There's no restaurant quite like Tumblesalts. It's a wonderful adventure just going from room to room. The menu has something for everyone and it's all been delicious. Very rare to find Beef Wellington, but joyously there it was. I loved every bit. My friend had the scallops and enjoyed that as well. The chocolate peanut butter dessert and the pistachio cheesecake were top notch. Leah was a fantastic server! Very thoughtful. The owner dropped by to check in which was a nice touch. We to Tumblesalts for first time, had sunday lunch with my best friend. It was highly recommended by someone who lives in that neighborhood. It was not busy and we were shown different seating areas to choose from. There were a few tables taken in the dinning room but the pub area was empty so we sat there. Our waitress, i think who's name was Amara (or maybe Mara) was very attentive and friendly. The meals came out quickly and were great. My friend really loved the pear salad, said was the best salad she's had in a long time. I really loved my wings, 10 piece, and at a great price. The portions were great. I decided to return again for Providence Restaurant Weeks, this time with my husband. And for the price, the dinner package was rewarding to both the stomach and the wallet. We both started with the Stuffed Mushrooms and then got the French Onion soup. However, even though the soup was served to us both as rather lukewarm, they took it back and served us both a HOT bowl of soup, which hit the spot. For the main course, I had the Salmon Stuffed with Crabmeat while he tried the Gnocchi Bolognese. The salmon was really good; however, my partner found the whole concept of a 'house made bread bowl' for the gnocchi to be rather odd. My sister and I were looking for a quick bite before heading out to a comedy show-- stopped here last minute as we were passing by.. and we are SO happy we did. This place is not only so unique with its design/decor, they offer multiple restaurants/cafe/pubs all in one place ! The staff (host, bartender and our waitress) were all so friendly, quick, on top of things and personable. Very disappointed. Took forever for our order to come. Over 1 hr only to have a vegan burger arrive with blue cheese and bacon on it. No apologies. Took another 45 minutes to get what was ordered. By that time our girls night out was ruined and none of us could eat since our friend never got her meal/was forced to bring it home when it finally arrived. You all must know how wonderful a reheated veggie burger and bun is....and my friend was even asked "do you still want the fries with that?" No your customer would like no fries, no burger, no bun and charge her full price with zero apology!! Service was subpar. Finished our bread and drinks and couldn't get waitresses attention to get a second beverage/more bread. Hey our friend was starving and had nothing to eat after all! Manager also did not apologize or offer any compensation or otherwise. Customer service is severely lacking here. Too bad.....the decor and atmosphere is amazing!!!! Went here recently for a meeting because the location is super convenient.....been really wanting to love this place since it is so close but when I first went (years ago) they only poured me a half of a beer... This time was much better and the drinks were good! Will probably try the food again next time since it smelled delicious! There are so many rooms in this quirky building- it is kind of fun! I also love the historic cemetery that is right next to the building! Hey my fans. This restaurant located in Johnston was again my first time their. The place has 3 or places separate from each other. The interior is clean and well kept. We sat down right away and was greeted by the waitress Beth. I had her make me a Tito's and ginger beer to my liking. Fabulous and had a few of them! We ordered classic Calamari, a good size portion. Very good by the way. Then I had the filet medium rare with shrimp. The steak was spot on when I asked for medium rare. Beth would always come by and check on us. Definitely go back. We went at 530 and was a perfect time to go. The prices were reasonable. Oh and the bathrooms were immaculate! Nice! I'll be back to checkout more of this place! read more

This is the 2nd time that I have ordered takeout and the 2nd time they have messed up the order. I ordered a large salad and got a side salad. I ordered pepperoni on one half of the pizza and olives and mushrooms on the other half. They put the mushrooms and olives on the whole pizza. Clearly, they don't check it before they give it out. The only recourse on the pizza is to wait another 20 minutes while my other food gets cold. Also, the portions are small. I do not recommend. read more

