Another Italian restaurant in RI with food that's like your grandma used to make. I got the veal francaise. Portion size was good and the fried outside was more wet than crispy, but I didn't mind it. The meat was thin and tender, but the dish could have used more flavor. $30 is pretty steep for this dish when other restaurants in Rhode Island are around $25. My mom got the chicken parm (without cheese). Again, the fried outside is a different style compared to the typical crispy, breadcrumb crust. For being pounded very thin, the chicken was super juicy. It was $19 which is pretty good. However, the atmosphere isn't pleasant. The tables are right on top you and it's very noisy inside. Because of this, it's a good place for takeout and I saw many people getting food to go. read more

Decided to give this place a whirl. Welp, we ordered take out. Upon arrival, no parking in the small front lot. Decided to park in a neighboring business right next door. So, I walked in the door with the "take out" sign above it which leads in to a bar area. First thoughts, what a dump! This place is severely dated and appears as if it hasn't been renovated since the maybe the early 90s. This includes the the booze and beer displayed on the bar which, no bartender was tending. Not one employee anywhere in sight for nearly 10min. There were 2 other patrons also waiting for someone... anyone! Finally someone pops out of the kitchen who offers no type of greeting just a "what's the name?" Several minutes later I was handed my order and headed home ready to enjoy dinner. Now, I been dying for mozzarella sticks for weeks! To my surprise the mozzarella sticks we ordered don't come with marinara apparently... what? Again, really been wanting some delicious cheesy sticks so who needs sauce, right? Whomp whomp they were awful. Tasted like dirty old fryer oil and the breading had an odd texture. I just got the Italian for my meal which was actually pretty good. My wife ordered the white clam pasta. Many of the shells were cracked and broken. She said it wasn't bad... until she ate a clam with a, um... unique not so mmm that's a good clam flavor. So we will see how that goes... This is definitely a one and done for me. read more

Been going to Sorrento for many years, have mostly had fantastic meals, and great take out... Wanting a quick sandwich Saturday night after a late lunch, I logged into their website & ordered online as I usually do. Pick up in 30... Never had an issue... Waited the requisite 20 minutes before heading out, got there at the 30 minute mark. Couldn't find our order in the system. Anywhere...name, number, order, nope. After checking the kitchen, the server came out and told me "I don't know what happened, it didn't come over this thing (pointing to some contraption in a dark recess) and nobody told me"...huh? She put the order in for me as I stood & waited almost 45 minutes to walk out with our 3 sandwiches, a burger, a meatball & an Italian grinder...only ONE of which needed to be cooked. I contacted Sorrento via their app Sunday morning, and was offered neither an apology nor a response. My husband is done with them. If we weren't tired, we'd have just gone elsewhere...but waiting nearly 90 minutes for 3 sandwiches is nuts. If you're ordering takeout, I suggest calling them or order in & wait,,,hopefully you won't be waiting 90 minutes! read more

Highly recommend this restaurant. We have been driving by this place for years and finally stopped for dinner tonight and it was delicious. I would give it 5 stars if it wasn't for the slow service. Our waitress was so very nice but it took so long for her to come to even take our drink order and she didn't come enough to check on us. The waitress did bring over fresh bread and I ordered some meatballs as an appetizer and I loved them and they were only $3.50. I also ordered a Caesar Salad which was tasty. For dinner I had a nice size Veal Parm which was truly delicious and my wife had an amazing amount of chicken with her meal; Chicken Francises. Definitely coming back. Next visit; 1/11/19 Amazing.... but sad that my wife & I had the exact things we had last time. I had the Meatball App & Csaser Salad to start off. The meatballs were so good I got two more with my Veal Parm which I think was the best I have ever had. Yes... best I ever had. Delicious!!! Only difference with my wife's Chicken Francises was not as much chicken as last time. Moving my rating to 5 stars. Delicious!! Worth the 50 minute drive. Revisited this place for the first time in years, and I gues I haven't been missing much. To begin with the service is terrible, we waited 20 minutes just for the waitress to come to the table, she took our drink order, my girlfriend ordered the Angry Orchard Rose beer, and she ended up bringing her wine instead....and took forever to bring back the correct drink Then she asked us if we wanted bread, but took forever to bring it, and it wasn't even that great She finally took our dinner order, my girlfriend ordered the beer battered fish and chips, which had absolutely no taste at all, batter was mushy and undercooked. Never been to Sorrento's. Walked in at noon when they opened on New Years Eve to inquire re a Prime Rib to go for later in the evening. John, the manager was very polite, cordial and was more than accommodating to answer all my questions. I later ordered a prime rib to pick up for New Year's eve . The steak was fantastic! The service was very good, and it seems like a very nice, peaceful atmosphere. We ( wife and I ) will return for sit down dinner. read more

