A nautical-themed bar on Ives St, Captain's Seaweeds is a fun little bar. It has some elements of a dive bar, but I wouldn't really call it that. While they do have a pool table and fairly cheap beer, imbibers are generally from around the neighborhood, not really the typical dive bar crowd. I mean, there was a group playing with Beyblades when we came. They don't serve food, but there are a couple good options nearby and they'll let you bring in takeout. They do have an outdoor area when the weather's nice, but during the winter the bar tends to get pretty crowded. Lots of nautical themed decorations, which help give it a unique character. All in all, a good option if you're coming for a few drinks and then heading home, but it's a little out of the way if you're trying to bar hop or don't live in the area.

This is my summer spot, once college starts I'm outta here. Not by choice, well kind of but you know what I mean. $7 pitchers of House lager.. that's a no brainier. I love the patio area, smoking and all. Staff is always great and fun to chat with.

This bar is QUIRKY. If you're on/near college hill and you're looking for a place to drop by, I wouldn't say that you shouldn't come here, but it definitely wouldn't be my first recommendation. This place draws an older crowd, but there's plenty of seating and the patio area is super nice for hanging with friends and enjoying a good drink or two.

I'm realizing now that these pirates mysteriously procured drinks for this photo... Not sure whose those were, haha!

Let me start off by saying that I will definitely be returning to this location in the future. Stopped in here with a bunch of friends on a bar hopping evening and truly wished I had more time to spend. Yes, this is a dive bar. Is that a bad thing? Absolutely not. Captain Seaweed (expertly depicted on the front door of this establishment) must have decorated this place with baubles, paintings, and tchotchkes acquired on his many treacherous adventures across the oceans of the world. Sharks toting human arms, ancient scrolls, oil painting of ships, tiki roofs, skeletal pirates, and curvaceous mermaids adorn the inner and outer walls of this bar. Well-lit, the explosion of nautical themed items combined with scattered seating provide for a quirky, interesting, but enjoyable experience. Although it was about 20 degrees outside, many of us went outside to explore and enjoy the open-air seating. We were surprised to find an outdoor heater and promptly turned it on as we huddled around it. I would be interested in relaxing out there during appropriate weather and utilize the seclusion it provides from the busy nature of Ives St. It interests me that there is a residential deck located just above all the action of the outdoor patio for this business. . . I can only imagine what its like to have a nautical/tropical themed backyard as a view. Drinks are ridiculously cheap here. . . offers of $1 Captain Seaweeds Lager and a $2 glasses of mysterious concoctions labeled "Comment" and "No Comment" are sure to go easy on the wallet. With friends who live in the area, this place is perfect to walk to and grab a beverage. Who cares about who makes up the crowd? We are all there to get a beer and maybe enjoy some time with friends.

    Check out the backyard!

Awesome Dive Bar! Looks the part of a Dive Bar from the outside then the immediate inside but pop out in the backyard and your in a Pirate Paradise! Amazing staff that will keep you entertained for sure!

    Good times!

Can I watch a football game here?

They do have one small TV at the bar that they occasionally will have a game on. But I wouldn't really recommend Captain Seaweeds to watch football games.

Entry is $10, or $35 annual memberships (start September every year). The prices of the cocktails are so reasonable and rare to see in Providence at $10 to $12. The beer offerings vary from cans or draft, with impressive offerings such as Bissell Brothers from Portland, Maine. As someone in their 30s, I do give warning this is more an undergrad/grad place so late hours are usually crowded with students (after 9pm). I usually drink there earlier in the evening as a pre game spot lol I will always recommend Grad Center Bar.

