Western Stars, with top-notch musicians, was playing when I was there. There was no cover charge, but they did pass the hat. I love the fact that they have live music at 6PM on a Friday night. It's not surprising that it was a relatively older crowd, with some great dancers who were really fun to watch. Street parking only, which makes it a little difficult when there are piles of snow.

i'll be approaching the review in 2 parts , one as a patron and one as a performer …read more as a patron , I have attended many live music events , seeing many local bands perform . the sound there is excellent , you are able to hear every instrument with out any trouble . the drink prices are reasonable and the staff have always been courteous and welcoming . as a performer , I have played many live music nights as well as booked a few "big names " to play a show with . Kc's has always been welcoming and have a real interest in perpetuating the local music seen . they provide band a place to reach new fans and play for there existing ones as well . Kc's is not in it for just the money , they always have cared for bands and the scene in general . the cover prices charged to see 4 -5 bands is always reasonable . band are even offered the chance to make money if they can draw people to this venue . Bands are not charged to play like other places . they also have a large raised stage to fit many band members and there equipment . the sound technicians are there for the music and actually care about what you sound like , unlike many other venues .

So, I was understandably hesitant about a new bar moving into what was considered by many to be hallowed ground. Since I walk by it on my way home from work, I decided to stop in soon after it first opened to see what it was like. And now I am a regular and it's one of my favorite watering holes in the city. Super cool atmosphere, with tons of horror movie memorabilia on the walls. A couple of pinball machines ( including a brand new Evil Dead one which is really sweet), and neat liitle outback area for nicer days. They also occasionally have music and drag shows inside, and in the summer months cool shows outside in the parking lot next door. You can also grab a grilled cheese or a hot dog from Puggles Grilled Cheese most days of the week if you're feeling peckish. And my favorite thing... PICKLEBACKS.... !!!! All the drinks are cheap and they have a good selection of beers and ciders. Maybe most importantly, the owners Jeff and Courtney are absolutely lovely people who really understood keeping the locals vibe of the E & O era but also being it's own thing. Truly a cool foot in the door if it's someplace you are comfortable. On the nights with out shows it's a chill spot with great engaging staff. The issue I have is that the night we went they charged us a cover to see the last 15 minutes of the live music and the bar was open another and half after. The drinks too were not the best. Everything about a place like this is up my alley, but the News just fell short with drinks and service. We'd go back, but we're not going to seek out a visit to this venue. Thanks