Fantastic food! What a wonderful place. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. The food is fantastic. Traditional Authentic Italian cuisine. The escarole and bean appetizer was heaven. I especially loved the toasted Italian bread they served with it. The veal parmigiana was the best we've ever had in RI. The veal Milanese was fantastic as well. I, being a vegan diner, was accommodated by the chef fully. I asked if they could prepare the tre mushroom appetizer over gnocchi pasta and the chef happily obliged. It was fantastic. I definitely overate and ended taking leftovers home to be enjoyed the next evening. As far as I'm concerned Sorrento's is the BEST Italian restaurant in RI. This place is a must try if your in RI. First time eating at this restaurant and boy am I glad we did! Staff was super friendly and accommodating. Very thankful they were able to accept a larger party so we could enjoy a stress free Easter dinner with our family. Food was absolutely delicious and the portions for the prices paid were spot on! I even took home leftovers for our lunches the following day. Bow tie with pink vodka sauce was super yummy! Chicken parm was delicious. I loved that the chicken was nicely thin and moist. Right amount of cheese and sauce. The only complaint we have is that the baked seafood casserole was wet at the bottom. But the taste and flavor of the dish was certainly there. Its Not the first time I've been hear. Went for dinner with some friends. Love this place. All the food is made from scratch. Nice lightly batter for the fish n chips, calamari was perfect. Their was a special for Good Friday. That fish was frigin awesome. The chicken Parmesan was delicious, the carrot cake was a big munchie killer! Absolutely fabulous! Clean, great atmosphere, good food and drinks..my favorite place to go. If I dropped any food in the dirt , I'd pick it up and still eat it! The food is that good! My New Favorite Local Restaurant Sorrento a small Italian American restaurant located in a strip mall off busy Smith St in North Providence. The signature of this place is the fresh bread and all dishes are made to order, no pre made food here. We have been frequenting lately with the Lenten season on Fridays. They always have fresh seafood specials and the baked fish, shrimp, and scallops were fantastic. The menu has all of the other Italian staples your looking for. Tip: Try the cannellini bean app, enough for a whole meal They have a small bar area with a TV if you like sitting at the bar and the staff is super friendly. They make you feel like a close friend even from the first time I visited. Overall: Fresh delicious scratch made food at a very good value. So north providence ri is one of those places that can boast about their Italian presence. Federal hill is a mile away and if you want Italian but don't want the excessive price, parking issues or pretentious frills then you absolutely need to get your butt to sorrento. From the outside it doesn't look like much - at the end of a strip mall on a busy thoroughfare, you may miss it. But go inside and find a spot that's dead middle of the Italian pizza joint down the street from your middle school and the high end upscale Italian you see in the north end of Boston. Legit ! There's something about sorrento that makes you feel like you entered mamas house but this time with a full bar! There is a quieter back room area but the main area by the bar and front windows is where you will likely be seated for a smaller group. Truly it's hard to find many items over $20 on the menu. And for insane portions you receive it feels like they typed out the prices wrong on the menu. Chicken Parmesan easily is 2 meals at very least for one person. That cannot be overstated enough! The tre funghi is my absolutely favorite as it's tossed in a pink sauce (my standby) and it's made fresh fresh fresh every time. If I had to skip something I'd say don't bother with a side salad or app salad - these are the most lackluster and yummy real estate wasting things when the main dishes are so huge. If even say try to avoid the bread for the same reasons. Good seafood options - really fresh and if you fancy a good cocktail this may be your place. Staff is also a delight. This place has gone down hill since before COVID hit so that's no excuse and we had been good patrons for many years thinking it will get better -- NOT ! VERY LAZY BUNCH there, never get the order correct, make sure to check your bag before leaving because we get home to find no mashed potatoes but a huge container gravy !!! Fish n chips have gotten skimpy and not fully cooked, no sides included, different people working there n never know what's going on if you ask a question. Very lazy young people there, the service is terrible and the menu used to be decent but I think they got a new cook or some other hack because the food is sub par. The prices jumped dramatically and yet the sandwiches n soup n meals are meazly. I'm really disappointed in this place. Get a new cook,get some well - mannered, hard- working, appreciative wait staff in there and change the menu to reflect the increase of food !!