This place doesn't know what it wants to be. This building was built for this restaurant and I don't know who did the floor plan but it is quite literally all over the place. There's no "front door" the staff is rude and inconsistent food is ridiculous. It's mineral spring nobody wants to pay these prices for mediocre American food. First, I want to say I love the ambiance here. The rooms have their own personality from the tavern, the cafe, the lounge, and the roof bar. They recently added a separate but connected business called the pizza station, and they're added a martini bar where the hopscotch room was. The service is decent here, although recently their phone was out of service, and I had to drive there to make a reservation because no one could reach anyone by phone. The food quality is okay. Salads are good, and portions are very good. Unfortunately, certain Italian entrees like lasagna were below average. I'm Italian and previously worked in my father's Italian restaurant and later had my own restaurant for a short time. So i definitely know how to cook. I think the lasagna could have had more ricotta cheese, and the beef should have been mixed with the sauce. Beyond the food, the drinks really need improvement. 14.00 mixed drinks like Pina colada and margaritas were ridiculous in price, especially not being top shelf for that price and not being made right. I really do try to give places a good chance and I've eaten at Tumblesalts maybe 7 or 8 times over the last few years. Unfortunately, I am giving up on them. Tumblesalts seems to put all their energy into the atmosphere and decor, which is charming. The food at Tumblesalts Cafe is decent when it's good, but nothing special to warrant its high prices. Ingredients and flavors of classic dishes seem nearly identical to less expensive restaurants in the area. The only things that distinguishes Tumblesalts from other eateries nearby is perhaps the ambiance... but some tables are really cramped, and chairs can be uncomfortable, and you will pay more for your meal there. Tumblesalts is also really uneven when comparing visit to visit. The inconsistency is frustrating, some meals the food is acceptable, even good, while others it's REALLY bad. You may get over-cooked, obviously microwaved chicken, some meals are overly salty, I've even been served moldy fruit. It's just all over the map. The service is also a gamble, folks are always initially smiles and friendly. But whether you dine in or take-out, if you complain about something, you can expect to be disappointed or downright mistreated. If things need to escalate to the manager, expect things to get worse, not better. I'm not talking about "Karen-esque" complaints, I mean, basic stuff, like waiting 60 minutes for your food, and it coming out cold, or getting your groups meals at separate times so one person is watching everyone they came with stare at their meals for 15 minutes waiting for the last person to get theirs. Or mentioning they forgot to bring a side dish after the meal is served, waiting for the side for the whole meal, asking them to just take the side off the bill, but having it brought out as everyone is at the end of the meal, (probably so they can charge you for it). If you think you can just bypass the restaurant staff, and order delivery, don't be surprised if you wait 30 minutes past the initial delivery time, call them to realize they obviously lost your order, but lying and saying "it's almost there," only to have it show up an hour later. Complain, and expect to be treated like you're a con-artist or mooch, not a repeat customer who always tips 20+% no matter how you are treated, or how bad the food it. Update my review and removing stars for just how inconvenient the restaurant has become. Delivery is only available after 5. Every little building is now considered a separate restaurant with a separate menu. Take out is not efficient. The food is so delicious I just wish the owner would focus in on the food and stop messing around. Become more accessible. read more

Disclaimer, I may just be spoiled by the great Italian food in New Jersey, but I wasn't super impressed by the food. Our server and the staff were super nice and helpful and the restaurant itself has a few different rooms which is cool. However, we were seated in the middle of a dining room and it was super quiet, and it felt like everyone around us could hear us talk even though we weren't loud. First off, I ordered a sprite, and it tasted like flat seltzer - super watered down, so I got a pepsi instead. My mom and I shared the East Bay pizza, which had tomato slices, fresh basil, burrata, and a special sauce. To be honest, it was good but tasted very basic to me. I added red pepper flakes which helped but I think I wanted the burrata to be fresh on the pizza and not cooked on it so I may just be picky. It was a generous portion for both my mom and I, so it was nice to have some leftovers. My dad ordered the lasagna which he finished half of because it was OK and he didn't take the rest home. My uncle got the jumbo shrimp which he enjoyed thoroughly and his girlfriend ordered another dish (I can't remember what it was). They are both from the area so it makes sense. What a wonderful place with a unique ambiance!! The outside is a bunch of small buildings connected by terraces and walkways. Plenty of outdoor dining, whether for a small or large party. The inside is equally as gorgeous, boasting elegant chandeliers and millwork. It seems they are also expanding to the restaurant and adding on. The menu is expansive with a wide selection of items, drinks and apps. Food is delicious, and staff super friendly! There is a parking lot, so no need to park on street! The exterior is perfectly gorgeous for al fresco dining on spring/summer nights. Even though it's a random Wednesday in April- the weather was perfect so- we called ahead to see if we could dine with our small dog; who is definitely less trouble than our 5 year old mini human- they said no problem so we decided to head down. Once we arrived we were NOT surprised to see another addition to this wild building. Having only eaten outdoors and in the main dining room- one or the staff informed us that the owner was building a take out room out of a trolley car and adding a "smoke house". They are constantly adding on to this gilding!! One thing about this place that I remember from the beginning is the AMAZING Staff. Every single time we have eaten in here the staff has gone ABOVE & beyond. I specifically remember that the last few times I've eaten here and today was NO DIFFERENT. I want to love this place 100%. The lunch and dinner and wait staff and eclectic array of dining rooms are all great. But I realize that I main go here is for brunch and this place just simply doesn't understand breakfast. Half of "brunch" is breakfast. And breakfast means eggs. They hate anything to do with eggs made to order here. So it can not seriously be considered for a brunch location. I have guests visiting every weekend and we WANT to come here! We can WALK here! But until they start taking eggs seriously, I cannot return. If they did brunch correctly, there would be a line down the street every weekend. Everything else is great. It's as confusing as everyone says it is to find the right entrances - however we were looking to sit at the bar so we saw the sign saying "Pub" so through the door we went! The pub is very small with only 6 chairs at the bar with some tables/chairs making up the rest of the room. My gf and I sat at the end of the bar and she kept getting bumped into as both patrons and servers kept walking past her. With it being this small, there wasn't any room for noise control - another group of patrons there were extremely loud and a bit obnoxious but there really wasn't any wiggle room. Once we settled in, we ordered the house calamari, fig and prosciutto flatbread and the eggplant rollatini. I was happy to see McKenzie's Cider on the menu as there aren't too many places I've gone to that serve this brand - so yay for me! Rollatini and calamari were good, flatbread good but didn't blow my mind and a bit overpriced for what you get. It was about $13 for a small serving. Rob and Kim were tending the bar and were extremely friendly so def a thumbs up. I want to come back and perhaps sit in a different room the next time and try proper meal options instead of just apps.
