If you like burnt taste, this place is for you. The wine and charcuterie were absolutely fabulous, highly recommend. The NY strip tasted like charcoal. I cut the outside off and ate it because I never send my food back and hadn't eaten all day. That being said, we told them just to offer feedback and they said that's how they serve the food. I was surprised because they have decent reviews. We were so looking forward to dining here. Out of 5 dishes, 4 of them were really bad. 3 dishes were steak and completely burnt tasting, and one had swordfish that arrived as two thin slices, not even 1/2 inch. Swordfish should be thick. At $49 for a steak, it should be cooked properly and taste like a steak, not like the place it's cooked. So, go for the appetizers, skip the main course unless you like burnt taste, and some people do. read more

My wife and I are visiting from San Francisco and tried Bacaro tonight. Everything about the meal was perfect: the restaurant vibe was lively but not too loud, service was exactly right, friendly and great advice. The cichetti, our pastas, and the dessert couldn't have been better. I took Alana's (sp?) advice and chose the seasonal pappardelle with olive tapenade, pumpkin, and sweet potato. It was a very unusual combo, not what I expected, but very tasty! Ended with the fig upside down cake, and I thought we would end up eating the actual plate, it was so good. This was one of those meals where every single aspect was exactly right. It's often the case that you go to a restaurant and maybe the food is good but the service isn't. Or one course is really great but another is so-so. Or too loud. Or too cold. Or you don't drink alcohol but the place doesn't have a good NA beer. Everything was just right at Bacaro tonight. Great time trying Bacaro for Mother's Day a few weeks back! We started with the buffalo mozzarella with arugula salad and margarita pizza to start. Both were incredible and the pizza could be my favorite. It was light and crispy with great flavor. We got an assortment of pastas for dinner to try. The shrimp pasta and bolognese were great and fam favorites. The pink baked pasta was very blue cheese forward and not our favorite since it was pretty heavy. There are so many options to try on the menu that I'd try something else next time. For dessert, we split the chocolate torte and a mango passion fruit special. The mango passion fruit dessert was a fan favorite. It was a very busy day so service was a bit slow and it took us a while to order and receive food, but we'll try again on a day that isn't a holiday. I live outside Boston, but I grew up in Providence, and when a dear friend in RI invited me out to dinner in Providence for my birthday, she provided a "short list" of some excellent local Italian restaurants. Although I was familiar with most (if not all) of the places on the short list, I had been to Bacaro on several occasions right before Covid, and had always enjoyed the food, service and the general "comforting vibes" there, so that was my choice. I think we both agreed that it was a very fine choice, indeed. we were seated upstairs, facing the river. Nice. Although it is "Restaurant Week" in Providence, we opted to order off the regular menu, as the menu choices are quite conducive to sharing. After starting off with a couple of glasses (each!) of the Valpollicela, we split the Southern Italian charcuterie platter, which was delicious, with a wide assortment of small servings on the platter, from delicious truffled burrata to an eggplant melange, excellent cheeses, excellent Italia-style cornichons, very memorable and "meaty" green olives and homemade roasted red peppers (SO much better than the jarred ones!) and helpings of aged prosciutto and a spicy capicola. Nobody rushed us, the delicious bread (served with a very luscious evoo) was refilled for accompanying the charcuterie, and we were able to talk both privately (always a welcome touch) but also interact with other tables, as there were several parties celebrating birthdays as well (good indication of the extravagance, and also the comfortable layout of the restaurant). For our main course we split a decadent baked pasta dish, with several types of cheese, kale, Italian sausage, and enough cream to put it into the "super rich" category. It was slightly salty, but we ordered glasses of a crisp Italian white wine, which helped to counterbalance the richness. We had been asked if we wanted to order desserts when we ordered our entree, and wisely we demurred. As it turns out, the pasta dish was so rich that we were unable to finish it (and it was still delicious for my lunch today!). So we did not indulge in desserts, which had included extensive offerings, such as homemade ice creams, flaky pastries, indulgent chocolate offerings, etc. The charcuterie offerings are extensive and quite interesting, as one can order the restaurant's own salumi(!) as well as cheese and meat offerings from local vendors, as well as from the finest selections from Italy. The pastas are also freshly homemade, which was readily apparent upon tasting. Highly recommend Bacaro, which is in a state where Italian food is often transcendental! read more

