What a sweet little spot! The freshest , most plump oysters I've had in a long time- love the staff, ambience and the food! The fries are crisp and seasoned to perfection and the drinks are expertly crafted. I highly recommend this beautiful, intimate spot and I can't wait to try more of their brilliant food!

Had a very nice dinner at this awesome spot. The staff was so nice and accommodating! You absolutely have to get the scallop roll and fresh oysters when you visit. Their seasoned fries pair well with the kimchi mayo. Our favorite oysters were aquidneck cups which were really crisp and sweet.

Delicious, fresh and plump oysters with tasty, well-seasoned fries and a nice cold beer- what more is there to say? Friendly service in a cozy atmosphere! Would definitely recommend sitting at the bar for some freshly shucked oysters and clams- they also have great cocktails if that's your thing. Would love to go back and try more of their food. *oysters are $2 during happy hour (4-5pm), not a bad deal considering the quality!

We walked in on a Thursday around 5pm and the place was already bumping, with almost all of the seats taken. Luckily, we were able to sit right away and didn't have to wait at this tiny restaurant that does not take reservations. It's really cute in here, decorated minimally, and very modern. Most of the space is taken up by the oyster bar, so it's a huge focal point. You can sit around this bar or one of the outer tables. It's a bit tight in here but it's worth it. The service is incredible, with super friendly people. I will admit I wasn't a fan of our server, he seemed to not like us and made me feel weird, like he was judging us and super didn't care for us, but everyone else was spectacular. I appreciated that they clean the table while you're sitting there before dessert or the check. This is a touch lost by a lot of modern restaurants and I'm glad they still do it here. The food and drink here is amazing. It's seasonal so the menu seems to change a lot. Everything we ate was top notch, prepared beautifully and absolutely delicious. Of course, the oysters and the accompanying sauces were fantastic but the thing I'll think about for quite some time, the thing that is making my mouth water right this moment? The sugar kelp salad. I considered ordering another bowl, it was that good. The only thing that I didn't like was one of the desserts but I'm super picky about desserts, so I'll let that pass.

AMAZING, as always. The drinks are innovative and delicious. The seafood is fresh and light. The service is always impeccable. The space is beautiful and welcoming. You really can't go wrong. The oysters are a must have; I always decide how many I want and ask the server for suggestions on which ones to get. Some other favorites are the crudo plate, the smoked fish dip, and the scallop roll! The drinks are also great; there's a wide variety so my suggestion is to pick what you find the most interesting!

I tried Gift Horse during Providence Restaurant Week and was really pleasantly surprised. I went in with high expectations after it was announced as a James Beard award winner, and somehow it lived up to them--which is no small feat. It's a small restaurant, so I'd recommend going with a small group or, if you have six people, reserving their one large table. Date night at the bar is perfect. Best chance at a table is right when they open at 5pm, but if you don't get in immediately, there's cute shopping nearby to kill some time. Food-wise, everything we had was fantastic. The raw scallops were the standout--amazing flavor, texture, and freshness. My girlfriend, who normally doesn't even like seafood, loved them. The menu changes often based on what's seasonal, but they always have a fantastic oyster selection. I'm personally not an oyster fan, but my friends who are think this is the best spot for variety and freshness. Dessert was well-balanced and delicious, and the drinks were strong and flavorful. The staff gave great recommendations. It is a bit pricey, and portions are on the smaller side, so you might get hungry later--but the quality makes it worth it. Overall, one of the best seafood spots Providence has to offer. I'd highly recommend it to any seafood lover.

This is the absolute best restaurant on my trip to the East Coast! The raw scallops are to die for. We had a great variety of oysters. The Peri Peri tuna was good, though my friend said the bonito fish was better. The chocolate ice cream with potato chip is so good and interesting - crispy, salty and sweet! The waiter and bartender serving us were all very nice! Nice atmosphere!

