Providence's own version of CHEERS. I've been here several times now and consider the Ivy Tavern to be the best bar in Providence. The customers are all super nice, unique, and interesting humans. Moreover, the staff of AAJJMO --- Alex, Allen, Josh, Julia, Mike, and Olivia --- are incredibly friendly, witty, and funny. The cocktails and food are also outstanding - I especially recommend the bimbap bowl, fish and chips, korean wings, and burger. You will also find the service to be top notch. The bartenders/servers gird up their loins and exhibit extreme hustle during peak hours, while still being able to charm you with a wink or a joke as they move from table to table. If you have not been to the Ivy in the past few years, I highly recommend it. Since Allen was hired as manager a few years ago, the place has become one of Providence's hidden gems. read more

Rating: 3.5 stars The food was good, but not worth the price. The burger didn't taste like anything special and the bun just tasted like it was pulled right from the store-bought bag. Similarly, the fries were definitely from a freezer bag of french fries and barely had salt or pepper. Basically it tasted like what you'd have at like a backyard cookout? TLDR: fine, but it shouldn't cost $18 + tip. For this price I expect a nice toasted bun & homemade fries & a bit more flavor. They also messed up my order which is not a big deal but the waiter came back to the table to confirm my order and when he repeated it back, he had the temperature and the cheese wrong. It was then brought to me with tomato but no lettuce-- I had asked for lettuce with no tomato. The waiter was nice though! read more

Haven't visited in six months, we always liked the neighborhood feel and eclectic menus. Today we ordered a few appetizers and beer. Unfortunately the wings were drys and overcooked, the cauliflower was greasy and way too much batter and the onion rings were over cooked. Maybe a bad night (I hope so) but come in these are easy items to cook or maybe a new line cook. We should've stuck to our usual the Ivy Burger which is fabulous. read more

I was visiting my cousin and this is where we went for the one dinner I had in town. Good food, beer, and service. It seemed liked there's some locals that fill up the bar. The bibibap is delicious and the best value on the menu. I wish I had split it. It's a good size and served in a beyond scalding hot calderon. My cousin wanted something light and enjoyed her Greek salad. Her partner liked his chicken sandwich. I felt bad for the bartender. He was a one man show. Somehow he did it all though. read more

Stopped by here for a takeout beach burger. There were three choices of cheese: American, swiss, and cheddar. Went with cheddar and I think my biggest complaint is that I ordered medium ... the burger came well done ... & I couldn't taste anything other than the cheddar! The fries were good and I was satisfied ... but maybe would try something else on the menu if I ever stop back by! The Ivy Tavern is a small go-to pub on Providence's East Side in the "Hope Street Village" that is completely nondescript from the outside but combines a laid back, friendly atmosphere with great service, excellent mixed drinks, a nice selection of draft and canned beers, and a small but excellent menu combining traditional pub food with a mix of Korean dishes, all cooked to order in the small kitchen behind the bar. The Bibimbap is wonderful - and a full meal at an extremely affordable price, the burgers are large and cooked to taste, bulgogi tacos are exceptional, and every other item I've tried on the menu has been great - in fact, I've never had a bad meal or a bad time here. There are three screens normally tuned to different shows or sporting events but not turned up to compete with one another for sound or to prevent easy conversations with friends or other patrons. The musical playlists chosen by the bartenders are always great and, again, are set at the right volume to encourage conversation and enjoyment rather than to dominate the space. The Ivy is the closest thing on the East Side to a true neighborhood pub in the British sense of easy comfort and gets it right without trying to be anything but itself. Parking is generally easy on Hope Street or one of the neighboring side streets and the Ivy's neighborhood setting offers plenty of options for shopping, especially at the AMAZING Stock Culinary Goods, next door. And if another type of food entices after drinks with friends at The Ivy there are equally excellent options within a short one block walk - from Vietnamese street food with a finely honed twist at Lotus Pepper to higher end Italian at Pizzico, next door, pizza and souvlaki at Hope Street Pizza, exceptional Asian-fusion cuisine at WaraWara, American Bistro offerings at KG Kitchen, or extremely inexpensive and enjoyable Cambodian and Thai dishes at Gourmet House. I've been going to the Ivy Tavern for years and it's still as good as day 1! The food is quality and they always get my order right. They have fun combinations of flavors and nice little twists on dishes. I've had the same waiter the past few times and he has been fantastic! The atmosphere is nice and cozy feeling. Can be a little loud, but you are visiting a small "pub" type place. So keep that in mind I would highly recommend checking this place out. read more