I've ordered meals from Bacaro via delivery app a good dozen times or so times over the past couple of years and every meal has been an absolute treat. From the crispy chicken over pasta fagioli, rigatoni with veal bolognese, or my personal favorite, the perciatelli all'Amatriciana (FINALLY, a RI restaurant that knows how to make an excellent Amatriciana!!), no dish has fallen short of spectacular. My only suggestion is to offer an option to add crispy chicken (at an additional cost) to the Amatriciana on DoorDash --that's an upgrade I'm always very happy to purchase with the bolognese and I'd love to be able to do it with the Amatriciana as well! 7:45 PM reservation on the day before Thanksgiving. It was a late reservation as we needed to wait for family members to arrive from different parts of the country. There were only two other tables in the space during the time we were there. We dined downstairs, near the bar, our table overlooking downtown Providence. White tablecloths, incandescent lighting supplemented by candlelight, exposed wooden beams, Venetian masks hanging on the walls...the combination providing for an elegant atmosphere. There is an extensive menu which includes cocktails, birra, Venetian apperitivo, insalate, antipasta caldi, cicchetti, grilled pizza, pasta, pesce, carne, contorti, formaggi, salumeria, and, finally, dolce. We were asked to order all our food at once because everything is made to order. Both the food and service were excellent. A few examples: the creaminess of my truffled burrata polenta was memorably good; the way our server kept refilling our water glasses, attentive but not obtrusive; he even crumbed our table. We felt a little rushed by our waiter we ordered apps and then he came to over to ask us more than once if we knew what we wanted for entrees and it's like we are here for a friends birthday catching up let us eat some cheese and chat and then we will order. And we understood that some dishes take a long time to prepare. He made it very clear. The chef choice cheese board was lack luster given to us with no instruction of what was what i mean we figured it out but seemed odd. We just didn't feel like our server liked us tbh. We ordered two pasta dishes a pizza and another entree and everything was absolutely delicious. Mine could've had more shrimp but still good. Including dessert the butter cake was wonderful. After that we ended the night with espressos. One of the best we have ever had! They make parking super easy first 3hrs are free in the lot right outside. Recently enjoyed a wonderful date night at Bacararo, and will be returning soon! Fun, friendly vibe, and despite the crowd, it wasn't noisy. Our server was informative and responsive. I would love to give this place a 5 Star, the food was amazing, probably the best filet I have ever had. We had a party of 10, the bill was better than 800.00. We enjoyed our drinks, our charcuterie board was top notch meats and cheeses, our dinner and deserts could not have been better. The problem was the server. He was borderline offensive and corrected the way people at the table spoke, he was extremely impatient and outwardly demonstrated frustration if we needed another minute to decide or had a special request due to one of the people in the party being pregnant and needing some clarification on the ingredients in a dish. Started with some tapas, the eggplant parmegianio was very good, the tomato sauce was really good & light, the polenta with prosciutto was nicely grilled. Pasta dishes were creamy & flavorful, the pasta with spring peas & smoked pancetta & the tagletelle both had a poached egg which added that extra creamy flavor when mixed in. I had never been to Bacaro although I've lived in Fox Point for quite some time. I reserved a table for 8 people on Saturday, 3/2 for my birthday. In short, the building is very nice and the food was fantastic BUT I am going to give a run down on my experience. I arrived on-time for my reservation at 7:15p and sat down with my party (some being there a few minutes before me). We were approached by the waiter who didn't introduce himself or bother to ask if this was our first time at Bacaro (quite odd, I'm sure many understand). The waiter takes everyone's drinks and then walks off. Comes back (before placing bread on table) and asks about first course (flew by drinks/apps) then comes back to drop bread. At this point I felt very rushed, there's no reason I should walk in and be hounded about drinks/appetizers/first course in a matter of 10 minutes - unheard of. He takes our app order and proceeds to ask about entrees/desert. It's fine if they need to pair entrees + desert but to expect me to order drinks, appetizers, first/secondi/desert in one shot. Should I have called in my drinks and food when I booked the reservation? The food and drinks were fantastic, I would not take away from that. Whoever is in the kitchen is excellent at their job and they should be recognized. Front desk + waiting staff needs a "tune up," no doubt in my mind. I eat out quite often in various places and always have tipping in mind - it's only right for the service industry. Tipping is service based right? Typically Beautiful building, the inside is low lit and intimate, food/drinks are fantastic and the wine selection is great. Service + Restaurant Processes lack severely and I would not consider coming back here until training is put in place. This could be a 5 Star Establishment (no question) - hope that comes true. We have been to Bacaro's a few times and have had good experiences. I recently hosted a party of 8 with my family which was a special occasion. Our service wasn't up to par with what I have experienced in the past or with what I would expect from a restaurant of the caliber of Bacaro. He was not engaging at all and was very short, condescending, a bit arrogant and didn't even say thanks for coming in when he gave us our bill. I don't think he fits for the service industry and am surprised Bacaro has not seen that already. Otherwise the appetizers and main courses were really good. Dessert was OK. read more