I've been a fan of Benjamin Sukle & his restaurants since I moved to Rhode Island. I've had spectacular meals at both Oberlin & birch. I walk by Gift Horse all the time & it is always hopping. The combo of Providence Restaurant Week & the newly minted James Beard Foundation award-winning chef, Sky Haneul Kim, finally made us go! Gift Horse only takes reservations for six or more, happy hour is from 4pm-5pm & Providence Restaurant Week starts at 5pm (restaurant opens at 4pm). Hubby went at 4:30pm to score a table as I was running late. By 5pm, every seat at the bar & every table was full! We treated ourselves by doing a mix of regular menu items & Providence Restaurant Week menu. We started with $2 buck a shuck from the happy hour menu. All oysters were from Rhode Island & we ordered East Beach Blondes (Ningret Pond-Charlestown), Point Judith Pearls (Pt. Judith Pond), Portsmouth Salts (Sakonnet River) & Rough Waters(West Passage-Narragansett). My favorite Portsmouth Salts, hubby's fav Rough Waters. From the regular menu, we ordered the Smoked Fish Dip, Preserved Calabrian Peppers, Puffed Nori Chips. I want another serving of this right now! It was perfection on a plate. Loved the drizzle of calabrian peppers & the herbaceousness of the oil. Every bite was an adventure! From the PRW menu, I ordered the Crudo Plate, Raw Fish, Herb Capers, Onion, Arbequina Olive Oil. Fish in the photo (l-r): fluke, blue fish, blue tuna. Initially, I was wondering why so much olive oil but it really was a great addition to the fish. Loved the addition of toppings so every bite was special. Should have ordered a second one so I didn't have to share! Hubby selected the Chef's choice: 1/2 dozen oysters from the raw bar (cuz there is no such thing as too many oysters!). Walrus & Carpenter "Dutchies" & Seakist oysters, both West Passage in Narragansett. These were our favorite oysters of the six we tried. From the regular menu, we ordered the Monkfish Toast, Piri Piri. In my mind, I had envisioned this dish differently - more like caviar on toast. First bite without dipping in the sauce was meh. Second bite with it was yummi. I really loved how crispy crunchy the toast was compared to the creamy monkfish on the inside. There were two PRW options for the main course. Hubby selected Littleneck Clam Naengmyeon, Cold Noodles, Joetgal, Cucumber, Gochujang Broth. Everything was thoughtfully put together & so well balanced with nuance. Gift Horse makes the noodles in-house. Do any of my foodies/chefs know what these would be similar to at an Asian grocery store? Thinner than udon but with the same delightful chewiness. I selected the Bulgogi Burger, Fried Egg, Cooper Sharp Cheese, Lettuce, Sesame Bun. This would not have been my choice but since there were only two entree options, I ordered this one. This burger would be great late night after a few cocktails! From the PRW menu, I ordered the Chocolate Ice Cream, Marshmallow, Rosette Cookie. An elevated s'mores experience. So good! Hubby selected the Brown Sugar Semifreddo, Lemon, Toasted Soy, Dalgona. We were kinda full by the time dessert was served & we didn't love the semifreddo so we took it home & stuck it in the freezer to make it more ice cream like for another taste tonite. Loved the dalgona - Korean honeycomb toffee candy made with melted sugar & baking soda. We are SOOOO lucky to have restaurants like Gift Horse in Rhode Island! It really is a special place. Highly recommend. NOM NOM NOM #YUM

Raw Scallops (9/10): Excellent. The scallops were so smooth and fresh. The marinade was delicious - beautiful flavors with little bursts of sesame. Sugar Kelp Salad (6/10): Unfortunately, there wasn't a lot going on in this dish. It felt pretty one-dimensional. I think it could benefit from something to balance out the acidity. Sourdough (9/10): Sourdough was delicious. Great crust and great chew. Spring Onion Jeon (5/10): Unfortunately does not stack up to pajeon I've had at other restaurants in IL/CA. Not even talking about the amazing pajeon in Korea. Not crispy enough, flavors were underwhelming, seafood was underwhelming. Squid Sandwich (8/10): This was very solid. It was also a lot of food! Squid was tender and the sauce went perfectly with the bread. Very balanced. This is a seasonal dish, so get it while you can. Service was good. I would say the food is a 3/5 and the service is a 4.5/5, so we'll round this one to a 4/5 overall.

Came here one night without a reservation and was able to get seated right away. It was our first time so we got really good recommendations and loved every dish! The seafood here is really fresh and delicious. And the restaurant itself is super cozy with a pleasant atmosphere. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area!

Came here on a Friday afternoon with my boyfriend. No wait and street parking or pay for a nearby garage. Nothing really wowed me. Ordered crab claws which were small, the cold noodles, oysters, a beer and the semifreddo. The kimchi mignonette and other dressing wasn't spectacular. Small area with mostly bar seating. Bathroom is extremely dark

Came here for dinner with two friends. The restaurant is small and chic but we got seated pretty quickly at a high table. All the dishes are very unique and seem to be seafood asian fusion. We got multiple dishes to share. The rice ball is very chewy and unique. The cold noodle is also very flavorful. The fish dip looks nice but the smoked fish taste is not my favorite but is still worth a try. The fried fish dish is a must try! The lettuce wrap, banchan, and the fish itself is such an experience and very filling. Would come back to try more dishes.