An awful dining experience across the board. We were regulars before the new owners took over and always had exceptional service and food. We have been a couple of times since the new owners took over that were not great, but decided to give it one more try in hopes it would be better. It was the worst of the 3x We ordered the garlic fries that for $11 was barely a side portion and hardly any garlic. We even asked the server if it was a generous portion and they said yes - it was not. It used to be a huge mound of fries loaded with fresh garlic for $7. The 2 alarm chicken sandwich was small, thin and chewy with barely any sauce. The Bimbap with bulgogi was inedible as the bulgogi had a burnt taste. We barely touched it and our server came over with the check not even asking if everything was okay nor offering a to go box for a meal that was barely touched. Came in here while I was waiting for my niece to finish her dance audition. The bartender was AMAZING. We had a party of six and he was more than accommodating. The space is tight but has that small tavern charm. Our table got a mixture of burgers and seafood. I had the fish and chips and the portion was so big I was able to split it with my husband. We also got a calamari that was DELICIOUS, as was the fish. I would come back here again in a heartbeat. Everyone who got a burger said they were great too. The burgers at Ivy Tavern are top quality. You can taste the freshness. The buns are perfectly paired with whatever you fill in-between. Their chipotle aioli is perfection. Dip your fries in it. Dip your burger in it. Just drench your entire order in it. When my husband and I got a takeout order, we complained about how we did not get a lot of fries. They were so apologetic & gave us a free order of fries without question. Quality service and quality food? Ivy Tavern is our new go-to burger spot. A local pub that has food with a Korean flare. I had the bibimbap for lunch. The dish was pretty tasty but honestly somewhat overpriced at $18 (prices on Yelp are incorrect). While the food was authentic, the gochujang sauce was strange with a watered down sweet flavor that didn't ring true. Service was extremely slow with a single person manning the bar and restaurant. It took so long to get seated in a half empty house that I wanted to walk out to a different venue but my wife wouldn't let me. She had a Bulgogi sandwich which she thought was reasonably flavorful for a sandwich but missed out on authenticity. Overall, not a terrible experience but a rather pricey meal for pub food. Next time, we'll keep walking to one of the better restaurants next door. read more

Ivy tavern has been consistently good since I started going in 2010. They make the best veggie burger (the accidental purist) in Providence (in my opinion) Everything is cooked to order, so if it's busy be patient they have a tiny kitchen. Also don't let the prices scare you, they are on par for the fresh ingredients/ portion sizes. One star off just because if you drive over there parking can suck, and since it is small sometimes it's hard to get a good seat. read more

Unfortunately the ownership has been making very poor decisions, including very recently bringing back a previous employee who is unpleasant and unprofessional. Never write reviews but popped in here on whim for a late lunch with my teenage son after doing errand in the area. He had the house burger and added a fried egg which was done to perfection and I had the fish tacos which were excellent and hit the spot! We both had side salads which were large, fresh and delicious. Our server though busy with bar customers was excellent! Quick, friendly and checked in with us regularly. I wish I got his name. He will know as I commented I loved his fun Tee shirt with a Polar bear eating a Popsicle which hit me funny since it was a 90 degree day! I will be back with my husband. For food we ended up getting the fish and chips which was quite bland. The chips were substituted with sweet potato fries which were terrible. The fish was quite large in size however. I also got an order of the buffalo wings which were great. We did try one of their canned beers which was a cider and it was good It was the one that was not angry orchard. Ambiance is nice for a sports bar. Bathroom is clean No complaints about the service. The guy at the bar was serving the tables as well and he was really doing the best he could. Parking is on the street and it is free. Overall if I was in the mood for wings I would come back. read more

10/5/19 My first time dining here! Let's start with the good! The calamari & onion rings for appetizers! They know how to do crispy! The calamari was crispy yet light, I prefer my calamari thinly sliced, but besides that very good! We asked for the pepper sauce on the side. The onion rings also very good! My entree was the fish tacos, I asked for no onions and jalapeños, the waitress Abby stated that it's a pico sauce I said fine bring me plain tacos with the chipotle sauce on the side! Tacos came out with the jalapeños (which I quickly removed)! The tacos were my least favorite thing, would not order again! The tacos came with like a handful of fries, the fries were good but definitely not enough! Now let's move on to the not good....our waitress Abby needs an attitude adjustment and a course on customer service! She's rude, and when your job is face to face customer service learn how to smile and provide excellent customer service! She took forever to check on us after our appetizers came out, like my friend's drink was almost empty! When my friend's salad came out no fork just a knife tucked inside! We had to repeatedly ask for extra napkins, like is there a napkin count because she was acting like she was paying for the napkins! Mind you when I asked the first time, I provided a visual with my fingers like I'm asking for a small stack. I do this purposely every time I ask for napkins for that exact reason. I shouldn't have to ask 3 times for extra napkins! Pleasantly surprised about this gastropub. They have unique foods that are not like other pub food. 1. Korean wings - 4/5. Kick of spicy with a flavorful sauce, these wings are great! You can also get the traditional buffalo wings but give this a try while you're here. 2. Sweet potato fries - 4/5. Crispy, different, big serving of fries! I'd do this over regular fries here anyday. 3. Bibimbap - 3.7/5. Good but not the best I've had. I was expecting lower but this was also a pleasant surprise and comes out in a hot stone pot which is good quality! Went there today and had the fish and chips. Wanted to give them another try..... Today, again, the food was just OK.... The fish was a large piece, crispy, not oily, but the batter tasted very bland. I had to add lots of pepper and tartar sauce to the pieces that I was eating. What an amazing find! Korean food, dive bar and great draft beers! You possibly cannot go wrong with that, even though I'm biased towards Korean food as such. :) Tucked away on hope street, it is a small unassuming bar with not much seating inside but is a perfect 'watering hole'. Even though I just got a simple cocktail, the mood and ambiance were perfect. 4 stars only because I didn't get to try any of the food, I'd already eaten before that. But I'm so def coming back to try it and just to relax and chill :) PS they also have 1$ oysters on Sunday! read more