The appetizers and pizza were good, however, their pasta tends to be consistently on the salty side. We ordered the Bolognese and the gratin pasta. My fifteen year-old son, who loves Bolognese and has tried it at many different restaurants, said that Bacaro's Bolognese is the saltiest he has ever had. I noticed the same with my own pasta! While I wouldn't say it was inedible, it was definitely too salty to enjoy fully. We only managed to eat half of it and mentioned this to the server, but she didn't respond or take any action. I enjoy both Otra and Bacaro, and I hope they conduct taste tests with their kitchen team. Went for dinner on a Thursday. We were visiting from out of town. We had a reservation. For 645. Sat immediately. One person in our party had been here before the other 2 were first timers. Menu was explained. Tapas style first apps. We ordered the stuffed olives, roasted eggplant and bruschetta. Waitress said on several occasions that they were tiny plates and only 1-2 bites. I think they were much bigger than expected and in my opinion easily can be shared by 2. For dinner had pasta with mushrooms. Cooked perfectly and great flavor. Pasta bolognese was also said to be good. If you want dessert they suggest u order it with dinner because they take 30 minutes to make. I love dessert but felt rushed to order before i even have my appetizer so i didn't go for it. I didn't finish my pasta so probably better I didn't go for dessert. Dining room the AC was blaring to the point that we asked for it to be turned down as it was so cold my teeth were chattering. I had on long sleeves and a sweater. Mind you i get cold easily but being uncomfortable takes away from dining experience. Lighting is dim which makes for cozy ambiance but it gets very noisy. Waitress was nice but overall i felt rushed. She wasn't aware what was delivered to the table or when something was missing. I had a gift card hanging around for almost a year, so I finally got around to making a reservation. I used the contact form on their website asking if they had a Saturday reservation from 6-8pm. I sent this the day before (Friday) around 6pm. I wasn't expecting a response or if I did, one that would come a week later. Imagine my surprise when no more than 1-2 hours later I received a response and they had a 5:45pm available! I bring this up because I've found that website contact forms are very hit and miss, so their response was really appreciated. We arrived at Bacaro at 5:45pm and were seated within minutes. For apps we shared the pear salad (delllllllllicious) and the Northern Italian Board (equally delicious). For our entrees we had the pappardelle pasta, scallops, and a pizza. It was all wonderful. I've been here several times and each one had a kink in it so I can't do 5 stars. The food is good, the drinks are tasty, the staff is nice. It's a little expensive for what you get (there was a risotto with prosciutto for $35 really? Or to add shrimp to a salad it's $3.50 a shrimp which the second time I came here meant one of my friends salad more than doubled in price to get 4 shrimp) This last time we came in during covid for a friends birthday. Our reservation was for 730 and we were seated about 745. Our table was in a little alcove to the left of the entrance so private enough we could take our masks off. Service was a little slow but they had just reopened so I'm not holding that against them. We ordered our drinks and apps and then our dinner and desserts. They ask you to order dessert with your entree as they say they are made from scratch and so take a while. Apps came out pretty quickly. Dinner took a while. Dessert took forever. We finished our meal about 1015. The staff was all wearing masks and most were the temporary kind. I had a bunch of extra cloth masks so I offered them to the staff and they were very grateful. They sent us a round of Prosecco. A nice place with nice feeling but it wasn't worth the $315 tab before tip. read more

Three out of five for two reasons - 1. Food. Just OK. Quite expensive. Example - the Ligurian style swordfish I ordered seemed not at all seasoned. The rice served with my entree was pretty old. 2. Service. Pretty lousy. Our waitress was slow, lazy, and clearly didn't care about much other than turning the table to squeeze in another sitting. Bonus hatred because I hate waiting for a glass of wine to have with my entree even though I try to order one well before the entree arrives. It's super loud in this place as well. Underwhelming. This was our first time here and there's no doubt we will return. We had been to Otra, their other restaurant just next door several months prior. We enjoyed the tapas style menu offerings and planned to try Bacaro. There were four of us - two couples - and nary a complaint. We were seated upstairs with a great view out of the wall of windows over the river. Having arrived at 6:30pm there was a bit of sun streaming in for those seated facing the windows. But that was temporary and not an issue as there was also cloud cover. With a fairly broad list of drinks, including a few mocktails, and plenty of wine as well (Italians by the glass and plenty of others by the bottle), we began. The menu was surprisingly extensive. With so much to choose from it was a bit difficult to make a decision, but we all managed. We began with charcuterie - as one should! Fresh, delicious ingredients. Both the Caesar and the mixed greens salads were fresh and tasty. For entrees two ordered the same - Saffron-Scented Riso from the Oven with Chicken and Clams - and each enjoyed the dish very much; taking home the remaining portion with pleasure. An order of Wood-Grilled Summer Spareribs "Scottadito" disappeared before our eyes voraciously - without offer of sharing! And the fourth entrée was my own - Crispy Pork Tenderloin "Milanese" - which fully satisfied. Arugula is a favorite of mine and it went very nicely with the buttered noodles and zucchini. Our server had mentioned at the outset that we would be wise to pre-order desserts as some can take several minutes to prepare. We went with the Bing Cherry Upside Down Crème Fraiche Cake and Salted Chocolate Caramel Tart each of which were outstanding. Now, it is, I find, a bit of a shock when any restaurant is able to consistently hit the mark when the menu offers a dozen entrees. But Bacaro seemed to meet that goal head-on. When considering the number of ingredients necessary to create so many dishes (including all of the tapas-style items), it will amaze me if that is, in fact, the case. I'll be looking forward to finding out on the next visit. read more

My guests had the Pomegranate Pork Chop, Chicken Marsala and a pasta w/ pancetta/brussels pasta was fabulous. I Split a pumpkin Augrautin....Not great (over cooked/hard). My daughter had plain pasta... When the bill came initially they didn't take off the pasta which we couldn't eat and charge $25 for a child's plate. Clarissa took care of it immediately.