Upon walking into Gift Horse I was immediately wowed by the interior. The dining space was well-curated and well-designed. The menu also seemed promising, featuring what seemed to be an assortment of intriguing dishes. Unfortunately, I left Gift Horse feeling disappointed. With the premium price of the menu items, I expected much more. Oysters: The oyster selection was wonderful. The Block Island oysters had a subtle brininess and were very smooth. Crudo Plate: What seems like quality seafood is ruined by a sea of olive oil. Although, the olive oil had delicious grassy notes, it was just too much. The capers added some acidity but were powerless compared to the onslaught of olive oil. Smoked Fish Dip: A perfect appetizer. The fish dip was creamy and light. The nori chips were the perfect vessel. A simple concept done well. Pickled Fried Onions: A unique twist on classic onion rings. Using pickled onions gives this dish some acidity, which cuts the oiliness. Fried Oysters: Good, but I would rather have the oysters raw. The smearing of cocktail sauce also felt like a bit much. Monkfish Toast: For dishes served on toast, I usually expect the toast to be exceptional. The toast here did no favors. The monkfish also tasted quite bland. Smoked Scallop Roll: The ratio of roll-to-scallop is atrocious here. There is far too much bread and not enough scallops. Crispy Fish: The fish was not noteworthy. The side dishes stole the show here.

My friend knows much more about wine than I do, so he was the decision maker for our wine choices and we ordered a 1/2 bottle of red which we both found to be very delicious. Of course, we had to try some food too and the small bites menu was perfect with something to satisfy nearly every taste. We opted for the meat charcuterie, and it was beautifully presented with enough for the two of us to share. There is also a cheese charcuterie on the menu, but unfortunately there is not an option for a combined meat and cheese plate. We sat, sipped, and tasted for a while and never felt rushed. The atmosphere was so comfortable and we'll definitely consider going back here again.

I didn't have the best time at Providence Wine Bar…read more This might sound a little haughty, but hear me out: I can drink wine at home. I can browse a liquor store & pick out a bottle that exactly fits my preferences, my mood, & my budget. I can bring it home & uncork the wine, checking the cork for freshness. I can pull out my special glassware & pour myself a glass of wine & enjoy it on my own couch. So why go out to a wine bar, if not for the wine? For me, it's for the ambience & the experience. Both of those things at Providence Wine Bar were lacking. The lights were too bright (overhead & fluorescent) & the music was too loud (& just bad). The employees seemed both bored & nervous, with not much to do to occupy themselves. I was one of the only people in the bar, so I felt like I was under scrutiny - I'm certain this wasn't intentional but it was unfortunately how it came across. I brought a book but couldn't focus because of the lights & the music. I even caught myself with my fingers in my ears, trying to muffle the sounds of 2010s hyper pop. I have nothing against 2010s hyperpop, it's just that there's a time & place for everything, & maybe that isn't at a wine bar at 8 PM on a Wednesday. I just wanted to be done with my glass of wine so that I could leave. All of that being said, I wish them the best. It seems like they need a good manager's touch.

Luckily we did make reservation for early dinner so we were able to find parking right away. We got there early so the restaurant wasn't open yet. We took a walk around the Westminster for a bit until the place was open. We were sat down right away. Inside is cozy with dim lights and open kitchen and some tables. They have few outside seating available as well. We started with some appetizer raw fish and combo as well as kohlrabi Caesar. We got black bass and a seasonal fish with combo that included lightly roasted oysters, shrimp and squid. All seafood was directly sourced from local port and fresh. Seafood appetizer was delicious. The caesar was interesting. I've never had kohlrabi but it reminded me of radish and it was tasty. Personally i would have preferred little less salt and olive oil so that flavor of the raw ingredient stand out more but was not too bad. My entree was the seafood risotto. Flavorful risotto with some seafood on top. Was a bit messy to eat because of the shells but was flavorful. The crab and shellfish itself was small and a bit underwhelming but the rice was rich and full of fish flavor. My mother had the cacio e Pepe which was good but she said that nothing comparable to one she had in Rome. I was not a huge fan of the thicker pasta but that's just is personal preference. Service was excellent but the table was a bit small and tight as we were very close to the next table and can hear what others are talking about so not a very privately setting. Overall i did like the place. Food and service were good. But it was not anything exceeding expectation and there were few things that detracted from our experience such as heavy seasonings, small dining space and etc... The price is quite expensive for the amount of food they serve as well. I think it's a good place for special occasions.

