve. She's quick and always makes my drinks perfect!! read more

I don't write reviews, BUT I had to go out of my way to share my visit at Blackies. from the minute I picked up the phone to call and make a res. Katarina was inviting and fresh, I don't even know where to start, this place was suggested to me by a good friend (he is a well respected chef) menu is out of control, we had pulled pork nachos (out of this world) t bone, salmon and my breakfast burger was stupid good. So i'm eating my burger that came with house made chips and a hostess comes over and says I have to try the sweet potato fries, two minutes later she brings them to the table, and OOOOO MY GOD the sauce made me lets just say very EXCITED...and come to find out she was not a hostess but the one of the owners...and the chef was always out and checking on tables and staff..don't you know it she is the other owner. THIS PLACE ISSSS the best thing to happen to little Rhody, Please do not take this the wrong was but you guys suckkkkkkk so GOOOOOD cant wait to good back tonight with wifey. :))))))))))))) read more
