The building is pretty unassuming from the outside as it is located in a quiet part of town, though there is plenty to stare at as soon as you walk in the front door - the walls are covered with interesting trinkets from ship wheels and pirates to a 5-ft tiki sculpture in the corner. The outdoor patio is even more decked-out - much larger than I was expecting and fully-equipped with private tables and unique decor, including a coy pond and life-size statue of the ol' Cap'n himself. The best part of our time here was spent interacting with Michael - the man behind the bar. He was very friendly, engaging, and had plenty of great stories to tell. We felt very welcome the entire time and will definitely be stopping in again the next time we're in Providence!

Years ago, we wandered in for a cocktail & we have been telling people about the bar ever since. Nautical decor everywhere you look, a pool table, sports on the TVs & a cute outdoor space. For us, it is more of a beer & a shot or simple drink place, never once seen a frou-frou drink (but maybe that is because I am not looking for one). There's lots of history here, they opened its doors in 1941. One of the original businesses on the infamous Water Street area in beautiful Warren RI. Fish and Chips are on the specials menu, a chalkboard right next to the bar that also sported Prime Rib and Baked Cod on the night we visited. Little might not be the best description, it's a definitely a neighborhood place, tucked right into a residential area, houses all around, but the bar itself is a pretty grand affair. Its a big horseshoe shaped thing, something like 20-25 seats, and beyond it hightop tables for another 30+, then there's an expansive outside area, not so handy here in December, but its probably just the thing in nice weather. In years past, this use to be a very popular destination for a motorcycle ride. I imagine in nice weather it's likely to be the same. There is an absolutely huge parking lot. Anyway, the Fish & Chips were pretty great. Old School style, with a flour based batter, thin and crispy brown on the outside. The fish was nice, firm, piping hot and delicious. I also got an order of Clam Cakes, and though they aren't road trip worthy like an Aunt Carries, I didn't leave a single one left over. Not too shabby. One helpful hint. If you're going for dinner, have a look at the website to see if it's a live music night. On the night we visited, the band was rocking, and the show started early, so dinner that night definitely came with music.

It's a no-frills "dive" bar, a rather polished and friendly one. (Not that dive bars aren't friendly, but you know what I mean.) The night we were there, they were playing some swanky jazz (a bit Mad Men-ish), which was a great juxtaposition to the place - chalkboard list of bottles and cans, old timey arcade game, flittering AC, dimly lit pool table. The bartender was all smiles n' banter, and was super apologetic when I asked for a new glass of soda water (he'd given me tonic by accident). The whole vibe of this place is fun and friendly. What was intended to be a pit stop on a Saturday night became a great chunk of the evening. Definitely worth checking out!