The lighting is perfect for a romantic night out and the view of the Providence River right over your shoulder. We made our own board: Umbriaco di Raboso "Drunken Cow" - amazing cheese, very high quality, sharp, not over powering. Definitely get it! Provolone - sharp very good quality provolone cheese Proscuitto di San Daniele - sliced very thin, soft and flavorful. I was very pleased with the portion size and the flavor. A must have! Spicy Olives - assorted olives with a spicy olive oil. All of the olives were fantastic and there definitely was a good kick from the spice. They threw in the pickles, jams, nuts and honey, all were fantastic. I really liked the blueberry jam. The warm tapas came out at all different times. Fried Bolognese olives - Although these were unique and delicious, I would skip these next time. The Bolognese is just a pinch on the inside of the olive. It would be a game changer if there was a side of Bolognese sauce to dip them in instead. Eggplant - Definitely a must order. Super simple sauce packed with flavor and the buffalo mozzarella is to die for. The pork belly is also a must order. Tons of flavor and not a lot of fat, which surprised me. It was a good sized portion too. Now of the the pizza...we ordered Pizza Salumi. Very thin dough, wood fired for the flavor and the crisp. There is a good amount of sauce, which can make the crust floppy, but it's so worth it! The flavor of the sauce is so good. All fresh and top quality ingredients. The soppressata was perfect, taking this pizza to the next the level. It was cut super thin, as it should, and gave the pizza the flavor a margarita is missing. It would be tough not to order this next time. So just as we should have been walking out of the door because we were so full, we had the duck and the wood fired NY strip to split among the three of us. The duck - The duck dish came with the two legs so it was the dark meat with crispy skin. The duck was flavorful, moist, tender, and had some sort of apple based sauce to accompany it. The mashed potatoes were great and the Gorgonzola chunks were a treat, especially while sipping the sangiovese/cab red wine blend that we ordered for the table. The NY Strip was my favorite. The steak was tender and came with the flavor from that wood fired grill. The sauce was so good that I dipped every piece in it, trying to reserve some for the mashed potatoes. I ordered the steak medium rare + and it came out just how I wanted it. We ordered the lemon tart for my mom's birthday dessert. I would skip the dessert next time, but I always skip dessert. My mother loved it...very fresh and vibrant. I would have to say that Bacaro is my favorite RI restaurant, especially for a special night out. It is also a perfect spot to go and grab a snack or two with friends after work with a drink. It is affordable as you want and can find high end alternatives as well. The bottle of wine was $48 and you couldn't have asked for a better pairing with all of the food. We also ordered an after dinner cocktail, called the Call to Italy...very refreshing for a digestive type cocktail.

For Apps we had the Fried Burrata, Sausage Trio, and arancini balls! All amazing!! For dinner I went light as the apps were delicious. Buffalo Mozzarella on arugula and prosciutto with balsamic. My wife ordered the chicken parm also delicious.

A lovely woman in the restroom overheard my friend and I unsure on where to venture, and she suggested this place! Moody and welcoming. Absolutely loved it. We went in ~10:45 on a Wednesday pm. Apparently they do live jazz weekly as well, but we'd come too late. A handful of bar patrons, a couple making out in the back of the dining room at their cute table, a lovely bartender, me& my bff. We really hit the jackpot for ambiance last night. Decor in there is so cute. I wish I took a picture of the table lamp on the bar. It was embellished with beads hanging on the rim of the shade. Our drinks were top notch. Mine was a citrus vanilla profile and hers was a savory martini. The sandwich, I had one bite of it was yummy. I don't like imitation lunch meats though. CATFISH was breaded and fried fabulously. Not oily. Crispy and crunchy. So happy to have discovered this place! The bartender told us they just celebrated 6 years of business!

They also had live music, and that was honestly the highlight of the night, it was amazing and added so much to the overall vibe. The food was okay, not bad by any means, but nothing that really stood out or blew me away. This is definitely the kind of place you come to for the drinks, the live music, and the atmosphere more than the food. If you're looking for a spot with great vibes and a fun, lively energy, this is it.