We visited around 8pm on a Saturday, and there was a line of about 15 people in the stairwell. We waited about 20 minutes to get in, with $5 entry fee per person. And it was well worth it all because - honestly, you just gotta experience it! It is a typical dive bar with affordable drinks, but it's not shitty drinks either! We got a green tea shot to get our night started - Jameson whiskey, peach schnapps, sour mix, sprite. Very refreshing and goes down pretty easily, can't even taste the alcohol but it's definitely there! Such a chill place to wind down and catch up with buddies! We were a party of three, but it could have been a party of six with all the food we ordered. We had the first reservation at 5 PM. We parked on the street, but you can park in the lot and they will validate your parking for you. The service was a 5/5 and the ambiance can be casual or fine dining. The lighting is perfect for a romantic night out and the view of the Providence River right over your shoulder. We made our own board: Umbriaco di Raboso "Drunken Cow" - amazing cheese, very high quality, sharp, not over powering. Definitely get it! Provolone - sharp very good quality provolone cheese Proscuitto di San Daniele - sliced very thin, soft and flavorful. I was very pleased with the portion size and the flavor. A must have! Spicy Olives - assorted olives with a spicy olive oil. All of the olives were fantastic and there definitely was a good kick from the spice. They threw in the pickles, jams, nuts and honey, all were fantastic. I really liked the blueberry jam. The warm tapas came out at all different times. Fried Bolognese olives - Although these were unique and delicious, I would skip these next time. The Bolognese is just a pinch on the inside of the olive. It would be a game changer if there was a side of Bolognese sauce to dip them in instead. Eggplant - Definitely a must order. Super simple sauce packed with flavor and the buffalo mozzarella is to die for. The pork belly is also a must order. Tons of flavor and not a lot of fat, which surprised me. It was a good sized portion too. Now of the the pizza...we ordered Pizza Salumi. Very thin dough, wood fired for the flavor and the crisp. There is a good amount of sauce, which can make the crust floppy, but it's so worth it! The flavor of the sauce is so good. All fresh and top quality ingredients. The soppressata was perfect, taking this pizza to the next the level. It was cut super thin, as it should, and gave the pizza the flavor a margarita is missing. It would be tough not to order this next time. So just as we should have been walking out of the door because we were so full, we had the duck and the wood fired NY strip to split among the three of us. The duck - The duck dish came with the two legs so it was the dark meat with crispy skin. The duck was flavorful, moist, tender, and had some sort of apple based sauce to accompany it. The mashed potatoes were great and the Gorgonzola chunks were a treat, especially while sipping the sangiovese/cab red wine blend that we ordered for the table. The NY Strip was my favorite. The steak was tender and came with the flavor from that wood fired grill. The sauce was so good that I dipped every piece in it, trying to reserve some for the mashed potatoes. I ordered the steak medium rare + and it came out just how I wanted it. We ordered the lemon tart for my mom's birthday dessert. I would skip the dessert next time, but I always skip dessert. My mother loved it...very fresh and vibrant. I would have to say that Bacaro is my favorite RI restaurant, especially for a special night out. It is also a perfect spot to go and grab a snack or two with friends after work with a drink. It is affordable as you want and can find high end alternatives as well. The bottle of wine was $48 and you couldn't have asked for a better pairing with all of the food. We also ordered an after dinner cocktail, called the Call to Italy...very refreshing for a digestive type cocktail.

Not the kind of place I really want to sit in and enjoy a cocktail. Dungeon like. The music is loud hip hop, not something I mind, but worth noting if thats not for you. I sat at the bar, and honestly didn't feel like it was super clean. I don't think the counter had been wiped down for a while. Staff were doing their best but seemed overwhelmed on a Saturday night. I was watching them make the cocktails and did not feel like it was very sanitary. They've got one small sink they're rinsing everything in, they were chucking stuff, literally chucking and slamming metal. They were dumping out people's drinks into the same side of the sink and then rinsing in the other side. But stuff was splashing into what should be the clean side. It's not a good setup for a cocktail bar. The cocktail menu had 8 drinks on it, 2 they were out of. Nothing had whiskey in it. I got a drink called Darjeeling something. Really didn't like it, didn't taste balanced and it looked different than someone else's who ordered the same thing, not sure if the bartender forgot an ingredient. The bartender also wasn't tasting the drinks which I usually see to ensure it was made correctly. This one had curry in it as a listed ingredient and it was just way too strong a flavor. It was a rum drink with some mezcal but it just tastes like mezcal and curry powder. The place was pretty busy but people were coming and going frequently. There's only one bathroom which really isn't enough for a bar. Seems like there's potential here but I didn't like the menu offerings and the sanitary concerns leave me with no desire to come back here.
